WLS 10, pitchfork & Spring

Christian shows us how to get access to the appContext within EJB3's with WLS 9 and pitchfork in the following post.
http://springide.org/blog/2006/05/24/implementing-jee-with-spring-and-weblogic/
In the comments, however, he says on Jun 11, 2007 that
"Yes, I tested the example, but it didn’t work [in WLS 10.0]. There is a way to enable advanced Spring features in Bea WebLogic 10 (including AOP support), but this is not public right now and definitely not yet supported by BEA. Stay tuned for an upcoming BEA announcement."
My questions is:
Should we use the Spring abstract EJB base classes and ContextJndiBeanFactoryLocator/ContextSingletonBeanFactoryLocator to access the applicationContext in our EJB3's in WLS 10? There is at least 1 post on the Spring forum saying that this support is only for EJB2 (http://forum.springframework.org/showthread.php?t=47338).
Thanks for any help,

Thanks for your reply.
Hmmm interesting.
We have 4 servers with WLS 10.3.1. - they were all installed using the package installer with 32bit JVM/s. They were all configured to use the included 32bit JRockit; so the JVM being used by WLS is the same for all servers. The only difference between environments is that 3 are on Win08 SP2 and 1 is on Win08 SP1.
My original post incorrectly states that the oddity was occuring with SP1 - in fact of the 4 servers the one on SP1 is reporting the OS correct and the 3 on SP2 are reporting the OS wrong.
I checked the logs both on one SP2 server and on the SP1 server: both logs have
os.arch = x86
os.name = Windows Vista
So "all" of the servers have that log entry with the OS wrong, but as stated the SP1 WLS reports the OS correctly in the Servers/Monitoring section of the console.
Ignoring the misreporting in the log entry the law of differences would suggest maybe it's something to do with Win08 SP2 vs SP1 ???
Or some weird combination because we also have WLS 10.3.2. with 32bit JRockit, one on Win08 SP1 and one on Win08 SP2 - they "both" report the OS correctly both in the log and via the servers monitoring page.

  • Integration of Weblogic Server 10.3 and Spring 2.5

    Hello.
    I read that Weblogic 10.3 supports a Spring extension which allows Web component creation using Spring framework.
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/programming/spring.html#wp1079570
    Has anybody tried this?
    In particuar, documentation says:
    "Enable the Spring extension by setting the <component-factory-class-name> element to org.springframework.jee.interfaces.SpringComponentFactory. This element exists in EJB, Web, and application descriptors."
    Which descriptor for a Web application? web.xml? weblogic.xml? I tried both but I received validation errors.
    Can anyone explain this part a little better?
    Regards
    Davide

    I've been trying to get this to work... No luck as of yet...
    My problem now is that I get this exception when I don't have pitchfork-1.0-m5.jar on the my domains classpath.

  • Spring 2.5.5 and EJB 3.0 Deployment problem in WLS 10.3

    Hi,
    I am attempting to deploy a EAR file that previously ran on SJSAS 9.1 update 1 to WLS 10.3. As part of the deployment I get the following error related to the EJB3 classes.
    There are 1 nested errors: weblogic.j2ee.dd.xml.AnnotationProcessException: [EJB:015002]Unable to load class au.edu.cqu.cis.web.ajaxservice.AjaxServicesBean in Jar D:\dev\env\oracle\middleware\jdeveloper\system\system11.1.1.0.31.51.56\DefaultDomain\servers\DefaultServer\tmp\_WL_user\ProgEnrol-ear-3\v540rk\ProgEnrol-ejb-3.0.4-SNAPSHOT.jar : java.lang.ArrayStoreException: sun.reflect.annotation.TypeNotPresentExceptionProxy
    I suspect that this is related to the @Autowired spring annotation in use in the session bean. Either, the server is not finding the Spring JAR correctly or it has a problem with the annotation.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction? Do I need to deploy the spring jar as a library?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Graeme.

    Hi, Graeme.
    Seems there is an existing CR on something related from v10.0: CR353213
    * WLS 10.0 - EJB 3.0 deployment fails when parsing class for Stateless annotation
    According to http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/issues/known_resolved.html, this is not addressed in 10.3
    Closely review your classpath, and then (assuming you have access to the source) review the body of your ejb. If it is related to this CR, you may be able to workaround the issue by shortening the body and split large methods into more sub-methods.
    I hope this helps,

  • Deployment of SCA composite with Spring and JPA fails on WLS 10.3.3

    Hi,
    We want to use JPA as Persistence Layer (EclipseLink as Persistence Provider) in a Spring managed Bean in a SOA Composite (SCA).
    We configured our persistence.xml and spring configuration as described below.
    We are using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3 and WLS 10.3.3 with SOA Suite 11.1.1.3.
    The Deployment fails with the following Exception
    +Could not instantiate bean class [org.springframework.instrument.classloading.weblogic.WebLogicLoadTimeWeaver]: Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not initialize WebLogic ClassLoader because WebLogic 10 API classes are not available+
    We are not sure how to deal with the "WebLogic 10 API classes are not available" message. Is there a lib we have to add to the SCA composite or do we have to change the WLS configuration somehow?
    We already tried a lot of configurations of persistence.xml and spring but nothing worked so far.

