Windows 7 RC Build 7100: No Audio on MacBook Pro 1,1 (Core Duo)

On Thursday, I installed the brand new Windows 7 RC Build 7100 on my MacBook Pro 1,1 (Core Duo). This version of Windows seems to be zippy and far more polished than Vista: boot time is much, much faster. So my main problem is this: I can't get sound to work at all. In the Device Manager, the audio device is banged out and shows as a "High Definition Audio Device" rather than AC'97 or whatever it's supposed to be. If I check the properties, under status it says, "The device cannot start. (Code 10)". I've tried to installing the drivers from RealTek about a zillion times, the Boot Camp drivers from the Leopard install disc and I've run all the little setup programs as Administrator and in Vista compatibility mode, but no luck. Has anyone else had any luck in getting the Windows 7 (7100) to run on an early model MacBook Pro with working audio? Thanks!

Can't speak for MacBook, but for the desktop Mac Pro, the audio issue with Windows 7 install on boot camp is a known issue. You probably need to install the Realtek driver from your leopard install disk. It worked for me. Fixed the audio in about 5 minutes.
Try this:
while running windows 7
Insert 10.5.4 or later Leopard disk
Go to Boot camp folder
Locate the Realtek driver .exe file
Run it, it's an installer file
Restart.
Fixed my problem, similar to yours.

I would go so far as to say there is no reason or need for there to even be 32-bit version.
64-bit has better memory and graphic handling with whatever you have.

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

Can anyone recommend a portable USB 3.0 drive with hardware encryption, compatible with OSX Mountain Lion and Windows 7.  I need it for my MacBook Pro 13”, 2012, running Mountain Lion & Windows 7 Ultimate - BootCamp.  I’ve heard that the Buffalo MiniStation Encryption does not work with OSX, is that true..?  I'd like it to work with both operating systems, using the built in hardware encryption.  Thanks

lower your font size unless you have difficulty
    MS Security Essentials is excellent
Then again maybe time to investigate Windows 8 RP (which uses Defender)

Can I bring files from a NTFS formatted external hard drive (from Windows XP 32 bit desktop) to my new macbook pro retina?

What are these files you are trying to copy over?
If they are program specific and there is no program on a Mac to read them then you'll have to find either a Mac version of that program or one that does the same thing and can read those files.
The file extension should not change just because you connect a NTFS formatted drive to a Mac computer. A Word Document is still a .doc/.docx ad the same for all other office type programs. Music files with an extension of .MP3, or whatever, should read the same on both system. Same goes for all other files like images with a .JPG extension.
    Yes I would network them.
I would not use Migration Assistant. There is nothing on your Windows PC that can be used on the Mac other than your personal data files. No programs or settings can be carried over from Windows to OS X.

Also, when I view the files from the external hard drive, they show up as .nbz and are not recognized by any program on the Mac. Should I just abandon the hard drive option and start sharing files through the LAN approach?

  • PSP [Playstation portable] not recognized by Windows 7 RC Build 7100

    Hello all,
I have a PSP [Series 1003]. Firmware : 6.10 [latest] . My PC's OS : Windows 7 64Bit RC Build 7100. Ever since i installed Win7 in my PC [new PC] , it was not able to recognize my PSP.
In the PSP it shows "Please Wait" when in USB mode. The USB ports of my PC are fine, because all other devices work properly [printer,joystick,Pen-Drive,external HDD -these are all what i've already used] .
Sometimes it shows it is properly connected, but when i go inisde the mem stick [from My Computer] it shows that the card is empty [I have songs, games, videos, other PSP folders etc in the mem card]. Otherwise it shows that the driver is not available etc.. PSP usually does not need a special driver as it act as a mass storage device.
It works properly in my laptop , OS : Windows XP Home Edition SP3. I have not tried connecting my PSP to any other win7 computers since i dont have any other.
    Please help me with this.
    Thank You

    Hello again to all,
Sorry that i didn't reply for a long time. I've been away.
My problem with PSP have been solved, surprisingly the solution was
"Tried connecting the PSP to a port behind my tower instead of the ports in the front panel".
I tried this because i read something similar in some other forum . I don't understand how or why it worked.
Also how and why it did not work. I dont think my USB ports have any problem because all other devices work
    properly.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • How do I build a family tree on macbook pro

Any suggestions/recommendations on how to build a family tree on my MacBook Pro? Should I use Numbers or Pages? I am used to using Window based programs. Not interested in paying $100 for a template.
I am starting with my grandparents, then their 8 children (my aunts and uncles), then my generation (cousins), then our children, and 1 more generation. Would like to add birth/death/married dates, and possiblly geographical info.
I appreciate your help and time - thank you.

