Will "Find my phone" work for wi-fi only iPad 2?

My wi-fi only iPad 2 is set up correctly - exactly as my two iPhones which work perfectly.  MobileMe is working fine across all devices.
I go through all steps to enable "Find my iPhone" on the iPad, but the iPad will not show as a device.  My two iPhones show up and locate fine.
Looking at another thread, I saw a comment that you need 3G for this feature.  On another thread someone said that you could find iPad with w-fi only but not as accurate as it can't use GPS.  Apple website KBs and troubleshooting don't say one way or another.
Can anyone verify whether or not I can use "Find my iPhone" to find my wi-fi only iPad 2?
- Frank

OK, well, I do understand the accuracy issue.  My problem is that I can't get it to show as a device to find.  I've tried all sorts of things including deleting and re enabling my Mobile Me account and then thought maybe it just didn't work on the wi-fi model.  Since you say it does, I'm stumped as to why I can't get it to show up.
I've spent so much time trying to get it recognized that I was almost hoping you'd tell me it wouldn't work with wi-fi only so I could let it go.  Now I have to get back at it to "solve" the mystery at least.
Thanks.........

  • How does "Find iPhone" work for a wifi-only iPad?

My wife's iPad is in out home on a satellite internet connection, in the country, connected to our router which assigns it an internal IP address. Yet when I log into Find iPhone from my iPhone, it shows up right inside the house most of the time, within 200' or so other times. Now the "circle of uncertainty" is larger then my wife's iPhone, it's still pretty accurate given the way it's connected. This baffles me.
    Thanks,

That doesn't answer HOW the database determined the router location to begin with./message-abuse!input.jspa?objectID=28092111&objectType=2
It does – the OP is using multiple iOS devices, the iPhones have GPS which is used to submit data to Apple via the diagnostics & usage. It may also come from other iOS users who have the same feature enabled.

I suspect the reason that your cellular iPad is getting accurate locations is because your modem is broadcasting a wifi access point. IP's are a poor indicator of location, despite what CSI tells you
That access point will be added to Apples database. Your iPhone has a setting that will help with this… 'Settings > General > Usage > Diagnostics & usage', if Automatically send is enabled then you are reporting anonymous data to Apple, including the location of the networks you use, the same network that is in range for the iPad. Apple is using iOS to crowd source the data.
Not true at all.  A cellular iPad also has a GPS receiver and it obtains location information from GPS.  GPS signals are separate from and completely unrelated to both the Internet and the cellular telephone network.  GPS signals come directly from the GPS satellites.  They provide signals that allow GPS receivers to calculate latitude and longitude information.  Software inside the device translates latitude/longitude into landmark information, such as street addresses.
I was referring to the GPS on the iPhone.
I know how GPS works thanks, I can see 4 satellites in this hemisphere, the others are out of view
I was also assuming this was a wifi iPad (no cellular, no GPS) - hence the reason for the original poster surprise. However I may have simply read 'wife's iPad' as 'wifi iPad'?

  • Lost iphone 5, turned off, wiped it icloud.. will find my phone still work?

Hi guys, lost my iphone 5 last night. will find my phone app still work if i had used the icloud option to wipe my phone?
also my phone has been turned off ive only had it for 4 days!
    thanks.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up. Of if FinfMyiPod was turned off
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing

  • Earth with USB & message that phone will work for emergency use only

I had problems with poor reception and people telling me that I kept cutting in and out, or that I sounded like I was talking underwater. Happened only after I upgraded my 16g 2g from 1.1.4 to 2.1. Husband has a 3g on 2.1 and has no problems, so area and external factors were not the cause. I took it in to an Apple Genius. He extracted the software, which he believed was somehow corrupted, and reinstalled it. I set it up as a new phone and have not had that problem since.
Only problem I am still having is that every once in a while when I turn my phone off, when I turn it back on I get the planet & USB cord with the chilling screen that my phone will work for emergency use only. A hard reset will return it to a normally functioning phone. Anyone else out there experiencing this? (This happened even after the Apple Genius extracted & reinstalled 2.1.) Anyone know what causes this?

    Hey Ann,
Are you using the iPhone with any accessories? Does this seem to happen after being used with the accessory?
When the iPhone was restored, was it restored from backup or setup as a new iPhone? You can try restoring the iPhone and setting it up as a new phone, if you haven't already. From there you can test it without any accessories.
If it was already restored and setup as a new phone and is not being used with any accessories, the iPhone may need hardware repair. Just call AppleCare or make another reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple store take a look at it.

I brought a iPhone (A1429) unlocked, sent it as a gift to my mate in Arizona, she is on the Verizon Network which in CDMA Will this phone work for her or have I just wasted $900 :/ I have done all the research and to me it looks like it should work.
Can anyone give me a difintive answer please.

Yes but I have brought the A1429 where as the information you provided states that it's the A1428.
The unlocked iPhone 5 is model A1428. For details on LTE support see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint. Learn more about the unlocked iPhone
And Apple websight also states that the A1429 is both CDMA and GSM here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939#iPhone5

  • HT1529 How do I find the phone number for my iPad 2 ? Says unknown :/

Where can I find the phone number for my ipad2???

You aren't running Mac OS X 10.3 if you have an iPad.  The oldest Mac OS X that will connect to an iPad from a Mac is Mac OS X 10.5.   The solution should be here.

How will find my Iphone work on an Iphone that has no service and it locked so if someone found it they would not be able to connect it to a wifi source.

Great link giving you peace of mind that at least they will not be able to use it with out your AppleID and Password.
According to the "Lost Mode" anytime the device is turned back on or able to receive a signal the phone will lock itself down and it's position will be updated to show its last known location.

  • Does "Find my Phone" work off the SIM card or is it tied to the IMEI?

My phone has been misplaced or stolen. Does find my iphone work off the SIM card. if the SIM card has been removed, will Find my Phone still work, provided the phone is on?

If the SIM card has been removed and the device has no active internet connection, then FMiP will not work, at least not immediately.  If the device gets connected to wi-fi or to cellular data, then the FMiP will work again.  That Activation Lock, however, doesn't require an internet connection.

  • Does find my phone work if you deleted the app?

Does find my phone work if you delete the app?

If you are asking if Find My iPad will work on your iPad if you delete the Find My iPhone app, the answer is yes.  If you have Find My iPad turned on in Settings>iCloud, your iPad can be tracked.  The Find My iPhone app is not to enable a device to be tracked, it's to allow you to track devices without having to go to icloud.com from your computer.

  • Will my serial number work for old versions?

I am a teacher and have a newer version of the software than my students do. I would like to demo in the same version they use, but it is no longer sold - will my serial number work for older versions of the same program?

No, the serial number is tied to the version/license you purchased.  Can't you acquire the software in the same way that your students have to?

  • Why will Siri make phone calls for you even though your phone is locked?

I just discovered that, from my locked screen, Siri will gladly make phone calls for me...  How can I change this?

Disable Siri from the locked screen. You probably have a passcode set up. Under settings>general>passcode you should be able to turn siri off on the locked screen

    Hey LamFY,
Thanks for the question. The short answer is Yes. Once you change your Apple ID primary email address, the previous email address will be freed up for use with another account:
