Window size and TOC

Hi
Working in RH HTML,
Generating webhelp and webhelp pro manuals.
I want to restrict the size of my help window
1. I am able to define a custom default window for
webhelp/pro to use, and also able to default my custom window for
output in Webhelp/pro layout properties. But the help file output
is in my default browser size.
2. To over come the above I also wrote few commands in the
template(this is a custom template which has got company header and
footer created in RH HTML).
Command 1. <body
onload=self.resizeTo(600,500);self.moveTo(300,200) > or <body
onLoad = resizeTo(600,500) - None of this worked
Command 2.
<script>window.resizeTo(600,700);window.resizable=0</script>
- This didnt work also
NOTE: I used both Command 1 and 2 turn by turn.
3. Any changes to the template, should effect all topics
using it as a template?If I write a code in the template it should
effect all topics?
4. TOC - Is it possible to restrict the a user not to change
the size of the TOC pane?
Thx for your help
Kewal

Hi,
Thx for your reply
I used Rick's code to change the size of my window, but I had
to call in a different way I was not able to define the size in the
body, I dont know why this didnt just work. So I did the below.
I used the code for the below from Rick's site but I declared
the function in the HEAD.
<script language=JavaScript1.2>
function Resize ()
top.window.moveTo(0,0);
if (document.all) {
top.window.resizeTo(1000,700);
else if (document.layers||document.getElementById) {
if
(top.window.outerHeight<screen.availHeight||top.window.outerWidth<screen.availWidth){
top.window.outerHeight = 700;
top.window.outerWidth = 600;
</script>
after declaring the above function I called it in the
<body onLoad=Resize() >
and this worked. Finally my help opened in a defined size.
Code from -

Thank you for your help and advice much appreciated
Thx to rick for his code

  • Finder Window Sizes and View Options

    In an earlier message under Mac OS X Panther it was recommended that I post a new message in the AppleScript forum.
    I'm looking for a way to automate the repetitive task of resizing Finder windows and resetting view options. For example resetting a hundred folders to the same window size and screen position with the same view options. This requires manually adjusting each window one by one.
    A solution could be an AppleScript that would automate this task.
    The following is the earlier message:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1283081#1283081
    I mistakenly deleted all the preference files for the Finder window options on my 17 inch PowerBook (.DS_Store Files).
    This has returned all Finder windows to default settings for window sizes and view options.
    I use custom widow sizes for all my folders that nicely fit the 17 inch screen on my PowerBook, leaving enough desktop space on the right for the hard drive icons and the Dock that I always keep vertical on the right.
    I have a 12 inch PowerBook as well. And it has it's own custom window size that fits it's much smaller screen. It has always been a complaint of mine to have to manually reset windows whenever I needed to transfer folders with Bluetooth file exchange.
    Resetting Finder window sizes and view option has always been a time consuming problem. Now to have to do it over again for hundreds of windows is a huge task that is way to manual.
    The Finder is customizable. There must be a way to set the options for one window and be able to use those adjustments for other windows without having to re adjust each setting manually.
    There was an application called Finder Window Manager. Maybe someone knows of another application that can do this of task or another way around this issue.

    Photoscene,
    I think if you repost this to the AppleScript link, someone there will have a solution for you (in the form of an applescript that you can run)...

    Give it a shot (I'm not clever enough to give you a good script yet, but someone there will be!)

  • InDesign forgets window size and position when opening

    PC with Windows 7, CS 2014.
    I set up Illustrator so that it does not open full screen (I have a 27" monitor) so that I can have panels permanently open around the edges. Close Illustrator and re-open it and it remembers the last set window position.
    InDesign remembers the position of the open panels but opens the main window full screen every time, and it's really annoying having to resize and reposition the main window every time I load InDesign.
    I upgraded from an earlier version of Adobe CS and that older version of InDesign remembered the window size and position. Why did this change?
    Can this be fixed please?

    From the InDesign top menu have you tried going to Window/Application Frame to put the application in it's own resizable frame? That will hold the window to the same size each time you open an InDesign file.

  • Finder windows size and position etc.  on clients' machines

    How to configure server's finder windows size and position etc. are on clients' machines so that they persist? Thank you!
    PS: If this has already been discussed, please refer to the thread. Sorry for double post in that case.

    Try connecting to the Share as the Server Admin, make your window the size and position you want and logout again.

  • How can I customize window size and have it stay that way? It automatically maximizes the moment I click anywhere on the page.

    I have added a large widescreen monitor and now have a two-screen set up. This taxed my old video card, so we replaced that, too. Then I updated Firefox. Now my window automatically maximizes. "Restore" is the same size as "Maximize", and I can resize it if I carefully drag and drop all four corners. But if I click on the top bar to relocate the resized window, it re-maximizes. I can't find any options or settings that allow me to fix the window size, lock a customized window size, etc. IE8 is not doing this, so I don't think it's the monitor or desktop settings.

