Windows Tablet PC in a Mac Office

I run my law practice on a Mac Mini and love it. However, I miss my tablet PC for note taking in meetings and on the go; and, I still regularly use my Tablet PC for remote access in to my Mac. I am considering a new tablet PC for on the road.
I have been unable to find ANY tools for the mac for reading Windows Journal files (*.jnt files) created on the tablet pc. It looks like, in order to open my note files on my Mac, I'm going to have to first convert them to PDF (which kind of defeats the purpose of having a quick and easy "scratch pad"). It seems to me there should be some app on the Mac that can at least open windows Tablet PC note documents for viewing (and/or for adding typed notes to) even without the tablet functionality ... especially if Apple is going to continue to ignore the tablet pc market.
Does anyone else operate in a Tablet PC/Macintosh office? Would you be willing to share tips on your workflow, etc?
Thanks,

I'm looking for the same solution, & not finding much. Worse, I sold my Tablet, and since Microsoft decided to cripple its own TabletPC project by not distributing any of the software (nice), now I have no way to get Journal installed on my Macs XP partition to export the data to some useful format. I have years of work locked up in there.
In the past, I remember opening a .jnt, selecting all the data, opening Macromedia Flash 5, and pasting it in, whereby it could be exported to illustrator, acad, or any other functional vector format.
Copying from Journal viewer and pasting in Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Flash doesn't work.
Update: I found a copy of MMFlash5 w/serial# on eMule, installed it, and sure enough, it pastes in. Now to go through thousands of files of drawings, one sheet at a time, to copy & paste into old flash, export adobe illustrator files, then import & update into new Adobe Illustrator files...
Pretty sure this marks the end of my working with Microsoft programs.
Microsoft, sit, sit, stay... bad, company. BAD!
If in any way, this ever helps anyone, there ya go.

  • Switching to MAC from Windows: How to open files in Office 2007  VMFusion?

    Dear all,
    Intro:
I switched to MAC and now cannot find the solution to a simple problem.
First: I need an Office 2007 PowerPoint FULLY compatible solution.
What did not work: IWork, NeoOffice, Office 2008 (this is not fully compatible with Office 2007 Files)
I also had problems with: Parallels (not stable, too many hangups), codeweaver crossover (office files do not even open sometimes, good idea but not suitable for serious office jobs)
Now I have VMWare Fusion with WinXP and Office 2007 as this seems to be the only truly stable and best solution to run Office 2007 on Mac
    Question:
How to open files in Office 2007 on MAC VMWare Fusion easily?
It would be nice to spotlight the file and click and it opens in powerpoint or excel or word 2007 in Virtual Machine.
The only known solution to me is to use the Windows explorer to navigate to the file and then open it from Fusion WinXP. This is very cumbersome and honestly makes me think of getting back to a windows machine as I work with office frequently.
    Thank you for your help.

Thank you for the quick reply.
Yes, I have Office 2007 installed. The problem is that to open files in Fusion virtual machine I have to use the windows explorer and navigate to the file to open it. Now that I have the mac I want to use the good feature of spotlight. So when I search and find the file I want to open I cannot click on it on the mac (or in finder) but I have to switch back to the virtual machine, locate the file again and open it from windows.
You might think - ok, why not skip the first step of using spotlight, and look up the file in windows explorer before anything else?
Correct, but I know from parallels that there is a file association possible to directly access the file in office 2007.
This does not seem possible in Fusion - So the question is whether there is a possibility on the mac to associate the file and to click on it in finder/spotlight and the office 2007 application in fusion opens the file. So far I could not find anything.
    Thanks

  • How do I stop parallels and windows 7 preventing me from installing office for mac 2011 on my new iMac?

I am trying to install office for mac 2011 on my new imac which I have already installed parallels and windows 7.  On inserting the office dvd the computer defaults to windows.  Parallels support suggested disabling the dvd drive in parallels.  I have tried this but still the computer wants to open the exe file with windows.  Any ideas please?

  • HELP!! MAC updates converted all MAC Office files into Windows!!!!

Hi...please help me!! I have a MacBook with MAC Office and Parallels so I also run Microsoft Office. I recently did all of the updates that MAC prompts you to do with out really looking closely at what they were and it ended up converting ALL of my MAC Office files (word, excel, everything) into Microsoft documents so I can't open them. Please tell me there is any easy fix for this...I really appreciate the help!!

This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and completely unrelated to Parallels.
While the issue may seem related to your recent software updates, the issue is actually with Parallels, and should be posted over on the Parallels forums: http://forums.parallels.com

  • How do you view a Windows Powerpoint without buying the entire Mac Office software?

I have Pages and OS Lion. I don't want to buy more software to view powerpoints my teachers post online. When I open them up normally, it opens in Preview, which is fine cause I just want to read them, not edit them. But in Preview it distorts (enlarging the text) on only a few slides but I can't reformat them so I have all the words in view. What should I do.

