Why is the startDrag() lag so choppy?

I have tried increasing the frame rate, it doesn't help.
I am compiling using AIR for iOS and running on a first generation iPad.
I have simple movie clips that get dragged around the screen. No memory hogs, it's just a little kid's game. And yet startDrag() and startTouchDrag() are really choppy. It's like dragging on one of those old 1 frame per second machines. My finger will land and .75-1 second later the Sprite will catch up. 1 second is a long, long time in a user interface. Other similar apps (not written in Actionscript) have smooth, silky drag functions. Even my 3 year old daughter notices how bad the lag is.
Is this just an AIR compiler problem, or am I doing something wrong?

Yes - actually the movie clip being dragged is nothing but dynamic text (I changed this from when I wrote earlier saying they were simple graphics. I had to make them dynamic. It didn't effect the drag). But that's the only thing going on.
But I have other apps where I drag dynamic text around and it works just fine.
Is there a setting in fonts embedding or something like that that would make it better?
(Hm, I just thought of this...in my other apps the dynamic text is being dragged over a bitmap and in this one it's being dragged over a vector. Would that make a difference?)

It's a glitch. THe wallpaper app is determined to fill the whole screen, even if it zooms in to do it.
If you go in through the photos app, 'send' your photo to be a wallpaper by tapping the little square with an arrow poking out of it, you will have a bit more scalability. not as much as before, but more than you do through the wallpaper settings.
Also, the higher resolution image you use the better your result will be. No idea when or if there will be a fix.

Why is the sound from my bose mobile speakers "choppy" when paired with my Mac Book Pro but not my other apple products?

I have bose mobile speakers that use bluetooth to be paired with devices. I have successfully paired it with my ipad and iphone and the sound is phenominal. However when paired with my MacBook PRo the sound is very "choppy" and not clear. Would anyone know why this is?

Having sent my speaker to Bose to have it checked over, they returned it to me unable to recreate the problem saying it was fault free. They included the following instructions to adjust bluetooth settings to 40.
Open Terminal and use the command:
defaults write com.apple.BluetoothAudioAgent "Apple Bitpool Min (editable)" 40
Restart, turn off both devices then re-pair.
This has vastly improved the quality of sound on the speaker, although not ALWAYS perfect as have found that if I am working on the keyboard or browsing the internet at the same time as listening to music via Bose speaker there is a little jumpiness.
Further research in various forums has shown there are other settings to experiement with:
30 – Low audio quality
40 – Medium audio quality
48 – High audio quality
58 – Excellent audio quality

WHY does the ICS update lags?

I recently updated the Xperia Arc S, to the ICS 4.0.3 update released by Sony. I was on 0.62 previously, and did a factory reset before as well as after the update. The laggy transitions, led me to do a phone repair too. The lags became less, but its not smooth at all. no where near GB.
Just wanted to know the reason(s) for the problems...
Please tell us if its any of the following, or something else:
Case 1:
The update is not supposed to be laggy at all, the test devices here at Sony work smooth.
Request: Please upload a video of the final ICS update (similar to the beta videos), to show us what maximum smoothness we can expect. Also, if possible, give us a proper step by step procedure, to how to update our phone, to get the best possible performance out of it.
Case 2:
The ICS Rom is heavy resource demanding, and things will not get any smotther.
Case 2.a: None of the further updates will solve the issue
Case 2.b: The next updates will solve the issue, as the later ICS releases by goolge are beter in terms of resource management
PS: The CM9 (based on ICS), ran very smooth on the Galaxy Ace (Tried it myslef). The HTC One V, runs ICS smooth enough (not as much as Xperia GB, but better than Xperia ICS)

They updated saying that those issues were taken care of...
We we would like to clarify that above mentioned “challenges” have already been addressed by our SW engineering teams. For instance, we have not only optimised the RAM management by making the RAM usage for internal apps as good as possible, but we will also introduce a Performance assistant at start up when running ICS....
We have also worked with quite a few partners in regards to architecture optimisations for SQL handling. In addition, we have also optimised the hardware usage. And as a result of this article, a number of app developers have notified us that they are evaluating if HW optimisation will be needed or not for their apps....
But still the updte lags. Why? And can we expect some corrections to make it smmooth and bug free?

