Will New ipod disk update old ipod?

I'm totally new at this crap and I'm fed up. My son's Nano has only worked well for about 2 weeks since he received it for Christmas. It seems to be more trouble than it's worth. Last week, it displayed the folder icon so we took it to an apple store. The "genius" hooked it up to his computer, said it was fixed, then told us to take it home and we would have to load "ipod updater." We did -twice. Had to go through the whole uninstall and reload nightmare (a major nightmare since we can only afford dial up). After 4 hours a day over 3 days, itunes still doesn't recognize the nano and we continue to get the "need to update ipod - click here to install" window.
My parents have bought me my own Nano for my birthday now. If I load the disk that came with it, will it fix my problem? I'm tempted to return it and get a plain 'ole MP3 player like all my friends did when they decided the ipods were too much trouble.

apple store genius had to reformat ipod for windows on the store's pc. was told I could not have done this at home - they must do because they have the appropriate software.

  • Will new iPod work with old library???

For 18 months, I've had my beloved iPod mini. Alas, the time has now come to trade it in for a newer model. I have only one concern left. The iPod is notorious for its restrictions on users. I've had iTunes synched to my mini for the last year and a half. If I go out and buy an iPod video, will it work with my music library? If it doesn't, how can I get it to work? Lastly, I'll probably upgrade again when they improve the iPod video. Will IT, in turn, work, after having used the older version before it!?

That's good to hear. What has me worried is that my little brother recently bought an iPod of his mate. He tried synching it with my library and it just didn't register. Now, obviously, my new iPod will never have been linked to any other machine but still. However, my brother was able to sync his iPod with a different and fresh iTunes computer in my house

  • Will new iPods work with my iMac G3 DV?

    Hi,
I want to buy one of the new iPods either the big baby or the Nano, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer as to whether it will work with my Mac.
I have an iMac G3 DV 400mhz, which I believe has USB 1.
Will it work with this as some are saying it might, although Apple say no.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hey!
Ken,If you're buying a new Pod,Apple system requirements are Mac OS 10.3.9 or later. So if your OS isn't that upto date then I would say no.Also USB 1.0 isn't desirable. It would work but be incredibly slow in Mounting/Updating and so-on.USB 2.0 is the connection used on 1st/2nd gen Nano and 5th Gen iPod Video.Hope this is of some use.
    Cheers,
    John

    *Mac system requirements*
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later
    iTunes 7.6 or later
I have itunes 7.6, but my mac only has usb1.1 and am onlu running osx 10.3.9 so does this mean it will not work?

so does this mean it will not work?
    Correct.

  • New hard disk on old imac - best way to transfer back-up from Time Machine??

    Hello,
The hard disk on my 2008 iMac died and I just got my computer back from the repair guy, who installed a new hard disk (and the latest Yosemite).
Which is the best (and most fail-proof) way for me to transfer all the stuff from the old hard disk -  which is on my Time Machine – to the new one?
Before getting repaired, my iMac was running on Mavericks. My Internet access has also changed (it broke down the same week… ). Don't know it that makes a difference.

Connect your backup drive to the computer. Because you had Mavericks installed before you can only restore your Home folder from the backup. Use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder to transfer your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences. Upon completion you will have two user accounts. The one you are now using and the migrated one. Log out of the account you are using then log into the migrated account. Open Users & Groups preferences, click on the lock icon and enter your admin password for the migrated account. Select the account you were using and click on the Delete [-] button. Select the option to delete immediately.

