Workflow Status column for new content type

Hi,
Initially I had a document library and several workflows associated with it. After that I created a new content type inheriting Folder content type. My existing workflows could be started and work fine with any item of this new content type except anything
related to the workflow status column, such as "Automatically update workflow status to the current stage name", or workflow action "Set workflow status". If I use the OOTB Folder content type, everything's fine. But I need custom fields
for folder as well.
The workflows can be started then it seems unreasonable that they are not associated with the items of the new content type, considering I set my new content type to be the child of the existing Folder content type. So why any item under this new content
type does not have the workflow status column? I've tried removing the workflow from the list and publishing back using SPD without success.
I also notice that when you associate a new content type to a document library/list which has some custom columns, you cannot edit those columns to be used in the new content type. You need to delete those columns and recreate them, then the option "Add
to all content types" is there. Is this expected design?
Thanks

Hi,
According to your post, an error occurred when you created a custom Edit form for new content type.
We can do as follows:
1.Add the MyNameSpace.MyNewEditPage dll file into GAC(C:\Windows\assembly).
2. Execute the iisreset command.
We can create a new content type using visual studio 2012/2013.

  • OOTB Approval Workflow for a Content Type sends emails for 2 content types

    My environment: SP 2013 Server (WFE-APP) + SQL
    I have a few Content Types configured in a document library. Every content type has an OOTB approval workflow to fire an e-mail to the approver on each new/edit.
    When I create a new file for testing, it first becomes checked out with no properties added. I then edit the properties to specify its content type and other fields. When I check in the document, SharePoint sends out an e-mail to the approver for that content
    type which is correct. What SharePoint also does for this very same file is sends out an approval request e-mail for the default content type for that library which is something else than a desired content type.
    This is something I cannot understand. I thought that the workflows start on a file 'Check in'. If I check in a file that is a certain content type, why does the approval for a default content type for a library trigger as well?

    Hi,
    Is it SharePoint 2013 workflow or previous 2010 model workflow? If it's SharePoint 2013, how are you associating workflow to content type. As per
    MSDN "Unlike previous versions, SharePoint 2013 does not support workflows that are scoped to a
    content type. However, the messaging infrastructure is extensible, so it can support
    any arbitrary scope. As a developer, you can set to", workflow association with content type (which was possible in SharePiont 2010) is no longer available out of the box. You need to do it manually, (not sure how as there's no documentation yet
    from MS) and programmatically.

  • Orphaned column in a content type

    Hi,
    We have MMS and Content Type Hub created.
    Initially we created a column and added it to a couple of content types in the Content Type Hub and published the content types.
    Recently we deleted the column from one particular content type and republished the content type, but still we see the column in the content type in the subscribing site collections New and Old.
    Have manually run the jobs "Content Type Hub" and "Content Type Subscriber"

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that the content type in the subscribing site collections don’t update immediately.
    I recommend that you can try to check and test the things as below:
      1.  Go to “SharePoint 2013 Central Administration”, click on the “Application Management”, click on the “Manage Service Application”, select “Managed Metadata Service Application”, check the Managed metadata service connection properties to make
    sure that the option “Consumes content types from Content Type gallery at <your correct Content Type Hub URL>” and “Push-down Content Type Publishing updates from the Content Type Gallery to sub-sites and lists using the content type” is enabled.
      2.  Go to “Site Settings”, click on the “Site content types”, select the particular content type, click on the “Manage publishing for this content type”, check the “Unpublish” button and click on the “OK” button, then you need to publish it again.
      3.  Go to “Site Settings”, click on the “Content Type Publishing” to check the “Refresh all published content types on next update” and the “the Content Type Publishing error log”.
      4.  Go to “Monitoring” in the “SharePoint 2013 Central Administration”, click on the “Review job definitions”, find the
    “Content Type Hub” and “Content Type Subscriber” timer jobs to run again, and check if the two timer job’s status is succeeded.

