Why do I keep getting "Unresponsive Script" boxes?

Several times a day a box will pop up and processing will stop until I click on one of the choices in the box. The message in the box is:
Warning: Unresponsive script

responding. You can stop the script now, or you can
continue to see if the script will complete.

  • I keep getting "Unresponsive Script" errors in random "jsm" files several times a day. Why?

Several times a day I get "Unresponsive Script" popups as I browse the internet. They're almost always different. Sometimes its in tabbrowser, sometimes it has something to do with a YouTube page I have open, and sometimes it occurs when I try to save a file with the built-in download manager.
I don't know why it does this so often. I don't have many Addons.
I also copied the technical information about my browser to help out if it can identify why these Unresponsive Script Errors keep appearing.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Why does Thunderbird keep displaying Unresponsive Script resource://gre/modules/XPCOMUtils.jsm:323?

Thunderbird keeps hanging and displaying "a script on the page may be busy..." with the above message. I thought that the latest update would fix the problem but it seems to have made it worse. My system is W7 64BitUltimate with SP1. It has 8GB of RAM.
    What could be the problem?

    Name: Thunderbird
    Version: 24.5.0

  • I keep getting 'unresponsive script js/ff_browser:204' asking to stop or continue; windows XP FF8

This keeps popping up even though I am doing nothing with FF, just leaving it on my home page. Every few minutes this pm. Doesn't occur if busy browsing

Without knowing which page you have set as your homepage, I can only guess that the page is periodically refreshing content on that page giving you those repeated error messages. You need to post the entire error message for us to help you.

  • Why do i keep getting Java Script Application saying uninstal and every time i click on my mouse the pop up appears and its sometimes hard to get rid of it. Please help. God Bless

As soon as I log on to Firefox this pop up appears on the screen saying Java Script Application and under neath it it says uninstal and beside uninstal is a yellow triangle with a exclamation mark inside of it. Every time I click the mouse the pop up reappears over and over. It's really a nuisance and I need your help. The word uninstal is spelled like you see it, even though it's spelled wrong.Thank you and God Bless

Other users have reported that this is caused by one of their add-ons. I suggest going to the Add-ons page and disabling everything that is not essential, and then restarting Firefox. Hopefully it's not caused by something you really rely on.
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Add-ons
On the left side, click Extensions
Then disable as many as possible and restart Firefox.
    Any luck?

  • I keep getting unresponsive script warnings and the suggestions on the firefox support site don't work.

I have been getting these more and more. There is no button to push "continue," as the support page suggests, only a big question mark that can't be clicked. Nor can I type in the location bar nor close any tabs. The only thing that can be done is to quit Firefox and restart. It is very frustrating. I think I had to do it 10 times today. I am using the latest version of firefox and Mac OS 10.6.8
I have disabled extensions (which I don't have very many of). I do not want to disable my plugins, though I have updated the ones that I can. I had to use another browser this morning to check email because this happened with firefox about 10 times. It happens of all different sites though. It is getting worse. Please help.
    Thank you.

Why do I keep getting Error 519: Server interface error" - Server interface error "no component returned from creativewidget' Line: 479 -> var test = parent.add('statictext', undefined, text)  when I try to use pattern fill/scripted patterns.  I have uninstalled and re-installed PS CC.  I have opened holding down shift to disable third party plug-ins.  I have moved 3rd party plugins to a temp location outside of ps and it still doesn't help.  It worked once, and only once and now won't work at all.

Why do  I keep getting ann error of 2096 when downloading any version of itunes.  It tells me to delete itunes and reinstall.

  • Why do i keep getting blocked plug-in message

Why do I keep getting "blocked plug-in" message? I can't see video clips and this started about a month ago.

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • Still getting "unresponsive script"

I have changed the value of dom.max_script_run_time to 1000 and *still* I get "unresponsive script" notices.
The only time it ever happens is when I am downloading something, and take a moment to create a new folder to hold the new item.
Then, because there are now 2 dialogs wanting a response (the save box, and the 'unresponsive script' box) Firefox locks up and I cannot click either of the buttons.
So then I have to do a Force Quit and reopen Firefox.
Even with a value of 1000 (seconds?) it always interrupts at about the same time as the default value.
All the Firefox KB suggests is that if changing the value doesn't help, then set it back to the original value - while giving no further suggestions as to how to prevent it happening again.

I've been using the file picker for years without problem - it's annoying to have that feature whipped out from under me.
What other application is there that won't give you time to create a folder on the fly?
The suggestion to create folders first is a *backwards* step. Sure, it's the only practical answer in the meantime, but I'd already figured that out.
Does no-one have an answer for killing that warning?

Why do i keep getting an Alert message saying "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded "?
This happens a lot regardless of the web page. I continually have to restart FF and it persists still

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.

When playing games on Facebook, why do I keep getting requests to store information on my computer? When playing games on Facebook, why do I keep getting requests to store information on my computer?

    Welcome to the forum.
Exactly what program is throwing that request message?
Does that message list any details, such as WHAT will be written/saved to your computer?
As ATR mentions, I am not sure how PrE figures into the mix. I would anticipate that your message is coming from FaceBook, or from the OS, or from your anti-virus/anti-malware program.
Regardless, be VERY wary of any program, or Web site, that wants to write to your computer, unless you have delibertly invoked something that you DO want to do so.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
