Why does a document tell me it needs to be opened in newer version of Pages yet when I check the Mac App store I already have it upgraded
I can't seem to open Pages documents and am told "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document" however, I have checked for upgrades in Mac App store and am told all apps are up to date. When I open Pages and check "about Pages" it says I have 4.3. What gives?
It sounds like you already have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

I am trying to access a numbers document in mycloud and it keeps saying I need a newer version. I purchased the upgraded app for my ipad and now I can't seem to upgrade my computer so that I can get access. I went to the app store but it won't let me download the newer version onto my computer? What is the point of putting things in the cloud if I can't access them?
JanNumbers documents from iOS need Numbers 3.2 on a Mac to open. And Numbers 3.2 requires Mavericks. If you are using Mavericks you can get Numbers 3.2 from the Mac App Store. It will be free IF you have Numbers 2 (iWork '09) installed. Otherwise you must buy it.
Your other option is to send the Numbers file as an Excel file via e-mail to yourself to open with an earlier version of Numbers. -
How does the Mac App Store compare to MacUpdate Desktop?
So far I have been using MacUpdate desktop to keep ALL my apps up-to-date, a very easy process. With the advent of the Mac App Store I now have to deal with two processes to achieve that.
What do all think about the usefulness of creating a separate and closed update environment with the Mac App Store? Is this better? Or not?MacUpdate Desktop will find updates to over 30,000 (and growing every day - MacUpdate is updated 24/7) Mac apps, screen savers, widgets, pref panes, and plug-ins. The MAS will only manage and update apps you have purchases from Apple through the MAS, and will not update non-apps (widgets, pref panes, screen savers, or plug-ins) and the MAS does not contain many popular commercial applications from major software companies. The MAS also requires an Intel Mac and Mac OS 10.6 or later - MacUpdate Desktop will run on PPC and update PPC apps too, on Mac OS 10.5 or later. You can easily browse and search for apps on MacUpdate.com, and then with a single click, have MacUpdate Desktop download and install any app of interest. The community support on MacUpdate.com - reviews and similar app suggestions - make discovering new apps fast and easy. Any apps purchased from MacUpdate Promo will also be displayed in MacUpdate Desktop, allowing you to easily download and install them as well. MacUpdate actively develops and updates MacUpdate Desktop and continues to add new features and benefits. Feel free to contact MacUpdate with any further questions - desktop<at>macupdate<dot>com.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link. <Edited by Host> -
Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud, but the mac app store says its already installed and won't let me upgrade. when I check the version of pages I am running it says 4.3. I just want to be able to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad. How can i get Pages 5.0?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You already have got Pages 5.0, but you still have got Pages 4.3, so Pages 4.3 is being opened instead of the newest version, being this the reason why you get a message telling you to update Pages to the most recent version.
If you don't need the old version, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete the old Pages icon or move it to an external drive. I don't recommend you to do this, as users are complaining about the lack of features of the new version.
Instead, what you can do is to put the new Pages icon in the Dock by dragging it from the Finder window to the Dock, so you can open the new Pages version from the Dock and you can open all your documents with it after opening the application -
Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on? First off they are not even pop ups....your crap blocks everything and don't save user names &/or passwords when you have it checked. Also in your tutorials about solving this issue says it has the word "OPTION" .......no, it never says option to allow you to bypass it and etc. Only thing is says is "ALLOW" . That would be nice , but the problem is it will not allow it from then on. It only allows it right then and then you have to refresh...after that to open again it blocks it again.....HOW STUPID?!!!!!
It always say that this is preventing this page from automatically redirecting to another page. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO...GO TO ANOTHER PAGE........I DON'T NEED YOUr BROWSERS PERMISSION TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHAT A *%#$&*(&*%$$%% BROWSER IS FOR TO GO TO OTHER PAGES......THEY ARE NOT POP UPS!!!!!
YOU STUPID BROWSER ACTUALLY BLOCKS EVERYTHING AND THAT SUX!!!
HELP!!Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes"?
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you want to keep.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Keep until: I close Firefox
You can choose to keep third-party cookies from visited sites if necessary.

Hi there, our mac has an IOS version 10.5.8 and i need to update it to 10.6.8 in order to update our itunes account....when i start softwear update it tells me that nothing needs to be updated and i also do not have access to the mac app store...How can i update my ios? thanks Matthijs
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
If you have a PPC Mac you cannot sync your idevice without a newer computer. See the end of this post for options.
If it says you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first:
Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After installing run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.
Jan. 2014 post by Kappy on doing all this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24599931
Options if you cannot upgrade: iTunes Store purchases can already be downloaded directly. Use iTunes Match to put non-Store music in iCloud, then download to your device from there. Backup your device directly to iCloud over a wireless connection. Photos can be downloaded from the Camera Roll using iPhoto or Image Capture. -

Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.

Does this procedure (deauthorizing iTunes) also effect the Mac app store, or do I need to also deauthorize it somehow before formatting my hard drive?
You only need do this in iTunes. See iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.

Why is the Mac App Store part of the OS?
After reading about issues a lot of people are having with the 10.6.6 update, I think I'll pass on it. I don't understand why Apple made the Mac App Store part of the system software. Why couldn't it be in iTunes like the iTunes & App store? Is Apple acting like Microsoft and pushing stuff on us that we may not want as part of the OS?
Sean Foley wrote:
There is something wrong with this. I hate when someone is pulling a fast one and think they are getting away with it.
What specifically do you believe Apple is getting away with? Basically, Apple is extending the same OS-level features to third party developers that in the past it has reserved for its own apps, including one-click download, security checks, & installation. Moreover, the terms & conditions of use are readily available, as is the same Help topic support as with any other Apple app -- all you have to do is read it.
Sure, you have to buy many of the apps in the Mac App Store, but what is slimy about that? Doesn't the word "Store" tell you that?
Does anyone know where to search for all those great applications now, or is getting a new OS the only answer.
Try a Google search on "Mac apps," or any of the related searches found at the bottom of the search results page.
And at least for now, http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ still works in the same way it always has. -
Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago, which I modified on 11/4/13, and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers. When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed and there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall it. When I checked "About Numbers" on my MacBook it shows "Numbers '09 version 2.3". Any suggestions as to how I can get the new version installed?
Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

I bought The Djay app, for iPad, but I can't download it on the Mac App Store, whitout having to pay the 20$ why is that
Because the developer needs to create and maintain the two versions separately and has chosen to charge for the Mac OS X version.

Hi. Does anyone know what video editing software is compatible with my MacBook - version 10.6.3? I am looking to edit films and already have Final Cut Pro, but am looking for something a little more basic and easier to use. Thanks. Vicki
Hi Cereskit
Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?

Here in the mac app store in Germany I bought me the Game GTA Vice City then i saw in the Internet that the app store has got the Game GTA San Andras but not for the app store in Germany. Why ?
Apple sells the apps in the stores that the developers wish to have them sold. This developer perhaps does not want to sell this app in Germany at this time.

Why can I not have the MAC app store application with my software update?
Why can I not have the MAC app store application with my software update?
You need to be running v10.6 Snow Leopard.
http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/
You can upgrade to Snow Leopard for $29.00 if your Mac meets the minimum requirements.
