WS + applet how to get a console

Hi,
I am moving my applet to Web Start. The applet has to open a socket connection.
The applet hangs.
How can I open a java console to see the exceptions and log?
Thanx.

You need to go to the Java Control Panel and set "Show Console" in the Advanced tab.
Unlike plugin, each webstart app is it's own process, so each app dosn't add taskbar icon for turning on/off console interactivly. This might be a good optiion anyway, possibly making the console a seperate process combining the console output of all running webstart apps.

  • How to get Port Classifications for Logical Switch via scvmm console

    Hello  All,
We are creating some automation tool based on SCVMM console scripts.
In order to create vm we need to assign port classification  based on Virtual Switch and then logical switch. The problem is that I could not find any way to retrieve port classifications assigned to logical switch (Virtual Port tab in SCVMMs logical
switch properties). There is Get-SCLogicalSwitch that return just name, description and some properties. There is also Get-SCUplinkPortProfileSet which returns Uplink tab data of SCVMMs logical switch properties. But no api to retrieve port classifications
for switch. Get-SCPortClassification also doesn't return switch assignments. Any ideas how to get this data?

  • How to get Java source in applet stack trace to debug Java security manager

How can I get line numbers for Java source in stack traces for my applet? I'm having a problem with my code-signing certificate. On one of my applets, I consistently get a NullPointerException inside the security dialog code in the JDK. As a result, either the "trust this applet" dialog never appears, or even though it appears, it defaults to untrusted because of the exception, so I can't access any local files (and that's a bit of a problem for an applet whose sole purpose is to upload files to our server). I unzipped src.zip in my JDK directory and set the debug flag for my Ant <javac> task as well as set debuglevel to "lines." Anything else? Here's the trace that I'm getting so far. See that after the NullPointerException it assumes that the user has denied permission. If I could read this Java source maybe I could figure out why it hates my code-signing certificate (jarsigner, BTW, never complains when I verify my jar).

  • How to get applets running with Java Plug-in on Win but also on Mac OS X???

I've converted to the use of Java Plug-in for my applets, but I need to have those same applets executable from browsers on Mac OS X platform. Surely this has been done, but I don't see how. The browsers I've tried on Mac OS X (Netscape, IE) don't seem to recognize the <OBJECT> tag used for the java plug-in. I've seen no news about the Java plug-in being ported to Macs. How can one get the same applet to run with the Java plug-in on Windows browsers, and also to run with at least one of the common browsers on Mac OS X? Any help would be SO much appreciated!

Those ten dukes look good to me. But the passing of fifteen months has me thinking you've probably moved on. In any case, here's my effort.
I've been through a trial trying to get my applet, developed with 1.4.1_03, to run on my Mac OS X v.10.2.6 in multiple browsers. I'm posting my results here. Comments and feedback are welcome.
JVM support for 1.4.1 is limited to the Safari browser. All other browsers running in Mac OS X that I've tried ( Camino, Opera, Internet Explorer, Mozilla ) are using the 1.3.1 plugin. According to a bug report by Mozilla on this topic ( see Bugzilla Bug # 197813 http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197813 )
with the release of Apple's version of Sun's Java 1.4.1 the applet programming model has changed, and only Safari has adapted with this change. Other browsers, according to the report, could not because of a lack of documentation. The use of the MRJCarbon plugin offered by Mozilla (here - http://www.mozilla.org/oji/MRJPluginCarbon.html) only allows Mozilla to use the J 1.3.1. And I have not found any information on the Microsoft site about how to get IE 5.2 to recognize the newer version of Java.
Regarding the use of the OBJECT tag in Safari, it is a matter of debate. A current post on this topic exists in the Applet Development forum:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=421&thread=441002
In my experience, I have not been able to determine that Safari v1.0 recognizes the OBJECT tag. My experience is that the APPLET tag is required to run applets in Safari. The Bugzilla report echoes the problem with the BadMagicNumber error that can arise in Safari. Nonetheless, I enjoy Safari and I enjoy Mac OS X.

  • How to get hold of the JavaFX applet in some java code called from it

I have a scenario where I am trying to reuse some java libraries that existed before and used the Applet API. In order to give a new UI to these APIs I am redesigning the front end using JavaFX. I can create instances of java classes from these old libraries. Methods on these old classes take java.applet.Applet as an argument.
When the JavaFX applet is deployed as an applet, how can one get hold of the corresponding Applet object?
    Thanks in advance.

When run as an applet, FX.getArgument("javafx.applet") will return the JApplet instance.

Right. If you are using delegated privs and sudo, make sure that sudo is configured to pass on the PERL5LIB and ORACLE_HOME environment variables at least.

  • How to get verified digital signature for applets?

    Hi All,
I run a small website with an applet ( [http://www.tozsdeasz.hu/grafikonrajzolo/inditas.html|http://www.tozsdeasz.hu/grafikonrajzolo/inditas.html] ). Visitors can load files into the applet, so the applet needs to ask for permission from the user to access files on the visitor's computer. When doing so an unfriendly window pops up telling that the digital signature of the application cannot be verified (you can see it for yourself by the link). Some users keep complaining about it fearing of the security risk.
What is the proper way of getting a properly signed applet? (how to get a verified digital signature?)
    Please help me!
    Best wishes:
    Szabolcs Kelemen

    Thanks for the links.
As far as I saw in the documents I need a "digital certification authority" to sign the jar.
Do you know any of these authorities that is free? The entire application does not worth much, I can't afford expensive certifications.
    Best regards:

You want a database update to trigger an applet refresh? Can't be done.
However, you can have the applet periodically re-query the database and update its display with the information it retrieves. Just kick off a Thread that sleeps for a bit, wakes up, queries the db, updates the display, and goes back to sleep.

  • How to get auto proxy configuration from plugin?

I need to retrieve the name of the client's proxy server to pass it along to my signed applet (because it doesn't seem to be getting the information automatically despite the fact that the java plugin is set to the use the browser settings for proxies).
The Java Plugin loads the proxy server information based on the browser preferences, but I haven't figured out how to retrieve that proxy information from the Plugin itself. Sometimes the javaplugin.proxy.auto.url system property is null, even if the browser (MSIE) is configured to use an auto-configuration script/url for the proxy server configuration. I can see in the Java Console that the plugin knows the auto-config url, so how can I access that property from within my applet?
Even if javaplugin.proxy.auto.url is not null, I don't know how to call the javascript function at that URL from within the applet to get the proxy server host name and port.
Does anyone know how to get the proxy information from the plugin?

Thank you! Indeed, the answer was there, but I hadn't been able to find it earlier (I guess I was searching on the wrong forums). For those who might be interested, here's the thread that helped:
