XML and Images stored in Oracle 8i

I have been able to store images within an acle 8i database using both LONG RAW and OrORDSYS.ORDIMGB datatypes. I can use Forms and Reports to access these datatypes but now wish to include them in WEB products such as XSQL or PL/SQL.
Using XSQL I only see the image code - how can I turn it back into an image to display on my WEB page?.
Will iFS be the next logical solution so that a pointer is stored in my table to the image in the file system?

DBMS_XMLQuery was introduced with Oracle 9i
as you can read here.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/A91202_01/901_doc/appdev.901/a89852/pwnew.htm#969685
That means in order to use this functionality you need to upgrade your database to 9i

    I've tried to follow the instruction given by Oracle LiveDemo, but it came with failure. (the image or document won't show up).

  • Spry XML and image map

    Hi all-
    I'm new to using spry and xml, but not new to xhtml and layout, having said that. I'm trying to store file paths in my xml and parse that xml to repace <href> tags in an image map. For example (the actual cooridnates in the map are just made up for the example below, the actual map has 88 locations and very detailed coordinates, as it is a state map):
    <head>
    <script src="../SpryAssets/xpath.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="../SpryAssets/SpryData.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../files/research/counties_census.xml", "ohio");
    </head>
    <body>
    <div spry:region="ds1">
    <img src="../images/CountyMap.gif" width="565" height="611" usemap="#Map">
            <map id="Map" name="Map">
              <area shape="rect" coords="103,156,155,202" href="../files/research/{Location}" />
              <area shape="rect" coords="216,156,286,210" href="../files/research/{OtherLocation}" />
            </map>
    </div>
    </body>
    Am I just making a syntax error or is this just outside the scope of what I can use spry for? Any help is appreciated.
    thanks in advance

    I have one more question. What you gave me worked like a charm btw. Thanks a lot. Onto the question:
    I'd like to use the same XML to also power a drop down menu, here's a snippet of the XML/XHTML below. I can't seem to get it to work on the drop down, the image map works great.

  • How to deal with images stored in oracle

    hi,
    can anyone help me to solve this issue please:
    in fact i am developping a swing based standalone application based on a TCP/IP client-server connection, so the point is to display on my frame for each student his information and also his personal picture
    first step : storing the personal picture into the oracle database from a specefic frame that allows to specify each NEW student's profile and his photo.
    step 2: as needed, a specefic frame allows to retrieve all the information related to a student and his photo to ( in a jlabel or other swing componenet)
    how to deal with this storing and then the retriving from the oracle DB
    any help please!

    If I understand well your problem, you need your client java application to store and retrive information from an oracle DB.
    This can be done via JDBC.
    Here's the tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Database/JDBC20Intro/JDBC20.html
    Look at
    http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Database/JDBC20Intro/JDBC20.html#JDBC2018
    for storing and retriving binary data (like java serialized objects (Images for example))

  • View XML / HTML  Documents Stored in Oracle DB

    I need to build an application where a user can enter in basic query criteria and I need to return the appropriate XML (transformed by a specified XSL stylesheet) or static HMTL document stored as XMLTYPE or CLOB in the DB. Is it feasible to build such an application in Apex or do I need to build a JSP based application?
    Any other options?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    It is quite feasible (and quite easy) to do this via XMLDB. You can even create an Oracle Text index on the XML (or binary for Word documents, pdf etc) for fast case insensitive searching. Look at the XMLDB documentation, especially the sql access to the resource_view.

  • Dw cs5.5 + Phonegap + spry dataset xml and images links broken

    Hi all,
    I'm building an app using DW CS5.5 and Phonegap.
    This is what I've done:
    created pages using the starter template (local)
    I created a php page that run a query on a mysql database and output an xml file
    I created a spry dataset using the php (see 2) file as data file
    It works locally and on-line on my website.
    But if I package an app using the android sdk from dw CS5.5 I have problems: all images are all broken. It seems that the link to image is not correct.
    In fact, all images are not using absolute path (http://www.mysite.com/images/...) but are set this way: /images/....
    So, my question is: have I to specify all images sources using absolute paths to make it work when packaged?
    TIA for any reply
    tony

    Hi Gramps,
    I just solved the problem with image paths (I made all src paths absolute).
    There is only one problem left: I opened another discussion: http://goo.gl/ysNDH
    But here the link you (correctly) need to trobleshoot the problem): http://www.camar.it/newsxml
    It should work on desktop browsers but it fails when I pack the app for android and install it on an android smartphone: I get "error loading page" when clicking on any details link (the button label is: DETTAGLI) on the news page.

  • Servlets and JSPs stored within Oracle 8i

    Folks,
    Does anyone know when Oracle will release support to servlets

    Alright well looks like I'm stuck now.
    This seems more like a PL\SQL question though. If I want to return 2 or more values do I use function or a procedure? here's the code I made:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION sign_in(username VARCHAR(20), userpassword VARCHAR(20))
    RETURN NUMBER IS id_num NUMBER, user_type VARCHAR(1);
    BEGIN
    SELECT * INTO id_num, user_type
    FROM ID_MASTER idm, PERSON prs
    WHERE USERNAME = username
    AND USER_PASSWORD = userpassword
    AND idm.ID_NUM = prs.ID_NUM;
    RETURN id_num, user_type;
    END;
    now according to Oracle this is an invalid function. But the error message doesn't say much. Basically I want to pass 2 parameters to use for a query and return 2 variables from the result of the query. Am I suppose to use a procedure?
    If I pass paramters do which string do I use to prepareCall: "{ ? = CALL sign_in (?, ?) }" or do I use the "{ CALL sign_in (?, ?) }"
    But my problem right now is how to make the proper stored procedure. I'd be very much obliged to anyone who can give a sample. Thank you all for your time!

  • XML and  images

    Have a quick question. How can you load an image to a dynamic

    using a txt file and loadvars if you have html tags it will
    display

    var loadstuff = new LoadVars();
    loadstuff.onLoad = function(success) {

    in xml, even if you have the htm img src tag, it will just
    display the text and not the image
    descriptionbox.htmlText = true;
    myXML = new XML();
    myXML.load("sample.xml");

    myXML.onLoad = readus;
    function readus(){
    people = myXML.firstChild;
    personalphoto = election.firstChild;
    descriptionbox.text = personalphoto;
    besides using a load movie is there anyway to put an image in
    a dynamic text box?
    thanks

    Hi,
    in the XML example you set the text property of the field
    instead of the
    HTMLText. Isn't that it?

  • How do I load property files and images stored in the jar file?

    Hi
    So, if I have a structure like this:
    /com.myfirm.myproject.SomeClass
    /images/
    /properties/
    And I pack this structure into a jar file, how do I then access the images under "/images/" and the property files under "/properties/"? A link to a good tutorial on this would be perfect, or a description/hint/howto :)

    Im having problems even loading direcly from the directory..? I have this structure:
    src (source dir)
    classes (classes dir)
    lang/textRb_en_US.properties (the file I want to load)
    Then I have this code:
    Locale currentLocale = new Locale("en", "US");
    ResourceBundle textRb = ResourceBundle.getBundle("/lang/textRb", currentLocale);But it gives me a "java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name /lang/textRb, locale en_US". I start my application from within Eclipse, and I have tried to move "lang/textRb_en_US.properties" into the classes dir, but same error.
    Im confused as to there Java looks for ressources, and I need this to work no matter where I put my classes/jar. Could you help me out here?

  • Extracting Tiff files stored into Oracle 8.1.7 as Long Raw

    I have around 1 million tiff images stored into Oracle 8.1.7. The field type is Long Raw. The frontend used to store images into the database is SQL Windows 5 from Gupta Corporation, now called Centura. I guess the images are stored in binary format in the database. I need to extract these images at the OS level. Each Rec_no contains one tiff file in database. The table structure is as follows:
    Rec_no Number(8)
    image Long Raw
    My goal is to convert these tiff files to JPG files so that my web application written in ASP.Net can use them and show in IE. The files are required to be converted to jpg as IE does not have native support for showing the tiff files(I hope I am not wrong in this assumption). Can i convert these tiffs to jpg directly inside the oracle database??? or i need to extract them first, save at OS level, convert them and then write back to the database?? Pls give code examples if possible. I plan to migrate the database also from 8i to 10g shortly and this is one of the migration taks. Thanks in advance...

  • I'd like to load images using XML and Java - hints??

    I have a XML files that are created on a timed basis....they describe a photo and point to a dir where the photo is stored...like...
    <image>
    <user>bill</user>
    <img>photo.jpg</img>
    <img_dir>'/tmp/photos'</img_dir>
    </image>
    I'd like to write a Java program that parses the XML and loads the images, data into Oracle.
    Suggestions on Oracle tools, downloads that will help me accomplish this???
    Thanks!

    I pass a URL and then when I parse the XML I download the file from the URL.

  • New to XML and Oracle

    Just trying to clarify some issues as I try and learn about XML, and specifically how it integrates into the DB.
    1 - Is there a way with Oracle tools for me to get an XSD of an existing 9i relational schema? We are not currently using the XML DB, but our middleware developers would like to have an up to date XSD to use for their internal mapping.
    2 - Is there any way that I can keep that XSD up-to-date automatically, so I get a new one whenever the schema gets updated?
    3 - If I wanted to investigate storing XML docs within the DB in native XML format, I need to have an XML DB, correct? Is this DB construct maintained seperatelly from my "normal" relational schema? or are they kept in sync by Oracle?
    I know these may all be real basic questions, but as I said, I'm new to XML and Oracle. I am reading as much as I can, but there are a lot of docs out there.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi
    1. On my opinion such a tool doesn't exists. Some parts can be implemented elsewhere, but not as described by you... e.g. with XSU if you specify the parameter "withschema" the XSD of the executed statement is generated. Another example is to use DBMS_METADATA to dump the data dictionary in XML (but not XSD, of course you could write your own XSLT to do this transformation...).
    2. -
    3. If you use XSD-based tables the XSD and the relational model are stored separately in the data dictionary. Therefore if you change the XSD you have to drop/create the XSD-based table... no schema evolution yet.
