Why need to restart server while modifying the servlet class
Hi,
i have some doubt, i hope any one can clear my doubt about servlet
why we need to restart the web container while every time we modify the servlet class code

When you deploy a web application to a web container, you are deploying the
.class files of your servlet not your source code. There is no servlet source code on the container (shouldn't be).
So if you change your source code, the container knows nothing about it until you compile the code
to create new .class files and then replace the container's class files with the new ones.
You can configure most servers for hot deployment and/or start them in debug mode to ease the cycle during development.

No NWDI activity asked while modifying the Web Dynpro java code
Hi,
We have 2 team in our project, one offshore team and one onsite team. We have NWDI also in our landscape.
I have created 1 project in my local NWDS from DTR using create project option from NWDI track , when i do any modification in that web dynpro code once it appears in my local NWDS, its asking for the activity, all this is fine.
But when my offshore team send me this project from offshore (offshore team also working on this project), i go to my local machine under C:\Documents and Settings\user\.dtc\0\DCs\xyz.org\.. (workspace, where all the project folders are created in my local machine ) and replaces the web dynpro project (which i created using create project option from NWDI track ) with the project which offshore teams gave me that is I copy paste the project folder I received from offshore team.
I closed the NWDS and reopened NWDS, i did repair and reload also, but now when i try to do any code modification in that project its not asking any activity at all. So i want to know the reason why its not asking activity at all while modifying the code.
if now i do any code changes, and since no activity is asked, it wont be transported to QA and Prd system.

I think you might be right that some files are in read as well as write mode. I went to my local machine and checked the project folder C:\Documents and Settings\user\.dtc\0\DCs\xyz.org\testproject\_comp\.dcdef file , its not in read only mode, that is read only flag was not checked.
I again checked the mode of .dcdef file in other web dynpro projects which are asking for the activity in all those projects mode of .dcdef was read only that is read only flad was checked in .dcdef file. ( I am not sure is .dcdef file only giving this problem that si because of this file not in read only mode I am not asked for the activity)
So could you plzz tell me how to make in read only. when ever i click the read only check box of .dcdef file and reload the project in my NWDS. that read only check box is getting removed. how to do this..
regarding your query, landscape in offshore team and onsite team are different, client has not provided nay access to its landscape to ofshore team so offshore team can not check in / check out the code written by me and same applies to me I can not check in / check out the code written by offshore team , only option is offshore team do some changes in the code and send the project folder via email and I have to deploy in client landsacpe and do further modification. -
Error in AS02 while modifying the costcentre

While modifying the costcentre in AS02 getting an error message stating " You cannot change the depreciation periods". Full description of the message can see below. Please advice how to resolve the issue.
SYST: You cannot change the depreciation periods
Message no. AA662
Asset affected: 000009710401-0000
Diagnosis
Processing terminated because the number of depreciation periods in company code 9440 has been changed. However, you cannot change the number of periods in your live (productive) system.
Procedure
Change the depreciation periods back to the original value in company code 9440. The number of depreciation periods is determined by the fiscal year version and the use of half-periods. At least one of these parameters was changed.
If you want to change your system so that you can now work with half-periods, you have to use depreciation keys with time-dependent period control in that company code.
If you need to make general changes to the number of periods for calculating depreciation per fiscal year, you will have to consult your system administrator.

the following settings are relevant:
1) in the depr.key: T090NA-XDAILY
2) in the asset: ANLB-PERFY
ANLB-PERFY = 365 and T090NA-XDAILY = X => correkt
ANLB-PERFY = 12 and T090NA-XDAILY = initial => correct
The Other constellations are not correct and lead to AA662.
Please mark: ANLB-PERFY is set at the point when you create an asset and
it can't be changed later in customizing.
Most probably you have ANLB-PERFY = 365 and T090NA-XDAILY = initial.
Solution:
1) Use another depreciation key where T090NA-XDAILY = X
2) Make a transfer to another asset where ANLB-PERFY = 12
3) To change ANLB-PERFY per ABAP or debugging is not the from SAP Recommended way, but it is an easy solution and it works.

What you need to keep in mind that both system should be in network and /sapmnt should be mounted into DI server.
We have tested it into 2 different Linux version yesterday.

I am able to run this application well in JDeveloper using the IntegratedWebLogicServer.

Actually... I am not looking for any package. I want to modify the given package or create a new one. So for that... when we modify the package... then we can give either info, prompt or task. On the left side... only prompt and info are given. For task there is option for task only ... but what should be the value inside that task .i.e "task name" and its use.
My doubt is about the task. I dont know which all task I can give and what is the use of those task.

no where it mentionned the manifest.fm file is... INSIDE the .jar!
Your comment "a zip" made me attempt to open it with winrar, and I found a manifest.fm file inside!

no where it mentionned the manifest.fm file is... INSIDE the .jar!
Your comment "a zip" made me attempt to open it with winrar, and I found a manifest.fm file inside!
So far I was editing the one at the "source" of my project and rebuilding it with netbeans.
I am going to try that now.

Where to store the servlet classes
can anyone tell me where to store the servlet classes(inside a package)in oracle9iAS used with oracle8i database ?
Also how to deploy an ejb in oracle9iAS. should we have to use oracle8i deployment guide or any other procedure??

Why we need a proxy server while we are using Web services?
Hi guys,
i am new to web service.
i tried to implement the web services thru Sun One Application server.
thru one of my web service operation only i am establishing connection with the database.
by that time it has thrown the exception "*connection with the host could not be established*".
but i created a proxy setting thru netbeans and the the database connection established.
What is the difference?
When i tried to conect with database thru a normal java program i never created a proxy.
Why i need in case of web service.
For kind information: We have firewall in the network...
can any one tell me briefly What is the need of proxy setting over there???

after a long struggle, i found the answer for this question.
that is In Sun One Application Server, we have the WS-Plugin (Web Server Plugin)
that plugin is used to redirect the HTTP request to a Web Server from the Application server.
In default this plugin will be in enable mode.
As long as WS-plugin is enabled, we need to proxy setting to handle any HTTP service.
is i am right?
if anyone have better solution that this, pls post that here.

Not able to find Report - Standard templates or Report - Custom templates view in Administration - BIP reports in Siebel 8.1.1.3?
We have applied 8.1.1.3 patch on 8.1.1.0
below are the steps followed
Reports are not generated after 8.1.1.3 patch installtion.
we have also followed to below steps mentioned for this issue in oracle support.
"In order to resolve this behavior it is necessary to ensure that the 8.1.1.3 FixPack has been applied to the Siebel Tools installation. This will provide an additional .zip file in the REPPATCH folder of the Siebel Tools installation. Once this has been done please then follow the configuration steps as documented :
change sysprefix to X_ before sif import and chage back to SBL_ after sif import.
1) Import the sif files from Siebel\8.1\Tools_1\REPPATCH\12-1VMBCSV.zip
2) Import the 4 SIF files in the following order:
S_XMLP_REP_TMPL_02112010.sif
SBL_XMLP_REPORT_SELECTION_FLG.sif
Report Template BC.sif
Report Template Registration Applet.sif
3)Apply the DDL for table S_XMLP_REP_TMPL and compile repository
Once the above steps have been completed the Selected Record flag will appear in the Report Template Registration views."
we still not able to generated able to generate reports even after following above steps.
