Workshop debugger slow

Hi,
I am using Workshup 6 with SunPro CC 5.2. I have what I would consider a
small multithreaded server application (about 20000 lines of source code),
which depends on 6 small (about 10000 lines of source code) shared
libraries. When compiling in debug more with "-g -mt -features=rtti
-xildoff -lpthread" the applications size is about 44MB, the shared
libraries have a size of about 10MB each they are build with "-g -mt -PIC
-xildoff -lpthread". Also the application and shared libraries are using
templates. Debugging this application is extremely slow when running, and
when setting breakpoints (minutes range). Frequently the application just
hangs, and needs to be terminated. There is no load on the application when
doing this, just a number of threads (about 13) waiting.
Any ideas how I could speed up this process? Any help would be highly
appreciated.
Thanks.

  • Sunstudio 11 debugger slow response

    In attempting to debug code in a shared library containing both .c and .cpp files (.c compiled with cc and .cpp with CC), the dbx response from within the IDE debugger on a single step command is much longer than from within a .cpp file. It can take as long as 10 seconds for the next dbx prompt to appear in the debugging window. This does not occur when using the dbx command line debugger. The compile options are the same: -c -Kpic -g - xtarget=ultra3 -xarch=v8plusa -xs -DDEBUG=1 -UNDEBUG. Any suggestions?

    We've seen this kind of slow down before as a result of dbx sending the
    local variables and stack trace to the IDE over and over. I've written
    some more information about it here:
    http://blogs.sun.com/quenelle/entry/sun_studio_ide_turning_off
    See if the workarounds on that page help you deal with the problem.
    The write-up talks about printing bugs that can crash the IDE or dbx, and
    needing to disable some stuff to work around those bugs. But we've
    also seen performance problems relating to the same thing.

  • Weblogic workshop denugger proxy

    Hi,
    Whenever I started debugging a web app, I got the following warning message:
    The debugger proxy is not running on the same machine as your Weblogic Server. You will not be able to hit breakpoints. You will need to restart your server to debug.
    Restarting server dis not eliminate this message.
    Thanks,

    In WLW 8.1, to debug the server you need to be running the debugger proxy, which is a separate process on the same machine as your server. The default startup scripts will start and stop the proxy automatically for you, but if the user has created a custom startWebLogic.cmd/sh, it may not be running. In startWebLogic.cmd, there should be a line that looks something like:
    start "WebLogic Workshop Debugger..." /B %JAVA_HOME%\bin\java -classpath %DEBUG_CLASSPATH% %DBG_JAVA_OPTIONS% weblogic.debugging.engine.DbgMain
    Take a look at the startWebLogic scripts that come with the domain for SamplesApp for more detail.
    If the proxy is not running, you can debug the server as a "Non Workshop Server", but you lose some features like the ability to debug server-side JavaScript and seeing the output stream as it is being written back to the client when debugging JSPs.

  • Cannot run BEA WebLogic 8.1 SP 3 with JDK 1.6

    Hi,
    Im using BEA Weblogic 8.1 SP3 trying to run a sample where a Robot from Kapow Mashup Server is called from a WebService hosted in the server.
    The thing is that I keep getting a EJB Exception: : java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/StringBuilder (I attach the full exception below). I realised that by default the server uses the JDK which comes with the software (version 1.4) and that the class java.lang.StringBuilder is only available from JDK 1.5 onwards.
    I have JDK 1.6 in my system, so in WebLogic -> Tools -> Application Properties -> JDK Home, I set that folder but still same exception occurs.
    Through the Configuration Wizard I create a new “Basic WebLogic Server Domain” and in the step to configure the Java SDK I set the JDK 1.6 folder. However, when I try to start that server I get this error.

    I guess client side is completely out of WLS so the jdk to be used on the client side is not set in the environment.
    However, the Exception Im getting is on the server side, when it tries to run the code automatically generated from Kapow Mashup Server 6.3. That code is embedded in a jar file, but it seems it makes a call to the java.lang.StringBuilder class which as said before, it is only available from jdk 1.5 onwards.
    Should I contact Kapow Mashup Server support to see how the sample code is generated or I am missing something?
    Regards.