There are several free work-alike packages to Microsoft office for the Mac:
    Open Office
    Neo Office
these are equivalent to Mac Office, and should open PC versions of files as well.

  • Cannot print from Mac Office after Mavericks upgrade

    Hello,
I'm finding it difficult to send a print job to a network printer from any of the Mac Office products.  I have no problem printing PDFs.  Interestingly enough, when I select Command+P and then click on the  PDF button at the bottom left of the print screen, it prints to the networked Sharp MFP printer but not to the networked Dell printer (yes, we have many flavors of printers on our campus). The inability to print directly from Word or Excel surfaced after the upgrade to Mavericks.
I can print PDFs to the Sharp MFP but not to any other networked printer.   I've been to the Sharp MFP website and I believe I have the latest print driver that they have available.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    M

Here is a script to fix the plugins to get back some functionality to MAC OS X 10.9 printing.
Place the plugin.py file on the desktop, open a terminal session, to do that click on the Applications Folder, then the Utilities Folder, then Terminal.
Type CD Desktop <ENTER>, sudo python plugin.py <ENTER> and enter the admin password when prompted. Once it is finished, close the terminal window and restart the MAC.
Tandem Printing and Document Filing will not work, actually Main Folder and Quick Folder will work but we can’t read the list of User folders as network access is restricted.

  • Is it possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server in a Virtual Machine software like Parallels

I am wondering if it is possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server as a VM as my main application uses Windows VisualBasic and Fox Pro and requires a Static IP to connect to it, My other offices connects to Windows Server via RDP.
Basically I am researching a Server for the same purpose and since Mac Mini and OsX both are robust in nature it can fit the bill if every thing work fine.
    Thanks

    From the Parallels website:
    32-bit Operating Systems
Windows 8 with: Windows 8, 8.1 (when available)
    Windows 7 SP1
    Windows Vista SP0, SP1, SP2
    Windows Server 2008 R2, SP2, SP1, SP0
    64-bit Operating Systems
    Windows 8
    Windows 7 SP1
    Windows Vista SP0, SP1, SP2
    Windows Server 2012
    Windows Server 2008 R2, SP2, SP1, SP0
I do suggest that you upgrade RAM to at least 8gig
    if you haven't already.
FWIW, I currently use Win8/64 bit with Parallels on a 2011 Mini Server
using the windows environment for engineering applications and have
had no issues.  I am running Mountain Lion but do not have the
    Server app installed.

  • Mac Office and Microsoft Office 2007

How do you open the Microsoft Office 2007 .docx in Office 2004 for Mac (Professional edition)?

Has anyone else had any similar problems?
Apparently the converter is really bad! MacFixit published this article on their own experiences:
OOXML Word 2007 converter (#3): Failure and mild success
Last week reported on the release of and misfortune with a newly released Mac OS X-compatible drag-and-drop OOXML converter (which can convert Word 2007 for Windows and Word 2008 for Mac OS X [when released]) documents to RTF (rich-text-format) documents, readable by Word 2004, Word v.X and other applications.
Our experience to the converter was poor, with a relatively simple Word 2007 document failing to convert at all with the error messages "There was an error opening the file. Conversion Failed."
Reader experience was somewhat mixed, with some reporting mild success but most sharing in our dismay.
Fails to convert at all One camp of users -- like our in-house trial -- is unable to convert files at all, receiving only error messages.
    One user writes:
"Sadly for me, this doesn't seem to work at all on my computer. I get an error message every time I try to convert a file."
Converts some files Another group of users has success with some files but not others.
    A reader writes:
"I tried it with a couple of different word .docx files and it worked on 3 out 8; not the best result, but then it's only a beta so perhaps it will get better in the future."
Success, or something like it Finally, some users had success converting files, though in nearly every case, there was some flaw apparent in the resultant file.
    MacFixIt reader Neal Pann writes:
"I had recently received a docx file via email (in Mail) and saved that file to the desktop. After dragging and dropping the file on the converter, it quickly converted the file and everything looked exactly like the original with the exception that one of the graphics didn't convert. A 'block' taking up the same space of the graphic was there, just no graphic. I believe that is something that is noted in the notes that some graphics might not convert correctly."
    MacFixIt reader Marcus adds:
"Install went smoothly on a MacBook Core Duo, 1G RAM, 10.4.9. Tested using a '.docx' document emailed from a 'Windows friend.' Document was very small and contained only one paragraph of less than 200 words. Worked whether double-clicking on document or dragging into OOXML window."
Alternatives Note that there are a number of alternatives to the official Microsoft Word 2007 converter that might provide better results for some documents. These include:
    docXconverter
    manual extraction
the built-in translators offered by NeoOffice

  • MAC Office 2011 continues to disconnect from Exchange server.

