XI ArticleThread

Hi XI SDNers,
We really see dynamic community action here in the XI forum as well as in the XI blogging sphere.  XI SDN folks contribute, respond, critique, and support each other as you well know.  We would like to use this thread to offer our article and code sample contributors the opportunity to get some healthy community feedback as well.
To start the ball rolling, I will post a link to a newly published article each week, make it "sticky" and thus give the community the chance to "weigh in".  Incidentally, you will find contributor's orignial articles on the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/xi">XI Homepage</a>
I'll feature the author's name and article here in the thread and you are welcome to give the author constructive feedback.  This will help us to see if we are promoting contents that provide value.  By the way, if you see an <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/xi">XI Homepage</a> article that is not mentioned here, feel free to critique that as well.
Here's the first one then: Bhanumurthy Thirumala's <a href="https://sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/ae388f45-0901-0010-0f99-a76d785e3ccc">ABAP-Based HTTP Client for Messages to SAP XI</a>
Please comment and check the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/xi">XI Homepage</a> for other articles of interest.

Hi,
although the author is not yet mentioned here, i want to comment on the blog <a href="/people/prasad.illapani/blog/2006/03/07/sap-partners-developing-content-using-xi30">Steps for SAP Partners Developing Content Using XI 3.0</a> of Prasad Illapani.
The blog is really good giving a starting point on what is necessary to develop XI content. It mentions that naming conventions should be used, that clear documentation needs to be provided etc. These are all good and valid points everybody developing XI content should take into account.
However when i look at Xi content from SAP itself, i can see a lot of the suggestions and recommendations not being followed SAP internally.
For example there is no naming convention (or it is not enforced) for SAP content, so each package follows its own rules if at all. Then there is the documentation: i've seen good documentation and i've seen really bad documentation which contained really big errors where you had to be guessing what you would be required to do.
As partners we have to go through the certification process so SAP can ensure the quality of the developments we deliver, but SAP internally there seems no QA process be in place. So i would like to suggest, that Prasad's article should be more detailed (e.g. actually put in some naming conventins) and be communicated SAP internally for future content development.
Now that was not to much on the blog but more on a topic that bothered me for quite a while, but the blog is a good point to start a discussion on this.
Regards
Christine