    Hi Vlad, Kalyan
    Thanks for the response. Actually i am not planning to configure weblogic SIP... as it may need little insight. I just created domain including everything.
    Now i have created a new domain with basic functionality with default configuration. Now everything is working fine. I can see the Admin console as well.
    But i have stuck up in running the EM console. Below is the CMD prompt trace.

  • Spring kit download

    Hello All,
    I had a few query regarding spring in WLS.
    1> I'm trying to expose some spring beans as MBeans to the admin console but I don't quite succeed.
    I've followed the steps from the http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/pdf/programming.pdf (Spring applications reference part) so I can see the all the beans in the spring framework tab of the admin console but all of them are just read only. I would like to be able to get and set values to (some of) them, so I would like to export them as MBeans. According to the documentation: "To access spring beans that are not MBeans through the WebLogic Administration Console, you must configure an MBeanExporter in the applicationContext.xml file and specify which beans to expose via the assembler. Make sure that the applicationName property is the deployed name of your application."
    I've tried to use the exporter but somehow it does not work. Unfortunately the old pitchfork files and example apps are no more available at commerce.bea.com and on the otn I couldn't find them. Is there any version of them or another working example for WL 10.3?
    2> http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/pdf/programming.pdf says : “To demonstrate the ways in which Spring can take advantage of WebLogic Server’s enterprise features, Oracle redesigned the Avitek Medical Records sample application (MedRec) to replace core J2EE components with Spring components” But I don’t see the \samples\domains\medrec contains anything spring.
    Moreover all the links in http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/dev2arch/2008/07/spring.html  leads to our old http://commerce.bea.com/showproduct.jsp?family=SPRING&major=2.0.2&minor=0 for “Downloading the Spring on WebLogic Kit”.
    /ed

    I've read your post a few times now, and still am confused about ow this relates to downloading an Oracle product.
    I THINK you are asking for programming help. And that implies you are asking for help about a product. Specific WLS, which I interpret as Web Logic Server (one of several hundred products from Oracle).
    If that is correct, and you are not experiencing a problem obtaining the product, you might be bbetter off asking the question again in a forum where people discuss the product. For example, the Web Logic Server forum is at WebLogic Server - General
    An alternate way to get to that forum is: http://forums.oracle.com - and scroll down or use the browser's search capability to find 'WebLogic Server'.

  • Weblogic 10.3.0 managed server + Spring Framework slow startup

    Hello
    Iam running weblogic 10.3.0 plus an application using spring framework on this:
    java.runtime.name = Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment
    java.runtime.version = 1.6.0_20-b02
    java.specification.name = Java Platform API Specification
    java.specification.vendor = Sun Microsystems Inc.
    java.specification.version = 1.6
    java.vendor = Oracle Corporation
    java.version = 1.6.0_20
    java.vm.info = compiled mode
    java.vm.name = Oracle JRockit(R)
    os.arch = amd64
    os.name = Windows 2003
    os.version = 5.2
    sun.arch.data.model = 64
    sun.io.unicode.encoding = UnicodeLittle
    sun.jnu.encoding = Cp1252
    sun.management.compiler = Oracle JRockit(R) Optimizing Compiler
    sun.os.patch.level = Service Pack 2
    Problem Description: A weblogic managed server is taking more than an hour to start, the delay is due to the deployments during startup, passing from STATE_PREPARED to STATE_ADMIN and to the initialization of the Spring root WebApplicationContex, which takes an avg of 7 mins per module deployed.
    I have a development server with the same application which starts in a few minutes, the only difference between the environments are tha the development server runs in 32bits.
    Any help will be appreciated

    OK, so I've done as you suggested:
    Created a dynamic web project (Test), and compared its .settings contents with the contents of my existing project (IrisApp).
    Based on the above, I've changed my projects .setting to the following:

    Eclipse also seems to create the following directory which is mentioned in one of the above configs, so I've manually added this directory to the root of IrisApp project: /.apt_src. It's empty.
    I noticed that Eclipse created several directories once the project in cleaned (I guess, as those directories were not in svn when I get my copy): WebContent with some -INF subdirectories and metafiles in them. So I just removed this structure.
    As for WebLogic.jar in my classpath you mentioned, I need that for the project to compile, there are some HttpServletRequest's etc.
    I've also added WLS 9.2 'Targeted Runtime' to IrisApp which seemed to have created an additional directory in the workspace with the following structure and contents:
    1. .project file
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <projectDescription>
         <name>Servers</name>
         <comment></comment>

         <buildSpec>
         </buildSpec>
         <natures>
         </natures>
    </projectDescription>
    2. BEA WebLogic Server v9.2 at localhost.server file
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <server IGNORE_COMPILER_ERRORS="false" auto-publish-setting="2" auto-publish-time="15" hostname="localhost" id="BEA WebLogic Server v9.2 at localhost" name="BEA WebLogic Server v9.2 at localhost" runtime-id="BEA WebLogic Server v9.2" server-type="com.bea.wlw.server92" server-type-id="com.bea.wlw.server92" start-timeout="3480" stop-timeout="240" timestamp="22" weblogic_domain_path="C:\CDE\user_projects\domains\MyDomain" weblogic_host_name="localhost" weblogic_is_remote="false" weblogic_port="7001" weblogic_use_bootprop="true" weblogic_use_config_xml="true">
    <list key="modules" value0="IrisApp::org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.server:IrisApp::jst.web::2.4"/>
    </server>
    3. .settings directory
    with the following file in it:
    3a. org.eclipse.wst.server.core.prefs file:
    #Mon Sep 14 12:45:04 EDT 2009
    org.eclipse.wst.server.core.isServerProject=true
    eclipse.preferences.version=1
    So, with the above setup, I'm now trying to deploy it to WLS and getting the following exception:
    <Sep 14, 2009 4:52:00 PM EDT> <Error> <HTTP> <BEA-101163> <Could not load user defined listener: com.citi.gdos.smart.app.listener.SmartContextLoaderListener

    I can see spring.jar on my classpath so I'm not sure what it's complaining about.
    The team hear is using MyEclipse with all the configurations cheched into Subversion but there's no more licenses so I need to configure Eclipse to achieve the same task. It would help if you could point me to some documentation as to what's happenning internally as I'm sure I'll get lots of questions from other developers later once it's all configured. Please let me know if I need to share any additional info for you to be able to help.
    Could you please point me in the right direction?
    Thank you very much!

  • WLS 9.2 - How to create and use a WorkManager through commonj?

    My goal is simple. I want to define a custom Work Manager at the application level which an MDB uses as it's dispatch policy and I can directly access with a commonj WorkManager. I have been reading through the WLS 9.2 PDFs but so far I have not been able to get this to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
    weblogic-application.xml
    This appears to work. I can see the work manager via the weblogic console.
    <work-manager>
        <name>MyWorkManager</name>
        <response-time-request-class>
            <name>MyResponseTimeGoal</name>
            <goal-ms>1000</goal-ms>
        </response-time-request-class>
        <min-threads-constraint>
            <name>MyMinThreads</name>
            <count>20</count>
        </min-threads-constraint>
        <ignore-stuck-threads>false</ignore-stuck-threads>
    </work-manager>
    MDB Annotations
    The idea here is to have the MDB using the MyWorkManager work manager and have a commonj WorkManager available via JNDI which maps to MyWorkManager. I can tell that the MDB is using the custom work manager by looking at the request count of the work manager in the weblogic console after running some tests.
    It doesn't seem that the resource reference is working at all through. The JNDI lookup of MyWorkManager always fails.
    @MessageDriven(
            maxBeansInFreePool = "20",
            destinationType = "javax.jms.Queue",
            initialBeansInFreePool = "20",
            defaultTransaction = MessageDriven.DefaultTransaction.NOT_SUPPORTED,
            ejbName = "MyMessageBean",
            destinationJndiName = "jms/MyQueue",
            acknowledgeMode = MessageDriven.AcknowledgeMode.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE,
            transactionType = MessageDriven.MessageDrivenTransactionType.CONTAINER,
            dispatchPolicy = "MyWorkManager")
    @ResourceRefs ({
        @ResourceRef(
                name = "MyWorkManager",
                type = "commonj.work.WorkManager",
                auth = ResourceRef.Auth.CONTAINER,
                sharingScope = ResourceRef.SharingScope.SHAREABLE,
                jndiName = "wm/MyWorkManager")
    })This is the generated XML from ejbgen:
    ejb-jar.xml
    <resource-ref>
         <res-ref-name>MyWorkManager</res-ref-name>
         <res-type>commonj.work.WorkManager</res-type>
         <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
         <res-sharing-scope>Shareable</res-sharing-scope>
    </resource-ref>
    weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
    <resource-description>
         <res-ref-name>MyWorkManager</res-ref-name>
         <jndi-name>wm/MyWorkManager</jndi-name>
    </resource-description>
    JNDI Lookup
    This fails (naming exception) and I cannot figure out why.
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    WorkManager wm = (WorkManager)ic.lookup("java:comp/env/wm/MyWorkManager");
    Spring Bean
    I have also tried to use Spring to get a commonj WorkManager which maps to MyWorkManager. This also throws a naming exception.
    <bean id="myWorkManager" class="org.springframework.scheduling.commonj.WorkManagerTaskExecutor">
        <property name="workManagerName" value="java:comp/env/wm/MyWorkManager"/>
    </bean>Edited by: user11950954 on Sep 28, 2009 12:43 PM

    So in this case I should be able to perform a JNDI lookup and get the commonj WorkManager which maps to the WLS Work Manager?Yes, for example:
    weblogic-application.xml :-
    <work-manager>
    *<name>MyWorkManager</name>*
    <response-time-request-class>
    <name>MyResponseTimeGoal</name>
    <goal-ms>1000</goal-ms>
    </response-time-request-class>
    </work-manager>
    MDB Annotations:-
    @ResourceRefs({
         @ResourceRef(
    name = *"MyWorkManager"*,
    type = "commonj.work.WorkManager",
    auth = ResourceRef.Auth.CONTAINER,
    sharingScope = ResourceRef.SharingScope.SHAREABLE,
    jndiName = *"MyWorkManager"* )
    ejb-jar.xml :-
    <resource-ref>
    *<res-ref-name>MyWorkManager</res-ref-name>*
    <res-type>commonj.work.WorkManager</res-type>
    <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    <res-sharing-scope>Shareable</res-sharing-scope>
    </resource-ref>
    weblogic-ejb-jar.xml should be look like this :-
    <resource-description>
    *<res-ref-name>MyWorkManager</res-ref-name>*
    *<jndi-name>MyWorkManager</jndi-name>*
    </resource-description>
    JNDI Lookup:-
    InitialContext ic= new InitialContext();
    WorkManager wm= (WorkManager) ic.lookup("*java:comp/env/MyWorkManager*");

  • Weblogic 12c : Spring taglib No tag library could be found with this URI

    Hello,
    I have an application which deploy perfectly on JBOSS 7 and Websphere
    My WAR includes WEB-INF/lib/spring-webmvc.jar which contains all .tld files declaration (stardard stuff up to now....)
    When I try to acces ths page (JSP) I got : No tag library could be found with this URI
    Really don't know why ??

    I think that there is bug in JSP precompilation by weblogic 12c maven plugin and appc. Seems me that jsp compiler can lose sometimes tag libraries it's precompiling. Next retry using exactly same pom can be successful. I get same results using command line and OEPE 12.1.1.0 mave(pom). My java options for maven package are(-Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -XX:PermSize=512m).
    When I get the error it's something like
    "Failed to execute goal com.oracle.weblogic:wls-maven-plugin:12.1.1.0:appc (default) on project ui_elements:
    There are 1 nested errors:
    weblogic.utils.compiler.ToolFailureException: jspc failed with errors :weblogic.servlet.jsp.CompilationException: naviButtons.tag:23:6: The tag handler class was not found "jsp_servlet._tags.__pagelink_tag".
    <T:pageLink url="${naviStatus.previousPage.linkUrl}"
    ^--------^
    naviButtons.tag:23:6: The tag handler class was not found "jsp_servlet._tags.__pagelink_tag".
    <T:pageLink url="${naviStatus.previousPage.linkUrl}"
    Failed to execute goal com.oracle.weblogic:wls-maven-plugin:12.1.1.0:appc (default) on project ui_elements:"
    Next unsuccessful compilation can mention different tags. Very irregular behavior.
    Do you have resolution?