Best of all would be an application designed for the purpose, such as (for example) MacFamilyTree, but you can make a mock family tree using cells in Excel or Numbers.

  • No Trackpad / Keyboard on Windows 7 Installation on mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro

    Hello,
Although there is a similar thread regarding this  --  this applies to a newly released mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro and the solution posted in the original thread does not work for this newer model.
I am attempting to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro.  (Running Mavericks 10.9.5)  I Have both an original Windows 7 Install DVD and a downloaded ISO file as well.
PLEASE NOTE:  That because I have need for multiple partitions on the SSD drive, I am not able to use Boot Camp Assistant to do the actual install.  I have accomplished this a number of times in the past without any issues during or after the install.  I have an MS-DOS(FAT) partition ready to go.
When I restart from the Windows 7 install DVD I get to the "Choose Language" screen and I have no trackpad or keyboard.  A wired USB Mouse does not work either
I am not able to create an install USB drive for this model because Boot Camp Assistant gets to the "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" task it gives an error message "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server"  (NOTE: Using Boot Camp Assistant to ONLY "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" as I get the same error message when attempting to do that.
It is my understanding based on the Apple article   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634  that I need to download the driver software directly from Apple with the link they provide.  I DID successfully download the Windows support software from Apple following the instructions in that article.  However, I am not aware of any way to include that downloaded software when using Boot Camp Assistant to create a USB install drive.
I tried the trick with the USB drive as explained in apple article  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4599  but even with a freshly formatted MS-DOS(FAT) USB drive in the USB port on the left of the MacBook Pro and the Apple USB Optical Drive plugged into the USB port on the right side of the MacBook Pro, I still have no Trackpad or keyboard when I get to the first screen of the Windows installation.
I spent the last two days searching posts here and in general and only end up more baffled than before . . .
I am as positive as possible that the USB drives I am using are USB 2 and NOT USB 3.  Although I guess that does not matter if I can't use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows installer that includes the Windows drivers for the MacBook Pro Hardware . . .
Some of the posts suggest that the Windows drivers from Apple need to be included on a USB install drive created with Boot Camp Assistant.  That appears to be impossible at the moment if the Software Update Server does not contain them.  I am confused as to why the are available directly from Apple  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1721 but they are not available when using Boot Camp Assistant????
Am I missing something???  Is this just a matter of waiting for Apple to add the necessary drivers to the Software Update server???  (It has only been two months since this MacBook Pro was released)
Has anyone successfully installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a mid-2014 MacBook Pro running Mavericks???
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated . . .
    John

    1. I have tried copying the Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse drivers to the $WinPEDriver$ directory with mixed success on a 2012 MBP.
    2. My experience is based on a 2013 rMBP. You may be able to use an Apple USB Keypad/Mouse to better success.
    3. See http://www.macworld.com/article/2460820/macbook-pro-mid-2014-review-minor-update -offers-slightly-better-cpu-performance.html for HW differences between the two machines.
    4. If you have access to a 2013 rMBP, I can suggest trying to build the USB on that and working with the USB to see if you can make it install Windows. the rMBP 2014 and rMBP 2013 have the same HW, except some CPU changes. You can also try building the USB at the nearest Apple store, if possible.
    5. There is a section in AutoUnattend.xml, which is supposed to install all drivers in $WinPEDriver$ (see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2686316 )

  • Stream Bluetooth Audio to Macbook Pro

    Hey All,
Hopefully one or more of the mac faithful on here can help me accomplish what I'm looking to do. I need to get this up and running by next weekend so time is of the essence!
Essentially, I want to transmit audio from my home stereo receiver (I have a Bluetooth audio transmitter hooked up for this purpose but it's designed to stream to bluetooth A2DP headphones) to my macbook pro and have it play on my macbook pro.
The macbook pro model i have is this one: MacBook Pro (Late 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) - Technical Specifications, and i don't have any additional audio or bluetooth software other than what came stock with the computer.
    TIA!

I got that to work... by running Windows XP in VMWare, using an external bluetooth adapter, and installing the WIDCOMM software from Broadcom. I would very much like this functionality in OS X too, since Im regularly connecting my MBP to my stereo, and I have an Android phone with no built-in AirPlay support.
It would be perfect if I could select an A2DP source as audio input in the Sounds preferences pane..

