Xorg 7.0 with USB mouse wheel

If the protocol "Auto" (in xorg.conf) doesn't work, try "ExplorerPS/2".
Found that in my old X log

How do I get the system to terminate apps that lock up?
(Hmm... What vulnerabilties are associated with /dev/input/event*, that the default permissions on those would be root only?)
Yeah, it helps to have another machine handy when working on bleeding edge Linux stuff :-D
Actually, the event* devices are for peripheral inputs; I can't imagine there being any way some outside attacker could get into your machine from there .
I think it was either oversight or a goof when the udev rules were created. If you look at the actaul udev.rules file, you will see the rule line for the event* stuff, and all the rule lines above and below set the permissions EXCEPT the rule that sets up the event* devices.
So, it could simply have been oversight; either way, it works great with the permissions set.
You could, as explained in previous posts, create your own device if you so wish

  • Moving sliders in CS6 with the mouse wheel?

In CS3 after clicking onto the slider "triangle" I can then adjust it with the mouse wheel.  I don't appear to be able to do this in CS6.  Can this be remedied?

JJ got my points in another thread today, too.

  • Mouse wheel not working in Xorg with USB mouse? Try this!

I'm just posting this so others may hit upon it when they search.
For ages, I've been unable to get my mousewheel working, with my USB mouse, although everything in xorg.conf has been just fine. I just found out I needed to load the module uhci-hcd to make it work. Yay!
This can be done manually with 'modprobe uhci-hcd', or include uhci-hcd in the MODULES list in /etc/rc.conf.

You have xorg.conf in /etc/X11/ right? If not, you have to make one, either through xorgconfig or hwd -xa.
And find a input section for mouse. Should look something like this:
    # Core Pointer's InputDevice section
    Section "InputDevice"
    # Identifier and driver
    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "ZAxis Mapping" "4 5"
    # Mouse-speed setting for PS/2 mouse.
    # Option "Resolution" "256"
    # When using XQUEUE, comment out the above two lines, and uncomment
    # the following line.
    # Option "Protocol" "Xqueue"
    # Baudrate and SampleRate are only for some Logitech mice. In
    # almost every case these lines should be omitted.
    # Option "BaudRate" "9600"
    # Option "SampleRate" "150"
    # Emulate3Buttons is an option for 2-button Microsoft mice
    # Emulate3Timeout is the timeout in milliseconds (default is 50ms)
    # Option "Emulate3Buttons"
    # Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50"
    # ChordMiddle is an option for some 3-button Logitech mice
    # Option "ChordMiddle"
    EndSection
    You see the line
    Option "ZAxis Mapping" "4 5"
Just chuck that in your mouse section if it's not there. "Normally" that should just take care of it. If not, post your xorg.config.

  • CS5.5 Faster? Not with my mouse wheel

I worked with 1.5 daily for years and used the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of a waveform. It became second nature. I use it literally ALL THE TIME. Now that I'm testing the CS5.5 Trial version, I have come to a stall. The mouse wheel works....sort of...but very slowly and delayed. For me, with what we do, it is a major issue. It slows me down in editing and cleaning up clicks, pops, mouse noise, etc on a waveform. To have to click on + or - means I have to take my hand off the mouse and move it to keybroard and back to the mouse. That may not seem like much but when you are accustomed to working rapidly, it's a big deal.
The question is...why is it so slow to react? I thought CS5.5 was faster.  Is there a way to make the mouse wheel work like it did in 1.5?
Does the fact that CS5.5 is Mac-available have something to do with this.?
I am trying hard to adapt to CS5.5 but have a list of issues that I have with it. (I'll get to those later) The lazy mouse-wheel is a big one for me.
    Alex

Sorry Alex, I just don't see that behaviour here!
I've just done a "quick test"; a 24 minutes long wav file, I can zoom from the full waveform to a 6 second section with 4 "moves" of the mouse wheel and without any delay..  I don't think I would want it any faster than that!  Is it substantially different for you?

  • Hot corners stop working with USB Mouse?

    Hi,
pretty simple one this (to explain anyway)
Hot corners don't work with a USB mouse on my 10.10 MBA.
If the USB mouse is plugged in, hot corners do nothing (Whether I use the mouse, or the track pad to move to the corner of the screen)
If i unplug the USB mouse, they work fine again.
I have rebooted and unplugged and replugged the USB mouse to no avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Have you tried another USB port?

  • How do I prevent tab focus from changing when I scroll tabs with the mouse wheel? [SOLVED]

Whenever I scroll my tabs with the mouse scroll wheel the tab focus changes from the page I'm currently on to the tab being scrolled to. I usually have a large list of tabs open and I depend on being able to scroll tabs without changing page focus to keep myself organized.
Also, I'd like to disable tab scroll wrapping; Once I've scrolled my tabs to the end I'd like it to stop scrolling, not wrap around to the start of my tabs.
Is there a way to disable these features and revert to the tab scrolling behaviour of a previous version of Firefox?

