Why no good call blocking app?

Is there any good way to block calls?  The gov. No Call List does not seem to be very effective.

The do-not-call registry is a partial answer becase the telemarketers are not supposed to be accessing cell phones to begin with, but some do, and there are so many loopholes in the do-not-call regulations that a great many get through and filing a complaint is pointless.  Anyone who you have ever done business with and charitable organizations are exempt.  Anyone you have ever done business with is a very nebulous category, all you have to do is buy something on-line, in a store and they have you.  If you buy in a store and are required to put your phone number on the check, if you use a check, they have you.
All of that said, file a complaint, if it holds up they will get a fine of $29,000 per violation.

I am in need of a good call blocking app for iPhone....please any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

As Randy Landry1 says, Google for "silent ringtone", download and install on you iPhone as a ringtone.
Now create a contact for the offending phone number. Assign the contact to the silent ringtone and set no vibrate.
When that number calls it will not ring, nor vibrate. It will light up the screen, but if you do not see that, it will not bother you. They could leave voice mail, but that is easily deleted.
And if it is a situation where the are violating the do not call list, you can use the missed call log to report the number to the FTC.
Also, if the calls are abusive or threading, and the leave a voice mail, you something to show the police.

  • String based call block app

Hi everybody, good day to all
Is there any call blocking app that can make rules based on starting number of caller. For example, accepting all call that start with "+", "00", "01", "02", etcc
There are many such apps in android.
    IMran

Which call blocking app did you install?
As far as I am aware, there are no apps for un-jailbroken phones that can block calls, as legit third-party apps are not allowed to changed core iOS features.

  • Why aren't number-blocking apps allowed?

I want to block a number.  I also want to block all unidentified numbers.  As a female, it is sometimes necessary to screen calls.
I've been all over looking for a blacklist app of some sort but the only thing I can come up with is Apple has banned such apps on their phones.
I don't want advice on alternative methods of blocking, I just want to know why.  What is the rationale?  What possible good does such a ban do for Apple?

My question is, once again, why won't Apple allow such an app?  They do exist, why not here on the iPhone?
My answer once again - 3rd party apps don't have access to private iOS APIs for security and other reasons. Such a function would need to come direct from Apple.
Paying $5 each to block out every unwanted number seems silly when there are, indeed, apps that can and do do this.
Your carrier charges $5 each to block out every unwanted number - $5 for each number?

  • When comes a OS integrated Call Block Option?

Hello. I wrote an eMail to support @ blackberry.com around 5 Minutes ago. Then i got an Auto Reply, that i need to Pay to Contact BlackBerry. Now i know why even my Questions on their Twitter Accounts got unanswered since April... -.-
Here is my eMail Text. Hope some of the Devs can bring this up to a TeamLeader. Sorry about my bad english in advance.
    Hello BlackBerry Support.
I would like to know, when we get the OS integrated Option to Block SPAM
Calls or Calls from People stalking us?
I have no Option to Block Calls Carrier Side as my Carrier does not
    support it.
And: I will never use a 3rd Party App again to Block Calls + SMS as i
had the experience of stealed/lost/misused Contacts+Data in the past.
Therefore, i hope for a OS integrated Option ASAP. I wait for it since
10.0 and it is very sad, that a so called "Modern Communication Device"
still dont show a sign of it or even rumors of it on the 10.2 Beta.
Even other Options like Blocking all Calls/Contacts not in my List with
"Parental Controls" fails for me, as i need to be reachable 24Hours for
Coordination and other things even for People which are not in my List.
In case of emergency, there is no time that those People contact me i.e.
per eMail just to get on my Contact List.
I am not alone when it comes to this. Here are a few Links to the

To be fair i stop here. I took enough of your Time. Just want to let you

Thank You and i hope for a positive answer of an OS integrated Option
    Have a nice weekend.

  • Call Blocking -- Why can't we do it?

The simple question is, "Why can't we have an app or option to block unwanted calls, without jailbreaking the device?"
Some of you are going to say, "You can through your carrier." This is only partially true.
Verizon allows you to block 5 (just 5) calls via their website. But why have to go to their website to do this? What if you have a company-paid line and don't have login access to their site? Why do you have to renew your blocked numbers every 90 days?
My Blackberry Storm had an app that simply intercepted the call and dropped it or directed it to VM, if I had put the number on my block list. Blocking the contact was a simple as selecting the number from the incoming call list and choosing, "Block this contact" from the menu.
This seems to be related to the lack of flexibility in how calls are received by each contact. There are no separate controls for volume and vibrate that can be set per contact. If there were you could turn off vibrate and silence the ringtone for contacts you didn't want to be disturbed by, at the very least.
Had I known this simple functionality was not available I would not have bought this phone.

    Thanks for the replies.
roaminggnome: I know it's not a feature. I am lamenting that very fact. And, yes, it was a great feature of the Blackberry (and others). Why does Apple not allow it? There has to be some business reason because it should be easy enough to accomplish if apps could intercept a call before it alerted you.
I also know that true call blocking is a carrier-level function. Wouldn't it be great if you could block the number on your iPhone and the option was saved on Verizon's server? Why not? Aren't smart phones supposed to be smart? I can easily block calls on my home phone through AT&T's U-Verse service.
Instead you have to jump through hoops to create a silent ringtone (or buy one). You have limited SMS tones to choose from and people talk about jailbreaking their phone just to add more. This was all easy and free on the Blackberry.
The Google Voice idea would be great if my true cell number weren't already out there. I really don't want to have to change numbers and have to redistribute it to all who should have it.
I really thought the iPhone would be like the Mac, with lots of cool options and functionality. I've had Macs since 1984. I may have been mistaken.

  • Why Apple does not provide for call block / blacklist function on iphone?

If Apple frowns upon jailbreaking the iPhone, why not AT THE LEAST endorse and make available third-party application that can provide a decent call block / blacklist function (like the Call Blocker for BlackBerry)?
Can an Apple representative provide feedback pls?
[Most telcos do not provide call-screening as a value-add service. Even if they do, a more cost-effective method is still the better option.]

Have you asked your service provider if they offer any call blocking service? I know here in the USA, AT&T does, although they do charge $4.99/month for the service (it is part of a parental control package that allows control of both numbers that can be blocked from calling you, and numbers that your iPhone can call to).
On-phone black list apps typically work by using caller id info and looking it up against the apps own database of numbers you've entered. So your phone still rings at least once, as the phone needs to allow a brief connection for the app to get the caller id info before disconnecting a number flagged for blocking. There really is no way to truly block calls from the phone itself, you need your service provider to be on board with the idea, so they can dis-allow the call at the switch and truly block it from ever reaching your phone.

  • Why is Call Block not available?????

I've started getting these harrasing political phone calls from the same number. In the past,
I remember that I could use Call Block (*60) to block them. I now see that the feature  is
"no longer available to new customers". So how do I keep these cretins from ringing my phone????
I subscribe to Freedom Essentials, so I have Caler ID, Forwarding, and Voice mail. I never noticed
that they don't mention Call Block now.

There's always the Do Not Call List but unfortunately politicians are exempt.  Like how they write the laws to suit their needs????
You could check with your states public utilities commission or verizon to see why it is no longer being offered.

  • Why is apple blocking downgrade for iphone 4 and why apple is selling defective apps??????

First thing i cant downgrade from ios4.3.4 to 4.3.3 why? secondly, why do there are defective apps in itunes store? and will my money will be refunded or not? why cant we try products for some hours to make a buying decision? there are thousands of questions unanswered, i just have device with me and apple is remotely controlling it, why are u blocking users freedom?????

First thing i cant downgrade from ios4.3.4 to 4.3.3 why?
Because doing so is not supported - primariy since the iPhone's baseband is often updated or changed with a firmware update. Since 4.3.4 addressed a potential security issue involving the download of a PDF document from a nefarious website, what is the reason for wanting to downgrade to 4.3.3?
secondly, why do there are defective apps in itunes store?
Because Apple doesn't do extensive testing with every single app. Apple primarily checks apps not accessing any private iPhone API's for security reasons, apps do not violate Apple's terms of use for the app store, and the app does what is says it does - based on the detailed description provided by the developer for the app. Just as Microsoft has never thoroughly tested or done any testing at all for every single 3rd party Windows app, Apple doesn't do any thorough app testing - that is the app developer's responsbility - no different for 3rd party apps on your computer.
and will my money will be refunded or not?
That is up to the app developer.
why cant we try products for some hours to make a buying decision?
With many apps, there is a free version and a paid version. You can try the free version first if available before purchasing the paid version.
i just have device with me and apple is remotely controlling it, why are u blocking users freedom?????
This is a user to user help forum only. You are not addressing Apple here.
If this is how you feel, exercise your freedom to sell your iPhone. Use the proceeds to purchase a device you believe you'll have complete freedom with.

Why can't I block certain people face timing and imessageing me? I keep receiving random facetime calls every 5 minutes got to the point where I have has to turn facetime off.

I'm having the same problem, but it's also coming through on my computer, through my Apple email address.  I have a very short Apple email, and little kids are trying to facetime their little friends, and then when I tell them I'm not their friend, they FaceTime or iMessage me even more, thinking that I'm still their friend, and I'm just kidding around.
I can't block the kids before they call...I don't know who they are.  I want to restrict my FaceTime to only my phone number, and block all FaceTime and iMessage requests that are coming in through my email address.  Can I do that?

For one thing, true call blocking (ie. where the call NEVER actually connects through to your number) can only be done by the service provider at their switches.
The best a device can do is allow the call to connect, and then use the caller ID information to compare that to a list of allowed and a list of disallowed caller IDs.  That is a feature known as blacklisting, but it is not the same as actually blocking a call completely.
So as suggested, contact your carrier and ask what they can do for you.

  • Why I phone doesn't have a call blocker

Why can we block unwanted calls, lots of phones have this mode but no  I phone.

This has been discussed a couple times in the past few months...Apple has just not incorporated the call block procedure in the iOS.  If you really want it, give Apple feedback:
