Wired internet doesnt work

Ive been using a WRT160N for almost a year now, 1 for a wired desktop and another for a wireless laptop.Suddenly the wired desktop cant connect to the internet but the wireless works fine. i tried reseting it and renewing the ip still no avail. is my router broken?

Are you getting an ip address if you wire a computer to the router? Like what was mentioned above, try each port in the router and do a ping test.
1. Connect a computer to port 1 of the router
2. Open command prompt and type in ping 192.168.1.1
3. Check and see if you get any replies
4. Do this for all 4 ethernet ports of the router
If you do not get any response, do a firmware upgrade. You may use a wireless computer in doing this, but you need to be near the router to make sure that the wireless connection will not be interrupted. Once the upgrade is finish, reset and reconfigure the router.

  • At each startup I need to use intrnt conect to or else internet doesnt work

Everytime I startup my iMac G5 I have to use internet connect and type in my 26 digit password to reconnect to the network or else the internet wont work. I was hoping some one this forum would have an answer to my problem. I thought I should mention that all the other computers in the network are windows PCs.

    spence_914,Welcome to Apple Discussions.
For future reference you've posted in the iMac G3 "CRT" forum - whilst I do not wish to be unhelpful you will be better to post in the iMac G5 forum for future queries as the users there will be much more familiar with iMac G5 issues. Some users in this forum are still in OS 9 and so the chances of getting a rapid responce are reduced.
    G3: G5:
Internet Connect. We'll need some more details to be able to assist with the original issue:
How do you network with the PCs? - WiFi? - Ethernet?
How is your network connected to the internet? Wireless Router with Cable/DSL connection? USB modem connected to one machine? etc etc.
I haven't used Internet Connect application since I was on dial up - is that how you connect?
Or are you trying to connect the Mac to the internet whilst file sharing with the PCs?
Have you looked at using Keychain - which replaces filling in many passwords.
    kind regards

  • "WIRED" internet now working. ???

I can't seem to connect directly to my router wired anymore. When I tried the other day to do this so I could set my router to a secured wireless it kept saying that it wasn't connected to the internet.
Have I inadvertently set something in the preferences to not recognize the card or is there a way to check if the card is OK?
Wireless works fine. It's just the wired that's not working.
OK, I just tried hooking my wife's PC laptop up to the router via cable but no luck there either.
Could it be something in my router?
Oh yeah ... the router is a Linksys BEFW1154 (as best as my old eyes could read it.)

Can an admin or someone change the topic title to "NOT" working instead of NOW. My typo. oops.
Maybe I might get a response then. ????????
Thanks in advance to whomever this concerns.

  • New S10-2 wired internet not working

I just bought an S10-2, running XP, and there's a problem which I don't understand - it won't connect to the internet under Windows. When I got it home, it connected to the WiFi setup, but wouldn't open any webpages. The other computers at home were working fine though, and so I tried to see if it would work if I plugged the network cable directly into the computer.
That didn't work either, and the error message that comes is that the network cable is unplugged. The little lights on the side of the port didn't switch on either, so I thought there might be something wrong with that. During a reboot though, I noticed that the lights DO switch on, and the router lights all switch on too, right until Windows starts up.
So I tried updating the drivers, which didn't help, and then I re-installed Windows, which didn't make a difference either. So I tried using the quickstart, and that, well that works. The Splashtop browser thing, when in that mode, I can connect to the internet both by plugging the cable into the computer, and then later I tried to connect it to the wireless here and that worked fine too. So I thought a-ha! It's Windows!
But I hadn't told my brother about this and so he took the machine back to the shop, and they plugged it into their network cable to see the problem, aaaaand... it worked. It worked in Windows over there. So my brother brought it back. Stumped, I tried it in a couple of other locations and it didn't work. But at the Lenovo dealership, it works, and now I don't know what to do.
Because I can use it like this, but I really would rather use it with the rest of Windows running. And it's very very annoying. And I'm close to having a nervous breakdown because of this. So please, someone, help. Please.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try this once I get home and I'll update again. I'm a reporter by profession and have absolutely no technical background, have just been trying to do what seems reasonable. I wanted to ask, could the problem also have something to do with the type of internet connection? (I ask because the same cable worked with a different laptop in the house) Anyway, thanks again for responding, it's reassuring to know that someone is willing to give advice, really

  • Internet doesnt work after setting up airport extreme

My internet works fine with the router on default settings, but when I go the the wizard to set it up and secure the network, it stops working. I can connect to the router itself but there is no internet access. When I revert to default settings it works again.

If nothing works, try a factory reset: disconnect the Extreme from power, press the reset button, plug in power while still pressing the reset button, release reset button after 5 seconds or so.
This method usually helps me with problems with my Airport Extreme and Express (this happens seldom by the way). The only disadvantage is that you have to set it up again completely.

  • I changed some settings and my internet doesnt work

So this morning I was playing around with my routers settings that I accessed thru 192.168.1.1. The only change I made was to allow public LAN. Now I'm not quite sure what that means (so obviously shouldn't have played with it). But previously my network did broadcat and it did not have a password. So after I allowed public LAN, my Internet connection switched to limited connectivity and I can't get my Internet back. I have tried multiple restarts and disabled ipv6, updated my wireless card settings and nothing I do works. I also tried to modify my Internet settings thru the Internet at 192.168.1.1, but it won't connect with limited connectivity and remote access to the router is disabled
What can I do to get my Internet back?
I have windows vista- lenovo/IBM T61- westell router(not sure what type)- verizon internet

Reset your router. There should be a reset button on it somewhere. This will bring it back to the default settings and it should start working again, or at least make it so you can access it via 192.168.1.1 to configure it.

