Writing a file name

public static void main(String[] args){
try{
     PrintWriter out=new PrintWriter(new
          FileWriter("polygon.out"));
     1) out.println("FILE = "+???_________
//Read header of input data
BufferedReader in= new BufferedReader(new
          FileReader("polygon.inp");
I would like to write name of file("polygon.inp")
to the "polygon.out" file, that is
my output file looks like:
FILE = polygon.inp
NAME= sample1.poly
without saying 1) out.println("FILE = polygon.inp");
assuming I don't know the name of input file.
next question is
In order to put NAME on next line , writing "+r/n"
is o.kay?

1) out.println("FILE = "+???_________when do you know the name of the file?
or is it stored inside a String variable?
next question is
In order to put NAME on next line , writing
ting "+r/n"
is o.kay?Use "\n" for a linebreak.
But if you use println(), java will do a linebreak automatically. If you don't want a linebreak just use print().

  • When importing photos with iBooks Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the imported photo?

    When importing photos with the iBooks Author Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the corresponding imported photo? I have 4,800 stills to import and can't imagine it's necessary to copy and paste the description for each.

    As always, feel free to use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item for features you'd like added in the future, etc.

  • File importer detected an inconsistency in the file stucture of (file name). Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled.

    I have duplicated a project to work on another computer. The project opens fine but when I import new footage/audio files I get this message. "File importer detected an inconsistency in the file stucture of (file name). Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled." Then I can't play my timeline and Premier Pro crashes.  I have to force quit and restart my computer to continue working. What does this error really mean? How do you rectify?
    Our workflow requires that we duplicate projects to make updates because we are frequently revising but need to keep original project unchanged and intact.

    I have a similar issue and message , but occurs when I import AVI clips from OnLocation CS4 to Premier Pro CS4.

  • PDF file transfer writing target file with the same source file name

    Hi to all,
    I want to transfer a PDF file from a SOURCE folder to a TARGET folder. My problem is that I want the target pdf file has the same name of the source pdf file. How can I do this? I have to look for some parameters in the sender or receiver channels?
    Thanks to all.

    Hi Gabriele,
    If you want to FTP the pdf file from source to target directory, use this blog.  It doesn't require any IR devlopment.
    /people/william.li/blog/2006/09/08/how-to-send-any-data-even-binary-through-xi-without-using-the-integration-repository
    Also, In sender and receiver comm channels select "Set/Use Adapter specific message attributes" and "File Name" to get the same file name in the target directory.

  • Writing file content on to mobile phone (need to specify the file name req)

    Hi,
    I have a jsp page which i am trying to execute on a mobile phone. In this page i am trying to open a ServletOutputStream and using this i am trying to write some content on to the phone. But by default the file name is beeing given as the name of the jsp page, so is there any that we can we specify the name of the file explicitly using the program itself (i mean other than the jsp file name). Can some one give me an idea to implement this.
    Here is the code snippet used......
    ServletOutputStream outstr = response.getOutputStream();
    String itemPath = "http://172.10.100.25/file_dwn/funny_pic.gif";
    java.net.URL url = new java.net.URL(itemPath);
    javax.activation.URLDataSource source = new javax.activation.URLDataSource(url);
    javax.activation.DataHandler dataHand = new javax.activation.DataHandler(source);
    String file = itemPath.substring(itemPath.lastIndexOf("/")+1);
    response.setHeader("Content-Type","application/vnd.oma.drm.message;boundary=foo");
    outstr.println();
    outstr.println("--foo");
    outstr.println("Content-Type: " + dataHand.getContentType()+";Name=\""+file+"\"");
    outstr.println("");
    dataHand.writeTo(outstr);
    outstr.println();
    outstr.println("--foo--");
    outstr.println();
    outstr.flush();
    outstr.close();

  • Access denied error while writing a file to the file system - myfileupload.saveas() throws system.unauthorizedexception

    hi,
    as part of my requirement , i have to perform read and  write  operations of  few files [ using the file upload control in my custom visual web part] and on submit button click.
    but while writing these files - with the help of  fileupload control - and when i use  myfileupload.saveas(mylocation);
    - i am saving these files into my D:\ drive of my server , where i am executing my code -, am getting access denied error.
    it throws system.unauthorizedexception.
    i have given full control on that folder where i was trying to store my attached files. and also  after following asp.net forums,
    i have added  iusr group added and performed all those steps such that, the file is saved in my D:\ drive.
    but unfortunately  that didnt happen.
    also
    a) i am trying the code with runwithelevatedprivileges(delegate() )  code
    b) shared the drive within the  d :drive where i want o save the files.
    c) given the full privieleges for the app pool identity- in my case , its
    network service.
    the  other strange thing is that, the same code works perfectly in  other machine, where the same sp, vs 2012  etc were installed .
    would like to know, any other changes/ steps i need to make it on this  server, where i am getting the  error.
    help is  appreciated!

