XML queries in ORACLE 10gR1 vs ORACLE 10gR2
Hi
in the research project where I'm involved in, we have two databases. One is the test database, upgraded recently in ORACLE 10gR2 and the production database in ORACLE 10gR1.
We have the same table with the same data in both test and production database.
I can run successfully the query and get result in test db ORACLE 10gR2:
SELECT XMLQuery('declare namespace
mpeg7="urn:mpeg:mpeg7:schema:2001";for $i in /mpeg7:Mpeg7
return $i' PASSING xmlcolumn RETURNING CONTENT) FROM
XMLTable WHERE existsNode(xmlcolumn,
'//@id="2005"',
'xmlns="urn:mpeg:mpeg7:schema:2001"') = 1;
but if I try the same query in production db ORACLE 10gR1, I get the error
return $i' PASSING xml_column RETURNING CONTENT) FROM
FEHLER in Zeile 3:
ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis
Is there any difference in the queries syntax between R1 and R2?
What should I change in my query?
Please help. I’m really facing with some problems with XML storage and retrieve.
Any kind of help will be appreciable
Best regards,
Evanela
Hi Evanela,
XQuery is available from 10gR2 and higher - the XQuery functionality
is just not available in 10gR1 ...
Does this help ...?

How to validate XML Digital Signature with XML DB (o PL/SQL) in Oracle 11g
Hi,
Do you know if there is possibility to validate XML Digital Signature using XML DB (or PL/SQL) in Oracle 11g?
Let say I have CLOB/XMLType containing Digitally Signed XML, and I want to validate, that thsi is proper signature. I also have public key of signer (I could store it in CLOB or file or Oracle wallet).
Is it possible to do?
If there is need to install additional component - then which one?
Regards,
PawełHi,
this is what i got from someone...
but the links he gave are not opening up...
u have to place a picture there and have to load the digital signatures as Jpegs on to the server to OA top
and have to refer them in the XML for dynamically get the signature on the reports
when u select the properties of the picture placed in the XML template,
there will be one tab with "URL"... in that u have to give the path for that jpegs
Pls refer the following documents for enabling digital signature on pdf documents.
http://iasdocs.us.oracle.com/iasdl/bi_ee/doc/bi.1013/e12187/T421739T481159.htm#5013638 (refer section 'Adding or Designating a Field for Digital Signature'

Is the BI Publisher installed on your instance of version 10.1.3.4 or higher?
Pls procure a digital signature as soon as possible. The process can take time. OR we could use any certificate that you already might have OR generate a certificate using Oracle Certificate Authority for demo. -

How can I refer an xml Schema that was registred in Oracle xml DB, from other xml schema?
I have the follow schema,:

[Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-31011: XML parsing failed
Hi,
I have got the following error when i tired to upload an XML file in my application. My application will insert the XML file in to Oracle 10g data base table. (Our DB server is Oracle 10g).
The error is as follows:-
[BEA][Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-31011: XML parsing failed
ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
LPX-00004: internal error "MultiChar overflow"
Error at line 20795
ORA-06512: at "SYS.XMLTYPE", line 254
ORA-06512: at line 1
The XML file contains more than 90,000 lines in it. Please help.
Thanks!
Siva K.Is this a specific problem with 10G release? We are using 10.2.0.4.0.
Using CLOB, We think that this may hit the performance of the application as we are using large XML files. -
Unable to Connect to Oracle 10gR1 database from JDeveloper 11g using OCI
We are migrating our application from OC4J to Weblogic server. As a part, I am trying to create a database connection in JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.3.0 - Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.3.PS2_GENERIC_100408.2356.5660) to Oracle 10gR1 database. Previously I had Oracle 10g Client installed in the machine. Created a database connection using OCI driver and when I try to test connect, I got "Test Failed: no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path". I searched through Metalink and forums and one suggestion was to install Oracle 11g Client on the machine where Jdeveloper 11g is installed. I installed 11g R1 client and tried the same test connection using OCI driver. Now I am getting "Test failed: ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified" error.
The same database connection works good with Thin driver with both Oracle 10g client and 11gR1 client.
Previously I had Jdeveloper 10.1.3.2 and Oracle 10g Client and I was able to connect to database without any errors.
Could you provide me the steps for this or if I missed any steps?
Steps to Replicate:
For the error: no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path
1) Install JDeveloper 11g (With embedded Weblogic Server)
2) Install Oracle 10g Client on the same machine
3) Create a database connection in the "Application Resources --> Connection"
4) Use OCI driver. Enter the host details about the Oracle 10g R1 database
5) Test connect to the database.
ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified
1) Install JDeveloper 11g (With embedded Weblogic Server)
2) Install Oracle 11gR1 Client on the same machine
3) Create a database connection in the "Application Resources --> Connection"
4) Use OCI driver. Enter the host details about the Oracle 10g R1 database
5) Test connect to the database.
Note: Tried the same scenarios with Oracle 11gR2 client as well. It was not working at all.
Any ideas and pointers would be great.1. will my problem get solved after i install oracle 11g client on my machine.Yes, your problem should get solved. The version of the Oracle 11g Client must match the version of the JDev's JDBC drivers. Alternatively you may install an Oracle 11g Client and replace JDev's Oracle JDBC drivers with these from the installed client. Please, read carefully my 1st posting above in this thread.
2. can i patch JDeveloper 11g on my machine to work with 10g client, or can i do the same with 10g client.You might succeed if you replace JDev's built-in JDBC drivers (which are 11g versions) with 10g versions, but I do not recommend you to try that because JDeveloper 11g and ADF 11g may be using some 11g features that do not exist in 10g drivers, so you may have problems.
I also have PLSql developer installed on my machine and it works well.PL/SQL Developer does not use JDBC drivers, so it is not an relevant example in this case.
My generall recommendation is to use Oracle JDBC Thin drivers. Oracle claimed that OCI drivers had better performance, but this was really true about earlier releases. Current Oracle 11g JDBC Thin drivers offer excellent performance and they offer all the features of the OCI versions (which was not true about earlier releases). In my opinion, the most important disadvantage of Oracle JDBC OCI drivers is that most versions have native memory leaks so all the RAM would get consumed after long application execution. The fact that WebLogic Server does not offer Oracle JDBC OCI drivers by default anymore says that Oracle discourages the usage of the OCI driver in favour of Thin driver.

Run queries against system tables for oracle BPEL processes
I want to run queries against system tables for oracle BPEL processes. It is becoming very difficult for me to us EM as it is very slow,
and not all the time, it is sufficient for our needs.
We are doing load testing and we want find out info like how many requests came in and how many faulted and what time is taken by each request...
So do any of you have the query that I can use and tables that I need to go against?Use the BPEL hydration database table "cube_instance".
There should be plenty of example in the forum regarding this table. -

Upgrading from oracle 8i to oracle 11g
current Oracle version is 8i
front end is visual basic 6
OS is windows xp
client OS is windows xp
I guess this question has been asked a lot in here.
But i guess i have some extra queries here
-> I m using oracle 8i and now I want to upgrade it to 11g. Is there any complications. I mean can i simply export a dump file from oracle 8i and import it in oracle 11g using imp tool, importing everything. If not what are not imported and what are other complications and consequences.
-> My front end is vb 6 so is there gonna be any problem. If it's unsupported which version would u prefer for vb 6
-> Can i install oracle 11g in windows xp or at least can i install oracle client in xp.
-> what kind of server would you suggest for oracle 11g.
Is there anybody to help me out here as quickly as possible.
Thanx a lot

Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms?
I have generated a form, which is based on a view. The view uses the mdsys.sdo_relate operator. Somehow I am unable to get the form to perform (to get one record it takes over 20 minutes). While useing sql-navigator to process the same statement it seems no problem. The query that also uses the view, is then processed in 10 seconds.
I also noticed that when text-functions like ' lower' of ' upper' are used to query the view, the query is processed within 15 seconds. If I don't use ' lower' or ' upper' it takes a long time (> 20 minutes) to process the query. Is it possible that this causes the bad performance of the form?
On metalink I have found that forms and spatial do not cooperate because of the pl/sql version that
forms6 uses. There is no solution presented, does anyone know of a work around?
My configuration is:
Oracle 8.1.7 on WIN2K @ PIII-800Mhz 256 Mb memory.
Formsbuilder 6
If requested I can post the queries that I have made.
With regards,
Gerjan Walrecht