  • Sql query to Load only new records,or update old records

    Hi,
I need a query (not stored procedure) to insert only new records otherwise update existing records.
I tried by creating "Merge statement in SQl", but the sql query is wrong,it is not updating, always inserting records(replicating..1,2,4,8,16,32..).
    below is my sample query,
Here "FACT_mytbl -FCT" is my fact table.(which need to update if already records found ,otherwise insert as new records).
*Inside select ---the table   E_tbl1,E_tbl2  is the business logic table ,using this two table only ,"FACT_mytbl" was created  .So the "S" alias will be the source
table and "FCT" will be target table. based on this we have to insert or update records.
      ---Query starts-------------------------------------
     MERGE INTO [FACT_mytbl]  FCT
     USING  (
           SELECT
           FCT1.ID
          ,FCT1.PKcol1
          ,FCT1.FKcol1
          ,FCT1.col1
          ,FCT1.col2
         , FCT1.col3
       FROM  [FACT_mytbl] FCT1 WITH(NOLOCK)
       LEFT JOIN dbo.E_tbl1 CT WITH(NOLOCK)
    ON CT.PKcol1=FCT1.PKcol1
       LEFT JOIN dbo.E_tbl2 CT1 WITH(NOLOCK)
    ON CT1.PKcol1=FCT1.PKcol1
       ) S
       ON FCT.PKcol1 = S.PKcol1
     WHEN MATCHED AND (FCT.PKcol1 ! = S.PKcol1 ) THEN
     UPDATE SET
           FCT.col1
          ,FCT.col2
          ,FCT.col3
     WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN
     INSERT VALUES
           S.ID
          ,S.PKcol1
          ,S.FKcol1
          ,S.col1
          ,S.col2
         , S.col3
    --query ends----------------
    any suggestions,
    Thanks,
    R.B

    Hi Bhupesh_Rajasekaran,
According to your description, if you want to insert only new records which does not exist in destination and update existing records which does exist in destination. We usually accomplish these in two statement.
1.A join statement to update records.
2.A insert statement for new records.
Also we can use MERGE in SQL Server to insert, update at the same time. You specify a "Source" record set and a "Target" table, and the join between the two. You then specify the type of data modification that is to occur when the records between the two
data are matched or are not matched. For more information, there is an similar example about merge in SQL Server, you can review the following article.

  • Will new iPod range work with oldish eMac with USB 1.0?

I've eventually come to the conclusion that my iPod no longer works. Its a 3rd gen click, but when you turn it on it clicks and hums and Ive read that this means the hard-drive is fecked...Can only confirm this to be pretty the case?
So basically...after realising this I checked out the new range on apple website and noticed that all of them require USB 2.0. Does this mean that apple now wants me to upgrade my computer as well as my iPod?! I have an oldish eMac which only has firewire and USB 1.0 ports.
Would really appreciate it if someone could tell me whether the new range will work with my connections. Or whether I will have to get older iPod via Ebay for example.
    Many thanks

Thanks, does that meant that the new range doesn't use firewire at all? Crap if thats the case.

  • Approx how many songs will new ipod nano hold?

My daughter has an older generation ipod touch and she has exceeded its storage capacity.  Do I need to go to the ipod classic or will the new nano work?

The iPhone can indeed be used as an iPod - there's an app for that, preinstalled, imaginatively named "iPod".
You can put music on the iPhone in exactly the same way you can with the iPod Touch - the iPhone really IS an iPod Touch, with a phone app.

  • Updating Win8 to Win8 Media Center! Will New Recovery Disk include update?

Reading the manual says that making a set of recovery DVD's will return laptop to purchased state. I was hoping new set would included the media center files.
    Thank you for any advice.
    Tom Lawell
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Toshiba recovery discs always restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents, Tom.
It's not difficult to upgrade from there using the product key you have.
In order to back up your current disk, you'll need to use third-party software.
Always tell us which computer you have when you post here. There is a label on the bottom.

  • Using new iPhoto to update old .Mac gallery

I want to use iPhoto 6.0.3 to update this photo gallery, which was started in an older version of iPhoto: http://homepage.mac.com/lpennock/
I used to be able to select "share to web" or whatever that option was and update the gallery that way, but now it seems I can only create new "iWeb" galleries that show up here: http://web.mac.com/lpennock/iWeb/Site/random%20summer.html
If there is a way to move my entire .Mac gallery at the link above to a iWeb photo page, that's fine, I just want them all to be in the same place. Is this possible? Are all the old .Mac galleries now non-updatable?
    Thanks!
    -Lewis

