WinMain events in JNI

I am currently working on an application that uses DirectSound (JavaSound does not have the capabilities that I need). In order for the DirectSound buffer
to be filled at specified play blocks, I have to pass it the handle for my application. So far this is fine...I can get my java window handle easily enough from my JNI code and pass it to the DirectSound buffer.
Now comes the trouble...the callbacks that DirectSound makes are to WinMain. I cannot set a custom callback, I only give it the handle to my application. So I see two options
1. create an invisible window that exists for the purpose of these callbacks
- this will not work becase I cannot call my own JNI callback method for
refilling the buffer from a separate application (at least not without great
difficulty and the callback needs to be fast)
2. Somehow regsiter a callback within JNI with the JVM so that I will be notfieid if the JVM (which has the WinMain for the application) catches my events
Any ideas as to how to do the second or possibly another way to catch the WinMain events in my java app (within my JNI dll)?

there wont be events for session method, but u have to use these function modules

  • Dispatching events from JNI

I've got an application that is trying to watch for mouse events anywhere and everywhere. The goal is to be in-the-know when there is mouse activity going on in general, with the Java app running in the taskbar.
I have determined that I'll likely need JNI to accomplish this, as paying attention to mouse activity over the whole operating system is somewhat operating system dependent. : )
Nevertheless, I'd like Java code to handle the events, and I can't seem to find any way for JNI to dispatch events back to the Java side of things. My hope was to catch the events thrown by the system in C/C++ and then simply dispatch them again to act as a middle-man.
If anybody can tell me how I might accomplish this using JNI, or even a step in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Or, if I'm barking up the wrong tree, please please let me know.
    Thanks,
    - J

    Steps in order
    1. Determine how to capture the events in C/C++. There is no java in this step.
    2. Write an API in C/C++ that models the functionality that you want to use in java. There is no java in this step.
    3. Write java/jni that uses the API in 2. There is java in this step.
As a callback you will need to use the jni attach thread method.
You better be careful as messing up on any of the steps above can render your mouse inoperable for the entire OS, so learn the keyboard shortcuts.
I think that someone posted code like this in the past. I could be mistaken however.

  • Can I develop a driver mouse with Java?

    Hi,
Can you tell me, if I can develop a driver mouse with Java and if not why and with which programming software?
And do you have a web site or forum reference about driver mouse?
    Best regards,
    Dimnet2000

Aren't you all a little too hasty with your NOs?
If the task is to develop a standard plugged-in mouse driver you see and use everyday and that loads together with the bootup process of Linux, Windows... the answer propably is "No" or "better not".
Other than that... You can draw on the screen and you can communicate with the Serial Port. I think you could very well build your own mouse driver for a non standard Mouse to make it work in all Java applications. If you don't need 100% platform independancy you might think about building modules to trigger OS-Events via JNI.
For standard use this might not seem a sensible thing to do, but imagine if you are in some way handicapped and need a very special mouse that you want to carry around and use across several platforms without compiling and instaling drivers everywhere...

    Hello,
In Firefox 23, as part of an effort to simplify the Firefox options set and protect users from unintentially damaging their Firefox, the option to disable JavaScript was removed from the Firefox Options window.
However, the option to disable JavaScript was not removed from Firefox entirely. You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on.
    '''about:config'''
    # In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
    # Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
    # In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
    # Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript is now disabled.
To Re-enable JavaScript, repeat these steps.
    '''Add-ons'''
You can alternatively install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/noscript/ No-Script] (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required)
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava/ QuickJava] (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content)
Thank you and I hope this helps!

  • All event Listener throught JNI

    Hello,
I need to receive all events from Operating System, in this case Windows Vista.
I know how to use JNI, however I don't know the C or C++ code for Mouse And Key Listener.
Can anyone write a listener in C or C++ so i can use it in Java?
    Thanks

  • Event Dispatch Thread Hangs, what is wrong?

