XML input stored in normalized tables
We have a system in place already, but have just found out that we'll be receiving some files intended for dataloads in XML format.
Where should I start looking for documentation on how to process these files? Most of the docs I've seen so far have to do with storing XML data in XML format. Is that where I'd start, perhaps using a GLOBAL TEMP TABLE which would hold data as XML, and then move the data from that table to the permanent table using SQL?
Clueless,
Chuck
In 9i it is possible to shred the XML documents into normalised tables. Using the Oracle approach is a much better approach than writing your own code to navigate the DOM: I did that in an 8i project and it's some of the most complicated, least maintainable code I ever churned out. Although I imagine the 9i support for XPath might make the task easier.
Cheers, APC

Load XML records in a normal table
Good afternoon all,
I have a very simple question:
I get a XML file and want to store that data in my Oracle database in a normal table.
I have seen so many answers everywhere, varying from LOBs and using XDB etc.
What i don't understand is why it is so difficult.
When i want to load a CSV file in a table I make a very small Control File CTL and from the command prompt / command line I run the SQL Loader.
Control file:
load data
infile 'import.csv'
into table emp
fields terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
( empno, empname, sal, deptno )
command:
sqlldr user/password@SID control=loader_Control_File.ctl
Next I connect to the database and run SQL query:
select * from emp;
and i see my data as usual, I can make Crystal Reports on it, etc etc
I really don't understand why this can't be done with an XML file
Oracle know the fields in the table EMP
The xml file has around every field the <EMPNO> and </EMPNO>
Can't be easier than that I would say.
I can understand Oracle likes some kind of description of the XML table, so reference to a XSD file would be understandable.
But all examples are describing LOB things (whatever that is)
Who can help me to get XML data in a normal table?
Thanks
FrankHi Frank,
What i don't understand is why it is so difficult.Why do you think that?
An SQL*Loader control file might appear very small and simple to you, but you don't actually see what happens inside the loader itself, I guess a lot of complex operations (parsing, datatype mapping, memory allocation etc.).
XML, contrary to a CSV format, is a structured, well standardized language and could handle far more complex documents than row-organized CSV files.
I think it naturally requires a few extra work (for a developer) to describe what we want to do out of it.
However, using an XML schema is not mandatory to load XML data into a relational table.
It's useful if you're interested in high-performance loading and scalability, as it allows Oracle to fully understand the XML data model it has to deal with, and make the correct mapping with SQL types in the database.
Furthermore, now with 11g BINARY XMLType, performance has been improved with or without schema.
Here's a simple example, loading XML file "import.xml" into table MY_EMP.
Do you find it difficult? ;)
SQL> create or replace directory test_dir as 'D:\ORACLE\test';
Directory created
SQL> create table my_emp as
2 select empno, ename, sal, deptno
3 from scott.emp
4 where 1 = 0
5 ;

SQL> insert into my_emp (empno, ename, sal, deptno)
2 select *
3 from xmltable('/ROWSET/ROW'
4 passing xmltype(bfilename('TEST_DIR', 'import.xml'), nls_charset_id('CHAR_CS'))
5 columns empno number(4) path 'EMPNO',
6 ename varchar2(10) path 'ENAME',
7 sal number(7,2) path 'SAL',
8 deptno number(2) path 'DEPTNO'

Smartform XML output stored in which table?
Hi Folks,
I wanted to know the table where SAP stores the XML output of a Smartform...
If not tables , please let me know where the output is stored....
Thanks
ReddyHello Reddy,
I suppose you are you calling Smartform execution with this kind of call (more or less):
CALL FUNCTION v_fm_name
EXPORTING
ARCHIVE_INDEX = s_archive_index
ARCHIVE_INDEX_TAB = s_archive_index_tab
ARCHIVE_PARAMETERS = s_archive_params
CONTROL_PARAMETERS = s_control_param
MAIL_APPL_OBJ = s_mail_appl_obj
MAIL_RECIPIENT = s_mail_recipient
MAIL_SENDER = s_mail_sender
OUTPUT_OPTIONS = s_output_options
USER_SETTINGS = 'X'
LV_SALES = p_sales
LV_PADDR = v_address_num
LV_ADRNR = v_adrnr
LV_EQUNR = v_equnr
LV_SERNR = v_sernr
IMPORTING
DOCUMENT_OUTPUT_INFO = s_doc_output_info
JOB_OUTPUT_INFO = s_job_output_info
EXCEPTIONS
FORMATTING_ERROR = 1
INTERNAL_ERROR = 2
SEND_ERROR = 3
USER_CANCELED = 4
OTHERS = 5.
You can get the document XML in the IMPORTING parameter JOB_OUTPUT_INFO, for example to download the XML document you can do something like this:
LOOP AT s_job_output_info-xsfdata INTO xsf_line.
l_line = xsf_line.
APPEND l_line TO l_table.
ENDLOOP.
CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_DOWNLOAD'
EXPORTING
filename = 'C:\temp\test.xml'
TABLES
data_tab = l_table.
I am not sure the data is stored internally in any databse table (in addition to be return in the JOB_OUTPUT_INFO parameter). -
Fetch XML data stored in database table column dynamically
Hi All,
I am working as a SQL guy but never worked on XML in SQlbefore.
During some project work , we need to fetch value from xml stored in database column.
Problem is rowsof xml column arebit different and have different values.
Could anybody help me to build something dynamic to fetch all values from each row .
My data look like:

Cause the solution depends on your actual structure. Otherwise take a look at the

Use XML files stored in directory of Application server as a input for XI ?
I have a scenario that there is a xml file stored in sap application server for example /inf/ERQ/XML/XXX.xml which i want to use it as an input for XI. I know that there is an adapter in XI for getting xml file stored in normal path but in my situation it's in application server of SAP so i don't know how to do this.
Any solution or example for this? Thank you in advance.
Best regardsHi,
We can read this file through FILE adapter with FTP protocol, before that i think need permission from basis for access. Configure source(according to xml format) and target structure according to your requirement. But one thing should remember in XI/PI sour/target XML formats should contain Message type name & namespace name else it can't work.

Read xml-structure from a xml-document stored in a xmltype-column?
Hello,
I have several xml-documents stored in a table with a xmltype-column.
Is it possible to read the structure of one xml-document? I need to know what data are exists in the xml-documents.
I had read some hours here, but I dont find a suitable solution for that.
To make a example, what I need:
I have stored the following xml-document in the table:
<?xml version = '1.0'?>
<ROWSET>
<ROW num="6">
<EMPLOYEE_ID>105</EMPLOYEE_ID>
<FIRST_NAME>David</FIRST_NAME>
<LAST_NAME>Austin</LAST_NAME>
<EMAIL>DAUSTIN</EMAIL>
<PHONE_NUMBER>590.423.4569</PHONE_NUMBER>
<HIRE_DATE>6/25/1997 0:0:0</HIRE_DATE>
<JOB_ID>IT_PROG</JOB_ID>
<SALARY>4800</SALARY>
<MANAGER_ID>103</MANAGER_ID>
<DEPARTMENT_ID>60</DEPARTMENT_ID>
</ROW>
</ROWSET>
I need to return the following:
ROWSET
...ROW
......EMPLOYEE NUMBER
......FIRST_NAME VARCHAR2
......DEPARTMENT_ID NUMBER
Regards,
MarkHi,
I was on a wrong way. The datatype is not stored in xml, this was a mistake from me.
I needed something to printout some values from a xml-file. This xml-file was generated bei MS Excel. The data are in /Workbook/Worksheet/Table/Cell and I didnt know how to access it.
I write for that the following:
DECLARE
v_xml XMLType;
v_doc dbms_xmldom.DOMDocument;
v_node dbms_xmldom.DOMNode;
type t_values is table of varchar2(2000) index by binary_integer;

v_table t_table;
procedure node_output (v_node in out dbms_xmldom.DOMNode)
is
v_nodelist1 DBMS_XMLDOM.DOMNodeList;
v_nodelist2 DBMS_XMLDOM.DOMNodeList;
v_anzahlnodes number;
v_anzahlrows number;
v_node_c dbms_xmldom.DOMNode;
v_xmlmitarbeiterid number;
begin
v_nodelist1 := dbms_xmldom.GETCHILDNODES(v_node);
v_anzahlrows := DBMS_XMLDOM.GETLENGTH(v_nodelist1);
if v_anzahlrows = 0 or DBMS_XMLDOM.GETNODENAME(v_node) = 'Table'
then
if v_anzahlrows > 0
then
for i1 in 0..v_anzahlrows - 1
loop
v_node := dbms_xmldom.Item(v_nodelist1,i1);
v_nodelist2 := dbms_xmldom.GETCHILDNODES(v_node);
v_anzahlnodes := DBMS_XMLDOM.GETLENGTH(v_nodelist2);
for i2 in 0..v_anzahlnodes - 1
loop
v_node := dbms_xmldom.Item(v_nodelist2,i2);
v_node_c := dbms_xmldom.GETFIRSTCHILD(v_node);
v_node_c := dbms_xmldom.GETFIRSTCHILD(v_node_c);
v_values(i2) := DBMS_XMLDOM.GETNODEVALUE(v_node_c);
end loop;
v_table(i1) := v_values;
end loop;
for i1 in 1..v_anzahlrows - 1
loop
select SEQ_XMLMITARBEITER.nextval into v_xmlmitarbeiterid from dual;
for i2 in 1..v_table(i1).count - 1
loop
dbms_output.put_line(v_table(i1)(i2));
end loop;
end loop;
end if;
else
v_node := dbms_xmldom.GETFIRSTCHILD(v_node);
for i in 0..v_anzahlrows - 1
loop
v_node := dbms_xmldom.Item(v_nodelist1,i);
node_output(v_node);
end loop;
end if;
end;
BEGIN
select inhalt into v_xml FROM xmlimport WHERE name = 'F23973/mitarbeiter.xml';
v_doc := dbms_xmldom.newDOMDocument(v_xml);
v_node:= dbms_xmldom.makeNode(dbms_xmldom.getDocumentElement(v_doc));
node_output(v_node);
END;
This gives me all data from a xml-Excel-file. Is there a better way to do that? I have Oracle 10.2.

How to change stored procedure with Table Valued Parameter
I am not sure how to change the normal stored procedure with Table Value Parameter.Do I have to create a separate Table or do I have to create a datatype. Can you please help me with this
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspInsertorUpdateINF]
@dp_id char(32),
@dv_id char(32),
@em_number char(12),
@email varchar(50),
@emergency_relation char(32),

@status char(20),
@em_id char(35),
@em_title varchar(64),
@date_hired datetime
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
MERGE [dbo].[em] AS [Targ]
USING (VALUES (@dp_id, @dv_id , @em_number, @email, @emergency_relation, @option1, @status, @em_id, @em_title, @date_hired))
AS [Sourc] (dp_id, dv_id, em_number, email, emergency_relation, option1, status, em_id, em_title, date_hired)
ON [Targ].em_id = [Sourc].em_id
WHEN MATCHED THEN
UPDATE
SET dp_id = [Sourc].dp_id,
dv_id = [Sourc].dv_id,
em_number = [Sourc].em_number,
email = [Sourc].email,
emergency_relation = [Sourc].emergency_relation,
option1 = [Sourc].option1,
status = [Sourc].status,
em_title = [Sourc].em_title,
date_hired = [Sourc].date_hired
WHEN NOT MATCHED BY TARGET THEN
INSERT (dp_id, dv_id, em_number, email, emergency_relation, option1, status, em_id, em_title,date_hired)
VALUES ([Sourc].dp_id, [Sourc].dv_id, [Sourc].em_number, [Sourc].email, [Sourc].emergency_relation, [Sourc].option1, [Sourc].status, [Sourc].em_id, [Sourc].em_title, [Sourc].date_hired);
END;It's not clear how you would change the procedure. But assuming that you want to replace the existing scalar parameters with tabular input, this is how you would do it. You first create a table type:
CREATE TYPE Insertor_type AS TABLE
(dp_id char(32),
dv_id char(32),
em_number char(12),
email varchar(50),
emergency_relation char(32),
option1 char(16),
status char(20),
em_id char(35),
em_title varchar(64),
date_hired datetime)
Then you change the procedure header:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspInsertorUpdateINF] @tvp Insertor_type READONLY AS
And finally you change the USING clause:
USING (SELECT dp_id, dv_id , em_number, email, emergency_relation, option1, status, em_id, em_title, date_hired
FROM @tvp) AS [Sourc] ON [Targ].em_id = [Sourc].em_id
The rest is fine as it is.

i am new to Oracle and new to SQL
i am trying to update XML data stored in CLOB cloumn,data is stored with the follwoing format
<attrs><attr name="name"><string>Schade</string></attr></attrs>
i am using the following query for updating the value
UPDATE PRODUCT p SET ATTRIBUTES_nl_nl=UPDATEXML(XMLTYPE.createXML(ATTRIBUTES_nl_nl),'/attrs/attr[@name="name"]/string/text()','Schade').getClobVal() WHERE p.sku='000000000000040576_200911-5010057'
this query is working fine but it changing the data to the following format
<attrs><attr name="name">Schade</attr></attrs>
some how it is ommiting the <string> tag from it, i am unable to figure it out whats the reason.
any help in this regard will b e much appriciated
Thanks in Advance

You should have created your own thread for this, and included database version.
This works for me on 11.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.5 :
SQL> create table t_org ( xml_clob clob );
Table created

5 <ASSIGNMENT>
6 <OAVendorLocation> </OAVendorLocation>
7 <Vendorid>1</Vendorid>
8 </ASSIGNMENT>
9 </Entity>
10 </Message>'
11 );
1 row inserted
SQL> commit;
Commit complete
SQL> select '*' ||
2 extractvalue(xmltype(xml_clob),'/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation')
3 || '*' as result
4 from t_org;
RESULT
SQL> update t_org set xml_clob =
2 updatexml(xmltype(xml_clob),
3 '/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation/text()','LONDON').getClobVal()
4 ;
1 row updated
SQL> select '*' ||
2 extractvalue(xmltype(xml_clob),'/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation')
3 || '*' as result
4 from t_org;

