  • Automatically create playlists when buying song collections

I remember that in previous versions there was a setting under Preferences/Store to the effect that when you bought an imix or another collections it would automatically create a playlist. Since this setting no longer appears in the prefs as of version 8, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a plist variable I could alter or add to re-enable this functionality.

Turning off the option - I doubt - will change the 'Purchases' list. I have it 'off' in my prefs and I still have all iTS purchases added to the 'Purchases' list.
From the iTunes Help menu and a search for "song collection": <You can set iTunes to automatically create playlists when you buy collections from the iTunes Store, such as iMixes, submitted by iTunes users; and iTunes Essentials, favorites chosen by an iTunes Store staff of experts.>

  • Why does Itunes automatically change the genre of my songs?

Why does Itunes automatically change the genre of my songs? I have assigned specifit genres but they're constantly changed without me doing it. ITs annoying. Does anyone know how i can stop this?

    welcome to the discussions
you may find that WMP is doing this for you.
There is a setting is WMP that means that it checks the info held in the file (and shown by itunes) against that held at Gracenote and 'updates' the info where there is any disagreement. On my copy its under the 'media library' tab.
Turn this off if its on.

  • Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?

    MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2012
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
    iTunes 11-2-2 (3)
    64-bit
Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?
For the past couple months I’ve noticed that iTunes has been changing genre information in my music library.  This is a problem because I’ve spent the past decade tweaking the metadata in my iTunes Library to be exactly the way that I want it (particularly with genre and grouping information).
I have a very large iTunes library and I’ve changed genre and grouping info for organizational reasons.  When iTunes changes the genre of my music, it’s effecting my smart playlists and causing a domino effect of mis-organization.  Tracks and albums are popping up in multiple genres, and things are getting disorganized very quickly.
I suspect that iTunes is changing the genre info of my purchased music back to how it appears in the iTunes store and that this is going to be a new ongoing Apple issue that is quietly ignored.  If that’s the case, then I would like some feedback from other users who may have some helpful advise to disconnect iTunes from the mother ship of the iTunes Store.  If this is the way it’s going to be, then I’ll simply stop buying music from iTunes and try to use iTunes as a stand alone music player (if possible).  If that is NOT possible, then I’ll be looking into moving my entire music library to different software and completely removing myself from iTunes.  After a decade of loving iTunes, that would obviously be a shame, but losing control of my library is a deal breaker.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Other notes/observations:
-I am NOT using iTunes Match
    -Genius is turned OFF
-Tracks being automatically edited is music that has been purchased from the iTunes Store
-Not all tracks purchased from the iTunes Store is being automatically edited
-If I Command-Info a track that has been edited by iTunes, the metadata changes back to what I had changed it to.  But ONLY when I Command-Info or play the track.  Otherwise the track stays lost in it’s reversed genre and the track disappears from smart playlists that it’s included in.

Yep, others are seeing the same thing and I have not seen a solution posted yet.
Send feedback to Apple and wait very patiently and keep fingers crossed they do something about it, eventually, someday.

    Hi
Probably because you have the MIDI Thru parameters set to loop?
Click in the background of the Arrange window, and in the Region Inspector (MIDI THRU) deselect 'Loop'

  • How do i stop Itunes auto creating playlists and auto playing imports?

HELP NEEDED - My PC crashed so i rebuilt with Windows 7, installed the latest itunes and so far so good. I then had to import my music library, first thing i noticed which it never did before, when i import folders it will automatically create a playlist for some of those imports, it doesn't create a playlist for every folder or album only some almost as if the smart playlist option is activated...how do i stop this happening? Second, when i import a folder Itunes autoplays the first song in each folder as it imports so it may play 2 seconds of a song or it may play a full song depending on the size of the folder, very annoying and because i have around 100 GB of music to import very very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    D

The current build of iTunes (10.4.1.10) appears to have a couple of issues with M3U playlists. The first is that when you import an M3U playlist, the list is created, and any files not already in the library it are added to it, but for some reason they just don't get added to the playlist. Secondly, when adding folders to the library, iTunes is also attempting to add any M3U playlists that it finds as well as any other valid media files not already in the library. The upshot is that iTunes may create a bunch of empty playlists corresponding to any M3U files you have scattered through your folders.
Use iTunes Folder Watch to scan your media folders for new files (and also for dead tracks) to avoid the issue. This is a more effective way of importing new media than simply adding in the entire media folder over and over again.
If you already have empty playlists you are struggling to delete manually then I've written a script for just that purpose called KillEmptyPlaylists.
As and when the time comes that you do want to import an M3U playlist then I have written another script to workaround the current difficulty called ImportM3U which does just what it says. It will also convert and add any WMA files present in the list on the fly whereas iTunes would normally ignore these.

  • Adding tracks automatically creates playlists

    Help!
I have 47,000 tracks to add to iTunes and when I begin the process, it immediately creates a playlist for each album.  I stop the import immediately and delete the 20 or so playlists that have been created, go back to File > Add to Library, select my folder, click Open and it does the same thing - it adds all of the tracks to my iTunes Music Library AND creates playlists for every collection of tracks it thinks is related!!!!!  You can imagine how out-of-control this would be if I were to import my entire library!!
I've looked through preferences for some "create a playlist for every album I import" or something along those lines but I don't see anything.  I'm running Mac OX 10.6 and iTunes 10.4.
Please let me know what I can do to prevent this from happening!  I want control over my own, personal playlists, which I created, then exported to file, then emptied out my entire Music Library to start over again fresh.  BUT this time, the fresh start is going to cause thousands of playlists to be created on their own.
    Can anybody help me?