The Event Dispatch Thread Hangs when showing a modal dialog while running a
    SwingWorker Thread.
I have included my code at the bottom of the page. There are three classes. I have posted a bug report to red hat. But I want to make sure my code is correct.
My test case just puts the SwingWorker to sleep
but the problem occurs if I do something real, like connect to a database, etc.
Also I have tried little different variations of the logic calling
setVisible(true)/(false) in different places and the same problem occurs.
It seems to work with Sun JDK, note I am using IcedTea with Fedora Core 8.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
    [szakrews@tuxtel ~]$ java -version
    java version "1.7.0"
    IcedTea Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0-b21)
IcedTea Client VM (build 1.7.0-b21, mixed mode)How reproducible:
    Every couple times.
    javac TestClass2
java TestClass2eventually it will hang. If it doesn't try again.
You don't have to wait for the program to finish either.
The program runs the Dialog 10 times but it never works or fails in the middle, it will either work or fail from the first dialog displayed.
I have included a thread dump. That is about the most informative information I can get. Neither tracing nor writing a custom ThreadQueue or Drawing Manager to trace events produces any helpful information.
    Actual results:
The JProccessBar won't move, and the SwingWorker finishes but the done() method is never run. The PROGRAM is not hung however because if I close the dialog then it will continue.
    Expected results:
The JProccessBar should always move and the SwingWorker should always run the done() method.
    Additional info:
java thread dump after freeze, taken with kill -s SIGQUIT <pid>

There's nothing directly wrong with it, but it will
prevent other threads acquiring the class lock - but
that may be what you want.True. Although the typical case for code that looks like this would be to use wait--usually the various threads in question require the same lock, so you have to use wait in order for the waiting thread to give it up and allow the other thread to do its work. Hard to say for sure though what he's doing.
Also, if loading is all that the other thread does, and you're waiting for that thread to die, use join. But then, if that's the case, and you're only waiting for a single other thread, then you might as well just put it all in one thread, as already indicated.

  • A JAVA PROGRAM TO CONTROL SYSTEM EVENTS OF WIDOWS XP

    Hello everyone.
The question is: can I develop a java program that can control system events of a windows environment? For example a program to shut down the computer, log off or open and close windows applications?
If so, how can i do that??
please help me. Your help is appreciated in advance.
    thanks.

    Hi,
If you want to make native calls, you can use JNI (Java Native Interface).
Using JNI, you call call any C/C++ funtions.
Please visit, http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jni/ for JNI structure. To program using JNI, read the book given in the link. It is very useful for beginners.

  • Urgent help needed on writing errors in to windows events application logs

    Hi all,
we have web based application. Whenever there is critical errors encounters in our application we need to write that errors in to windows
event viewer, application logs. Please help me on how to do this.
do we have any specific API for this ?
    thanks in advance
    Shivakumar

You should use WinAPI to do so. Asking in JNI forum (or specialized WinAPI forum) for more details is good idea I think.

  • Variety of periodic JVM crashes (no JNI)

    Hello,
I have a J2SE application that runs on a Linux box that is getting a number of various JVM crashes. The program has no JNI and does not use any libraries, it's all just Java. The call stacks are always different, and I don't see any consistency in what is happening in the application when the JVM crashes. It does however always seem to be a SIGSEGV. Sometimes they happen after 2 minutes of uptime, sometimes after days.
I tried upgrading the JVM from 6.0_27-b07 to 7.0_06-b24 but it has made no difference. I uploaded all the hs_err logs here: http://www.tacticstudios.com/downloads/logs.rar if you would like to take a look.
Due to the inconsistent call stacks my only assumption is that memory is getting corrupted in some way, and the crash is occurring later on.  Maybe it is a hardware problem? I'm not certain what would cause this.
Any assistance you can provide in how to debug this, or any ideas would be extremely appreciated. I have pasted the most recent error log below.
    Jesse

    Hi!
I've got the jvm crashing when it calls native methods
    via the JNI.
The same native method run without a glitch in "pure"
    C. So there is no bug in the native method, I suppose.
    What is more interesting
is that the same java program with the same native
interface runs fine using gij (from gnu) too!
    $ java -version

    (build 1.4.2-b28)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-b28, mixed
    mode)
The native methods are in C. Compiled using gcc.

If you are interested, I can also post the dyanamic
    libraries.
Any help is appreciated. Please cc me a copy at

    Thanks,
Abhishek.Signal 11 is a segmentation fault. If this runs fine in pure C then you may be passing it a null value on the Java side. I am unfamilar with gij, so I don't know what to say about that

  • JNI native threads causing JRE to fail to shut down?

    Hello,
I am using JNI to communicate with a COM object. I am reasonably certain at this point that my JNI code is handling this properly and the third party COM library is releasing the object in question. We allocate and release hundreds of these objects and we aren't observing any memory leaks. Likewise in our handling of events we receive from the COM object. We attach the thread to Java, deliver the event, and then detach the thread from Java, with very careful error handling around the event delivery to ensure that whatever else happens the detach gets called. This code is very robust and stable in operation and has been working at load in the field for over a year now without any customer problems in the JNI area.
However, since day one, when I go to shut down the application, the JNI isn't winding down properly. As it happens, since the JRE is running a Tomcat, driven by a wrapper service, the wrapper eventually gives up waiting and shoots the JRE in the head, but the user experience of stopping the wrapper service is ugly and we'd like to clean that up. The JNI code, of course, runs as shared code in the Tomcat.
It is possible that the third-party library, which does network communications, is keeping a thread pool for use with any of the COM objects even after all COM objects are released. This would be experienced as a one-time hit when the first object is allocated and not as a continual leak, so we'd be unlikely to notice it otherwise.
Will native non-Java threads running in the JRE but not allocated by the JRE itself cause the JRE to hang on until they've spontaneously decided to clean themselves up? Threads that have never been attached to the JVM? How about threads that were briefly attached to the JVM but then detached? Any worse?
    Ralph

    Hi Ralph,
I will need some more information regarding this issue.
    1. What platform are you on?
    2. Which JRockit version are you running?
    3. If you remove the wrapper service, does JRockit freeze without exiting properly?
As a general recommendation I would try to upgrade to the latest JRockit version. It can be downloaded from the OTN http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jrockit/index.html
You may also try some verbose printouts to debug the issue a little further. Try
    -Xverbose:thread=debug,jni=debug
This might give us some more insight in what is going on.
Also when JRockit freezes you can output a Java stack trace using our 'jrcmd' tool which you can find in the same folder as the java executable. Run this tool without any parameters and it will output identifiers (numbers) for every running JRockit instance on your machine. Run the same tool again, this time append the identifier you believe is the one running the Tomcat and add the command 'print_threads', ie
    jrcmd <some_id_here> print_threads
This may show what JRockit is waiting for.
    Cheers,
    /Henrik

    Hi all,
My JNI program works fine. And also Visual Studio IDE allow to debug C++ program properly.

So please tell anyone could Figure out what is this file all about??
Is this says to be worry about it .. or just provide information of current system status??
I will be obliged to you if you would help me
    Thank you.

This is exactly due to the memory stack. This error is entirely due to the native code.Check the native code,if there are data conversions handle them carefully
and if you are passing an array see to that the array doesnt oveflow.
Have some prints in the native code and watch the data transferred

  • JNI error

    Hi for everyone...
I'm having a problem with JNI, I have a C program, and i used Java and JNI to create an interface for it...
I've done all like the Tutorial, created the shared library, created my interface...
i've created a little class, just to test my library, and it all worked fine, but when i try to run the library from my interface, i get a strange error:
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
    Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0x4C8B51B2
    Function=principal__Fv+0x12
it appears a lot of stuff!!
i'm calling the native method from inside a Button event when i get this error, but when i try to run the native method from the constructor, for example, it all goes fine!!
Can't i call the method from an event handler??? Is there something i can do to run my app??
    thanks in advance
    R9

Yeah, i'd already found the error... my native code was using too much memory, with very large vectors... when i made them smaller, it all worked fine...
    thanks anyway for the help...
    R9
PS.: I am running out of Duke Dollars, is there a way to take some Dollars off this message and back to my acount?? i've already transfered two for you, but i'd like to get the rest back...
Can't i call the method from an event handler??? Is
there something i can do to run my app??There are no restrictions as to when you can call
    native methods.
This VM error means that your native code has accessed
memory outside its memory space. That is, you have a
segmentation fault (or in Windows terminology, an
ACCESS_VIOLATION). In other words your native code
has some sort of ordinary crashing bug.

  • JNI calls only work if sent from main thread?!?

    Hi,
I searched through the forum for a couple of hours now, and found that a lot of developers seem to have problems with JNI and threads. However, I couldn't find a solution to my problem so far...hope you can help!
We need to send requests to a DDE Server from our Java application. For that reason, we implemented a very small DLL using Delphi, which calls the DDE Server and returns the result as a string. Using JNI, we call this DLL from Java.
Everything works fine, as long as we call the DDE Server (via JNI and the DLL) from the main thread of the Java application. But everytime we call it from another Java thread, our DDL reports that it can't get a connection to the DDE Server. This is especially awkward if you want to make calls as a reaction to GUI events, since then the call is sent by the Event Dispatch Thread of the Java runtime.
This does not seem to be a multi-threading problem, since we do never send multiple requests at the same time. It simply depends on the thread, from which the call is sent.
Any hints are appreciated very much.
    Thanks!
    Thilo

We are a step further now...thus the problem to be solved changed a little bit.
The former assumption, that connecting to the DDE server does only work from the main thread was false. It only seemed like that, because we called System.loadLibrary() to in the main thread to load the DLL . In fact, the connection to the DDE server works from any thread - you just have to make sure that System.loadLibrary() is invoked in this same thread.
This means: if System.loadLibrary() is invoked in the Event Dispatch Thread, we can call the DDE Server from this thread, which is what we primarily wanted to do. So our problem is solved.
Anyway, I made some more tests to find out, what happens if I start multiple threads, with each of them calling System.loadLibrary(). The result was, that only the first thread is successful. This means: the first thread, which loads the DLL is the only thread that is able to connect to the DDE server. All other threads won't get a connection.
What could be the reason for that?

  • JNI Question 2

    Hello again,
I am seeing an intermittent error come up that's hanging my application. This is occurring when I make the following call into my cocoa library using Java JNI:
JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL JavaMacTaskTrayIconcreateTaskTrayIcon(JNIEnv* env, jobject caller, jstring iconFilePath)
NSStatusItem * statusItem = [[NSStatusBar systemStatusBar]
    statusItemWithLength:NSVariableStatusItemLength];
    Here's the error I see:
    2006-07-18 10:02:49.821 java[6511] * Assertion failure in -[NSViewHierarchyLock unlockTopMostReader], AppKit.subproj/NSViewHierarchyLock.m:444

2006-07-18 10:02:49.822 java[6511] Apple AWT Restarting Native Event Thread
I've elminated all other code in my cocoa library and still get the problem, so I have isolated the problem to the one call listed above.
Since this error occurrs intermttently, I think that it's some kind of threading issue. When java calls into JNI, should I move the NSStatusItem creation call to some other privileged thread, or do I need to acquire some kind of lock before making the call?
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Many Thanks,

    Hi
A google search of this error indicates that it appears from time to time and can be quite difficult to tie down, however, it appears to have nothing to do with JNI.
On one forum I saw this comment in relation to this error:
"The most common cause is unmatched -[NSView unlockFocus] invocations."
    http://www.cocoabuilder.com/archive/message/cocoa/2006/1/11/154180
If this can shed some light on your problem then great, otherwise I suggest you put the error message into google and see if the responses can help you.
    Good luck
    Bob