  • IPod touch wifi connects but internet doesnt work

I have a wireless router that I connect to but when I attempt to get to the internet or app store, it says "cannot connect: invalid argument"
    What should I do?

When you think you are connected (a checkmark appears next to your network name), tap the blue > next to your network name. Do you have a device IP address, subnet mask, router IP, and DNS IP addresses visible? I think you are probably see just an IP address that starts with 169.x and an incomplete subnet mask.
If this is what you are seeing, the 169.x IP address is a self-assigned (and non-functional) IP address. You are logged onto your network but your router is not issuing your touch an IP address.
A few of things you can do (and you can check after each step):
    1. Restart/reboot your router (just remove the power, wait a few, and plug it back in)
    2. Reset your network settings on the touch - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. After your touch restarts, log back into your network by tapping Settings > WiFi > Other and re-entering your network name, security, and password.
    3. If you are using WEP, either change to WPA2-psk or use your hex key in place of a password
    4. Check to see if your router is using the latest firmware. If it isn't, download and install the latest.

  • Help! router doesnt work

i just reseted my linksys WRT54G 5.0, because i needed to restore the default password (admin). however, after reset the internet doesnt work at all. what do i have to do to help router

    Hello,
After a "reset" you loose your configuration, you must reconfigure all, (router and wireless option.)
In the admin tab you can make a back-up of your configuration on your PC, it's usefull when you reset the LinkSys.
    Hope this help.

  • Internet not working after MAC book goes into sleep mode

If my mac book goes to sleep or if i close it when i wake it up/open it the internet doesnt work, usually have to restart it or wait several minutes in order for the internet to come back any way to fix this problem?

Safari, Firefox will all open up; we're talking specifically about airport. It will not automatically connect to my home's wireless network once I wake it from sleep. Actually it will not even pick up or recognize any other close by networks. When you click on the airport symbol to get the drop down menu, the only option that is there is 'other'.
Once I wake it, I will leave it there for about ten minutes and when I come back it has finally picked up the other networks and I am able to connect to my home's wireless network.

  • On Safari, ipad connects to the internet.  But when in applications such as Keynote, I try to e-mail presentattion it doesnt work.

I am a teacher and have my own iPad with a data plan.  We also have a router in teh classroom for wifi, and it has a very strong signal.  On Safari, the ipads can connect to the internet.  But when in applications such as Keynote and HTML Egg, I try to e-mail presentat. or post website to web, it doesnt work.  I tried re-setting the proxies and the router, no luck.  Please Help!  I am a teacher and want my students to be able to post their websites on to the web, and e-mail themselves and their parents their Keynote Presentations.

Try this. Turn your iPad Off. Then disconnect the power going to the router for 30 seconds or longer. Then replug the power to the router (allow it to initialize) and turn On the iPad. Hopefully everything will connect. If not, see below.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Wired internet doesn't work, even after fresh install?

So i'm fairly new to the linux stuff, but for some reason I cannot get my wired internet (eth0) to work. Bear with me because I've got a decent tale to give to fill you in:
After successfully installing archlinux for the first time, I was able to get the internet and everything working, but my boot manager was messed up. So I got a friend to fix that problem for me and I started updating my system through pacman. After successfully updating and changing the pacman mirror files I started downloading/installing gnome (and gnome-extra). I left it overnight and when I woke up in the morning all hell broke loose. After rebooting my computer and logging back into arch I found a number of my bash commands no longer worked (ifconfig, iwconfig, halt, shudown, reboot, dhcpcd, just to name a few I remember) so I had to manually turn off my labtop. At that point I decided to reinstall linux.
After reinstalling linux my network troubles began and from that point on I can no longer connect to the pacman servers and my eth0 times out upon booting into linux every time (for those of you wondering, yes I did change in rc.conf the eth0="dhcp" like I was supposed to). I get a transient failure or something of the likes. The wierdest thing is this:
When trying to reinstall linux using the ftp install I can configure my network (step 0), but when I get to trying to connect to a server and downloading the packages I fail to connect to the servers! Can someone please tell me what is going on?
Just for a few more backgrounds, I am installing arch64 on an intel core-duo processor with it dual-booting with windows vista ultimate. I don't think any of this is the problem considering I had it working once up a time, but now for some reason it doesn't work so i'm hoping for my wiser archlinux users to help me out.
EDIT: In a new turn of developments it seems my wired connection is now malfunctioning. Although just 5 hours ago at a friends house (when I was still having linux network problems) it worked just fine. My network card is a Intel(r) PRO/1000 PL card. Can my linux half screw up my windows half ethernet card and vice versa?
Just tried to uninstall and then reinstall my ethernet card and my wired connection still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Well after many hours of toil, it seems that it has now decided to work. Still have no clue why my wired connection failed for that duration of time, but whatever. Archlinux is installed and running fine so I suppose all ends well.
