WITH clause querying other WITH clause

I want to do something like this:
with t1 as
    select * from table1
,t2 as
    select col1,col2 from t1
select * from t1,t2as you all can see, t2 WITH clause queries t1 WITH clause. how do I do this? because this doesn't work. thanks

how do I do this?Works fine for me on my 11.2.0.2:
SQL> with t1 as (select dname from dept),
     t2 as (select dname from t1)
select t1.dname d1, t2.dname d2
  from t1, t2

  • Perf tuning issue with a query involving between clause

    Hi all,
    I am getting issues with performance when I try to execute this query. Given below the query and it is going for a full table scan. I think the problem is with the between clause. But I dont know how to resolve this issue
    SELECT psm.member_id
    FROM pre_stg_member psm
    WHERE psm.map_tran_agn BETWEEN :start_transaction_agn and :end_transaction_agn
    and psm.partition_key = :p_partition_key;
    Having composite index on map_tran_agn and partition_key.
    Please help me in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Swami

    Please consider the following when you post a question.
    1. New features keep coming in every oracle version so please provide Your Oracle DB Version to get the best possible answer.
    You can use the following query and do a copy past of the output.
    select * from v$version 2. This forum has a very good Search Feature. Please use that before posting your question. Because for most of the questions
    that are asked the answer is already there.
    3. We dont know your DB structure or How your Data is. So you need to let us know. The best way would be to give some sample data like this.
    I have the following table called sales
    with sales
    as
          select 1 sales_id, 1 prod_id, 1001 inv_num, 120 qty from dual
          union all
          select 2 sales_id, 1 prod_id, 1002 inv_num, 25 qty from dual
    select *
      from sales 4. Rather than telling what you want in words its more easier when you give your expected output.
    For example in the above sales table, I want to know the total quantity and number of invoice for each product.
    The output should look like this
    Prod_id   sum_qty   count_inv
    1         145       2 5. When ever you get an error message post the entire error message. With the Error Number, The message and the Line number.
    6. Next thing is a very important thing to remember. Please post only well formatted code. Unformatted code is very hard to read.
    Your code format gets lost when you post it in the Oracle Forum. So in order to preserve it you need to
    use the {noformat}{noformat} tags.
    The usage of the tag is like this.
    <place your code here>\
    7. If you are posting a *Performance Related Question*. Please read
       {thread:id=501834} and {thread:id=863295}.
       Following those guide will be very helpful.
    8. Please keep in mind that this is a public forum. Here No question is URGENT.

    I've a below tables.

    ONL category needs 100 points. If it don't have enough points then i need to borrow from OFL category which i'm doing and populating into tbl_summary table at parent profile level.

    Need Output as below :
    For parent profile 1, whatever i mentioned above is not correct. Borrowed 47 points from OFL to ONL to make ONL and also from OFL category has 176 points remaining after lending to ONL and using only 100 points, remaining 76 points are discarded. Need to deduct these 76 points also from child profiles. Output will be as below.
    PARENT_PROFILE_ID  PROFILE_ID  CATGCODE  EARNED_POINTS  BORROWED_POINTS  CERT_POINTS  DISCARD_POINTS  USED  BURN_PTS  EXPIRE_PTS
    1                  1           ONL       53             47               100          0               100   -53       0

    1                  14          OFL       110            0                176          76              100   -47       -63
    For parent profile id 2 --> ONL category has 39 points, so borrowed 61 points from OFL category to make ONL points 100.
                                Now need to populate tbl_link table at child profile level (i.e. child profiles 22,23,24).
    Borrowed 61 points from OFL and need to deduct this points from the profile which has highest earned points, in this case deduct from profile 24 which has 31 points, from profile 22 which has 30 points. Need output like below
    PARENT_PROFILE_ID  PROFILE_ID  CATGCODE  EARNED_POINTS  BORROWED_POINTS  CERT_POINTS  DISCARD_POINTS  USED  BURN_PTS  EXPIRE_PTS

    For parent profile id 3 --> ONL category has 109 points, so no need to borrow points from OFL category
                                Now need to populate tbl_link table at child profile level (i.e. child profiles 32,33,34).
    in this case ONL has 100 points, so move the remaining 9 points will be expired. OFL category has 223 points total. need only 200 points (i.e. mutiple of 100) for our process, 23 points will be expired and has to deduct from the profile which has highest earned points, in this case from profile 34. Output :
    PARENT_PROFILE_ID  PROFILE_ID  CATGCODE  EARNED_POINTS  BORROWED_POINTS  CERT_POINTS  DISCARD_POINTS  USED  BURN_PTS  EXPIRE_PTS

    For parent profile id 4 --> ONL category has 109 points, so no need to borrow points from OFL category
                                Now need to populate tbl_link table at child profile level (i.e. child profiles 42,43,44).
    in this case ONL has 100 points, so move the remaining 9 points will be expired. OFL category has 169 points total. need only 100 points (i.e. mutiple of 100) for our process, 69 points will be expired and has to deduct from the profile which has highest earned points, in this case from profile 43. Output :

Output :

                                Now need to populate tbl_link table at child profile level (i.e. child profiles 42,43,44).
    in this case ONL has 100 points, so move the remaining 9 points will be expired. OFL category has 169 points total. need only 100 points (i.e. mutiple of 100) for our process, 69 points will be expired and has to deduct from the profile which has highest earned points, in this case from profile 43. Output :

    Can someone help with the query. I googled about looping in sql and came to know that Oracle has a feature MODEL to loop in SQL, but i don't have idea on using MODEL clause.
    Appreciate your help!

  • How to Use SQL Query having IN Clause With DB Adapter

    Hi,
    I am using 11.1.1.5 want to find out how to Use SQL Query having IN Clause With DB Adapter. I want to pass the IN values dynamically. Any ideas.
    Thanks

    invoke a stored procedure, it's safer than trying to put together an arbitrary SQL statement in the JCA adapter

  • WITH Clause query doesn't work in Oracle Reports.

    Hi Gurus,
    I'm using a WITH clause query and need to build a report using the same query.
    But when i'm trying to build a report, query is giving error as "WITH clause table or view doesn't exists".
    But the same query perfectly works in sql prompt.
    Oracle Reports doesn't supports WITH clause query?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Onkar

    I ran into a similar problem before and worked around it by moving the query to a pipelined function in the database as described at WITH clause unexpectedly causes ORA-00942 in Reports Builder
    Hope this helps.

  • How to use "with clause query" in DBadapter

    Hi all,
    I need to implement a "with clause" query in oracle soa 11g bpel. When i put the query in db adapter in pure sql, the schema is not getting generated properly. Can any one suggest a solution to my problem.
    Regards,
    Kaushik

    Pure SQL won't work because it is expecting the first word in the SQL to be SELECT (or INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE).
    If your query is WITH ... SELECT ...
    try this:
    delete everything before SELECT. Copy and paste the generated XSD to another window. The SQL test may fail, but that will just mean that it couldn't fill in the types of the columns in the SELECT ... FROM list. You can always do that yourself by hand editing the XSD (including in the wizard before you hit next). Then put back the WITH ... clause before the remaining SELECT .... If the XSD gets overwritten, copy the version you saved in the other window and paste it over top. Then hit next and the runtime should still work.
    Keep in mind that SQL is very complex and hard to fully parse in the UI. However the minimum information the DbAdapter needs is quite limited; basically just the name and number of columns that are coming back. The XSD is meant to be editable in the wizard if the SQL is too complex.
    Thanks
    Steve

  • From Clause query with form variables

    forms 9.0.4 rdbms 9.2
    Is it possible to create a From Clause query with form variables generated from another block (but in the same form)? I am not having any success.
    I searched Metalink. It appears that according to DOC ID # 69884.1, in Forms 6i, this is not possible. Metalink suggest in DOC ID 104771.1 implementating a dynamic From Clause, but when I duplicate the example on my system, I receive an Oracle error. Further investigation from the web form (DISPLAY ERROR) indicates that the system does not see the dynamic value.
    Has anyone else run into this error? Has this been fixed in forms 9.0.4 and I am just missing something? Does a dynamic from clause query work? Can anyone point me to an example or post an example or offer any advise.
    thanks in advance

    As far as I know it is not possible to use block items in a from clause query in forms 9.0.4. Here is my solution for a From-Clause-Query via the 'Query-Data-Source-Name-Property':
    To use the values of the block items in my from clause query I implemented a database package with getter and setter routines for the block item values I needed for the query.
    In the Key-Exeqry-Trigger of the From-Clause-Query-Block I set the global package variables with values of the block-items I am interested in. In the From-Clause-Query I used the values in the where-clause via package functions which return the global package variables.
    Hope my solution will work for your problem.

  • Changing DEFAULT_WHERE of a FROM CLAUSE Query (with group by)

    I have a Data Block of type FROM CLAUSE Query.
    The Data Source Name is
    SELECT A2.NAME,A2.EMPLOYEEID,A1.ORGID,A1.FSCLYEARID,A1.STATUS,COUNT(*) AS COUNTER
    FROM S_PLC10300 A1,S_PLC50200 A2
    WHERE A1.EMPLOYEEID=A2.EMPLOYEEID
    GROUP BY A1.ORGID,A1.FSCLYEARID,A1.STATUS,A1.EMPLOYEEID,A2.NAME,A2.EMPLOYEEID
    I have a Query Area with text items which i use to change the DEFAULT_WHERE Property.
    My problem is that i can' t put in the DEFAULT_WHERE a field that doesn't belong to the SELECT Clause. Is there a way to achieve this?
    Maybe changing the whole Data Source Name at runtime ?
    Thanks

    As I said i have a block with FROM clause query:
    SELECT A1.ORGID,A1.FSCLYEARID,A1.STATUS, A1.EMPLOYEEID, A2.NAME,A2.EMPLOYEEID
    FROM S_PLC10300 A1,S_PLC50200 A2
    WHERE A1.EMPLOYEEID=A2.EMPLOYEEID
    GROUP BY A1.ORGID,A1.FSCLYEARID,A1.STATUS,A1.EMPLOYEEID,A2.NAME,A2.EMPLOYEEID
    i use the following code:
    set_block_property(BLOCK,DEFAULT_WHERE,'A1.TRNSDATE>=:QUERY_BLOCK.TRNDATE);
    What i think the code will do is change the FROM Clause Query to:
    SELECT ... WHERE A1.EMPLOYEEID=A2.EMPLOYEEID AND A1.TRNSDATE>=:QUERY_BLOCK.TRNDATE
    GROUP BY ...
    A1.TRNSDATE is a valid field of table A1.
    I can' t add TRNSDATE to my SELECT clause because i will have to add it to the GROUP BY clause.
    Hope i made more sense this time.
    Thanks

    - Block A based on table
    - Block B based on FROM clause query
    In WHEN-NEW-RECORD-INSTANCE of block A, I perform a SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY('BLOCK_B','QUERY_DATA_SOURCE_NAME','(...)'); and then query block B (... depends on value taken by 'code' column in block A).
    At runtime it works till 'code' does not change (query_data_source_name does not change) but when I navigate to a record having a different 'code', it got the folowing message :
    41380 - Cannot set the blocks query data source.
    Any idea or suggestion ?

    Hello all i m trying dynamically change query_data_source_name but its not working.
    i did the followings
    Forms(10g2) block level:Query_data_source_type
    Query_data_source_name:SELECT 1,2,3,4,5 FROM dual;
    in control Block:
    when_button_press my code is
    GO_BLOCK('blk_query');
    Clear_Block(No_Validate);
    set_block_property('blk_query',query_data_source_name,
    'SELECT col1,col2,col3,col4,col5 FROM mytable');
    execute_query;
    same result:unable to query error.
    any one can help me regarding this issue.

  • Master detail with from clause query

    Hi!
    I have 2 blocks: master and detail. The master block is based on a from clause query. Since I have to insert, update and delete on this block I have created the on-insert, on-update, on-delete and on-lock triggers (and the respective procedures).
    In this block I have on-populate-details and pre-delete triggers created by the master-detail relation.
    Now I have a problem!
    Since I only want to commit to db when I click the "ok" button and I want to insert and delete records from these 2 blocks, when I insert records into the detail block (and master too), it forces me to save changes if I change the focus of the current record of de master block to another record within the same block.
    How can I do this in order to insert records saving changes only when I click the button?
    Thanks!
    Ana

    I think that it is intended behaviour: when detail records are populated and there are uncommited changes so Forms asks if user wants to save changes.

  • Block with query data source tipe: from clause query

    I have a block that have this property.
    But now I want to change data.
    Do you know how to do it?

    A from clause query does what is says: it can only query data. For DML operations use Table/Procedure.

  • Function-based index with OR in the wher-clause

    We have some problems with functin-based indexes and
    the or-condition in a where-clause.
    --We use Oracle 8i (8.1.7)
    create table TPERSON(ID number(10),NAME varchar2(20),...);
    create index I_NORMAL_TPERSON_NAME on TPERSON(NAME);
    create index I_FUNCTION_TPERSON_NAME on TPERSON(UPPER(NAME));
    The following two statements run very fast on a large table
    and the execution-plan asure the usage of the indexes
    (-while the session is appropriate configured and the table is analyzed):
    1)     select count(ID) FROM TPERSON where upper(NAME) like 'MIL%';
    2)     select count(ID) from TPERSON where NAME like 'Mil%' or (3=5);
    In particular we see that a normal index is used while the where-clause contains
    an OR-CONDITION.
    But if we try the similarly select-statement
    3)     select count(ID) FROM TPERSON where upper(NAME) like 'MIL%' or (3=5);
    the CBO will not use the function-index I_FUNCTION_TPERSON_NAME and we have a full table scan in the execution-plan.
    (This behavior we only expect with views but not with indexes.)
    We ask for an advice like a hint, which enable the CBO-usage
    of function-based indexes in connection with OR.
    This problem seems to be artificial because it contains this dummy logic:
         or (3=5).
    This steams from an prepared statement, where this kind of boolean
    flag reduce the amount of different select-statements needed for
    covering the hole business-logic, while using bind-variables for the
    concrete query-parameters.
    A more realistic (still boild down) version of our select-statement is:
    select * FROM TPERSON
    where (upper(NAME) like 'MIL%' or (NAME is null))
    and (upper(FIRSTNAME) like 'MICH% or (FIRSTNAME is null))
    and ...;
    thank you for time..

    In the realistic statement you write :
    select * FROM TPERSON
    where (upper(NAME) like 'MIL%' or (NAME is null))
    and (upper(FIRSTNAME) like 'MICH% or (FIRSTNAME is null))
    and ...;
    as far as i know, NULL values are not indexed, "or (NAME is NULL)" have to generate a full table scan.

    Be careful; post the code you're actually running.
    query 1: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where trunc(fdate) = trunc(sysdate);
    query 2: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where fdate between trunc(sysdate) and trunc(SYSDATE) + .99999;

    My questions:
    1) Why isn't the index t_indx used in Execution plan 1?To use an index, the indexed column must stand alone as one of the operands. If you had a function-based index on TRUNC (fdate), then it might be used in Query 1, because the left operand of = is TRUNC (fdate).
    2) From the execution plan, I see that query 2 & 3 is better than query 1. I do not see any difference between execution plan 2 & 3. Which one is better?That depends on what you mean by "better".
    If "better" means faster, you've already shown that one is about as good as the other.
    Queries 2 and 3 are doing different things. Assuming the table stays the same, Query 2 may give different results every day, but the results of Query 3 will never change.
    For clarity, I prefer:
    WHERE     fdate >= TRUNC (SYSDATE)
    AND     fdate <  TRUNC (SYSDATE) + 1(or replace SYSDATE with a TO_DATE expression, depending on the requirements).
    3) I read somewhere - "Always check the Access Predicates and Filter Predicates of Explain Plan carefully to determine which columns are contributing to a Range Scan and which columns are merely filtering the returned rows. Be sceptical if the same clause is shown in both."
    Is that true for Execution plan 2 & 3?

  • Report with multiplying columns  and WITH clause

    Hello
    I saw sth strange in my report. I assume that it could happens very often.
    I have report with few columns which two of them ar most complicated (many joins subqueries aggreagations on joined values etc.) These two columns (i.e C3,C4) should be multiplied (C3*C4).
    When i do pure report without multiplying only columns C1,C2,C3,C4 everything is ok - duration about 15 sec. but... when I put next column on report which multiply these columns (in Answers C5=C3*C4)
    I wait 3-4 minutes and my database hungs :(. After investigation I saw that in first case to databese goes pure "SELECT" statement it means:
    "Select ... as C1, ... as C2, max(...) as C3, sum(xxx)... C4 from yyy,sss,ttt WHERE aaa"
    but in second case BI uses WITH clause it means:
    WITH SAWITH0 AS
    ( Select ... as C1, ... as C2, max(...) as C3, sum(xxx)... C4 from yyy,sss,ttt WHERE aaa )
    SELECT SAWITH0.C1 as C1,
    SAWITH0.C2 as C2,
         SAWITH0.C3 as C3,
         SAWITH0.C4 as C4,
         SAWITH0.C3*SAWITH0.C4 as C5 FROM SSS
    and this statement is long runninq query and kills my database :(.
    I checked that SQL like this:
    Select ... as C1, ... as C2, max(...) as C3, sum(xxx)... C4, max(...)*sum(xxx)... As C5 from yyy,sss,ttt WHERE aaa" -
    runs few times faster than that above
    I know that I can do this multiply in business model layer but sometimes users can multiply(or other operations) on columns in reports without my knowledge and it kills my db :(. Where is bug? Why SQLs with WITH clause takes so much db time?
    Thank you for each kind of help

    WITH clause or Subquery Factoring allows the set of data to be reused multiple times within the SQL. Oracle will usually materialize the data into a temporary table (you will see it if you take an explain plan of the SQL).
    I would be surprised if it was the actual WITH clause that was causing the performance issue, however you can test this by turning the WITH clause feature off. Go to the Physical model, right mouse click on your Database > Properties > Features Tab, scroll down to WITH_CLAUSE_SUPPORTED and switch it off.
    I'd be interested to know if you do see actual improvement.
    Good Luck.
