Windows 4.4.1 versus 4.2

I currently have ACR 4.2 with Photoshop Elements 6.0.
If I update to ACR 4.4.1 will this give any additional features other than working with newer cameras

  • Windows 7 Install - BIOS versus UEFI - what to do next

Scenario, laptop came with Win8 pre-loaded on HDD but no other media disks; guy wants Win7. Attempted to start the laptop with 7 disk in the DVD-ROM drive, but it would only go to HDD, and didn't offer the usual choices of F-8 or F-3 etc. during boot black
screen. So I simply changed the hard drive out to a new blank one. Found articles about UEFI versus BIOS. Got into Set-Up screen with F2, disabled Secure, and later changed boot order to DVD then C. Got Win7 installed and looking normal. Then started
manually loading the Drivers via DVD recorded on different PC, that can be downloaded from the Toshiba site. Some drivers seem to be not recognized, but most of all the biggest problem seems to be = = Windows is not discovering devices and does not Find
New Hardware, so many items such as the CAT5 internet jack and the USB jacks are not working. Maybe also call this problem UPnP is not working.
Do I now need to switch back to UEFI now that it is up and running? Or would that fail due to the MBR or other boot sector differences I have been reading about in TechNet. The Win7 install recognized the size of the HDD as around 640GB and partitioned
    100MB for it's own uses.
It has done many many megabytes of Windows Updates via wireless, so it should have all the patches & security updates available, but still cannot discover a USB flash drive or mouse.
    Thank you,

  • Windows Communication Foundation .svc versus .asmx

.NET 3.5 and above allow programmer to create Windows Communication Foundation that has the .svc file. I can use this WCF like a Web services on .Net C# and VB.NET without issues. I can also access what has been created on the browser (http://server1/DemoWebServices/Demo.svc?wsdl).
However, when I go to LabView 8.6.1, it can only allowed import of asmx?wsdl Web services.
Does that mean labview does not play with .svc?wsdl ?
If not supported, would other Labview version allowed that support.

Unfortunately, at this point it appears only asmx?wsdl Web Services are supported.  If you can convert between formats, that may be your best solution.

  • Windows Update GPO - Important versus Recommended/Optional - Getting Microsoft Optional

    I'm looking at the
Computer > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
elements. There's an item for "Turn on Recommended Updates via Automatic Updates".
What I'm hoping to do is to enable the Recommended / Optional updates for Microsoft updates ONLY.
I am NOT referring to the "other Microsoft products" updates.
I do NOT want to get the third party updates and drivers (i.e., nVidia drivers) via Windows Updates that show up as recommended/optional updates.
I do want to get the Microsoft roll-up's and other Microsoft recommended Windows patches, security fixes, etc.
Is there a way to get the Microsoft recommended/optional items but not the third party items?
I'm running Server 2012 native with Windows 8.1 clients.
It seems odd that there is no GPO element to control this.

    Hi,
Windows Updates are classified as Important, Recommended, Optional, and Featured. Here's what they mean:
•Important updates offer significant benefits, such as improved security, privacy, and reliability.
•Recommended updates address non-critical problems or help enhance your computing experience.
•Optional updates can include updates, drivers, or new software from Microsoft to enhance your computing experience. You can only install these manually.
    >>I do want to get the Microsoft roll-up's and other Microsoft recommended Windows patches, security fixes, etc.
You can set Windows to automatically install important and recommended updates, or to install important updates only. The following policy setting is used to configure clients
    to automatically install important updates:
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update\Configure Automatic Updates
If you also want to automatically install recommended updates, you should enable the setting
Turn on Recommended Updates via Automatic Updates as you mentioned.

I recently bought the  HP Pavilion 15-p042nb Notebook PC and I think something is wrong because it is working slower then my 4 year old pc.