Why does the iPad 3 have so much lag on ios7?

My iPad 3 has so much lag on ios7 i cant believe apple would pass this i have restored twice and set up as new ipad and still does not fix the lag. It takes at least 10 seconds to change a wallpaper even rotating the ipad lags also safari is really bad wish i didn't update now. Ios7 is smooth as butter on my iPhone 5 how could apple get it so wrong on the iPad! There is alot of reports of ios7 being laggy on the iPad 4 and mini aswell. I cant seem to get rid of the lag no matter what i try does anyone have any suggestions? Apple?

It is luckily that an iOS 7 update will be coming out this week. As it's 7.0, there is a lot of bug so just wait to you update for a 2 week. Try restarting your iPad by holding the power button and the home button down at the same time till you see a apple, that will help.

Why does JRockit updates lag behind Sun's?

If I understand correctly, JRockit's class libraries are exactly the same as Sun's.
Sun has already released update 8 for their 1.5.0 JRE, and JRockit is still at update 6, which means that the class library bugs fixed in update 7 and 8 are still present in JRockit.
Why does JRockit updates lag behind Sun's? Judging by [url http://forums.bea.com/bea/message.jspa?messageID=600038245&tstart=0]this post, this lag is measured in months!
Doesn't the VM development happen separate from the class libraries? It should be possible to release a new JRE with the "stable", QA'd JRockit VM and the newest class library (with all its bug fixes) within a week or so, instead of months.

The class libraries are almost identical, correct. But a JDK update from Sun almost always contains changes in other components than just the class libraries. Some of these affect JRockit, in particular the native libraries (AWT, I/O, etc). Changes in the class libraries may cause performance or stability regressions.
With every release of JRockit we certify our JDK (Sun classes + JRockit JVM + other components) on a large number of platforms. We did a count earlier this year and came up with around 80 different combinations of JDK level, OS and hardware that we have to test in every release by the end of this year.
On these platforms we run a huge set of tests, including performance and stress tests. Even though a large part of our QA is automated, it is simply not possible to run everything in parallel so there is a certain minimum amount of time this certification takes. On top of that we have a set of time-consuming tests that have to be run manually.
To summarize it is simply not possible to do this without some lag. And JRockit has a much quicker uptake than almost all other 3rd party JDK providers (many of them with JVMs based on Sun HotSpot). One example is that it took IBM almost 18 months to get their first J2SE 5.0 implementation out of the door.

Why is the iPhone 5C £319 from apple and £399 from the likes of Carphone Warehouse or Virgin Mobile??
What am I missing?
Having been with Virgin for a very long time and using basic phones I need something that's going to let me do what I need on the go without lagging and crashing so I'm going for an iPhone...possibly the 5C.
Do you think Virgin would supply me with a sim to go in the iPhone if I bought it from Apple??

If Apple has decided to sell the 5C at £319 ( as shown on UK store) it will be NOT carrier locked and will work with any of the UK Apple Approved carriers ,including Virgin
(forget CPW their units will lock to the first carrier sim used )
I imagine if you have a contract Virgin will provide the correct sim provisioned for your number ,but ask them first

Hmm this is interesting, so far ios6 is actually ALOT less laggy and less crashes for me on my iphone4 than ios5.1.1 with the exception of the new apps store app, it crashes all the time. My ipad2 is the device thats giving me MAJOR lag and crashes with ios6. Im thinking about trying a restore to see if that fixes it. You might want to try the same if you havnt already. I still kinda think this version of iOS is iOS vista edition lol

Why is the contents of Safari's downloads folder different than the actual folder that resides in my users folder?

Problem is if I delete that .plist I'll delete those downloads. I'm still able to launch those downloads from that location so that tells that file is probably not corrupted. I need to be able to located that folder and transfer the downloads from it before I do anything like this. So that begs the question, where is that folder located? When I do a folder search I'm taken to a Downloads folder, but it's not the one that is showing up from within Safari as it's contents are too different.

You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless... Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.