  • 10.3 and 8.1 at the same time

    I'm trying to run 10.3 and 8.1 at the same time and have had no luck so far.
    I have:
    installed 10.3 in a new directory, C:\bea103
    I'm running 8.1 in the default C:\bea
    changed the point base ports in 8.1
    changed the http/https ports in 8.1 to 8001/8002
    any ideas on what else I should do?
    I can start on or the other. When 10.3 is running 8.1 outputs the following to the console (Class paths have been chopped for length and the start command edited for legibility):

    Hi
    Did you change this 8453 to someother value for one of the domains. This looks like a Pointbase DB Debug Port. First change main pointbase db port and then change this debug port value also in setDomainEnv.cmd file.

  • Cannot start Weblogic server after installation

    Hi,
    i just installed weblogic workshop 8.1 and i wanted to start creating a simple EJB application. After creating a simple (express) Basic Weblogic Platform Domain, when I create an application ans try to start the server, I get the error listed below. Can anyone let me know what I'm missing in the initial configuration?
    Thanks.

  • Howto enable deprecated warnings?

    Hi!
    How can i enable deprecated warnings during the build process within workshop?
    The deprecated warnings should also be shown in PageFlows (*.jpf) and Controls (*.jcs). Is this possible?
    Best Regards,
    Ralf Schumacher
    Message was edited by [email protected] at Jul 26, 2004 4:34 AM

    You can right click on the project and export the ant
    build.xml. You can modify the build.xml to add a flag
    for the javac or java according to the jdk you use
    and also make sure to set the project to use the
    exported ant build.xml file.I already did this. But the exported ant file is not very useful. The exported ant file contains only 2 targets: build and clean. BEA uses its own non documented "fat" build task to build and compile all files (all means all classes, controls, pageflows and jsp). This makes build with the bea workshop so slow ... because on every build all is recompiled, regardless if changed or not ...
    Imho with javac (1.4) the default is to show deprecated warnings, a flag exists to suppress these warnings. What is BEA doing in there build task ... ???
    So, how do i get the deprecated warnings within bea workshop???
    Best Regard,
    Ralf Schumacher

  • Data service for table in Oracle 8.0.6

    Hi,
    Using WebLogic 8.1.4 and LiquidData 8.5 I am trying to create physical data services for tables in a DB in Oracle 8.0.6. I am aware that that Oracle version is not supported by Oracle anymore, but I need to work with that version anyway (you know how it is sometimes).
    I managed to create a connection pool for this through the WebLogic Server Console by providing the JDBC driver for 8.0.6., but when I want to create a data source using the new connection pool and WebLogic tries to get the metadata, I get pop up windows with messages like:
    "Bigger type length than maximum"
    and
    "OALL8 in an inconsistent state"
    and
    "Protocol violation"
    One more thing to mention: I also added the Oracle 8.0.6 JDBC driver to the WebLogic Server classpath (Tools -> WebLogic Server -> Server Properties ... -> WebLogic Server: added classes12.zip to Server classpath additions) and restarted WebLogic Workshop and Server. Still I get those error messages.
    Is there a special procedure how to provide/configure a specific driver for a DBMS that is not natively supported by WebLogic?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Wilko

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for the quick reply. Below the contents of the console window from starting the Workshop and Server. I'll try your next hint next and let you know about the outcome. As far as I see there were no errors issued by the Server while I tried to connect to Oracle 8.0.6 to upload metadata. (I am not sure whether anything was printed out while I started the server). My address is w.eschebach at vsnlinternational dot com.
    Thanks,
    Wilko

    Hi,
    I have developed a Page Flow application that has more than one entrypoint into
    a given set of pages that perform updates to a database. Depending onwhere the
    user entered the pages from I want to return to that page once the personhas
    completed making the updates. I have been toying with the return to pagebut
    that only works to go to the previous page and no further. I was thinkingI could
    set a variable in the globalApp class that would point to the initialentry page
    but I would have to do that in the .jsp and I haven't quite figured outhow to
    access globalApp from a .jsp. Is this the best approach or are therebetter ways
    of doing what I am trying to do? Has anyone done this sort of thing andhave an
    example?
    Thanks,
    John

