Why is my new printer is unrecognised?

Hi there,
I've just installed the driver CD for my new Canon MG 5350 printer and connected it to my wireless router.  Everything went very well, no error messages or problems were encountered and the printer indicates a steady connection.  My iBook G4 now shows the printer name in all the usual boxes but refuses to print, telling me to register the printer, which I have done several times to no avail.  I have also switched everything off for a couple of minutes but still get error message 311.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem please

Many thanks for your reply Garriry but I have managed to solve the problem.  My old OS X 10.4 requires a multitude of screens to be filled in with the printer name and I had simply missed one, hidden away deep in System Preferences.
Thanks again.

  • New print driver impacted existing printers - why?

    Hi friends,
Today I added a new driver to our print server which I have done many times before, only this time in adding the new driver, all other printers of the same manufacturer (Canon) stopped working, with the device on everyone's computer showing "Driver
    update needed".
The new driver was for an iDV-ADV C5250. The printers which stopped working are all C5051's. The driver was added but at this point, no other action was taken, the driver was not used for a printer (hardware hasn't arrived yet) so the very simple step of
adding a new driver in preparation for a new printer causes a major issue.
To resolve it on the Windows Server 2008 R2 print server, I selected any one of the existing Canon printers and set the driver to the new driver I added. Of course this did NOT work however then setting the driver back to what it was originally did resolve
the issue... kind of. ALL users were then required to delete and re-add the printer(s) on their computers. You can see this was not a popular fault.
Although I resolved it, I really want to understand why this occurred. Can anyone help? I really need to make sure this doesn't happen again. I thought maybe printer isolation might help but you can't set a driver to isolated until after it's added can you?
    Thanks.

    Hi Norton_San,
Based on your description, I understand that you add a new driver for iDV-ADV C5250 in printer server. However,
this operation affected all other C5051 printers (stop working). If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
When an administrator updates a printer driver on a shared print server, the Point and Print feature automatically
updates printer drivers from the print server to a client computer. Some printers may share driver files across several printer models or across a family of printers. An update to one of these shared driver files will cause client computers to update the drivers
for any device that depends on the updated files.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Hi, why can't I use my old e-print address with my new printer?cc=NL

I have a newer photosmart 5510 model and had to install it again. But when I tried to connect to the eprint centre it only worked when I removed my old printer. But than I couldn't use the emailaddress because I got the message it already existed... How do I change this? I used the same login.

    Hi,
My suggestion: change the old one to a different one then try again. Or you can do using this order:
    1. Add a new printer (now you have 2),
    2. Remove the old printer, (now only new one)
    3. And then Change the new printer to the old email address.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't add a new printer...

I am unable to add a new printer using the printer setup utility in system prefs.
I am logged in as Administrator
I am unable to add a new printer through the "add printer" dialogue in the printing preferences of any of my applications.
Why can't I detect them somehow and re-add them?

    Welcome to the Discussions Westar,
Just a few questions to start out:
Have you tried to Repair Permissions with Disk Utilities found in /Applications/Utilities?
Have you done any other repair/troubleshooting?
Were these printers already working with your system?
What is the make/model of the printer(s)?

  • Why can't I print from my ipad?

I've had my iPad for almost a year now and I like it a lot. It looks very good, it performs very well even though I'm far from reaching my goal of only taking my ipad to school, nothing else.
One important reason why this won't be the case for quite a while still is that I can't print from the iPad.
Let me explain. I make quite a number of worksheets. Being a teacher this is one of the things you do so that the students have something to write on and do exercises. Over the years there have been many of these and my initial thought was to put them all on the iPad and print them when needed. But imagine my surprise when I found out that printing from an iPad seems to be near impossible.
Other colleagues of mine got themselves cheap EEPCs and they work fine. They can access the local printer easily printing whatever they wish. But I can't do that! Unless my school buys a new Air-thingy printer from HP I just won't print there! And that just *****.
I've bought a sleek and expensive machine that is so sophisticated - that I can't use it the way I want to. And that isn't even ******** about the file system that seems to be equally messed up.
My question is, why can't I print from the iPad? Printing had been announced many times before the launch of iOS 4 and then, all of a sudden, nothing more. How can this be? Why do I have to buy additional software - which is not really cheap and far from certain to work at all - just to be able to print a few pages?
Please help me understand this, as I see it, major flaw of the iPad and iOS 5.

