Why Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes

As we all know , Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes.
But i'm very confused .
Why Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes ?? what's its essential?

Creating a function based index creates a hidden virtual column (you'll see it if you query user_tab_cols) and once you index a virtual column you can no longer shrink the table:orcl> create table t1(c1 number,c2 as (c1 * 2)) segment creation immediate;

ORA-10631: SHRINK clause should not be specified for this object
orcl>so the issue is not with function based indexes per se, it is a level beneath that. Perhaps because the virtual column has no physical existance, when the row is moved there is no reason for Oracle to realize that an index needs updating? I haven't attempted to reverse engineer this, I would be interested to know if anyone else has.

I see 10g Rel 2 limiation with function based index while doing segment shrink. Is their a workaround? I tried to drop the function based index before shrink, still shrink is taking several hrs to complete.

Analogy: suppose you have 1 million barrels filled with water near 85% maybe less, now you spilled ...say 40% the total water, maybe you have 400,000 empty barrels or the equivalent (here comes the overhead) you are going to concentrate the water in 600,000 barrels and return the empty ones to the "Oracle Server" store, just to reclaim them gradually until you have the starting 1 million barrel.
Our advise: keep the objects as they are, both table and index. Oracle will use released space as efficiently as he can, which is (at that level) better than us.
You're worried about the index space? much better leave it now, that's the structure which may cause the major part of overhead.

10.1.3 - Create Table Wizard - function based indexes?

Is the ability to create function based indexes via the Create Table Wizard planned for the 10.1.3 production release?
It appears the Wizard under step 7 has the ability to enter "function" expressions. However an error dialog appears if you enter anything but a column name.

HT4898 Why is Apple downgrading sync support for Mail with iCloud?

In the past, if I didn't move forward when Apple moved forward, all that happened was that I did not have access to new features.
This time, with the demise of MobileMe and the introduction of iCloud, if I don't move forward I lose features, but even worse, even if I do move forward, I still lose features.
In particular, the lack of syncronization under iCloud of Mail's Rules, Accounts, and Smart Mailboxes means that on our several machines I have to manually do updates multiple times, which of course leads to multiple mistakes.
In my view, what Apple has done has the look and feel of customer abuse, something usually attributed to another large tech company. I can't avoid losing functionality, whether or not I move forward with Apple.
The word disgraceful comes to mind.
Is there a good reason for Apple's policies that concern Mail-feature synchronization? I'd like to hear them.

i have call a firebreath default echo function in my firefox extension using firefox v33 browser. its not working, it returns type error:echo is not a function. But the same function successfully called in firefox v28. So whats the actual problem? why firebreath dll function not supported in firefox v33?
note In echo function, i have create a messagebox to display while calling in that function. it shows in v28 but in v33 exception throws like type error:echo is not a function.

Airplay not supported for NBC with the ios7 upgrade

Upgraded to ios7 for my iphone 4s and when trying to view NBC shows, error message is received indicating that Airplay is not currrently supported. Airplay is/was supported for my ipad 3 for NBC, but the upgrade to ios7 on the iphone 4s seems to be problematic and I cannot view the shows but I can only hear them (no visual/only audio is received).
Is there a fix for this problem? I am really disappointed that this is happening since all the other channels work, except NBC.

How to know column name (not an expression) used by function-based index?

Hi guys,
Is there any way to know exact column name used by FBI? If I correct, there is SYS.ICOLDEP$ table that has mapping between index/table columns, but I don't see how it could be uniquely joined with the rest. I know about USER_IND_EXPRESSIONS, but the task is to know exact column name, not it's expression.
This required by our so-called SQL preprocessing of DB schema update utility, which parses stmt (INSERT in our case) and should check against PK/UNIQUE key values.

I don't think this is possible in 10g or 11g because :
1. dictionary keeps track of column number in index and not in table
2. the expression used in CREATE INDEX is a system generated column
You would have to parse the expression from USER_IND_EXPRESSIONS:

Segment Shrinking script erroring out due to Function based indexes, lobs,.

Following is a script i made for freeing up(SHRINK ing and resetting HWM) the space in Tables and its indexes. Due to the existence of LOB Segments and Tables with Function based indexes, this script was erroring out. So i was wondering if there is a way to find out the segments which are eligible/not eligible for Shrinking so that i could make necessary changes to the below script.