    Thanks suggestion from Eddie and Gregory! Actually Eddie's suggestion by putting
    everything in a single line did work, however I encountered a even weirder problem:
    I am using a plugin called Chime Pro from MDL, by putting everything in a single
    line, the plugin is able to render picture on the test brower on server machine,
    however, the picture still won't be rendered on the client browser (on another
    PC with plugin installed), the weirdest thing is that when I start the TCPtrace
    utility:http://www.pocketsoap.com/tcptrace/, the plugin start to work.
    I initially think it may due to the port problem, I switched the server port to
    the common 8080, it still won't work.
    Does anyone in this group use Chime Pro plugin? Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Try putting everything on a single line; it looks like the \n's at the
    end of the taglib definitions are putting returns in the output page.

    Try using the <netui:content/> tag; this simply writes the text to
    the output stream and does not wrap it in an HTML <span>...</span>
    as
    the <netui:label/> tag does.
    Let me know if that helps...

    The NetUI tags use data binding expressions to access data. Oneof
    the ways you could do this is to use the "url" binding context,
    which
    provides access to the first parameter that shows up on the URLfor
    each
    parameter key; this is equivalent to your getParameter(...) call.
    Replace your methodParameter with this:
    <netui-data:methodParameter value="{url.Sample_code}"/>
    Hope that helps...

  • netui:form how do i create Action URL in JavaScript

    hi,
    i want to submit the <netui:form> along with action form data to JPF from the
    java script,
    i can call the action method from the java script but actionForm is not passing
    to JPF....
    pls guide me....
    vijay

    The javascript that you suggested is similar to what we're using. When the onChange
    message is fired, both bits of javascript produce the following url;
    http://localhost:7001/mpsportal/getVersion.do?product_id=1
    This works fine in the weblogic browser but not in portal. If you use an anchor
    to fire the action, portal creates the following url;
    http://localhost:7001/mpsportal/mpsportal.portal?_nfpb=true&portlet_1_1_actionOverride=/portlets/task/getVersion
    So I've tried to put the 'extra bits', namely 'mpsportal.portal?_nfpb=true&portlet_1_1_actionOverride=/portlets/task/'
    into the javascript as below;
    javascript:window.location='mpsportal.portal?_nfpb=true&portlet_1_1_actionOverride=/portlets/task/getVersion.do?product_id='+document.forms[0][getNetuiTagName('product_id')].value;
    When this is run in portal it produces exactly the same url that portal produces
    except it has the parameter tagged onto the end;
    http://localhost:7001/mpsportal/mpsportal.portal?_nfpb=true&portlet_1_1_actionOverride=/portlets/task/getVersion.do?product_id=1
    Unfortunately portal doesn't like the parameter on the end and gives an error
    message 'Unable to find action getVersion.do?product_id=1'. The problem is that
    the value on the form, the product id in this case is not stored when the javascript
    jumps back to the server so it has to be sent in the url.
    If we can find a way of sending these values through in the url without portal
    complaining OR forcing the form to submit its values then its problem solved.

    onChange="javascript:window.location='getVersion.do?product_id='+document.getElementById(getNetuiTagName('product_id',

    When you say the problem is in the onChange() method in the NetUI tag,
    can you elaborate on what you think might be happening?

    We want to get java script to work with a netui:select tag so that whenthe user
    selects it, we populate a different netui:select tag (this requiresa call back
    to weblogic). Nothing to do with forms in Vijay's post!
    Here is a portion of our JSP:
    <td>
    <netui:select dataSource="{actionForm.product_id}"
    optionsDataSource="{pageFlow.taskProduct.taskProductSL}" nullable="false"multiple="false"
    onChange="javascript:window.location='getVersion.do?product_id='+document.forms[0][getNetuiTagName('product_id')].value;"
    tagId="product_id"></netui:select>
    </td>
    This works in the workshop debugger but NOT when we use it via portal(where nothing
    happens). The problem is in the javascript 'onChange' method in thenetui tag...