    Window sizes and positions are stored in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder].<br />
    <br />
    Delete localstore.rdf or rename the file to localstore.rdf.sav in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to test if the file is corrupted.<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf<br />
    (caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)<br />
    <br />
    Note:<br />
    Deleting the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.<br />
    You can rename "localstore.rdf" to "localstore.rdf.sav" to test if that solves it.<br />
    Then you can restore the customization by copying "localstore.rdf.sav" to "localstore.rdf" if it didn't work.

  • Software to restore apps window size and position after change in screen resolution

    I use a 27' iMac'10 with SL 10.6.8, running it at 2560x1440 screen resolution.
    Whenever I have to attend meetings via GoToMeeting or Webex and need to present, the resolution is too high, since most participants are on 15' laptops or even iPad's these days.  Therefore, I reset the screen resolution to 1600x900 for the time of the presentation.
    After the meeting is over, I reset the resolution back to 2560x1440.
    Problem: After the reset, all my apps are scaled and out of place, so I need to manually reset them to their original sizes and positions.  I use Divvy to make this a bit less painful, but still it's a manual chore.
    Is there any software out there that let's me restore my windows to the exact settings they were the last time before I changed screen resolution?

    I agree, the ability to remember window sizes and positions when switching between laptop and using the Thunderbolt display would be very useful.  It's like your Mac remembering the volume level depending on whether you have headphones plugged in or not.

  • How do I stop Firefox from claiming to have sessionrestore errors or opening the wrong session items and/or remember the wrong window size and/or position.

    Since automatically updating to version 25 Firefox is randomly opening recent tabs and windows from the browsing history, and/or randomly positioning the browser window from history.
    Currently using Firefox 25.0.1 on Windows Vista and Windows 7. Problems started immediately after automatic updates to 25.0.0. Problems are most noticeable on the Vista box because it has so much screen geography (the Windows 7 box is a laptop).
    Problems include:
    Firefox may open the correct tabs into a properly sized and positioned window, without problem. (Not a problem, included for completeness since it does, occasionally, work without error).
    Firefox open a single empty tab (about:blank, my Home page). (Listed as a problem because Firefox simply forgot the tab which was open.)
    Firefox may claim it cannot open the correct tabs and pop up about:sessionrestore. Proceeding will open all tabs (usually only one or two for me). This gives the impression Firefox did not actually have a problem. But, then, often, the tab Firefox is having problems restoring is about:blank so I should hope there was no problem!
    Firefox may open randomly selected recent browsing items, without other problems. This gives the impression that Firefox does not properly record recent history for about:sessionrestore. Checking History appears correct; Firefox simply reached back hours, or days, or even weeks, and restored a random session from long ago.
    Any of the above may occur, but the window position and/or size will be randomly selected from another recent history item. This is most noticeable when the position is on the wrong monitor and can be annoying since Firefox simply "disappears" if (as it often is for me) that other monitor is disconnected or powered off.

    If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.<br />
    Also make sure that your anti-virus software doesn't mess with files in the Firefox profile folder.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
    Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • How can I switch off the automatic window size and set the size of the window manually

    I need to open the web-page in a window of a certain size. The javascript function window.resizeTo (w, h) does not work. If I open the window using the window.open ("", "", "width: w, height: h, ..."), there is another problem.
    The hyperlinks that have to be opened in a new tab in the same window or at least in the window of the same size, will open in another tab of the first window from which I called window.open().
    I do not know what it is, bug or as intended, but the normal full-featured window with the right size I cannot get.

    You need an extension if you want to set the window dimensions to a specific value or you need to open a pop-up window with window.open and specify the width and height.<br />
    Otherwise a new window opens with some default dimensions as saved in localstore.rdf and you can't easily adjust the dimensions via JavaScript in that case.

  • Holding Spotlight window size and others

    Hope this is easy no brainer that I can't remember- When I open spotlight into it's finder window (I am using cover flow mode) I have to always resize it to a larger view. How can I get it to remember the last open window size? I see this happen in some others windows as well.

    Hello, I'm new to OS X, recently coming from Windows, and I was hoping someone could help me with something. I'm constantly bringing my Mac Mini from work and home, so the resolution is constantly changing
    I assume you're changing resolution because of very different monitors in the two places?
    That's the cause of the problem, obviously. 99.9% of users want things to remain the way they left them.
    . . . Never save windows position and size, always keeping them at OS X default. Is there a way to turn off the save windows position and size feature, or do I need to find and delete files holding these values.
    Unfortunately, no. This is done by each application, and if you delete the files, they'll come back each time you use the app again (and for most apps, you'll lose all their "preferences" as well.)
    Many apps will resize their windows to fit on (but not necessarily fill) the screen, if you click the green button in their menubars. In most cases that's probably not what you want, but may be the best you can do.
    The only other option I can think of is to find some way to use the same resolution for both monitors.