*LONDON*
Does the OAVendorLocation really have a whitespace value?
If not then it's expected behaviour, you're trying to update a text() node that doesn't exist. In this case, the solution is to use appendChildXML to create the text() node, or update the whole element.
Is it your real document? Do you actually have some namespaces? -

For the rest the below works in both versions but used on an xml having a 10000 <CdtTrfTxInf> on 11g it took 9 seconds and was killed because no answer was produced after 30 minutes on 10g. A colleague using java loaded the relational table in 34 seconds on 10g and produced the relational table on 11g in just 5 seconds.
The 10g version is surviving with no xmldb installed and there are rumors our thinking heads didn't succeed to deactivate it on 11g yet.
Any suggestion concerning alternate ways to produce a relational table from an xmltype located in a clob column of a relational table are welcome
(looking at CLOB in XML to Normal table Best approach? I thought too many xmltable would have to be used)

EtbinHi,
It's a long time, no see since my last dealing with xml and no luck to have an attribute value returned into the relational table.When you use this :
<Ccy>{$r/IntrBkSttlmAmt/@Ccy}</Ccy>That doesn't set the value of the Ccy element with the attribute value, but actually add the attribute Ccy to the element Ccy, which results in
<Ccy Ccy="???"></Ccy>Knowing that, you have three options :
1) Leaving the XQuery as it is and using this instead in the COLUMNS clause :
ccy varchar2(50) path '/rw/Ccy/@Ccy',2) Modifying the XQuery to get the atomic value out of the attribute (using the fn:data function) :
<Ccy>{fn:data($r/IntrBkSttlmAmt/@Ccy)}</Ccy>3) Simplifying the whole thing, something like :
select v.instrid, v.endtoendid, v.txid, v.cd, v.ccy,
replace(v.intrbksttlmamt,'.',',') as intrbksttlmamt, v.chrgbr, v.bic1, v.nm1, v.adrline11, v.adrline12, v.ctry1, v.iban1,
v.bic2, v.bic3, v.nm2, v.adrline21, v.adrline22, v.ctry2, v.iban2, v.cdtrref, v.addtlrmtinf
from the_data w,
xmltable(xmlnamespaces(default 'urn:iso:std:iso:20022:tech:xsd:pacs.008.001.01'),

Your PL/SQL code doesn't produce a valid XML document.
In the XML grammar, "&" is a special character and must be escaped using the character entity "&amp;".
If you were using standard methods to build XML from Oracle (SQL/XML functions for instance), I'm sure you wouldn't have this error.
Please show us the PL/SQL code you're using to produce this XML output and we'll be able to help you further. -
XML SCHEMA registration for XML TYPE (storing XML files in Oracle 10g)
I have created the XML Schema for the XML file stored in Oracle 10g and also added this Schema into the database. I have related that schema with the column in the table which contains the XML file. When i execute the query to fetch the data from the stored file i am getting a blank resultset. Is registering the XML Schema is necessary, if yes then please let me know the process of doing it. I have tried following steps to register Schema, but it is not working
Step1:
DECLARE
v_return BOOLEAN;
BEGIN
v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/');
v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/');
v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/xsd/');
v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/messages/');
v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/employees/');
COMMIT;
END;
STEP 2:
Connecting To XML DB
Step3:
Register XML schema
I am failing to execute step number 2 and hence not able to register the schema also.<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by sudeepk:

Link multiple XML files stored in oracle database
Link multiple XML files
Can any one give some code example regarding my issue:
If I have for example file1.xml stored in one relational table and another file2.xml stored in another table ….etc
And I want to put link and reference which will make me able to link these files and make query or insert…etc
May be I need to use Xlink, Xpoiner or Xinclude . But if this is the solution to this problem please can you give a simple example that will help to understand the solution especially that I want to develop my project in oracle and I will register xml schema to insert the xml files in the database
Thanks lots and I am waiting for your solutionno answer for my question
is this thread is a write place or I have to move my query to another part of the forum

HI Experts,
I am working on one Webdynpro Application where I am displaying Vendor information in normal table.
But I wanted to make LIFNR field of the table as Hyper Link and when I click on that particular LIFNR I wanted navigate that to XK03 transaction. Please help me out from this...
When I searched in SDN I am geeting examples to create Hyper Links in ALV but I wanted to create that for normal table field.
Thanks
BasanagoudaHi,
As you kept the Link to action.. Go to the Outline of the view and navigate to the to the newly inserted Link to action UI element in the View. Now see the properties window. In the properties you will find the category Events and in this you will have OnAction. You can create a new on action by clikcing on the button which is next to the input filed.
This will create a method and in this implementaion you can write the logic to navigate to the Transaction.