  • JNI Com CoCreateInstance VM crash

I'm trying to use the ActiveHome SDK for use in a project. The SDK is written in vb and c++. I have set up a a main class inside of my JNI wrapper to test the logic. I also set up a main class in the Java class, the test class in c++ works well when I call:
hresult = CoCreateInstance( __uuidof(ActiveHomeScriptLib::ActiveHome), NULL, CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER, __uuidof(ActiveHomeScriptLib::IActiveHome), (LPVOID *) &pActiveHome );however this is where java is dieing. I have tried to instead call CoCreate this way:
    hresult = CLSIDFromProgID(OLESTR("ActiveHomeScriptLib.ActiveHome"), &clsid);
hresult = CoCreateInstance(clsid,NULL,CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER,__uuidof(ActiveHomeScriptLib::IActiveHome),(LPVOID *) &pActiveHome); This doesnt crash the JVM but it cannot find the OLESTR in the dll using this method.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    karlmarxxx wrote:
Perhaps you should have read my question, I have already created a class in c++ testing this out and it works, When I run the same code in java the JVM crashes.Sorry the scrolling to see everything in single line obscured it.
Presumably when you say crash you mean a windows system error dialog versus just an exit.
When you created the C++ did you use default settings in VC from the console and for creating the jni dll?
Presumably you are doing nothing else in terms of JNI except executing that line via a JNI method?

  • Installation-hokiebill

I bought ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 10. I am installing on (HP pc) windows Vista 64 bit. There are 3 installation discs in the package. I installed disc 1 of 3. No problem.Do i also install 2 and 3?

Hokiebill the document I linked to give instructions for the Photoshop Elements/Premiere Elements bundle as well as Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements only.  Which product do you have?  I would recommend following the instructions for that product.
In answer to your question regarding Windows Vista 64-bit versus Windows 7 64-bit they both would benefit from the 64-bit version installed.

  • 32 bit / 64 bit ODBC dilemma

I have been trying to figure out why my JAVA application works fine on some machines but not on others when the program tries to connect to an ACCESS database. I have read up on the different drivers that appear if you bring up the 32 bit list using c:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe versus the 64 bit list from the control panel.
On a machine that has the problem, I get this error message when trying to connect:
Data source name not found and no default driver specified
    The code is using this connection string: jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=C:\DataBases\ Traing3.mdb;
If I go to the 32 bit drivers and create a DSN and then use this connection string: jdbc:odbc:MyDSNdb, I get the following error:
The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and the Application
What I have found is the machines that do not work have a 64 bit JRE installed and the ones that work have a 32 bit JRE. I have taken an non-working machine, uninstalled the 64 bit JRE and replaced it with the 32 bit JRE and the program runs fine using both connection strings listed above.
My questions is: What do I need to do in order to make the application run which has a 64 bit JRE? I would also like to add, that these machines typically are running 32 bit MS Office bundles.

A 64-bit JRE cannot use 32-bit ODBC drivers, as a 32-bit JRE cannot use 64-bit ODBC drivers.
64-bit Windows includes only a 32-bit MS Access ODBC driver. If you start ODBC Administrator from the Control Panel, you will open the 64-bit ODBC Administrator. If you go to the section "Drivers", you will see that there is no MS Access driver. If you start the ODBC Administrator from %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64\Odbccad32.exe, you will open the 32-bit ODBC Administrator and if you go to its "Drivers" section, you will see an MS Access driver (which is a 32-bit one).
Have a look at this article, it is very informative (though it is very old), and put attention on the last paragraph in the "Symptom 2" section:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942976
If you want to use a 64-bit JRE and an ODBC driver, you must install a 64-bit MS Access ODBC driver. However, many sources claim that there is no such driver, but only a 32-bit driver exists.
Why do not you use a pure JDBC driver instead of a JDBC-ODBC bridge?

  • MacBook (early 2010) anyone tried StarCraft 2?

I bought my MacBook in March 2010 right before they got updated. I was curious if anyone with similar model MacBook has tried running StarCraft 2? I am not expecting to have my settings much above LOW, but just curious if it is able to play decently? I have checked on the StarCraft website and could only find setting recommendations for (Mid-2010) MacBooks, which I believe are the current MacBooks with updated video cards.
    Thanks
    Christopher

    Hi iCrizzo,
The MacBook with NVIDIA 9400M can absolutely handle Starcraft II. I think you'll find that you can even get away with "medium" settings, especially if you put 4GB of RAM in the machine.
If you check out the Starcraft II forums (Mac support) you'll find many users reporting significantly better performance running Boot Camp (Windows 7 32/64) versus the performance in OS X.
But you'll be able to run the game, absolutely.