  • Finder window size and location not remembered

    I have OS X 10.10 installed.
    When I press Cmd/shift/H to open a finder window showing my home folder I get the default location and size for the window.  I resize and relocated the window and close it.  When I press that key combination again, the window is now showing the new size and location I previous set.  Unfortunately, when I restart the computer, this modification is lost and when I press that key combination the window opens with the default size and location.
    I have used the key combination of Cmd/Shift/A to open a finder window showing Applications and Cmd/Shift/U to open a finder window showing the Utilities folder.  I have been successful in resizing and relocating these windows, and having the system remember my modifications after a restart.  It appears to only be the Cmd/Shift/H combination that is faulty.
    Any ideas how to fix this problem?

    Paddster7,
    You could try trashing the hidden file inside the folder that stores some of its positioning and size settings.
    To show your hidden files.
    Launch ( Terminal ) -> Paste in the following ( defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder ) -> Press Return.
    Open the ( Offending Folder ) -> Delete ( .DS_Store ) -> Restart -> Move folder how you want to to stay -> Restart -> Did it stay?
    To reverse your hidden files back to hidden.
    Launch ( Terminal ) -> Paste in the following ( defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean false ; killall Finder ) -> Press Return.

  • What Preferences Control Window Size and Location?

    I have a number of windows that over time have taken on weird sizes and locations. For example, a print window habitually shows up with the print button underneath the dock, forcing me to move the window to click on the options.
    Is there a preference I can trash--or anything else I can do--to return the sizes and locations of windows to something resembling normal?

    That's done by each individual application.
    Many will remember where the window last was, and re-open it in the same place & size.
    Find the preference file for the app in question (probably in <your home folder>/Library/Preferences folder), quit the app, rename the file (append "old") to the end, and start the app again.
    The window should open in a default location; move/and or resize it, close the app and open it again. If that fixes the problem, trash the "old" file and re-enter any other preferences.
    If it doesn't fix it, you've probably got the wrong file. Close the app. If there's a new version of the file you renamed, delete it. Remove the "old" from the previous one.

  • Restoring the window size and position of Disk Utility

    I took my mac-mini to a memory upgrade this afternoon, and the guy, who was testing the new configuration of my mini, started, and changed the size of the disk utility window. I hate so much if someone tweaks my personal stuff/setting in their image so much, that I could explode! How can I restore it to the default size and position? I cannot find anything about this on the net, and this is the only setting, I could not restore.

    I'm sorry, ignore that Applescript Snippet, use this one instead (make sure to open disk utility before you run it!):
    tell application "System Events"
              tell process "Disk Utility"
                        set theSize to size of window 1
                        set theNiceSize to (item 1 of theSize) & "x" & (item 2 of theSize) as string
      display dialog theNiceSize
              end tell

  • Getting Window Size And Position

    Hey, well I wanted to know if it was possible in a java application to get the size and location of another window in focus. For instance, I run my app, then I open up an internet window, is there anyway to get the size of that internet window, and the XY coordinates on the screen for it? And if so, is there anyway to capture data such as colors and such if the window is in focus?
    Is it possible to do by process name? Like this...
    if(process is running)
         if(window is minimized)
            System.out.println("WINDOW MINIMIZED");
         else
               System.out.println("The coordinates of the window are...");
               System.out.println("The size of the window is...");
               System.out.println("The resolution of the window is...");
    }Thanks

  • Some programs won't remember window size and position

    I have a couple programs, notably ComicNerd, that won't ever seems to remember window size or position from quit to restart. I can't seems to find any evidence other people are having the same problem with the program, so I assume it's something wrong with my computer. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Is there some permissions problem or something?

    It's likely a corrupted Preference file
    Look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for  .plist file with ComicNerd in it and just move it to your desktop and restart the program/computer.
    The preference file should rebuild itself, so look for it and if it's in the Preference folder then delete the one on the  desktop.
    You also might want to run ALL the cleaning and maintenance aspects of the free OnyX and reboot.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
    the Verify > preference (show only corrupted) should also help locate other corrupted .plist (Preference) files for similar action like you did above.

  • Controlling window size and positioning in RH8 WebHelp

    Evening all,
    I've seen a post before about controlling the size and/or positioning or RH WebHelp windows, but I haven't been able to find it again.
    I'm generating WebHelp in RH8 and at this point am using the default skin and whatever default tri-pane and CSH windows RH chooses to use.
    Question is: how do I control the size and position of these windows? Or can I?
    I suspect they're set in a .js, but don't know which one. I know I can create new windows, and if I recall correctly, I can make one for CSH and one for the classic tri-pane help display. Is this how folks typically control the windows used to display RH content? Or do they muck about in the original .js files?
    Or, and this is the more likely, am I just being too anal-retentive about this and I should just let RH do its default thing and not worry about it?
    Thanks - I'm just a bit confused here,
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick
    If you aren't working with a programmer to connect your WebHelp to an application, you really don't have much control over the placement and attributes that are used.
    Note that when you create a project in RoboHelp HTML, you have an ability to create a WebHelp window with the desired attributes. But really, all that does is configure the way a window will open if you are using something called the "WebHelp API" to open topics. As you stated earlier, JavaScript is actually used by the API to open the window.
    Cheers... rick