    Hi Friends,
    I have gone through scores of examples and i am failing to understand the right thing to be done to copy a file from one directory to another. Here is my class...So let's see... C:\GetMe1 is a directory on your machine, right? And this is what you are doing with that directory:
    public static void copyFiles(File src, File dest) throws IOException
    // dest is a 'File' object but represents the C:\GetMe1 directory, right?
    fout = new FileOutputStream (dest);If it's a directory, where in your code are you appending the source file name to the path, before trying to open an output stream on it? You're not.
    BTW, this is awful:
    catch (IOException e)
    IOException wrapper = new IOException("copyFiles: Unable to copy file: " +
    src.getAbsolutePath() + "to" + dest.getAbsolutePath()+".");
    wrapper.initCause(e);
    wrapper.setStackTrace(e.getStackTrace());
    throw wrapper;
    }1) You're hiding the original IOException and replacing it with your own? For what good purpose?
    2) Even if you had a good reason to do that, this would be simpler and better:
    throw new IOException("your custom message goes here", e);
    rather than explicitly invokign initCause and setStackTrace. Yuck!

  • Pdf portfolio source file name and date in file details

    Is it possible to import the source file name and extension as well as the source file created date in the portfolio file details?  Need to document source to portfolio in working with 3rd parties that will only have the original source.  Need to document what was converted into pdf as not all files in a directory will successfully convert to pdf.  Sometimes need to convert 100's of files.  Manual entry is inefficient.  the file names and modified dates are displayed on the Combine Files dialog.  is there a way to capture the detail on that page?

    I don't need the detail of when the pdf was added to the portfolio.  I
    need know which dwg or jpg or word file was converted and the original
    created date of that file for control of information.
    That is impossible; sorry. For some *very specific* types of conversion to PDF the pdfx:SourceModified XMP tag will be set to show the last-modification date of the source file (for example DOCX files converted using MS Word), but there will never be a human-readable record of the source filename or its creation date unless you have manually added them as document XMP properties after conversion (this is what the "Custom Properties" dialog is for). To embed source data automatically would raise no end of privacy and security problems for customers, who most certainly do NOT want their recipients seeing details of internal documents.
    Without writing a plugin there's no access to the internal workflow of the Combine Files dialog, so you cannot use a script to read the names and dates of the files *before* conversion and store them automatically in the new PDF Portfolio's Fields array.

  • Overwrite crystal report file name with new version but keep history

    I am writing a Crystal Reports .NET SDK in C# code to upload a crystal report files from its destination to CMC folder on BO XI R2 Platform.
    On "Upload Button" click_event, validate the two check boxes controls named "Keep History", and "Remove History". Once "Keep History" check box is selected, check If the SAME report file name exists in the same destination CMC folder, if Yes, overwrite it BUT Keep the History and all its associated objects like "recurring objects". If "Remove History" is selected, then remove the existing report and upload the new report file name.
    Please provide me some codes on how to do this task. This is definitely a "WIN" - "WIN" effort and contribution to my Team Goals.
    P.S. This is a similar scenario when you are uploading report on BO Enterprise R2 CMC.
    When Uploading a new report to a folder but same report file name exists, the BO System will promt message "Report File Name" already exists. Do you want to Overwrite it?" If Yes, then system will overwrite the file but it will keep the history and recurring objects.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bien

  • "Error writing to file" when installing Oracle9i

    I am fairly new to Oracle and have not been able to install Oracle 9i on my Redhat 7.2 box. In three attempts to install I have encountered the same error at some point, usually early on 5% or 10% into the install.
    The error is:
         "Error in writing to file /usr/oracle/product/9.2.0/olap/wrksht/wks.jar"
    However, it has not happened on the same file each time. I have stopped the installation of that component, but it encounters the same error on other files. I have tried redownloading the oracle disks and reinstalling, but to no avail. I read on one posting that Oracle needs to have glib2.2(rather than glib1.2) installed, so I downloaded it and will be trying that later today. If anyone has encountered this error and knows how to solve it I would appreciate the help. Below I have listed my computer configuration and I have attached the portion of the install log that identifies the error that takes place.

    Hi,
    Did you guys finally find solution to the problem?
    I have been trying to install Oracle 9.2.0.1 on redhat 8.0 box, for ages now. I get the following error first during install
    Error in writing to file libclntsh.so.9.0
    Then it is a series of errors, similar.
    In the end there is the dreaded linking error... for the ins_rdbms.mk sdo_on
    i just cant handle it.
    What the hell is wrong?
    I have done everything right as far as i know... any solutions?
    cheers

  • Problem writing to file

    I'm working on a program that asks for the users name. after that its supposed to pull the current date and time and print that into a file along with the users name.
    my problem is when i open the .txt file i get several characters i dont recogize and then my name at the end.
    Thanks for the help:
    public class CIS314Exam1MarkWellsFrame
    private ObjectOutputStream output;
    public void openFile()
    try
    output = new ObjectOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("guestlog.txt"));
    catch(IOException ioException)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "You do not have access to this file");
    System.exit(1);
    public void insertName()
    try
    Date today = new Date();
    //utput.writeObject(today);
    //String name = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter Name");
    String name = "Mark";
    output.writeObject(name);
    catch(IOException ioException)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Error writing to file");
    return;
    public void closeFile()
    try
    if(output !=null)
    output.close();
    catch(IOException ioException)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Error Closing File");
    System.exit(1);
    System.exit(0);
    }

    This isnt the correct forum for this question. Use tags when posting code.  Post the contents of the .txt file and what unexpected characters you are getting.

  • Writing to file not working, might be 1.4 problem

    Hi:
    I am trying to writing the content of a JTextArea onto a file. The content is pretty big, has newlines. I have been struggling with this in 1.4 and it just doesn't write to the file I specified. In 1.3, it works great. Here is the rough code:
    public void loadDisplayFrame()
         JMenuItem save = new JMenuItem("Save");
         //Save Action Listener
         save.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
            public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)
               String filePath;
               //Save the  gsgl sample file
               if(filePath!=null && filePath.length()>0)
                  try
                  int state = saveChooser.showSaveDialog(null);
                  File f;
                  f = saveChooser.getSelectedFile();
                  if(f!=null && state==JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
                        savedName = f.getPath();
                        if(!savedName.endsWith(".gsgl"))
                           JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Invalid file name", "error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
                        }else
                           processSaving();
                        }catch(Exception e)
                            e.printStackTrace();
                    }else
                        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Please load a file first", "error",
                            JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
              myMenu.add(save);
              JMenuBar displayMenu = new JMenuBar();
              displayMenu.add(myMenu);
      public void processSaving()
             try
                 System.out.println("Saved Name is " + savedName);
               PrintWriter out
               = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(savedName)));
               //name of TextArea is <display>
               String saveCode = display.getText();
              System.out.println(saveCode);
                 out.print(saveCode);
              out.close();
            }catch(Exception e)
              System.out.println("Exception in writing" + e.toString());
         Anyone knows what is going on? I am hoping to use 1.4 for my project. But this thing is not working. Any way around it? Thanx

    Try putting in this line before your close:
    out.flush();
    PrintWriter buffers the data and won't send it until you exit or enough data gets into the buffer to cause a flush. I assume that you are getting a zero byte file. You can also construct a PrintWriter with a boolean to indicate if it should auto flush the buffer.
    Hope that it helps.

  • Writing to file with ObjectOutputStream

    ApartmentWriterProgram asks information about apartments
    and saves it to a file.
    For some reason it doesnt save information, it writes:
    Writing to file "+file+ " failed.
    So there happens IOException in the method write(Apartment apartment).
    Or in the run().
    I dont know what's wrong. Do you?
    public class ApartmentFileHandler extends Object implements Serializable {
        private OutputStream outStream;
        private ObjectOutputStream obStream;
        private String filePath;
            public ApartmentFileHandler(String filePath) {
               this.filePath = filePath;
    /** Writes the given apartment data in the file. If the file already
    exists, the old contents are overwritten.
    Parameters:
    apartment - the apartment to be written in the file
    Throws:
    IOException - if other problems arose when handling the file (e.g. the
    file could not be written)
            public void write(Apartment apartment)
               throws IOException {
               outStream = new FileOutputStream(filePath);
               obStream = new ObjectOutputStream(outStream);
               obStream.writeObject(apartment);
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class ApartmentWriterProgram
    extends Object
        private KeyboardReader keyboardReader;
        private List roomsInList;
        private Room[] rooms;
        private int numberOfRooms;
        private String file;
              public ApartmentWriterProgram()
                this.keyboardReader = new KeyboardReader();
                this.roomsInList = new ArrayList();
                this.rooms = new Room [numberOfRooms];
    /** Runs the writer program. The program asks the user for some
    apartment data and a file name, and saves the data in the file. */
              public void run() {
                try {
                  numberOfRooms = keyboardReader.getInt("Give number of rooms: ");
                  for (int i =1; i<numberOfRooms+1; i++) {
                     String type =keyboardReader.getString("Give " +i+ ". " + "type of the room: ");
                     double area =keyboardReader.getDouble("Give " +i+ ". " + "area of room: ");
                     Room room= new Room(type, area);
                     this.roomsInList.add(huone);
                  roomsInList.toArray(rooms);
                  Apartment apartment = new Apartment(rooms);
                  System.out.println();
                  file = keyboardReader.getString("Give name of the file: ");
                  ApartmentFileHandler handler = new ApartmentFileHandler(file);
                  handler.write(apartment);
               } catch (IOException ioe) {
                 System.out.println("Writing to file "+file+ " failed.");
             public static void main(String[]  args) {
                  ApartmentWriterProgram program = new ApartmentWriterProgram();
                  program.run();
    }

    There is nothing to gain in not putting the throws IOException in the write method, since the exception object will have the information about the actual problem.
    Is this a typo for the this post?                 this.roomsInList.add(huone); should be room nes pas.
    What exception is actually thrown? To find out useSystem.out.println("Exception: " + ioe);Then wonder why you have the AppartmentFileHandler implement Serializable when you are not writing that object to the file.