You got the correct answer!  I meant to click "Correct" answer to give you the points but I clicked "Helpful" instead because I'm new to the interface and I'm really tired.
That's what it was.  I found the m3u files and moved them to my Playlist folder, then loaded up my library and ba-da-bing!  My music is back.  Thank you!
How can I give you the full "Correct Answer" points?  Moderator??

  • Automatically create playlists from all albums

Is there a way to do this so that I can use list view and play one album at a time? I've looked on the list and searched on the web.
I know you can make album play lists easily, but only one at a time, by hand. I mean to simply get all them in one move.
I know that the grid view gives you the equivalent, but the grid view consumes so much memory that it turns the computer into an expensive CD player. The cost of looking at all those little pictures runs to about 200 megs of memory for me, and that creates a difficulty for me. (Strange as it seems, I work on this machine, too.)
In list view, iTunes does a great job, keeping memory use within 50 megs -- no problems there.
When I moved my music from one file server to another, I lost my playlists. I had the xml file that other programs can use, but not apparently not iTunes to re-create playlists. Now I face the trouble of rebuilding them hand. It would be trivial to rewrite that xml file to change all the file paths, but I did not see a way importing the entire collection of playlists.
It would seem to me that internally the iTunes database maintains an album by album list of songs (to show you in the grid view). One more step would loop through these and create playlists that show up in list view, eh?
My favorite music player is Linux-only -- Rhythmbox -- which just gives automatically artist and album playlists, and keeps within 60 megs of memory. I tried the new Mozilla offering, Songbird, which is only in beta and has its own rough spots, but it, too, automatically gives you artist and album playlists. I don't know about the Windows players.
    tia,
    Barry

Why don't you use the Browser, you can filter your list view right down to a single album using it. Go to View>Show Browser to make it visible. Alternatively press the Command (⌘) and B keys together.

  • Can't get itunes to create playlist using songs on ipod

How do I integrate the songs on my ipod with the itunes on my new computer without losing my downloads? I successfully authorized my new computer (Windows XP) for my itunes account. When I access my account on the new computer it shows all the songs that are on my ipod (downloaded from old computer) but they are in faint print and I cannot play them or create playlists. Every time I log on, it asks me if I want to copy the songs from the new computer onto the ipod. I tried this once and it wiped out all my other songs. Luckily, I still had the old computer and was able to retrieve my music.

You need to connect the iPod to the original computer. Open Preferences and select the iPod tab. Choose "manually manage songs and playslists."
You need to do it on the computer you want to manually manage songs on, not the original computer.
You will now be able to create the playlists on another computer.
As stated abive, you will hav to set this on teh new computer, not the original.
Also, you don't even need an iPod conected to create or manange playlists on the computer.
If you want to create and manage playlists on the iPod you obviously will need to connect it to a computer.
But doing this only on the iPod is not a good idea because if theiPod crashes, you lose them.
Create them in iTunes and sync them to the iPod.

  • Automatically create playlist name from name of folder containing mp3s?

Hi, if I have a lot of folders with mp3s organized and distributed among them in a way I would like reproduced in iTunes, is it possible to create a playlist which is named after the name of the folder containing the mp3s I would like on the playlist?
For example, say I downloaded a folder named "XYZ" containing a variety of mp3s. Can I then create a new playlist in iTunes and then drag the folder in some manner to iTunes so that the name of the new playlist switches from "untitled" to "XYZ"?
    Thanks

Just drag the folder to the word Playlists in iTunes.
It will create a new playlist named same as the folder and add the files to iTunes and the playlist.

  • BIGGEST iTunes bug!! Really annoying!!

Okay, so I got this really annoying problem. Actually two. First is that I am using iTunes 9.2. So the first problem is this. I would import a song, with these ID3 tags for example:
    Title: Till I Collapse
    Artist: Eminem
    Album Artist: Eminem
    Album: The Eminem Show
    Genre: Hip-Hop
    Track: 18
So then I modify a few things like these:
    Title: 'Till I Collapse
    Genre: Rap
    Add an album cover.
I click on OK and just how it is supposed to work, the track info changes, and the album cover appears. I close iTunes, open that file. Right Click, choose properties, and look at the tags. THE TAGS DID NOT CHANGE. The genre is still Hip-Hop, the Title does not have an apostrophe before the Till I Collapse. Worst of all, the album cover does not show when I do tile view. I delete the file from iTunes library and import it again. It shows the old unchanged tags. Biggest problem.
Then a second problem hits. It somehow started showing that I got files missing. I click on locate other files from the library and it said that I am missing 119 files. The folder are still there, the files still there. To make it worse, the new songs that I have added using iTunes 9.2 that were missing have been reset back to the original tags. Now I gotta change them and gotta online and find the album covers again. Pathetic.
Edit: What is interesting is that all the missing songs that are shown now are the ones that I added using iTunes 9.2.

iTunes not actioning your changes is usually a sign that you don't have write permissions for the files in question. iTunes appears to accept your changes and may even update the display to show them, but is unable to write the changes out to the tag. It will not report this as an error. When you go back to the file the original tag will have remained unchanged and iTunes will reveal the old data.
Not sure about the second one, but let's guess that it's an extension of the first one. If your change would have resulted in a new filename, e.g. you change the artist, album, track name or number, then iTunes may have updated the database to point to the new location, but then failed to actually rename the file, again without generating an error.