Just install / deploy a new iMAC running OSx 10.9.5 and MAC Office / Outlook 14.4.5 (141003).  After a period of idle time the Outlook client indicates "not connected to <exchange server>".  Have to exit and re-open / relaunch Outlook
client in order to get the client to update / sync.   Tried recreating account / profile -- doesn't resolve issue.
    OWA works fine / smartphone works fine too;
Windows PC running Windows 7 and Office 2013 works fine too.
    Please Help.
    Thank you,
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
Based on my knowledge, here are some differences between Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac when connecting to Exchange:
    1. Outlook for Windows accesses autodiscover via SCP, MAC Outlook
uses only the predefined URLs, the HTTP redirect check, or the DNS SRV lookup method. This is similar to what Outlook uses when it runs Autodiscover service from outside the organization’s network.
    2. Outlook for Windows use Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) to connect to Exchange 2013 while Outlook for Mac uses Exchange Web Services to communicate with the Exchange server.
Since the issue only happens in Mac users, I suggest we can ask a question in Outlook for Mac forum for more suggestion:

  • My shortcut not working in Mac Office 2011

    Hi all,
As attched pic, I don't have the shortcut description on right in my mac office 2011. It makes me can't copy or paste at all, even can't do the "select all"...etc. It bothers me awhile, hop someone familiar the setting for Mac Office 2011 can help me out. thanks in advance for the help

Run the affected program and select Customize Keyboard from the Tools menu. In the dialog box that appears select the Edit menu in the left window pane and in the larger one to the right scroll down to EditCopy - you'll find EditPaste etc nearby. I expect you'll find that under the EditCopy shortcuts there on the Customize Keyboard dialog that you won't see Command C. You can add it by moving down to the Add Shortcut box and typing a Command C.

  • Creating copies of mac office for 2008 installer

    Hi,
I bought a mac office for 2008 installer and it's good for 3 macs (3 genuine license keys). I was thinking of creating DVD copies of it so I have backups for the other macs where I will install it.
Is this possible? Can I just copy the contents of the mac installer. I'm slowly switching to mac and i'm not sure if the process is just the same as in windows.
    Thanks!

  • Mac Office 2011 receiving win.dat or blank calender invites

    Hi,
When calender invites are send to users using Mac Office 2011 from Office 2013, it is received as win.dat attachments, which turns out to be empty when opened. If send as a plain text invite, still it gets to mac users as empty. Mac users are on Mavericks
and Window users are on Windows 7. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,
Does this issue happen to other meeting attendees? Please try to send a meeting to a user who use Office for Windows and check if this issue continues.
Do you have any virus scanner installed? A virus scanner which integrates itself with Outlook and it may cause message to go blank. Please uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner on both the sender an recipient side and try again. See:
    http://www.msoutlook.info/question/20
In addition, some users were able to fix this issue by unticking the option "When sending meeting requests outside of your organization, use the iCalendar format" under
    File > Options > Calendar > section
Calendar Options in Outlook 2013. You may have a try of this.
Please let me know the result.

  • Dynamicaly insert data on documents (iWork or Mac Office)

    Hi!
I am not sure if there is any method that could be possible doint what I am looking for, in windows envoirment development I can have my app to open a word document and inject data on certain fields.
I currently have a Filemaker Pro 12 app that generates documents with data pushed from database, but those document layouts are background PDFs. What I am looking for is that I could call iWork (Page or Numbers) or Mac Office (Word or Excel) and inject data there.
I think the route will be Office, since late iWork Numbers and Pages version its crap because Apple now even cuted the AppleScript options to work with.
Other options are maybe PDFs with fileds but dont know if PDF are "injectable"...
I am looking for a good starting (or best approach) point or quit and let this work at it is.
    thanx

iWork is pre-installed on all Macs and if, by chance, your computer doesn't have it you can download the demo from Apple's web site. The demo is the full version limited only by being usable for 30 days. You can buy a license online and serialize the demo version getting exactly what you'd get if you had the disc.
I work in academia and mostly use iWork. The documents that I pass on to my students and colleagues as well as the documents that I receive from my students and colleagues are almost always perfectly translated from Office by Pages. There have only been a few rare exceptions where a document I've received won't translate well. While I've been testing Pages since it was first released I've also been testing NeoOffice and the documents Pages cannot read NeoOffice has. NeoOffice is a freeware Office clone. In my testing I've also learned what to avoid so that my Pages documents will properly export to Office. Again, NeoOffice has been invaluable. I do have Office on my computer, though if I were required to pay for it I'd not have bothered. NeoOffice is good enough mostly.
So, could you get by with iWork? Yes. Should you? Since you are a student you are eligible for the Student/Home version of Office which runs about $130, not quite twice as much as iWork. If on the whole, your work will be done in Word for academic style papers, I think the answer is yes - just be sure to download either NeoOffice or OpenOffice so you can learn what not to do. If you'll also be doing presentations, you'll find that the compatibility between Keynote and PowerPoint is disappointing. Your Keynote presentations will export and PowerPoint presentations will load into Keynote. The problem is your Keynote presentations will lose something in the translation. If you'll be using Excel – buy Office.
