Without touching the keyboard or the mouse, Firefox opens up 5 times, each in a new window.

I turned on my computer this morning and while it was booting up I went to do other things in the house. When I returned, five windows of Mozilla Firefox had opened up and I hadn't touched the keyboard. I closed them out, did what I needed to do on the computer briefly, and then left my desktop as is. When I looked over, they had opened again. And, just now five windows of firefox just opened up, WHILE I was typing! Is there anyway I can fix this?

hello rhart13, this sounds strange - firefox hasn't any built-in functionality to start itself... could you run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] and see if these come back clean?

  • Customize interface without touching the source code

My VP of of marketing is at it again. I have pasted in the exact email that he sent me. If anyone has ideas or suggestions or knows if Forms 9i has this built-in capability, please let me know.
    Thanks.
Can you post this on metalink and see if someone at Oracle (or elsewhere) has an answer for us? Somehow, other LIMS developers are distributing LIMS products that allow their users to customize the interface without touching the source code -- no impact on their ability to take new releases. How do they do that?
    Here's my question:
Anyone familiar with the Tools / Forms / Design this Form feature in MS Outlook? This allows a mere mortal to actually create and publish a custom Outlook form (could be a Contact, Task, Note, Journal, etc. form) across the organization. Is there such a capability built into Oracle9i Forms? In other words, can a developer easily build and distribute an Oracle software app such that the end-user can use an administrative tool to modify the interface/forms, add fields, change field names, move things around on the form, change colors, etc. -- without needing the Oracle Developer tool used by the original software developer, along with source code?
Here's my original email from a few months ago:
Our VP of marketing has been on my case about the ability to allow customers to "map" a form label (prompt) to a "custom" label of their choosing. The only way I know to do this is to create a "mapping" table and each time a form opens have code in the Post-Query trigger that changes the prompt of each column to the label that is in the "mapper" table. My fear here is Performance. Also, if the user closes that form and comes back to it - that logic has to be executed again - once again Performance. We have thought about the global variable idea, but we have over 100 tables with approx. 20 columns each. That's alot of globals to carry around. What's the overhead of carring around let's say 150 global variables?
My questions to all of you are:
    1) Is anyone else doing this exact thing?
    2) If so, what is the performance hit?
    3) Is there a way to "remember" after the first time it paints - until the application is closed (not just that form) - other than global variables?
    4) Is there a solution already in place within Forms for this?
    5) Is there newer technology that has overcome this problem?
My VP doesn't like the mapping idea. He wants to know isn't there a better way instead of mapping all the fields. Isn't there some simple utility provided by Oracle that allows the user to simply change the form labels (no, he's not talking about Oracle Developer). He is a real Outlook nut. So he's always comparing everything to how Outlook works. This is how it works in Outlook -- you click on Design Form, modify it, then install it on the machine. Surely Oracle must have something like this. He thinks we're asking the wrong question or not asking it in the right way. I'm not sure how else to ask it. Our users want to see "Date of Birth" spelled out instead of "DOB" as the label for a column on a form. Is there a way for them to take the fmx and change that label? Is there a better way other than storing this in a table and querying it up each time the form opens? Yes, I could use a global so I don't have to query it from the database every time, but I still have to evaluate every time the form is opened during that session to see which label I need to use and then set the prompt accordingly. Our VP doesn't like this, he wants this to be a one time change.
Thanks so much for you help,
    Tina

Hmmm.... either your VP of marketing or the users have too much time on their hands. ;-)
I would go with a lookup table. If your database is responsive and you index the table by form name, you can retrieve a number of rows and setup the screen quickly enough that nobody would notice any time lag.
If there aren't too many titles stored in the form, you could use a PLL library procedure and stuff all of them into a few globals -- just stack them into a single string separated by an odd character, like maybe chr(3). Then when the form is called again, it could first check to see if the globals exist, and parse the titles from there.
But be careful about changing field titles. If they change DOB to Date of Birth, the length changes, and so you need to determine where the extra length goes. The title field must be wide enough and the text justification should be set properly.

  • How to dismiss the spelling dialogue without using the mouse

I'd appreciate the right tip from anyone on how to dismiss the spelling dialogue in Mail without using the mouse. (I'm one of those guys who likes to use the keyboard as much as possible.) Here's the scenario:
I open a new message in Mail, type my text, press Cmd-Shift-D, then (because I have it set to check spelling when I "click send") up pops the spelling dialogue. That's fine as far as it goes, but many times I don't need any corrections because either I don't care or because the words are fine but just not recognized by Mail. So until now what I do is use the mouse to click on the far left one of the three round buttons in the upper left corner of the dialogue. I would like not to have to use the mouse, but pressing Esc or any other keys I try doesn't work to make it go away.
    Your advice is welcome! Thanks.