    Lewis:
The only way I've been able to update my Homepage galleries was to do the following:
1 - export the files you want to add to a folder on the desktop resizing them to the size of the ones already in the gallery.
2 - mount your iDisk and locate the folder on the iDisk that contains the files for that gallery and copy your files into it.
3 - go the the .Mac page and log in and then goto the Homepage section.
4 - select the page you want to edit and click on the Edit button.
5 - the newly added files should show up at the bottom where you can edit the title and place them where you want.
As far as converting from Homepage to iWeb easily, there is no easy way. I'm in the process of doing it now and have to go about it this way.
1 - create the photo page in iWeb.
2 - go to the iDisk and download the source files for the Homepage you're converting.
3 - select all of the downloaded image files and drag into the iWeb photo page.
4 - with your Homepage open in Safari, copy the general text and photo text and past into the appropriate section of the iWeb page. Tedious work at best.

  • Will new license work for old compiler?

I'm on a project that requires using a customer's older Sun C++ compiler (ver. 5.0). Unfortunately they're not going to upgrade for months!
Will purchasing a license for the newer compiler still allow me to use the older compiler or is there something specific between license and product?
    Thanks.

  • TS1369 i have just registered my new ipod but it doesnt appear in the menu for me to update it with the new music but it has put music into my old ipod....do i need to create a new apple i.d for my new ipod and create a second itunes app??

    Hi,
O already have a really old ipod and just had a new one which i have registed today but when i have downloaded the itunes app onto my new laptop i cannot see the new ipod in the menu to update the music i have just purchsed.
Furthermore it seems to have put the new album into my old itunes so once i connect my old ipod i assume it will want to put it on there. I bought a new one as my old ipod is only 4gb and there is no space on it.
    Can someone help please?

Registering an iPod or any other iDevice for warranty and support has nothing to do with the device appearing in iTunes.  For what silly reason would you expect that to occur????
Honestly, it sounds like you have no clue how to use iTunes or sync media to the devices.  Might be a good idea to read the User's Guide for the iPod to understand how to use it.

  • I am trying to update an old version of itunes, my computer says it took place, but when I hook up my daughters new ipod it says the new version is needed.  What do I need to do?

I am trying to update an old version of itunes, my computer says it took place, but when I try to sync my daughters new ipod it says a newer version if itunes is required?

In iTunes, look at Help/About iTunes and as the screen rolls up, check for the version number. Ignore the bit that says iTunes 10 in massive bold lettering, wait for the smaller text to appear as the it rolls up. The latest version (on 15th April 2012) is iTunes 10.6.1.7 and the text you should see will simply state iTunes 10.6.1.7. Underneath that will be "gumpf" about copyright etc.
If your iTunes does not say this, then something must have gone wrong with the update you did. How did you do it? The usual way is to simply select (in your iTunes), Help/Check for Updates. In my case, the return message I see states This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version. The alternative message will state something like "there is a later version of iTunes available, do you wish to download it" or similar. Selecting "Yes" would begin the download and if you leave it to run itself, the update should take effect, providing you don't stop it or (I guess) keep iTunes so busy it cannot run the update. It may need to close and re-open before the change takes effect.
At a guess, the reason your daughter's iPod is saying it requires a newer version of itunes is either because you've just bought it, and you have a fairly old version of iTunes - AH!, that may be the problem. >>
    >> If the version of iTunes you had installed was very old, then the update may have updated to something other than the latest version. So even if the update has taken place, if it only updated from, for example, iTunes 8 to iTunes 9, then it may need a further update to get to version 10 or to 10.6.1. So for you, now, check after update for the version your iTunes thinks it is until it states iTunes 10.6.1.7.
Alternatively, if your daughter's iPod has been Synced with another computer (with a later version of iTunes than yours, even by one increment), then that would cause then issue you currently have, because her iPod will now only want to work the the latest version it has previously done business with, not your old version.
Note; the current version of iTunes as I've stated it, may change any day. Apple do not announce when updates will be released. Uisng Help/Check for Updates and seeing the return message This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version is the only sure way of telling that you are up to date.
Additional note; gumpf = slang for "random junk".
Let us know how you get on.