  • Missing Columns from List Content Type

    Hi,
    I'm having some strange problems with one of my site collections, I have site content types with a few columns in it and I'm using them in 3 different libraries.
    However recently something happened and it seems the list content types in one of the libraries have stopped using some of the columns set out in the site content type (according to library settings). The columns still show as part of the list (and the metadata
    is still in there), when I've tried adding them back to the list content types, I do not see them in the list columns group, only in their original column group. If I try to add them to the list from their original group I get the errors similar to the following:

    I've tried to make changes to the parent site content type, however those changes to not push down to the library in question. The missing columns have varied types (single line of text, lookup, managed metadata and so forth). All of these content types &
    site columns were created through the user interface of SharePoint.
    Can anyone help me with any ideas what has happened and/or how to fix this problem?

    Hi Hans,
    As I understand, you have custom content type in 3 libraries, while the issue occurs to the columns in this content type.
    I wonder if the issue occurs to other two libraries as well?
    From your description, "I've tried to make changes to the parent site content type, however those changes to not push down to the library in question", do you mean that changes in content type are not reflected to the list which is added to this
    content type. If that is the case, I'd suggest you recreate content type.
    If the site content type works well in other two libraries, please create a new library and add this content type. If it works well, then move the list content to this new list.

  • [CSOM] How to use CSOM to add a Enterprise Keywords column to a content type

    Based on information given in following blogs,
    http://sadomovalex.blogspot.com/2011/05/add-enterprise-keywords-field-into.html
    I wrote this code to Add an Enterprise Keywords column to a SharePoint content type. the  code runs fine... but when I go to the content type definition in the UI I don't see any column other than title.
    ContentTypeCreationInformation contentType = new ContentTypeCreationInformation();
    contentType.Name = "MyCT";
    contentType.Group = "MyGroup";
    contentType.ParentContentType = itemCt;
    ct = web.ContentTypes.Add(contentType);
    web.Update();
    c.ExecuteQuery();
    Field f1;
    Field f2;
    FieldCollection collFields = web.Fields;
    var siteColumns = c.LoadQuery(collFields);
    c.ExecuteQuery();
    foreach (var col in siteColumns) {
    if (col != null) {
    if (col.Title.Equals("TaxKeywordTaxHTField")) {
    f1 = col;
    if (col.Title.Equals("Tax Catch All Column")) {
    f2 = col;
    FieldLinkCreationInformation fieldLink = new FieldLinkCreationInformation();
    fieldLink.Field = f1;
    myContentType.FieldLinks.Add(fieldLink);
    f1.Update();
    FieldLinkCreationInformation fieldLink2 = new FieldLinkCreationInformation();
    fieldLink2.Field = f2;
    myContentType.FieldLinks.Add(fieldLink2);
    f2.Update();
    web.Update();
    c.ExecuteQuery();
    But when I go into SharePoint UI and try to see the content of my new content type. it only has a title column. there is no Enterprise Keyword column.
    How can I add a enterprise keyword column?
    val it: unit=()

  • New Content Type with RDL template

    I'm building a new Project Server 2010 site template and one of the libraries that I want to provide will store the Status Reports for each Project.
    I'm struggling with what seems like a simple concept.
    Create a new Content Type that uses the status_report.RDL as it's template so that users can click on the 'New Document' button drop down in the ribbon and select 'Status Report' from a list of possible document templates and then the status report opens, they
    add the required parameters, run the report and then 'Export' it as an Excel Sheet which they can store in the library as a point in time report of the projects status.
    Am I asking too much or do I just need to decypher the way that SharePoint builds the URL for the report from the actual .RDL file that's stored in a library in order to enter it as the location of the content type template?
    Thanks in advance.
    N03L.

    I should add that I'm planning on having this content type stored in a Content Type Hub and published for use in another Site Collection.

  • Best Practises for using Content Types

    We had third party vendor who migrated and re structured contents and sites in Sharepoint 2010. I noticed one unusual thing : In most cases they new separate site content types for every library in a site i.e. even if two libraries contain same set of metadata
    columns they created separate site content types by duplicating it from the first one and gave it unique name and used in second library.
    My point of view for content type is that they are used for re usability, i.e. if another library is needing same set of metadata columns then I would just reuse existing content type rather than creating another content type with different name by inheriting
    it from the first one and having same set of columns.
    When I asked vendor reason for this approach (for every library they created new content types and for libraries needing same set of meta data columns they just inherited from a custom site content type and created another duplicate one with same set of
    meta data columns and gave it different name in most cases name of library ) they said they did that to classify documents which I did not agree with because by creating two document libraries classification is already done.
    I need some expert advice on this, I will really appreciate: I understand content types are useful and they provide re usability but,
     A) Do we need to create new site content types whenever we create new library ? (Even though we are not going to re use them)
    B) What is best practice : if few libraries are needing same set of metadata columns
    1) Create site a content type and reuse it in those libraries ? or
    2) Create a site content type and create new content types by inheriting from site content type created at first and just give them different name even though all of them are having same set of columns  ?
    I need expert advice on this but following is my own opinion on this
    I do not think point A) is a good practice and should not be used, we should create site content type only when we think it will be re used and we do not need to create site content type every time we create document library. Also I do not think point 2)
    of B is a good practice as well
    Dhaval Raval