Well, that window is actually a floating window, which means that it is meant to hang around. Notice that if you move Mail to the background (without hiding it), the spelling window hides itself, then shows itself again when you bring Mail back to the front. Floating windows are kind of in their own little world, meant to float above windows while not interfering with keystrokes sent to the frontmost window.
I would argue that it shouldn't be a floater, because nobody's going to want it around once they're done checking spelling. But that's kind of a matter of opinion, and obviously Mail's designers thought differently.
BTW, in the course of writing this, I discovered something -- if you click in the spelling window, so that you could type in the field there, Command-W will actually close the floater. But, of course, that still requires a click in the window with the mouse.

  • Is it possible to highlight text without using the mouse?

I would like to apply the comment/highlight tool in Acrobat without using the mouse.
I select text with shift + cursor. What is the quickest way of highlighting the selected text then? I do not want to use the mouse.
From the programme help I learned that the keyboard shortcut U selects the highlighting tool. But it does not apply highlighting to text selected with the cursor.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply Dave, but I want to know if a pop-up has to be created internally when highlighting. Can you disable to sticky note part of the highlight?
Here's an example: I highlight my college books and don't need all those pop-ups being made behind the scenes. In Acrobat X, all of my highlights would slow down the program immensely,
thankfully in XI, it doesn't happen at all, nor do I want it to in the future. Thank you for your time.

  • Why does the curser move across desktop without touching the track pad?

The curser has started to move across the screen without touching the track pad. There's no mouse connected. All networking connections are turned off. As the curser moves across the desktop, it opens new folders??? It will open as many as a dozen new folders before it stops at the left side of the screen and wouldn't you know it, the warranty expired last month! Any help to figure out a fix would be appreciated.

  • Without touching the JSP file

    Hi,
I just want to set a text in my browser with bold face from my
    begin....Display method. say <B>Back></B>.
Since i decalare this as a text and using .setvalue() i'm getting it
    as it is(i.e <B>back</B> in browser o/p.
Can u suggest me the solution ?
Todd, thanks for ur previous suggestion.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Vidyasankar.

I'm not sure, but I assume what you're indicating is that you're getting
back literally "<B>Back</B>" in the rendered browser text (meaning the HTML
source is "<B&rt;Back</B&rt;"). If so, it's because you need to set
the "escape" attribute to false for the text field:
    <jato:text name="FooText" escape="false"/>

  • TS3048 Help! I sometimes spend many minutes filling in forms on my Mac, touch the mouse and it all disappears. It happens very frequently. What do I do?

Help! I sometimes spend many minutes filling in forms or writing something on my Mac, only to have it erased as soon as I touch the mouse, which is wireless. I have replaced batteries, checked connections, etc. Don't know what else to do. Can anyone help?

    Try
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Safari 6.0 page zooms in (even if I'm not touching the mouse) how do I zoom back out?

Safari 6.0 page zooms in (even if I'm not touching the mouse) how do I zoom back out?

I turned off zoom in sys pref so hopefully that will help… but when it zooms in huge "on its own" you have to use the back button to go back to normal size as the double tap doesn't work but half the time the back button is greyed out so you have to close the window and start all over which is a pain in the … so why is my back button doing this. It will do this on a page that I used the backbutton on previously?

  • After a few minutes, the page down won't work without clicking the mouse pointer on the page I am reading to activate page down again. Is there a way to go back to page down working every time without having to click the page first?

    Question
After a few minutes, the page down won't work without clicking the mouse pointer on the page I am reading to activate page down again. Is there a way to go back to page down working every time without having to click the page first?

Today, two other users reported issues with the back-forward history list dropping down if they hovered the mouse pointer over the back or forward button -- without clicking -- and then moved the pointer downwards. One user was on a touchpad, I don't know about the other user. Are you experiencing anything like that?

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • What could be causing my iMac Intel to reboot when I touch the mouse???

This problem has existed for most of the time we've had our Intel iMac since June 2006 and it's been worse recently. We'll come to the computer which has the screen dimmed and touch the mouse to make the screen wake and it just restarts. It's like the "wake from sleep" and "restart" are somehow wired together. It doesn't happen everytime and I thought it might be from SuperDuper because the iMac is generally connected to a GTech 500GB drive for daily backups. But, after unplugging the drive it's still happening. I'm not sure if there is software that can help me diagnose this problem as I've dealt with it before. I've done all the usuals like repair permissions, repair disk, ensure I have all the latest versions of software, rebuild desktop with Disk Warrior, optimize and repair with TechToolsPro, yadda, yadda, yadda. None of these has made any measurable difference in this randomly annoying problem that is just getting on my nerves enough to post on the discussions
Anyone have any thoughts about how to proceed evaluating this further or could point me to some suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks much!

I thought more about your issue after my last reply and the only other thing that came to mind was the logic board or power supply problem.
Try running the Apple Hardware Test, it may or may not find an intermittent power problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
Your best bet is to take the iMac in to your local Apple Service Provider or Apple Store and have them test it. If you purchased Apple Care with your iMac then all testing and repairs will be covered.