  • UCCX * Recording Script

Team - I used to have a recording script that would collect prompt number like 345 and record a wavefile 345.wav.
It workd in UCCX7 not in UCCX 8. Is there any path information I need to set correctly for this to work? Will defining a document variable wavfile
doing a Recording step to save to wavfile
and write wavfile document to say
promptnumber + ".wav" work where promptnumber is the collected digits 345? It seems to fail on UCCX8. Thanks

Unlike the Windows version where you can see the prompts in wfavvid, in
version 8, they are uploaded to the Repository where they are stored.
Windows release (7.01) versus Linux (Version 8)
They then can be seen in the appadmin under the navigation: Cisco Unified
    CCX Administration.
    Then Applications\Prompt Management.
    NOTE:
Manage prompts. Many applications make use of pre-recorded prompts, stored
as .wav files, which are played back to callers to provide information and
elicit caller response. You must upload these .wav files to the repository
and make them available to the Unified CCX system.
In the Version 8 UCCX, that location for the user prompts is not a path you
will be able to access due to root passwords are needed.
    But, the path is Opt\Cisco\UCCX\Prompts\user
Attached are the default scripts for UCCX 8 which can be found on the pc
    that has the Editor downloaded.
    C:\Program Files\wfavvid_802\Scripts\system\default
Also, make sure you do not have Create file document step ..else you could be running into this bug :

  • Hyper-V with Multiple Windows 7 Workstations versus RDS

I have a Windows 2008 r2 standard server and need to setup RDS that runs office 2013 and a 3rd party EMR software for around 10 users. I checked and the only version of office 2013 that works on a server is Pro plus which is supposedly around $500 per
    user.
So I started wondering if Hyper-V would be a better solution. Essentially I would add a new virtual Windows 7 workstation for each remote user they need and log in to each to configure a traditional W7 remote desktop setup. All of which would be going across
a 3 site vpn tunnel. So this would give the user a W7 environment versus a server OS but I have a few questions:
Would the Hyper-V setup in this way be more resource intensive on the server and the lan/wan?
It seems that their would be a significant amount of additional configuration time to get the Hyper-V working because I would have to login to each one and join it to the domain, create AD users, install the EMR software, configure remote desktop, open firewall
    ports, set static ip's, etc...
Cost wise, it seems like for the Hyper-V I would simply need a windows license and a standard office 2013 home and business license for each virtual Windows 7.
Please give me thoughts and suggestions regarding this setup. Any help is appreciated.

"Would the Hyper-V setup in this way be more resource intensive on the server"
Remember that each virtual machine includes a full installation of the operating system.  Therefore, you have to buy a license to cover each VM, you are loading the operating system and the application into the memory of the virtualization host, and
you are storing the full installation for each VM.  (There are ways to ameliorate this, but to easily do that also requires additional software and services).  That and the additional management overhead you describe, though there should be no reason
to require static IP addresses.  And don't forget that you are patching a lot more software, too.
This discussion has been going on ever since the advent of operating system virtualization.  It has been proven over and over again that fewer resources are required for a RDS deployment of applications, but different organizations have different business
needs so a virtual desktop versus a virtual application makes sense.  There is no simple answer.

  • Feedback Wanted on Windows 7 versus Elements 9 Organizer

I am a Windows 7 user.  Does anybody have feedback on the merits of using Windows 7 versus Elements 9 Organizer for managing a sane filing system so there aren't duplicates OR deleted photos?   So far, I would agree with the previous thread that mentioned the ease of use with CS5's Bridge system compared to Organizer.  Do you use the People/Place/Events templates set up in Organizer or forget about it?

