Yes, Thank you for using the term Place. You moved my focus off the clipboard, and Place set me back on course. Somewhere, the terms Copy and Paste need to be tagged to Place and Export. I'm a database designer who only uses Illustrator for forms the database fills. My need isn't yet met, but the rest should come with reading the right references. Thanks Larry!

• Webforms - Wrap Text/Word Wrap for Column Headings

I have some member aliases that are set as my webform's column headings, but they are fairly long. Setting the column width to a custom value that fits most of the text in the heading makes the form very wide and ugly to work with. I don't see any option to Wrap Text or use Word Wrap in the column headings. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks!

Hi,
I am not aware of any option which allows you to wrap the text, it may be possible customizing the [CSS |http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/ch12s03.html] though to be honest I am not even sure about that and even if it was possible it would apply to all apps.

• How to word wrap within text field

I've created a form with a text field but when filling the form out, the words don't word wrap, but merely go in a single line across the text box field.

• How to make items in a list word wrap as needed and be variable heights

I am trying to build a custom itemrenderer for the List control. The items in the list are variable lengths of text, some of the text items will have different colors determined at runtime base on some criteria (this works fine now with my custom itemrenderer). What I need is for the items to word wrap, and therefore for the list to display items of varying heights. Is this possible to do? All my attempts seem to have failed. If I can't do this with an item renderer any suggestions about how to do this? Thanks very much in advance to any of you gurus who are able to help me.

Trick here is not to specify any height for the renderer so that Flex will determine the height according to the content. Also set the variableRowHeight="true"
Here is a simple example
<mx:ArrayCollection id="dp">
<mx:Array>
<mx:Object label="some very long text"/>
<mx:Object label="some very loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong text"/>
<mx:Object label="some very loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong text"/>
<mx:Object label="some very looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong text"/>
<mx:Object label="some very long text"/>
</mx:Array>
</mx:ArrayCollection>
<mx:List dataProvider="{dp}" variableRowHeight="true">
<mx:itemRenderer>
<mx:Component>
<mx:Canvas width="100%">
<mx:Text width="100%" text="{data.label}"/>
</mx:Canvas>
</mx:Component>
</mx:itemRenderer>
</mx:List>

• DataGrid, HTML Text, and WORD WRAPPING

I have a datagrid, with 2 columns:
- comment
- date
The dataprovider that feeds the datagrid is an array
collection, with each object containing the following fields:
- comment
- date
- viewed
What I want to do is BOLD the comment cell if the comment has
not yet been viewed. What I first tried doing was to just insert
the tags on the server and then feed them up to
Flex. So here's the code that I had tried to do this with:
<mx:DataGridColumn>
<mx:itemRenderer>
<mx:Component>
<mx:HBox>
<mx:Label htmlText="{data.comment}" />
</mx:HBox>
</mx:Component>
</mx:itemRenderer>
</mx:DataGridColumn>
This works, but I lose the word wrapping for long comments (I
have wordwrap="true" defined on my DataGrid).
Then I tried changing my approach and doing something a
little more simple to try and preserve the word wrapping, like
this:
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="comment" width="100"
wordWrap="true" fontWeight="{(data.viewed==0 ? 'bold' : 'normal')}"
/>
Yet that doesn't seem to work either, it appears to just
completely ignore everything... no bolding whatsoever.
So my question is: what's the best to to control the BOLDING
of a DataGrid cell while at the same time retaining the word wrap
features?
Thanks,
Jacob

<mx:DataGridColumn>
<mx:itemRenderer>
<mx:Component>
<mx:HBox>
<mx:Label htmlText="{data.comment}"
wordWrap="true" height="100%"/>
</mx:HBox>
</mx:Component>
</mx:itemRenderer>
</mx:DataGridColumn>

• Text area and Word Wrapping

I am creating a email form and am having problems with word
wraping in the text area. You can view the page and the output if
you put your email address in the form. The problem is the text
areas word wrap when inputting your information but all formatting
is lost in the email. Even if I add spacing for paragraphs. All
data is just a big run on sentence.
Here is the

I am using Dreamweaver * and php.
Thanks

Someone may have tried this because I received this output in
an email. You can see the formattint is lost.