  • Is there any possible way I can dual boot Windows with OSX 10.7.2 on a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006?

    Hello,
I am new to this forums.
I have searched about dual boot win/mac, but couldn't find a clear answer, so I decided to post this now.
I run a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006 (Intel based) and have upgraded it to OSX 10.7.2 Lion.
I have tried to install windows 7 on a small (20GB) partition by using Bootcamp, but then I've received a notice saying that there was no windows support software available. However, I did install Windows 7 Professional by unchecking that box. After the installation I have downloaded the windows support software and tried to install it but then I've received a notice saying that I can't install it on this machine.
Could you please give me any suggestions on how to dual boot win/mac, if it is possible at all using this machine? And how to safely go back to where I was before (with a single mac OSX 10.7.2 partition)?
    Thanks.

This problem has been solved as I just needed to download Boot Camp 4.

  • Any Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio for macbook pro mid 2009

connecting MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to Hisense TV with audio?!?!!?
    hello everyone.
if anyone is familar with successfully getting the older macbook pros that dont support audio out to stream and preform digital audio on a TV or has any helpful information that will get me familiar with trying to successfully stream audio and visual. and can PLEASE HELP ME in any way to understand what they know and teach me how to solve my problem id really appreciate it.
i want to connect my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to my Hisense LED LCD TV, ModelNumber:40H3E  and getting digital audio sound from my TV as well as video, but have no clue on how or where to even start to successfully pairing the two and getting sound.
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) this MacBook model doesnt support an HDMI port. My MacBooks model has the Mini Displayport which supports video out but does not support audio out. Can someone help me by telling me exactly which Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio will support my model MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and exactly what HDMI wire do i need to buy that will successfully preform digital audio and sadisfying quality visual through TV?
i have NO expierence with the proccess have NO knowledge about any of this or these Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters with audio. i have no idea what kind of adapter and HDMI cord to buy that will give me sound from my tv for my type of macbook. '
im not familar AT ALL with any of this so i hope me giving you my MacBook Pros make and model and my TV's model number will be enough information for someone to help me.
just please give me anything you can on this topic
    thank you so much,

With a 2009 MacBook Pro, you need to use two connections to your TV: one for video and another one for audio.  The miniDisplayPort on the 2009 models does not support audio, so you need a separate audio cable:
miniDisplayPort adapter for video - I use the Apple miniDisplayport-DVI adapter + a DVI-HDMI cable like this one
audio cable for audio - use a 3.5mm male stereo-to-2xRCA male cable like this one
Connect the miniDisplayport adapter + DVI/HDMI cable to your MacBook Pro's miniDisplayPort output and the HDMI input on your TV
Connect the audio cable to your MacBook Pro's audio out and your TV's audio in
The only potential gotcha is if your Hisense TV requires audio via the HDMI cable when you use an HDMI cable.  The H3e user manual is unclear about this.

  • Windows Refuses to boot from 2 brand new Macbook pro 13 2011 model laptops

    I'm having the same problem.
I bought a macbook pro 13inch 2.3 ghz core i5 base model yesterday. I gave it the normal windows partition as i normally do with all my macs and tried to install Win7.
The installation was ok except that it took the macbook pro like 40 seconds to finish showing the Black screen with the blinking cursor .
I then Installed Bootcamp 3.2 and restarted, it took its normal 40 secs to show the black screen and blinking cursor after i had selected windows to boot and then it restarted!
I tried 4-6 times but it keeps giving me the same result.
I then reformatted 4 times both the Windows and Mac partitions and tried to repeat the windows installation but it kept giving me the same result.
A friend of mine bought his macbook pro 13 base model today and when i tried installing, it gives the same result! What is wrong?
I then installed Parallels 6 on both laptops and immediately it booted the already installed windows partition.(*but i don't want to use parallels )
But when i restart and hold down the option key and choose windows, it keeps giving me the black screen with the blinking cursor and the restarts itself.
I have used 10 or more macbook pros and airs in the past and they've never given me this sort of problem.
    What is wrong???

Having Windows on GPT and EFI; not having default OS set to Windows.
Having boot options in msconfig set to default (30 seconds) instead of reducing to 5 seconds (if present, it may not be).
40 seconds is slightly longer I guess for you than OS X but people with trouble are reporting 1-4 minutes. I think 40 is in normal range.