You can use USER_LOBS views to look for LOB columns in the segments and ALL_INDEXES.INDEX_TYPE tells if the index is function based index or not.

Support for triggers for tables with clustered column-store indexes

Hello,
We are very excited about the new clustered column-store indexes in SQL 2014 and our performance tests shows significant performance gains. However, our existing functionality relies on triggers and they are not allowed on tables with column-store
indexes. Does anybody have information as to whether allowing triggers on tables with column-store indexes is anywhere on the radar?

P.S. We spent a lot of time considering various work-around to avoid triggers, but the amount of work we would have to do is simply overwhelming, so we are considering delaying our upgrade until such functionality hopefully becomes available.

My gut reaction is that this restriction is likely to remain for the forseeable future. Columnstore indexes are intended for data warehouses, and while I don't do data warehouses myself, I cannot say that a fact table is where I expect to find a trigger.
But if you think that there is a good business case for permitting triggers on columnstore tables, submit a suggestion on

There are also iSwifter, Photon, Skyfire, etc., some only support Flash some support Java and Flash.
Adobe never made a version of Flash for iOS and closed their mobile flash division a couple of years ago. You can get Flash on other personal devices but you will be using a 2 year old version that has not been patched for security vulnerabilities.
When the original iPhone was released Mr. Jobs said it would never run Java as it was old technology and a security risk. Nothing has changed since.

ERROR OGG-01148 programming error, data type not supported for column

I am getting following error when I put null in insert statement
2011-03-31 18:30:45 ERROR OGG-01148 programming error, data type not supported for column TXID in table advoss.tblaudittrail.
I am replicating MySQL 5.5.9 to Oracle 11g rel2 via goldengate 11

I am able to diagnose what is cuasing the problem
unsigned flag was the culprit of this error
I am able to insert null after removing unsigned flag.

V-41 tcode error :Table 304 is not defined for use with condition type PR00

Hi All,
I am trying to create a BDC using the transaction V-41.
The first screen has fields:
ConditionType and Table, where I have to fill values ZPM1 and 800 respectively.
But as soon as I enter the tcode v-41 and say enter, the above mentioned fields are already having the values 'PR00' and ' 304'. Normally if you take an example fo t-code VA02, all fields are blank.
Then an error message is displayed:
Table 304 is not defined for use with condition type PR00
This behaviour is not allowing me to use the BDC feature.
Please advise me on why this is happening. What are the possible solutions I can use to clear these values programmatically?
Can anything be done via customizing?

Well the problem you are facing is having the following solution:
Table 304 is not defined for use with condition type PR00
Message no. VK024
Diagnosis
The selected condition type does not fit in the condition table, that is the basis for the condition record. Alternatively the selected condition type is not included in the condition types that were selected on the selection screen or that are defined in the variant of the standard selection report.
Procedure
Úse F4 help to choose a valid condition type.
If this does not give you the required condition type, check in Customizing for condition types and the related access sequences.
In the condition maintenance also check Customizing for the selection report (pricing report), that you have selected in the navigation tree, using the standard condition table as a reference.
I hope this helps.

EXP-00105: parameter CONSISTENT is not supported for this user

Hi,
I have use Oracle 10g on unix platform
i have export is taken from following command
exp \'/ as sysdba\' file=t.dmp full=y buffer=10485760 log=0101.log CONSISTENT=y statistics=none
export is sucessfull but one warning
EXP-00105: parameter CONSISTENT is not supported for this user
if i have use without CONSISTENT parameter then export is successfull ,
why EXP-00105 error occured ?

As per Oracle Error Notes:
EXP-00105: parameter string is not supported for this user
Cause: The user attempted to specify either CONSISTENT or OBJECT_CONSISTENT when connected as sysdba.
Action: If a consistent export is needed, then connect as another user.
Looks likE the SYS user cannot do a transaction level consistent read (read-only transaction). You could have performed this by SYSTEM user or any DBA priviliged user to to take the complete export of your DB.
Anyway, for more information the error "EXP-00105", please take a look into the same question on another Oracle related forums.
