Why do macs connect bluetooth to each other

Why does my iMac and Macbook Pro (both lion) keep connecting using bluetooth to eachother. What's the point?
I am not aware of any services or apps that need this. I've removed the pairing a few times now and yet it keeps coming back. I can't see what does this.
Both computers are in the same network, macbook via Wifi and iMac via Ethernet but in the same network. THey can reachother that way if needed. Why is the bluetooth connection made and what for?

Hi Kevin,
I assume you want to be able to access the hard drive on one Mac from the other?
Let's say you want to navigate your G4's drive from the MacBook Pro:
1. On the G4 go to the Sharing section in System Preferences.
2. Make sure Personal File Sharing is enabled in the services tab.
3. Also on the services tab, just below the Computer Name will be a sentence like "Other computers on your local subnet can access your computer at mac.local". You'll probably have a different name than mac.local. You can change the name by clicking the Edit button. What ever it is - remember it!
4. Now on the MacBook Pro in Finder, choose Go/Connect to Server.
5. In the server address field, type in the local host name from step 3, say mac.local, and hit connect.
6. Choose the volume you want to connect to and click OK
7. Log in using your G4 user account.
8. The G4 drive will appear in the Finder side bar.
Hope that helps.

    Calm down.

I am saying that this is not a feature of a legit iphone.
    Have you hacked your iphone?
There are some apps that allow this between iphones/ipods.

  • HT2477 Are documentS created with Microsoft office for windows and Microsoft office for mac are compatible with each other

Are documents created with Microsoft office for windows and Microsoft office for mac are compatible with each other?

As with a lot of software, it depends on the version of Word, and what features the author used.
Technically, Office 2010 for Windows and 2011 for Mac are supposed to be feature compatible. As are Office 2007 for Windows, and 2008 for Mac.
However, if a person using Office 2010 / 2011 used a feature that only exists in that version and sends the file to someone using Office 2007 / 2008, they would very likely have trouble opening the file, or having it display as intended.

  • Two Macs don't see each other

Just bought a new Macbook and it's on the same subnet as my iMac. I have the firewall running in stealth mode on both machines. Neither one sees the other and Finder sidebar does not show any "shared" computers.
I'm assuming that I need to disable the firewalls for these two machines to see each other.
The question is: Once these two machines have located each other, will turning on the firewall in stealth mode shut down the sharing once more, or will it stay active?

Got it working. Disabled the firewalls, set up the sharing, set up the user accounts (different user names on different machines thanks to the Migration Assistant) and away it went. Re-established the firewalls and everything is cool.
Interesting how working on Macs changes ones thinking. I've become so used to everything just working well that I just slap things together without any advanced thinking -- on occasion that bites back. It didn't help that from a security standpoint, I had tightened down every nut I could find. If these had been Windows machines, I would've planned much more thoroughly and would have expected and anticipated trouble at every step of the way.
    Thanks

  • Is it possible for my two new mac laptops to facetime each other?

I recently received my MacBook Pro and MacBook Air through the online store. I was wondering how (if they can) facetime each other? I am using the same apple id (I think) for both and I totally need your help.

    Hi Mercurium,
Sure you can FaceTime between the MBA and the MBP.  BUT, you can't use the same Id for both.  It would be like calling yourself.  If you picked up your land line phone and dialed your own number, you'd get a busy signal. You can use the Id you already have for one of your Mac books -- the other is going to need its very own identification.

  • 2 Mac can not see each other via airdrop under the same airport/timecapsule.

I have 2 iMac in my home with a TImeCapsule (gen4).
The wifi is on both 2.4G and 5G with the same SSID.
iMac A is working on 2.4GHz, iMac B is working on 5GHz.
So they can not see each other via airdrop, meanwhile they can see each other  in the left panel of Finder.app
Is it a known issue of AirDrop?

    Hi Kirby Zhou,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you would like to utilize file sharing between computers, not necessarily AirDrop. Please refer to the attached article for information on the file sharing process. If this is not what you are looking for, please let me know.

  • TS4006 Contacts entered on iPad /iPhone will not appear on Mac but do on each other. Contacts entered on Mac do appear on all three

Contacts entered on iPad and iphone5 will not appear on Mac but do appear on each other. Contacts entered on Mac do appear on iPad and iPhone ?

    Hi denctanner,
I did read the post. I was simply explaining that Contacts does not sync with the OTA Sync function, it syncs via iCloud if you want to sync wirelessly....
The OTA Sync option on the Info page has nothing to do with the iCloud syncing of your Contacts....
Try deleting your iCloud account on your iPhone and signing on again. Once you have signed iCloud back on, make sure all the options you want checked are checked, and then try it again. (When you delete it, you will get a message that it will delete your Photo Stream and Document but don't worry, when you sign back on, they will come back).
    Cheers,

  • HT4191 Notes - my ipad and mac are synching to each other but not to iCloud?

i believe i have set up icloud properly. My Ipad and my Mac are synching Notes to each other but they are not synching properly to Icloud.
I have also set up Calendar to synch on all of the 2 devices and the Icloud and those three things all synch fine.
    any thoughts?

As long as both devices are compatible with iCloud, it should work. When you say they sync with each other, does that mean via iTunes? Go to iCloud.com and check what if any content is being synced.

  • Why instanses randomly exchanging colors with each others.

I have a trouble with Instances of movieclip loaded by AS3

After adding 5 of them in scene I trying to change colors of

But after that I change x,y coordinates of them in loop.

  • Wireless Internet works but Macs can't see each other on same network.

    First: Ahh!
Second: I have an iMac & and MacBook connected to the same Wifi connection at home. I'm using the Belkin F5D8235-4 v2000 with Firmware 2.01.08. The most up to date firmware and Mac compatible. Both have IP addresses within this range 192.168.2.random number. Both have "File Sharing", "Remote Login" and "Remote Management" check off. Both always see the Belkin n+ under shared items (the Belkin +n has a memory stick attached to it). Here's the kicker...when I restart for a few minutes I can see both computers under Network and Shared. Then poof, it's gone. As I write this my MacBook can see my iMac but my iMac is Stevey Wonder, not a thing in sight.
Why won't my iMac and Macbook play nice? Are iMac's rasist? Not implying Stevey Wonder is rasist. Wow, back call on my part.
Ohh, one more thing (feels good to use that line in a Mac forum). I have installed Windows 7 on both computers, it problem also happens in windows too. I'll bring that to another forum, just thought you should know.
If you need more details or want to know what kind of sandwich I'm making just write below. It's ham. Help me please.
Third: Ahh! This is the best sandwich ever.

  • How can I 'force' my Macs to look for each other on the network?

OK, I have an iMac with a wired connection to a router, and a MacBook Pro with a wireless connection to the same router. Most of the time, they can 'see' one another on the network, no problem. But, every so often, even after both have been on for a while, I will click the Network icon and the other computer will not appear as available - this happens even when the target computer can see the computer I'm using to try to access it.
So, here's my question: how can I 'force' my Macs to look for (and find) one another on the network?
Thanks... if you need further information, just ask... - beck

If you are using Tiger, go to
Finder menu -> Go -> Connect to Server
Enter the specific IP address of the other Mac where is says +Server Address+. You can find the IP address by running System Profiler or looking at System Preferences Network pane (on the other Mac).
Once you have mounted the volume you to access, make an alias for it and place it in the Dock or on your Desktop. The next time you want to connect to that server, use the alias.

  • Ultiboard - connecting pins to each other on footprint

I have a shielded connector with two mounting screws.  Both screws are connected to the shield, so if I want to ground it I only have to connect my GND net to one of the hole pads.  It doesn't matter which one, because they are common to the shield.
    My setup:
In Ultiboard, the footprint has two pads - one for each of the mounting screws.
In Multisim, my symbol has one pin for the shield.  I've mapped that pin to both of the Ultiboard footprint pads.
    Now my problem:
In Ultiboard, the GND net connects to both of the footprint pads.  I've attached one to a GND trace, but not the other.  So Ultiboard constantly throws a DRC error because I have a pin that's not connected.  I know that I can manually disconnect the pin from the net, but I think there must be a way of doing this automatically.  What I mean is, how can I group two pins together on the footprint so that either one can be used to connect to a net?  Maybe this is pin swapping, but it looks to me like I can only do pin swapping in Multisim and then only if my symbol has multiple pins that are the same.  I have a few components like this, and I want to set them up in the database so that when you place them on a board, you don't have to manually remove any pins.
I'd appreciate any advice.  Thanks so much.

From the point of view of EMC, it is NOT advisable to connect only one pin of a connector housing to GND. Connecting all pins will yield lowest impedance between any point of the housing and GND. Even if you measure 0 ohms with an ohmmeter (which uses DC for measurement), this does not mean that the impedance is just as low for RF, or in other words, there might be (unnecessary and unwanted) inductivity.
"Pin swapping" means that you can swap pins, say, of a multiple-input AND gate. If you see that it would be more convenient to connect a different input to a certain signal than indicated in the schematics, you can swap the input in questions with another one. You will have to re-annotate this from the board to the schematics.

  • Two Macs can't see each other on same network

We have an iMac and a Mac Book Pro on the same apple network at home. The iMac can see and connect to the Pro and exchange files but the Pro can't see the iMac in Go > Network. All sharing settings are the same. Any thoughts welcomed.

How many machines are on your network? If you have over 7, then here should be an entry called "All..." in Shared in the Sidebar. Click on that. It will show you all the servers that are available on your network. You can also get to this list via Computer (Command-Shift-C) and click on Network.
Shared in the sidebar shows a max of 7 servers, with Back To My Mac's at the top (if any), then servers you have mounted share points on (if any), then the top 7 (in alphabetical order) servers in Network (a.k.a. "All...").
    Hope that helps.

  • Mail Os 10.3.9 and .Mac mail talking to each other

I recently set up a .Mac account for my husband. Now all mail, mine AND his is going into the .Mac mail online and none into the OS 10.3.9 mail. I would like all the mail to go into the OS X mail. When I open the drawers for OS X mail, the Inbox has both of our .Mac accounts listed. I would think that I could just click on one of them and have the mail come in there. Not so. Both accounts register 0 mail. Now I have to go up online to get the mail and to answer it. As I have dial-up, this ties up my phone line. Also, my husband is a technophobe and to get him to sign online will be like pulling hens teeth. How can I tell .Mac to send all the mail to the OS X inbox? Thanks for any help.
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If you haven't changed the account type for either account, a .Mac type account is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way.
With a POP type account, messages are downloaded from the server and with a .Mac or IMAP type account, the account's Inbox mailbox in Mail is synchronized with the server.
Do you keep the Activity Viewer window open? If not, I suggest doing so to watch if the download/synchronization process does occur when each account is checked for new mail. At the Mail.app menu bar go to Window and select Activity Viewer.
Next items to check - go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, is "Include when automatically checking for new mail" selected?
Also, what is your selection for "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing:" and is "Automatically synchronize changed mailboxes" selected?
If there are a number of messages available at the server and since you are using dial-up for internet access, the synchronization process can take longer than expected but using the Activity Viewer will indicate what if any activity is occurring.
