Writing in different sheets of a .csv file

Hi,
Is it possible to write values in different sheets of the same workbook in a .csv / .xls file. When I use the following to write it on to the file. If I have many such sets of data to be written is it possible to write it in different sheets of the file (E.g. sheet1 as text1, sheet2 as text2, etc.)
out.write(key + "," + hm.get(key));Please do advise.

Google for Jakarta POI ^ It has features for writing different sheets in XLS.

Why do you not want to use Active X?
One very good reason that I can think of is that MS keeps changing their ActiveX interface with each version of Excel, so code written for one version of Excel using ActiveX may not work for another version of Excel, even though the basic functionality hasn't changed. A perfect example is when MS changed the "Value" property to "Value2". Yeah, that made a whole lot of sense.

Then it's something you're doing. Please post your code. Have you tried a search on this forum for ActiveX and Excel? There have been tons of posts on it, including lots of examples. There's also the Excel thread.

  • Using different codepages in a csv file

    hi guys
I'm working on a project where we load data from arround 50 different acapta system which we want to load in a DWH. The axapata systems export the data, based on a exact schema, to a csv file and send us this file. After that, we us a loop to run the same dataflow for each file (arround 200 files).
Some of this axapta systems are not able to generate correct utf8 files. For most of the system, this is no problem, but we have a problem with some language (Chiniese, Thai, ...).
The File Format definition is on uft8 and we could not change it on the fly (the function is out-gray in the DataFlow). In this case, we should create a DataFlow for each File, which we are sourcing. However, I'm not happy with this.
Do anybody have an idea, how could we solve this case? Is it possible, to change the codepage of the file format on the fly (in the loop)? Is it possible to use a variable for the define the codepage of a Dataflow (it's not in the list).
    Thanks for helpiing

I would run a script on operation system level to get all the files converted to code page you need before file is uploaded into BW.

  • Reading Sheet name from csv file.

    Dear All,
I am doing one program where i am reading contents from .csv file from oracle forms. I m using utl_file for reading the contents from .csv file.
But problem is i am having 5 sheets under .csv file and i want to read fifth sheet's data. how do i jump to particular sheet in csv file. please help me in this case. this is very urgent.
    regards,
    Manish n

I'm not sure of the format of a CSV with sheets : I assume it's a spreadsheet with multiple sheets ?
I know that using Apache POI you can read (and write) native XLS or XLSX spreadsheets and then iterate through the sheets / rows cells. This requires java knowledge but works really well.

  • Simultaneous writing of different DAQmx tasks to TDMS files

    Hi,
I am using a 6368 to moniter several different voltage readings simultaneously on a circuit. I would like to have each of these channels sampling as close to the 2MS/s limit as possible, while writing the data to disk. From what I've gathered, it is not possible to write 2 separate tasks to the same TDMS file without a dramatic decrease in performance. Is there a way to have 2 or more tasks being written simultaneously to 2 respective TDMS files? I've tried this with no luck (both tasks embedded in the same derterministic loop, maybe they need to be in separate loops?), can anybody point me in the right direction? I am assuming there must be a way, otherwise there'd be no point to the simultaneous sampling...
    Thanks!

    Hi Daniel,
Here is my code so far. Right now I am just using 1 output channel to send a repeating voltage signal into a circuit, and measure the voltage from 2 other parts on the circuit and record the data. The ultimate goal is to use all 16 channels at the full 2MS/s/ch, and have a record of the data saved to disk at some point.
I am still new to labview so I suspect there are a number of things I am doing wrong.

  • Calling each sheet in an excel sheet as csv file in a model

    Hi All,
I have an excel sheet as an source having 5 sheets.
So I need to call each sheet in the excel sheet in different models as an csv file.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    tvmk

Using the normal reverse engineering you should be able to get at the data in the sheets. In the definition of the data model for Excel you can put the "table name" - this might be the Named Range - or it can be the (Excel) "system table" called the same as the Sheet. In English Excel, you get one system table called Sheet1$, Sheet2$...
If you make your resource name a variable, then populate the variable with teh appropriate value before accessing the "table", you should be able to access it dynamically. Then all you need do is write a procedure which reads the Excel system tables to query for the sheet names, and then to iterate through them.

You can't have a file open in two processes in windows, ever... it's a facet of windows "simple file sharing".... which is not simple, and does not allow files to be shared.

  • Error while loading a CSV file

    Haii,
While loading a csv file in Open Script I'm facing with the foll: error.
Error loading the CSV file Caused by: java.io.SocketException occurred.
Can anyone please help me sort it out.
    Thank You

    Hi,
Are you creating a table and loading it in Openscript??
If so, can you show the screen shot.
One more information , you can also change the Excel sheet into a CSV file and you can add it as a databank in the Tree view of the Openscript.

  • SQL server 2014 and VS 2013 - BuilInsert task - truncate a field data of a CSV file and insert it to SQL table.

    Hello everyone,
To move data from roughly 50 CSV files in a loop to SQL tables (table per CSV file), I've used BulkInsert task in For each loop container.
Please know, for all different columns of all CSV files, the filed length was specified as varchar(255).
It worked well for the first 6 files but on 7th file, it has found the data in one of the columns of CSV file, which exceeds the limit of 255 characters. I would like to truncate the data and insert the remaining data for this column. In other words, I would
like to insert first 255 characters into table for this field and let the package execute further.
Also, if I would use SQLBulkCopy in Script task, will it be able to resolve this problem? I believe, I would face the similar problem over there too. Although, would like to get confirmation for the same from experts.
Can you please advise how to get rid of this truncation error?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I suggest you add a derived column transformation between Source and Destination, use string functions to extract first 255 characters from the incoming field and send this output to destination field, that ways you can get rid of these sort of issues.

  • Decimal value in CSV file

    Hello everyone,
it is my first post here.
I'm trying to import a CSV file into Numbers, but the result is not quite what I was looking for. First of all, to get Numbers to open the file I had to drag and drop it into Numbers, I didn't find any other way to do it. I was looking for an "import" button that would let me give some kind of instructions on how to open the file, but did not find this button.
In the CSV file, every numbers is separated by a comma, wich is normal, but the decimal portion of a value is also indicated by a comma and when imported it ends up in it's own column. So 4,5 might be 2 columns, the first one with the value 4 and the second one with the value 5, but 4,5 could also be the value 4,5. How do we tell Numbers how it should interpret the different values in a CSV file. Is it possible to say that column 4 is in fact the decimal part of value in column 3?
Hopefully this is clear enough for you to understand.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello
The support of CSV files was described here many times.
If the decimal separator in use on the system is the period, Numbers requires the original CSV format : Comma Separated Values.
If the decimal separator in use on the system is the comma, Numbers requires the alternate CSV format : Semi-colon Separated Values.
Given what you wrote, you are trying to import datas from a file using the original CSV format and the decimal comma.
I know that some experts wrote Python filters to treat such case but I have no reference available at this time.
If you send a sample file to my mailbox, I will try to write an AppleScript deciphering it.
But as I often wrote, CSV is really the worst format ever invented. Why aren't you asking the document's author to use Tab Separated Values format ?

  • Data-Driven test : Compilation should be avoided while running tests in batch when .csv file inputs changed to use them in script

    Hi,
I am running Data-Driven  test on different machines with different  input values in .CSV file in batch mode.we are facing following problem:
Test not considering modified values in  .CSV file until we recompile the test.
Is there any way to avoid this dependency of compilation after updating .CSV file???
    Regards,
    Nagasree.

Assuming the CSV is part of the Visual Studio solution. Open the properties panel for the CSV file from solution explorer. Set "Copy to output directory" to "Copy if newer" or to "Copy always". Some documents recommend
"Copy if newer" but I prefer "Copy always" as occasionally a file was not copied as I expected. The difference between the two copy methods is a little disk space and a little time, but disks are normally big and the time to copy is normally
small. Any savings are, in my opinion, far outweighed by being sure that the file will be copied correctly.

I would like to explain the situation :
A Workbook object had following attributes as :
    boundsheets (ArrayList) : size 7;
    and
    externSheet (ExternSheetRecord object)
    has 'field_1_number_of_REF_sturcutres' = 67
    and a couple of values in 'field_2_REF_structures' are [  ...,  supbookindex =2
    1stsbindex =2
    lastsbindex =2
    , supbookindex =2
    *1stsbindex* =27
    lastsbindex =27, ...]
Error comes when while evaluation, sheets at index 27 (using, 1stsbindex =26 ) is retreived. Since size of boundsheets is only 7, we get an IndexOutOfBoundsException.
I wanted to ask, is it the problem with the Excel that I'm using?
And, Is there any workaround of parsing using the same Excel file?
    Thanks,

  • CSV File Parsing using Nintex 2010 Stucked at "in progress"

As Margriet suggested, since the issue is related to third-party product, we do not have sufficient resource here, it would be better you contact their support engineer.

  • How to export Bi Publisher report into .csv file in different sheets?

    Hi,
I have a report request in BI Publisher to generate the results in different tabs in Excel format with headings etc.
But the users are now asking for the same report in .csv format with the same number of tabs in one file.
Can I do that in .csv file?
    Regards
    Sailaja

Can I do that in .csv file?
    no
    csv is simple plain-text
A comma-separated values (CSV) (also sometimes called character-separated values, because the separator character does not have to be a comma) file stores tabular data (numbers and text) in plain-text form. Plain text means that the file is a sequence of characters, with no data that has to be interpreted instead, as binary numbers. A CSV file consists of any number of records, separated by line breaks of some kind; each record consists of fields, separated by some other character or string, most commonly a literal comma or tab. Usually, all records have an identical sequence of fields.

  • Stage tab delimited CSV file and load the data into a different table

    Hi,
I pretty new to writing PL/SQL packages.
We are using Application express for our development. We get CSV files which is stored as a BLOB content in a table. I need to write a trigger that would get executed once the user the uploads the file and parse thru the Blob content and upload or stage the data in a different table.
I would like to see if there is any tutorial or article that could explain the above process with the example or sample code to do the same. Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
This is slightly unusual but at the same time easy to solve. You can read through a blob using the dbms_lob package, which is one of the Oracle supplied packages. This is presumably the bit you are missing, as once you know how you read a lob the rest is programming 101.
Alternatively, you could write the lob out to a file on the server using another built in package called utl_file. This file can be parsed using an appropriately defined external table. External tables are the easiest way of reading data from flat files, including csv.
I say unusual because why are you loading a csv file into a blob? A clob is almost understandable but if you can load into a column in a table why not skip this bit and just load the data as it comes in straight into the right table?
All of what I have described is documented functionality, assuming you are on 9i or greater. But you didn't provide a version so I can't provide a link to the documentation ;)