    Thanks guys,
I seem to have understood by now.
    To sum it up:
    - I can print with the iPad directly if the printer is Airprint compatible.
    - I can print via a number of more or less working apps.
I've downloaded some HP software for my iPad and even seem to be able to access it from some other apps, that is except Apples Pages app. Sigh! So whenever I have to make changes in my documents, I still can't print.
GoodReader on the other hand lets me send my documents to the HP app, but the app/HP won't let me print microsoft docs unless I register and send my documents over to HP where the printing prep is being made, then they send it back to me/my printer. Anyway GoodReader blows my layout apart, so I must change it on the iPad, but when I do …
    It's a big catch.
You must realize that printing really isn't that comfortable and that as a spoiled old Mac user I might be excused for wishing something more workable.
The truth seems to be that I've got to carry all those docs on a USB-stick, move them over to the Windows-machine at our school and print from there - which is what I do on a daily basis already.
All those workarounds that may or may not work (check out user comments on those printing apps!) are so annoying that my overall question remains pretty much the same.
But I could also rephrase the question: Why can't I print from the so-called best tablet office app even if I am equipped with all the apps I apparently need?
Please understand that this is not Apple-bashing in any way. This is a real problem for me in my everyday life. I won't be persuading my school to buy AirPrint printers just because of my little problem and I honestly don't want to spend more money on printing apps that seem never to even have gone through beta testing.
Still, thanks for you efforts. I guess I'll just have to wait for Microsoft Office for iPad to get that big problem solved.

  • Why can't I print a document from iphone5 to hp wireless printer?

Why can't I print a document from iphone5 to hp wireless printer?

    Try the following steps.
    Power off the printer.
Reset the phone by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.
Power cycle your router. Disconnect it from power for about 30 seconds and then power it back on.
Once it has completed the reboot, then power the printer back on and make sure it connects to the wi-fi network
Open the content on the phone that you want to print and attempt printing it again.
If that does not do it, then check to see if there is any newer firmware for the printer from HP.

  • Add a new printer to my MAC

    Hello Macs,
I need to add a new printer so that I can use it on my MB. It is an HP 5250 all in one. It is hooked up to a PC running Windows XP. The printer is on my home network, and is setup to be shared.
However, my MB does not "see" it in the printer preference plane. I'm thinking maybe I don't have the driver installed on my MB. The printer is at my Parents house, so I'd like to print stuff at their place. But we don't have any of the discs for setup.
I have an HP 930 setup just fine at my house. I have no problems with it, and it too, is ran through a PC running Win XP.
So why can't I use the printer at Mom's house????
How do I add their HP 5250 to my printer list????
Thanks everyone in advance, for your help, CHRIS

  • My Lexmark X2670 printer doesn't work right since I reinstalled the Firefox 3,6 version. I keep getting the alignment page to print over and over. Is there a problem between the two? Do I need a new printer driver? What?Daisynew66

I had to change my hrowser to Firefox because Internet Explorer 9 doesn't work with my ancestry.com program. I can't uninstall Internet Explorer 9. I got Firefox 4 and it didn't work either. I started having problems with my printer working at all then. l was told to go to Firefox 3.x. I looked and there is no 3.x it is 3.5 or 3.6. I downloaded 3.6. Now I keep getting a alignment page and end up having to shut off my printer. I'm using way too much ink. I'm almost out with no hope of getting more ink until I get paid. I can't find anyplace that says to update a driver or that I need a plug-in or what might be I've done everything I know to do.wrong. It has new port cables. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Do I need to uninstall the printer and reinstall it again? daisy

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Why won't my printer print with Windows 8?