    It depends on the nature of the content types and the libraries. If the document types really are shared between document libraries then use the same ones. If the content types are distinct and non overlapping items that have different processes, rules or
    uses then breaking them out into a separate content type is the way forward.
    As an example for sharing content types: Teams A and B have different document libraries. Both fill in purchase orders, although they work on different projects. In this case they use the same form and sharing a content type is the no question approach.
    As an example for different content types: A company has two arms, a consultancy where they send people out to client sites and a manufacturing team who build hardware. Both need to fill in timesheets but whilst the metadata fields on both are the same the
    forms are different and/or are processed in a different manner.
    You can make a case either way, i prefer to keep the content types simple and only expand out when there's a proven need and a user base with experience with them. It means that if you wanted to subdivide later you'd have more of a headache but that's a
    risk I generally think works out.

  • How to programmatically create a site column and a content type

    Hello,
    I'd like to create a site column (let's say a field text) and a content type, only  using c#  -i.e. I don't want to add new item/column and then xml. This code will be added to a FeatureActivated.My code is :
    public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties) {SPWeb rootweb = (SPWeb) properties.Feature.Parent;
    SPFieldText field = new SPFieldText(SPfiledscollection???, "field1");
    if (field != null)
    rootweb.Fields.Add(field)
    rootweb.Update();
    }   SPContentType newContentType = new SPContentType(spcntenttypeId??, SPContentTypeCollection ??, "content1");
       rootweb.ContentTypes.Add(newContentType);
       rootweb.Update();
    Are there any sample codes out there? I've only found samples using xml - which has an irritating "feature"
    Thank you
    Christos

    Nice code and it helped me understand. Some small questions. I'm trying to make all the "data" for a (sub)web site.
    So, I think, my steps are:
    1. create site columns+content type
    2. create  list
    3. create a lookup site column that uses the list on <2>
    4. create content type that uses the site column on <3>
    5. Create the list for the content type on <4>
    My confusion is: should I use one feature for everything? Your code is using scope=site, so i need to "hardcode" the web site's name. I don't mind doing that , I just don't know how to use scopes in features for creating data.
    Thank you

  • Move workflow status column from one library to another in Sharepoint 2010

    Good morning,
     I have two libraries in the same site, LibraryA and LibraryB.
     On LibraryA, users upload documents upon which they start a collect signatures workflow. The view on LibraryA contains a column with the signatures workflow name showing status: ‘Compete’, ‘In progress’.
     Now on LibraryA I have created a workflow to move any document one month after creation to LibraryB (using retention schedule) irrespective of signature workflow status.
     Now what I would like is to have the signature workflow status shown in LibraryB as well. From what I understand you can add the workflow status column only on the library with which the workflow is associated. I also tried, on LibraryB, to create a new
    column which Lookups in {Signature Approval History – Outcome} but this did not do the trick either.
     Any workarounds?
     Many Thanks

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to move the workflow status column to another library in SharePoint 2010.
    I recommend to use another column to get the value of the workflow status column and then move this column to another library.
    We can use workflow to update the column with the value of workflow status column.
    However, the workflow status column stores the value with numbers which represent different status, so we need to update the column with corresponding status based on the numbers in the workflow.