  • Workshop for weblogic and spring 2.0.6 not working on weblogic 92

    Hi,
    I try to use workshop for weblogic 10.1 to create a web project using spring mvc framework and deploy it to a weblogic 9.2 server, and it gives me the error.
    Here's what I have done:
    Create a 9.2 server.
    Create a web project with spring facet, I downloaded spring 2.0.6.
    I created a test jsp page along with applicationContext.xml and springServlet.xml spring support.
    When I start the server and publish the ear to the server,
    I got the following error:
    Aug 28, 2007 9:18:03 AM EDT> <Notice> <WebLogicServer> <BEA-000360> <Server started in RUNNING mode>

    Does anybody have seen this error before.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I tried the scenario against 9.2mp1 server and 9.2mp2 server and the publish worked fine.
    The only difference is the jsp file you created
    Can you remove your jsp file and see if the publish still fails?
    Which version of 9.2 server are you using? Also, what all facets are you using other than spring?
    Can you also try something and see if it helps?
    1. Open a new workspace
    2. In Window -> Preferences -> WebLogic -> J2EE Libraries, removed the logging bridge libraries (the 10.0 version) and re-added these libraries from a 9.2 installation.
    Basically they are
    wls-commonslogging-bridge 1.0/1.0
    wls-commonslogging-bridge-war 1.0/1.0
    wls-commonslogging-bridge 1.0/1.1
    wls-commonslogging-bridge-war 1.0/1.1
    and add 2 jars from 9.2_BEA_HOME/weblogic92\common\deployable-libraries
    3. Create web project and follow the other steps
    Thanks

    Is this because our DEV environment WLS does not allow anonymous access?
    What should be done to make WLS to allow anonymous access?
    Edited by: 928049 on Apr 16, 2012 8:49 PM

    You have two options:
    OPTION 1: Enable Anonymous Admin Lookup
    We have an option in WebLogic Server Security Configuration called AnonymousAdminLookupEnabled (Domain > Security > General). By default this is diabled. You can check the flag to enable it.
    For further information,
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e13707/domain.htm#i1174143
    OPTION 2: Pass the username and password credentials. OR setup cross-domain security.
    Check the below documentation

    I had a problem upgrading from 10.3.0 to 10.3.3 as well.
    I used Smart Update on a Linux (X86) machine.
    - I had previously used Smart Update to apply Critical Patches to the WLS 10.3.0 environment, all using the default profile.
    - I upgraded the environment to Maintenance Pack 3 using Smart Update.
    After the upgrade Smart Update indicates that there are no patches applied. However, when I start a WLS server previously created in 10.3.0, it lists the patches previously applied and then fails with a message:
    <Error> <Deployer> <BEA-149231> <Unable to set the activation state to true for the application 'bea_wls_internal'.
    I opened a service request and received a 'workaround' which is to manually remove the patches applied for 10.3.0. After I did this things worked correctly, at least for the trivial testing that I've performed so far.
    Perhaps you should open an SR, report the problem and maybe get a better workaround?

  • WLS 6.0 & WLCS 3.2 & interop between 5.1 & 6.0

    Hi,
    Apparently, WLCS 3.2 will support WLS 6.0 in spring (cf various posts). We
    are currently using WLS 5.1 for
    EJB dev & WLCS for JSP dev but wanted to migrate our EJB dev to WLS 6.0. Not
    possible !!! We thought of
    having two servers one for running WLCS 3.2 (5.1) and one for our EJB (6.0).
    Here it's a JNDI problem that
    make the thing impossible (no interop between 5.1 and 6.0).
    I find unacceptable that BEA delivers a new version of their server without
    upgrading at the same time all
    other applications running on top of that server (WLCS & WLPI). I find a lot
    more unacceptable the non interop between 5.1 and 6.0 !!!
    I evently tried to migrate WLCS 3.2 to WLS 6.0 (after all that should be
    possible as it's possible to migrate 5.1
    applications to 6.0) but got so many errors with EJB deployment that I will
    stop.
    Did anybody reach the same problem, did anybody succeed in migrating WLCS
    3.2 to WLS 6.0 ?
    Could BEA deliver a compatible version of WLCS 3.2 before "Spring" !!!! ?
    Thanks for any ideas,
    Olivier

    Hello Olivier,
    I am sorry that you are so frustrated by the lag between the WLS 6.0 release
    and WLCS certification on WLS 6.0. It is a large task and we want to do a
    thorough job to ensure the quality of our WLCS product.
    This spring we plan to release a top-quality personalization and commerce
    server that runs on the best application server in the world, just like we did
    with WLCS 3.2 on WLS 5.1 in December. I am confident in the technical
    superiority of WLCS over other personalization and commerce servers and I can
    assure you that our team puts a high priority on WLS 6.0 certification.
    If you have any problems using our products do not hesitate to contact our
    support team at http://www.bea.com/support/index.jsp . If you are not
    satisfied with any technical aspect of our product or our support, let me know.