Why won’t my printer print with Windows 8?
Have you just upgraded, or purchased a new computer with Windows 8, and now you can’t get your printer to work?  If so, this may help you.  A lot of people have questions about installing their printer on a new OS.  This will help you answer those questions and make sure that you get everything installed.
    Before You Start
Before you try to install the printer on a Windows 8 computer, you should check to make sure the printer is compatible with the new OS.  The link below will give you a list of the printers that will work in Windows 8.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03168175&lc=en&cc=us&destPage=document&dlc=en
If you have upgraded your computer to Windows 8 form another version of Windows, make sure to completely uninstall all of the software for your printer.  It should still print, but to use all the functions you will need to reinstall the software, if it’s available.
Another thing to consider is how you want to connect the printer to the computer.
USB.  You should make sure that you have a USB cable that is no longer than 6 ft. (roughly 2m).  Make sure to connect the printer directly to the computer.  Do not use a USB hub.
Ethernet cable.  Make sure you have the network setup, that you have a free cable port on the router, and that you have an Ethernet cable available.
Wireless.  You should make sure that you have the wireless network setup, and that you have the password for the wireless network.
     1.     Installing Via USB
Installing via USB in Windows 8 has become much simpler for HP printer users.  In other versions of the Windows OS you had to start the installation and wait for it to ask you for the USB connection.  If you didn’t, you would have to uninstall the printer from the Printers/Devices folder, and then start the install.  In Windows 8, that will not be a problem.  If you plug the printer’s USB cable in and then install the printer’s software, it will still work.  Now for in depth instructions on installing the printer via USB click the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03460670&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
    2.     Installing Via an Ethernet Network Connection
For an Ethernet network connected printer the install is amazingly simple.  All you have to do is connect the printer to the network.  Once you have that done, Windows 8 will automatically install the drivers for you.  Then, all you have to do is install the rest of the software, if it’s available.  It’s really that easy.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
    3.     Installing Via a Wireless Network Connection.
For a wireless network connected printer the install is amazingly simple as well.  All you have to do is connect the printer to the network.  Once you have that done, Windows 8 will automatically install the drivers for you.  Then, all you have to do is install the rest of the software, if it’s available.  It’s pretty much the same as an Ethernet install, just wireless.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
    Alternate Install Methods
With Windows 8, many printers’ drivers are installed with the OS.  These are known as InOS drivers, since they come built into the operating system.  If you have one of those printers, all you should have to do is connect it to the computer via USB, or connect it to the network via Ethernet or wireless.  Once you have that done Windows will handle the rest.  There are alternate methods of installing your printer if the normal methods are not working for some reason.  You can install the printer either using the Printer Install Wizard, or through Windows Updates.
    Printer Install Wizard:

Note: The Laserjet drivers for the Asia-Pacific and Japan won’t be released until a later date.  Check the support site linked below for driver availability.  I will update this post once they become available.

  • Officejet 4622, new printer today. black does not seem to work at all but all the colors do.

I print a test page through diagnostic tool and black square is blank. I cannot tell if the alignment prints properly as I have no example of what it should look like to ensure it is correct since the alignment fails to detect the alignment page. Scans work fine. I tried cleaning the print heads and still don't seem to get black to work correctly. This is a new printer purchased today 9.30.2012.

just in case anyone else encounters this problem, heres whats really going on and heres how to fix this annoying issue. its relatively easy to do and more efficient than wasting money on a new printer or having it repaired  like most people end up doing.
whats going on? the ink has clogged the printing heads and has solidified shut. the "clean print heads" feature the printer came with does not have the ability to fix this. that feature is to clean up dirty heads, not clogged heads. why hp decided to make this model without a simple to remove cradle is beyond me, but fortunately the cradle DOES come out and can be cleaned with hot water.
theres a few items you will need to make this happen the easy way or you could just break out the tree limb loppers, like i did, and vent your frustrations.
what you will need: a pair of needle nosed pliers, a T9 torx screwdriver head ( auto parts stores sell them for a couple bucks), some paper towels and an area to work (its easiest to do this in a corner of a room, on a small table or the floor).  keep in mind you are dealing with ink, so change out of your good clothes just in case and also grab a paper plate or a few sheets of printing paper to set the ink cartridges on as you work.
         1)  ok. lets get started. !!!FIRST UNPLUG THE PRINTER RIGHT NOW, SO YOU DONT ACCIDENTALLY DIE BY ELECTROCUTION!!!  i forgot and when i began unscrewing the first 6 screws, the chime kept going off and im like **bleep**? i was impressed by the safety measures hp took while engineering this model.
         2) the printer is now unplugged and then go to your corner work area and place the printer so there is a wall or barrier on its left and also a wall or barrier behind it. do this while facing it as if you were about to use it.
         3) now, what you have to do is open the printer like you are going to change the ink and on the right side there is a plastic guide that prevents the top from opening all the way. look on the side and you will notice it could pop off with your fingers. pop it off and open it all the way open so you could get at the screws the lid would have prevented you from accessing.
         4) lean the scanner portion and top portion against the back wall.
         5) all screws you will be removing are size T9H torx screws. there are ten total. there are 2 black screws in the front top and then 4 black screws in the back top. remove them and put them on your paper plate.
         6) next is 1 short silver colored screw located under the control panel, use your finger and feel around  beneath the  *  button. unscrew it, put it on the paper plate.
         7) next you are going to remove the face/control panel to get at the last 3 screws so locate the little illustrations on the top of the printer, there are 2 on the bottom left and 5 on the bottom right (1 and 2 on the left explain paper jam removals and then 1-5 on the right explain changing ink cartridges). then about half an inch south of the number 5 illustration, on the lip, is a plastic bracket. six inches to the left is another one then 6 more inches to the left, under the illustration number 2 (paper jam removal) is a third bracket. undo them using your fingernails. and just flip it up like car hood and then lay it down on the main top portion of the printer, minding the flat wire which is connected into the circuit board of the control panel (if the flat wire popped out because you got too rowdy on it, then simply insert it back in when you reassemble).
         8) next, unscrew the 3 longer silver screws which are located under the panel you just popped off. there is 1 on the left and 2 on the rightish side. toss em on the paper plate.
         9) now that all the screws are removed, take the face panel and partially pop it back together.
         10) then take the whole top ( the part with the little illustrations and lift it like a car hood, ONLY THIS TIME OPEN IT TO THE LEFT and balance it on the edge of the printer, leaning it towards the wall or barrier on your left. BE CAREFUL NOT TO YANK ON THE FRUIT STRIPE COLORED WIRES ON THE LEFT AND ALSO THE BLACK FLAT WIRE THAT CONNECTS THE SCANNING PORTION TO THE MAIN PORTION OF THE PRINTER.
        11) next grab the needle nose pliers and remove the 2 silver colored tension springs located behind the printer cartridges. pay attention where they were attached so you remember where they go during assembly. take a pic with your phone if you have to or simply re-figure it out like i did. toss em on the paper plate.
        12) then disconnect the 2 large flat wires and 1 small flatwire attached to the back of the ink carriage. take a picture or remember like i did. i imagine bad things may occur if you reverse them on re-assembly. grab the phone and take a quik pic to be sure.
        13) now remove the ink carriage, cartridges and all, by lifting the front first.  be careful of the little transparent ribbon in there that moves the carriage left to right and vice versa. you dont want to damage that little guy. now take the carriage to your paper plate. dont drip any ink or accidentally get it on your fingers without knowing or you will make a mess.
        14) remove the ink cartridges and set them on the paper plate, ink side up to avoid a mess, these things sometimes drip. set the plate off to the side. its time to clean the print heads.
        15) then go to the sink, with the empty ink carriage and turn the water on hot and then just let the empty ink carriage sit there with the water mainly going through the screen of the clogged color (inspect and make sure there isnt a little rubber gasket surrounding the little screen if there is dont lose it. i didnt look too closely and i dont think hp has them but i know some other printers do). it wont stain the sink but wash down any ink as it comes out to be sure. also notice there is a small circuit board attached to it. dont bang it up but getting it wet doesnt matter.
        16) keep doing this until the water runs clear.
        17) then use your finger and rub the screen gently with your finger and then rinse it, washing away the ink until the water runs clear. continue this until there is no more ink and the screens are clean. do it to all the colors just for good measures. the problem color that wouldnt print, you will notice takes longer to clean than the other colors.
        18) now look on the bottom side of the carriage. those wierd looking things are the heads. rinse them with hot water and wipe them with paper towels. then flip it over and blast the screen side again. also in between the screenside and the heads (on the side of the carriage) is an opening that is also probably gunked up. blast it with water too. then flip it over and wipe the heads again. repeat this step until nothing wipes away or until you are sick and tired.
        19) shake off then use paper towels to dry the entire unit. make sure the unit is dry.  especially inside the female plugs. blow in it or break out the hair dryer and gently dry it. dont sit there and melt it though with the blow dryer. but the sooner it dries the less likely your ink cartridges sitting on the paper plate will dry out. the ink wont dry out fast just dont take a nap or go out on a date until you are reassembled with the ink portion.
        20) now you have completed the cleaning of the heads and probably wont need to do this again for the length of time it was since you bought the printer. and just like a roadtrip you used a map to navigate, you will use these instructions in reverse for re-assembly. but keep in mind when re-inserting the 3 flatwires you disconnected from the back of the ink carriage, make sure you have the little metal contact points on the flatwires (male side) inserted so they touch the little metal contact points on the carriage plugs (female side). ALSO BE EXTRA CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE BLACK FLATWIRE CONNECTING THE SCANNER PORTION TO THE MAIN PRINTER PORTION. THERE IS A LITTLE GROOVE IN THE PLASTIC WHERE IT CAN BE SEATED TO GUARANTEE NO CRIMPAGE. USE IT. also make sure the 2 hinges of the scanner portion/lid are seated properly before fastening the the top with the 6 black screws.
now re-assemble the printer and reinstall the ink cartridges. and then plug in the unit, and turn it on.  if you get any notifications on the control panel saying the carriage wont move, then open the hood and take out the ink cartridges, push around and make sure the carriage is seated properly and that the tensioner springs are in place properly. repeat if neccesary until notifications go away or just do a test print and disregard the notification if you messed with it already a few times. thats what happened to me and the notification went away on its own. once its online, open the hp utilities and press the "clean the heads" button. do it 2x in a row and you will be back in style, with extremely rich and bold colors and yes, raven black print.
    p.s.
you can always take your aggressions out with the tree limb loppers or the tin snips like i did and snip out the center plastic that prevents you from taking the carriage directly out. this eliminates disassembly and re-assembly entirely. just make sure you DO NOT CUT THE TRANSPARENT RIBBON THAT MOVES THE CARRIAGE BACK AND FORTH. this way the next time it happens it only takes you 10 minutes before you are up and printing.
    enjoy!  -  Porf

  • Why can I not print all pages in a multi-page document?

Why can I not print all pages in a multi-page document?

We are using Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 11.0. It's on a relatively new laptop (Windows 8) and accessing the internet through Mozilla. The printer is an HP Officejet. When I open a multi-page Adobe document and try to print all pages, I only get 1-2, have to then say print page 3, then say print page 4, etc. We use Adobe on our other laptop and it prints all pages of all Adobe documents and we have never had a problem and he accesses documents on the internet also through Mozilla.

  • Why can I not print a decent photo?

    Hi
I used to have a iMac G4 and canon printer and the quality of photo printing was suspect so I upgraded my printer to a Canon iP6700D. There was no improvement however when I hooked my printer up to my work Laptop running Windows XP the pictures printed out sharply, just like a photo store. I have just upgraded to a new iMac G5 but back to the old grainy photos. I have tried almost every combination on the print wizard ie Quality & Media "Printing a Top Quality Photo" etc.
Has anyone any advice as to why I can not print great photos?
    David

    David:
Can you give us some info on the types of files, their pixel dimensions and the procedure within iPhoto that you're following to print?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Why can't I print using an HP printer and a mac with Mountain Lion and PSE9

HP printers tend to have long names. Try renaming your printer to something more simple.
Click on System Preferences in the dock or from the menu after clicking the apple icon (top left)
Under Hardware choose Print & Scan
Right-click or Ctrl+Click on your HP Printer and choose rename printer
Type a new name e.g. My Printer (you can also add a location if you wish)
    Then click OK