How to set JDBC Data Sources in Oracle MapViewer for Oracle database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1)?
The following is my configuration in the conf\mapViewerConfig.xml:
<map_data_source name="mvdemo12"
jdbc_host="127.0.0.1"
jdbc_sid="orcl12c1"
jdbc_port="1522"
jdbc_user="mvdemo"
jdbc_password="7OVl2rJ+hOYxG5T3vKJQb+hW4NPgy9EN"
jdbc_mode="thin"
number_of_mappers="3"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="true"
editable="true"/>
<!-- **** -->
But it does not work.
After use "sqlplus mvdemo/[email protected]:1522/pdborcl", it connected to the Oracle database 12c.
Does anyone know it?
Thanks,For 11.1.1.7.1 use the syntax for jdbc_sid, i.e.
//mypdb1.foo.com as described in the README,
- MapViewer native (non-container) data sources can now use database service name in place of SID. To supply a db service name, you will use the same jdbc_sid attribute, but specify the service name with double slashes in front, such as follows:
<map_data_source name="myds"
jdbc_host="foo.com"
jdbc_sid="//mypdb1.foo.com"
jdbc_port="1522"
/>
For 11.1.1.7.0 use a container_ds instead.
i.e. instead of using
<map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
jdbc_host="mydbinstance"
jdbc_sid="pdborcl12c"
jdbc_port="1522"
jdbc_user="mytestuser"
jdbc_password="m2E7T48U3LfRjKwR0YFETQcjNb4gCMLG8/X0KWjO00Q="
jdbc_mode="thin"
number_of_mappers="6"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
editable="false"
/>
use
<map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
container_ds="jdbc/db12c"
number_of_mappers="6"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
editable="false"
/>
In my case the Glassfish 3.1.2.2 JDBC connection pool definition was
Property
url jdbc:oracle:thin:@mydbinstance:1522/pdborcl12c.rest_of.service.name
Uncheck the Wrap JDBC Objects option in Advanced panel, i.e. the Edit JDBC Connection Pool Advanced properties page.
Add a JDBC resource for that newly created pool
Use that in mapviewerconfig.xml as above -
Unicode in Oracle 8i and Oracle XE
I’m developing a program to read database objects and data of Oracle Database from Oracle 8.1.7 and store everything as XML files and then read these XML file on different computer and built the same database on Oracle XE and import the data in to it.
Everything worked fine so far, except that I’m facing an issue with some of the fields of type VARCHAR2, I’m getting this error when importing the data (ORA-12899: value too large for column … etc.)
Data stored in these fields as Unicode in both Oracle 8i and XE, I don’t know why the some data do not fit in the new XE database.
Any one has a clue why the same data require more bytes in Oracle XE than they were taking in oracle 8i?
Note: I'm not using any of Oracle tools to import or export, I'm using a program that I developed.Could be related to nls_length_semantics problems similar as here NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS parameter...
It seems that Oracle 8i did not have nls_length_smantics parameter and most probably it used only byte characteristics. To my mind Oracle8i had quite limited support for unicode, so might be that behavoir changed between versions.

Differences between Oracle Developer an ORacle JDeveloper
Hi,
I am doing a work and i need to know the differences between Oracle Developer and Oracle JDeveloper, if someone can help me it would be very aprreciated.

I am doing a work and i need to know the differences between Oracle Developer and Oracle JDeveloper, if someone can help me it would be very aprreciated.1) There is no such thing as 'Oracle Developer'. However, there are
- Oracle SQLDeveloper
- Oracle Developer Suite
2) Assuming Oracle Developer Suite:
- Oracle Dev Suite is used to create Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Oracle Discoverer worksheets, and Entity Relationship Diagrams
- Oracle JDeveloper is used to create any kind of Java object (including Java 2 & 3 tier forms) and ALL objects that support those Java objects (XML, UML, database, SOAP, etc) BUT NOT the stuff in Dev Suite.
Both are very powerful. Expect to take at least 15 minutes* to learn either.