• Prob with fixed column widths and word wrapping in viewer

i have a report where each record has a very long paragraph of text in it.
In desktop and plus, the text column is at a fixed width and the text just wraps nicely according to the column width.
But in Viewer, the column widths do not stay fixed, the text does not wrap, and the long text is displayed in a single line that completely stretches the column width off the page and requires a horizontal scroll bar.
is there anyway to fix the column width in viewer, have the text naturally wrap, and prevent the column stretching. All word wrapping settings are on, but seem to have no effect. I can't seem to find any solution to this.
Thanks...

Hi Pritam,
Per my understanding that you can't see the vertical scrollbar of the ReportViewer controls 2012 to scroll for the grid rows, but can see the vertical scrollbar of the web application, you also can't fix the headers while scrolling, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can't reproduce your issue, but you have an alternative way to add some css to the web form's source code to display the vertical scrollbar.
Details information below for your reference:
Please check below properties setting of the reportviewer which control the visibility of the scrollbar:
AsyncRendering="true"
SizeToReportContent="false"
Please check if this problem also occur on other version of IE and other type of browser.
Please check if you have done correct setting of the Fix data to freeze the table header as the step of below:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb934257(v=sql.100).aspx
If step1 doesn't work, please click the source of webform.aspx and add below CSS to add the vertical scrollbar manually:
#ReportViewer1 {
overflow-y: scroll;
Run the application you will see it display as below:

• Word Wrap in Smartforms

hi all,
how do you word wrap a field value in a cell of a table in smarforms?
thanks,
sid

Hi,
Word wrap is automatically enabled based on the size and the position of the window. You can adjust the window position on the form painter to enable the word wrap. There is as such no specific settings to be done.
Cheers

• JLabel Word Wrap

I'm building a simple chat application to work on my network programming skills. I ran into an issue that I can't quite find a solution to.
I Have a JPanel inside of a JScrollPane, and inside of it JLabels with the messages received are added as they come. I would like the JLabels to wrap the text after it reaches a certain width. Here's the testing code I'm using for this:
import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.*;
class ChatBody {
public static Container createChatBody() {
JPanel body = new JPanel(new GridBagLayout());
GridBagConstraints c = new GridBagConstraints();
c.fill = GridBagConstraints.BOTH;
c.weightx = 1.0;
c.weighty = 1.0;
JPanel messages = new JPanel();
JScrollPane messagesPane = new JScrollPane(messages);
messagesPane.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(608, 478));
messagesPane.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.black));
messagesPane.setVerticalScrollBarPolicy(JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS);
JLabel messageOne = new JLabel("This is a label that I'm going to make really long to test the wrapping abilities of a JLabel/JPanel/JScrollPane. This needs to be really long so it will reach the end of the scroll pane and *hopefully* wrap on it's own, so I won't have to do any work =D");
messages.add(messageOne);
c.gridx = 0;
c.gridy = 0;
body.add(messagesPane, c);
return body;
}Please note I took some irrelevant code out.
Is there a method or something to make JLabels word wrap? Or will I have to be creative and make something up?
Edit: I don't know if this is relevant, but this is the class with the main() method:
import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.*;
class JavaChat {
public static void createChatWindow() {
JFrame frame = new JFrame("Java Chat");
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
frame.setMinimumSize(new Dimension(800, 600));
//frame.setJMenuBar();
frame.getContentPane().add(ChatBody.createChatBody());
frame.pack();
frame.setVisible(true);
public static void main(String args[]) {
SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
createChatWindow();
}That's needed for anyone that needs to compile my code for some reason.

Wrapping is not support in a JLabel.
Most people would use either a JTextArea or JTextPane which do support wrapping.

• Word wrap problems in 36.0

When entering text into a web form the text no longer "wraps" at the end of the box. The first part of the text runs off the left side. It is working fine in THIS text entry box but is now a problem on some other sites.
See: http://www.thedirectoryclassifieds.com. Start placing a listing and then start entering text into the description box. Once you reach the end of the line the text does not wrap, just runs off the left side as typing continues. After this testing, just exit (back out) without continuing placing the listing.
When encountering this problem I did a test on another computer that had 35.0.1 and word wrapping worked fine. Then I upgraded to 36.0 on that computer and now the problem is there too.
So this definitely means a problem with 36.0 as it wasn't there in earlier versions.