  • How to delete a custom columns from a content-type in Sharepoint Client object model

    I have a windows interface where I create a content-type and then create a column and adds that column to the content-type.
    //availableCT is my content-type where the column is present.
    //get all available fields within this content-type
    FieldCollection fieldColl = availableCT.Fields;
    clientContext.Load(fieldColl);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    foreach (Field field in fieldColl)
    //columnFromList is the column that is to be deleted
    if (field.InternalName.Equals(columnFromList))
    field.DeleteObject();
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery(); // this throws an exception
    // Additional information: Site columns which are included in content types or on lists cannot be deleted. Please remove all instances of this site column prior to deleting it.

    hi,
    you can use the below code to delete it
    using (ClientContext sourceContext = new ClientContext(cmdSpoSite))
    Web web = sourceContext.Web;
    sourceContext.Load(web);
    sourceContext.Load(web.AvailableContentTypes, type => type.Include(c => c.FieldLinks, c => c.Name));
    sourceContext.ExecuteQuery();
    List<ContentType> ExistingContentType = web.AvailableContentTypes.ToList();
    IEnumerable<ContentType> contentTypesList = ExistingContentType.Where(ct => ct.Name == "<ContentTypeName>");
    ContentType ctype = contentTypesList.ElementAt(0);
    IQueryable<FieldLink> flinks = ctype.FieldLinks.Where(f => f.Name == "<FiledName");
    foreach (FieldLink flink in flinks)
    flink.DeleteObject();
    ctype.Update(true);
    sourceContext.ExecuteQuery();
    The difference being in your code and above code is you are removeing fileds which is eventually is deleting site column but a site column cannot be deleted if is alreday being used. So you need to deled the FieldLink in content type taht way column is removed
    from content type but not from site column.
    Now if you want to delete site column you can use your code to deleted Field.

  • SPD 2013 WorkFlow Status Column: Status Not Updated

    We are having an issue with the status display of the SPD Designer Workflow status column which is a read only column added by SharePoint to show the status of the workflow. We have some SharePoint 2013 Workflows built using SharePoint Designer that are
    attached to specific SharePoint Document Libraries. The expected behavior is for this column to show the workflow statuses (Not Started, Starting Workflow, In Progress and Completed.
    Based on our observation this status is showing up although the column does get added for the Workflow that we have. Is there any other dependency for SPD Workflows that are attached to Document Libraries to show the status correctly? Any other settings/configurations
    to be made?
    Regards,
    Vikram

    Hi Venkadesh,
    It is by design that 2013 workflow will show stage name in the workflow status column when
    Automatically update the workflow status to the current stage name is checked.
    And the workflow status column will be blank when Automatically update the workflow status to the current stage name is unchecked.
    For existing workflows, the workflow status will still exists with the previous values after unchecking Automatically update the workflow status to the current stage name.
    We can use Set Workflow Status action to update the workflow status value based on our needs.
    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi ,
    Navigate to UCM UI - Administration - Admin Applets - Configuration Manager - File - Publish Schema (and also Publish Schema Base) .
    Then test and update the results.

  • What HTTP caching headers will prevent iPhoto from re-downloading each image in a "Photo Feed" every time it checks the feed for new content?

    I've noticed a practical issue with iPhoto's File->"Subscribe to Photo Feed..." feature.
    Every time that iPhoto checks a subscribed RSS Photo Feed for new content it will re-download each and every photo in the feed.  This occurs even if iPhoto has already downloaded each image, they all have unique GUIDs set, and no content in the feed has changed since the last time it polled for it.
    My best guess is that this happens if the server offering the feed does not produce the proper cache-control parameters in the HTTP Headers that are sent by the server when the RSS feed is accessed by iPhoto.
    Does anyone know what parameter/value pairs need to be set in the HTTP headers to prevent iPhoto from re-downloading RSS enclosures that it already has?
    This is a very practical problem for feeds with a large number of photos of large file size.  Besides the obvious massive waste of bandwidth, the user receives an annoying error whenever they try to quit iPhoto before the feed and all of it's images have been re-downloaded yet again.

    Here is an example of the HTTP headers for two of the images in the feed.
    Any red flags in there that you think might be causing iPhoto to think it needs to re-download the images after it's already downloaded them once?

  • Workflow status column is not showing the internal status values (Inprogress, Started, Suspended, Completed)

    I've created SPD 2013 workflow and deployed them onto that document library, This workflow execute on item update event. When updating library item, workflow triggered and completed successfully but workflow status column is not
    showing the Internal Status values rather it is showing the Stage information. I've unchecked the "Automatically update stage name on workflow status" and republished the workflow. After that, it is still showing the stage information. Any help
    is really appreciated.