Firstly, the major difference between Bridge and Organizer is that Bridge is a file browser, like Windows Explorer.  Organizer is a file cataloguer, meaning that it stores its own information (tags, albums, etc.) in its own database.
I occassionaly use Bridge as sort of an "enhanced" Windows Explorer when I want to see thumbnails of PSD files and other file formats that don't display as thumbnails in Explorer.  Bridge pretty much follows the folder structure that you've established in Windows, so if you're happy with your file system organization you'll be happy with Bridge.
For my money, Organizer is much more powerful because the organization and display of its database information is independent of the file system structure.  For example, photos stored in wildly separated file folders can be viewed next to each other in Organizer if those photos have a tag in common.  Tagging all your photos in Organizer and optionally also putting them in "albums" is a lot of work up front, but once done, really releases the power of Organizer.
That's somewhat of a subtle point, and often overlooked by users of all different sorts of database programs, such as recipe managers.  The bottom line is that if you're using a database program, it's completely irrelevant where your data (photos or recipes) are stored or how their filing system storage is structured.  The critical thing is to tag 'em correctly in a way that makes sense to you.  Tags are very cheap in terms of storage space, so the more tags the better -- then you can slice and dice your data in so many versatile ways.
Another impressive feature of the Organizer database comes into play if you've catalogued photos on removable media, such as CDROMS or external hard drives.  You can still work with the small images in Organizer even when your external media isn't attached.

  • [solved] Video conversion problem: Mencoder on Arch versus Windows XP

I have a cheap portable video player which (according to a supplied Windows software configuration file) requires any video to be converted (say from a YouTube .flv) using a command line like:
    mencoder myfile.flv -ofps 15 -vf-add scale=160:128 -vf-add expand=160:128:-1:-1:1 -srate 44100 -ovc xvid -stereo 0 -xvidencopts bitrate=300:max_bframes=0:quant_type=h263:me_quality=0 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=128 -o myfile.avi
If I do the conversion on Linux - my fully-upgraded Arch - the resulting .avi file has the audio and video out of sync when played with Mplayer (on Linux and Windows), and no audio at all when played with Vlc (on Linux and Windows). But if I do (supposedly) exactly the same conversion using Mencoder on Windows, the resulting .avi file plays perfectly on everything on both Linux and Windows (and also the portable video player).
Here's the version information for the Mencoders being used:
    Windows: MEncoder Sherpya-MinGW-20060312-4.1.0 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
    Arch: MEncoder SVN-r32492-4.5.1 (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer Team
I'd be grateful for any ideas as to how to make my Mencoder conversion work as well on Linux as it does on Windows XP! (Or is there something wrong with the way I'm playing the file with Mplayer and Vlc on Arch?!)
Last edited by ninian (2010-11-16 23:28:02)

Aha! I think I've cracked it, but using ffmpeg instead, with options prompted by this blog post:
    ffmpeg -i infile.flv -r 15 -vcodec mpeg4 -vtag XVID -s 160x128 -aspect 4:3 -qmin 3 -qmax 5 -ar 44100 -ab 128k -ac 2 -acodec mp2 -g 1 outfile.avi
This seems to work everywhere, and the writer specially notes that:
The most important option is the -g 1 to force every frame to be a keyframe
which may well be where my conversions were going wrong. So I'll mark this as 'solved' even though mencoder is still a mystery, but I have learned to keep Vlc up my sleeve, so thanks for that tip again.

    Hello pc1971,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried some of the basics such as plugging it into different USB ports on your computer or try a different USB Connector Cable?
Maybe try resetting the device with it connected to your system. To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, and then press and hold the Menu and Select (Center) buttons together for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears.
Otherwise, I would continue working through the recommend troubleshooting steps provided in this Apple support document.

  • OS X 10.5.6 versus Windows Server 2000 SFM

We have recently deployed a number of Macintosh (Mac Pros and iMacs) running OS X 10.5.6. When copying a directory to a Windows Server 2000 running Services for Macintosh, the directory permission are not duplicated and, more problematically, cannot be modified on the server from the Mac.

Note: we are replacing the Windows server with an XServe, but I'm looking for a quick fix before that migration.