That particular form control has:
<textarea id="main_description" name="b[description]" '''style="white-space: pre;"''' class="editor field"></textarea>
For the first time in Firefox 36, the white-space property is being honored for textarea controls. So there's your trouble: "pre" means Firefox should emulate the preformatted tag, which requires manual line breaks.
It would be great if you can convince the site to change this to:
<textarea id="main_description" name="b[description]" '''style="white-space: pre-wrap;"''' class="editor field">
which is supported by all modern browsers (per the compatibility table here: [https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/CSS/white-space#Browser_compatibility]).
But that likely will take some time, so what is the best short-term workaround? I need to think about that a bit.
To manually hack this form control, you can right-click it and choose Inspect Element (Q). This should open the web console to the Inspector in the lower part of the tab. Firefox should highlight the HTML tag I listed first above, and on the right, show the style rules for it. Under "This Element" you can uncheck the box for that rule to have the textarea styled using default rules. But you would need to do this after each time you load the page, which is a hassle.

• Dynamically word wrap in a JLabel

I have several JLabels in a complex layout that has a JSplitter and is in a resizeable window.
I would like it if there isn't enough room for the text of the JLabel to fit on one line, but there is enough vertical room (there almost always is), for the JLabel to automatically word wrap, and become 2 or three line, as needed. (There are usually only 2 or three words in these JLabels.
I haven't found a way to do this. I know about putting HTML in the JLabel lets you put
s in, but I would like the JLabel to be only one line if possible, going to two line if there isn't enough room to fit all the text on one line.
I searched this forum, and found a suggestion to use a JTextArea made up to look like a JLabel ( http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=57&thread=399180 second reply from bottom ), but this has it's own problems. The JTextAreas, try to take up as much vertical space as possible instead of only as much space a necessary (as a JLable does) in the layout that I'm using.
Is there any way of doing this?

JLabel label = new JLabel();
label.setLayout new BorderLayout() ;
JTextPane pane = new JTextPane();
pane.setBackground(label.getBackground());
// or try making it opaque
pane.setText("long text here");
label.add(pane,BorderLayout.CENTER);The above still has the problem of wanting its preferred size to be calculated from the text layed out in one line. I was digged around in my Java2D folder and found some old code I wrote, based on something by J. Knudsen:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.font.*;
import java.text.*;

• Import Word 2007 Form check boxes undefined

Any one have any idea on how to get the forms wizard to import the field property names for check boxes in an Adobe form?
I have a Word 2007 form which I have tried saving as a .doc, .dot, dotm, .docx and no matter what format I choose, I cannot get the check box fields to import. I used the legacy checkbox field under the developer ribbon in Word 2007 to create the check boxes. I have tried to import with protection on the word form enabled and stopped but it doesn't make a difference. The check box fields come across fine but the name and the text fields both say undefined rather then display the field name given in Word. I am using Adobe 9 pro. I have checked my Adobe preferences in Word and made sure all the boxes were checked for converting bookmarks but it still did not make a difference. The text fields are importing fine with the property field names.
Here is an example:
I have a yes check box that is labeled StorageY and a no checkbox labeled StorageN for the properties in Word. I then went to the form wizard in Adobe 9 and selected start with existing form and selected the fillable word form I created with the check boxes. I imported it and the check box properties say Undefined for both storageY and storageN. There are about 60 check boxes in the document and I don't want to retype them every time in Adobe when the word form is updated and has to be conveted again.
I sure hope there is a solution.
Thanks.

Thanks for the information but I respectfully disagree with "there is no import". If you open Adobe Acrobat
9 pro and go to Forms, Start Forms Wizard, select An Existing electronic document and click on Next. Select "import" a file from file system and browse for the word document and click on Next.
Using this method not only runs the automatic field recognition you were referring to, it also brings in all the word form field text and formats with the exception of the check boxes. My only guess is the problem has something to do specifically with the check box fields as it does bring over the radio button text. A lot less work to keep the form updated. It rocks. You should try it some time.
Word 2007 pdf writer does the same thing as the openoffice.org but neither bring across the form field info. They just create a starting point and you would have to use the method you described above to create the fillable form.

• Word Wrapping in DM8

i'd like to word wrap (i think) so that people can move the
borders of the window around and still see all the texts and
images. can somebody tell me how to do this please?
thank you

That actually doesn't have much to do with it. (No offense,
Ken!)
If your text is within a container (a table, or a div, most
likely) which is
set to a percentage width, it will wrap to suit the size of
the window,
however the window is sized. This is assuming that you're not
putting hard
returns (line breaks -
) at the end of any lines of
text.