This is not a standard feature and can be caused by an extension.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Problem with USB mouse on Satelite a215-s7416

Hi all. I have been having this problem since I got this computer in December. I hope someone will be able to help me.
I have been using a usb corded optical mouse. It works for about 4-5 weeks then it loses power. For the first few days I can unplug it and plug it back in and it will work again. If I change ports it works as well. Eventually it stops entirely, in all ports. I plug it into my desktop and it works just fine. The first few times it happened I exchanged the mouse thinking it was faulty. As soon as I plugged in the new mouse it worked fine. After a few months of this I switched to a different brand of mouse. I am still experiencing the same problems. I have found some support info about deleting USB hubs and reinstalling, which worked for a few days. I have also updated BIOS, I have not done any other updates though.
Anyone know what may be the cause of this? I plan on going out to exchange it yet again tomorrow and I am confident when I plug it in it will work just fine.

Ive seen a similar problem on a Desktop PC, it was caused by bad USB drivers.
Did you install Logitech or Microsoft mouse drivers, or any other USB related drivers?
Try removing those, they may be conflicting with the mouse.
If that doesn't work, you could try reinstalling Windows by running Recovery (backup your data first off course :p)

  • Do precise sliders adjustments with the mouse wheel

I would like to be allowed to use the mouse wheel to move sliders in small increments/decrements. E.g. 1 by 1 for Recovery and Blacks and 100 by 100 for Temp in Develop module. To be also fast, I should just need to hover with the mouse over the slider, and then use the wheel (with no need to click). Leaving the mouse to use two hands and hit Alt+arrows just doesn't cut it.

    Nicolas,
if you have to do a click at first to give them the focus, then you have to do a de-click afterwards as well or at least hit the enter key. Otherwise following shortcuts will be eventually misinterpreted because the focus still remains on the slider.

  • Strange issue with USB mouse and USB headset.

    Good day everyone.
I was experiencing a rather strange issue with my mouse and headset(both USB).
I am using KDE and ALSA, if that matters.
They are working just fine, but sometimes, when I try to lower\raise volume, my mouse derps out. I can move it around, but I can't click on anything(sometimes though, I can click on stuff in window that was active before and sometimes only on KDE panel) until I re-plug my headset. Then, nothing can use my headset until I reboot.
    Anybody ever had that problem?

I've had similar problems for some time now. Unfortunately, I don't know what the issue is either, but perhaps we can come up with some setup similarities and narrow it down. I have similar trouble with just alsa or with pulseaudio, so that's not it. It is unrelated to the DE, as it happened for me in both gnome 2 and xfce 4. It is not related to the machine either, as the same quirks occur in other machines with the same headset. I have had inconclusive results with downgrading to kernel26-lts, the ancient kernel. I thought at some point it messed up and I was sure the older kernel didnt help, but after trying recently-ish, I had no trouble for days -- until I found that I didn't have trouble on the main kernel either. ... then a few days later, it showed up again. Very irritating!
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=122475
Does my old thread sound like your issue somewhat?
Essentially, at times, if the headset (wireless) is changed into a different power state (unplugged/plugged) or the mic state is toggled (mute/unmute), things that could be clicked on normally cant unless theyre in the window already focused -- mostly.
What headset are you using? 32 or 64 bit arch? Have you tried downgrading to kernel26-lts?

  • Replacing bluetooth mouse with USB mouse

I have no need for a wireless mouse, and so just plugged in an old usb mouse, which works OK, except that when I reboot the computer, the USB mouse is not recognized at the login screen. Also, after I log in using the keyboard, the USB mouse is still not recognized until I unplug it and plug it back in. Anyone know how to tell the iMac to recognize it on startup?
    thanks

    Hi T-Bob
People seem to have had variable experiences with at least some versions of the Kensington drivers - see http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php?id=5805
I see that their "Mouseworks" driver package is now up to version 2.9 - http://us.kensington.com/html/1385.html#mac28 Is this the version you installed? Have you checked the configuration options in the System Preferences?
I notice elswhere on their site that you should uninstall any earlier versions first (using the "uninstall option in the installer) before putting on a new one. Not sure if you had an earlier one installed though.
It is just possible that any OTHER mouse or graphic tablet / game controller software could also be causing conflicts with the Kensington drivers. This could include either the bluetooth or mighty mouse software I guess. I'm reluctant to suggest removing them though, as they are part of the general system software and we don't want to risk leaving you completely rodent free!
Sounds like you did the PRAM reset properly.
Another option for you might be the famous "USB Overdrive" - http://www.usboverdrive.com/USBOverdrive/Information.html THis is third party software that has been used to tame many an unruly input device over the years. I haven't used recent versions but it was certainly a worthy product in days gone by. You can download a fully operational trial version.
    Cheers

  • I can't scroll up or down with the mouse wheel

My mouse wheel won't scroll in Firefox, but it works for every other program (including IE, don't make me go back to that!). I have downloaded the latest driver for my mouse and also tried changing the config in "mousewheel.withnokey". I never had this problem then suddenly it just happened, but only in Firefox. Any ideas?
    Corey
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == randomly

I have Lenovo Thinkpad laptop and Lenovo optical USB mouse connected to docking station. Mouse wheel works in all applications except Firefox.
The solution I found: go to "Control Panel/Mouse/Wheel" (I have here some Lenovo application).
The first option "Wheel" on the tab has 2 choices: "Enable Universal Scrolling" (default) and "Use Microsoft Office 97 Scrolling Emulation Only". If I switch to 2nd option, then scrolling works in Firefox. Since Firefox is the only application that has a problem, I keep the 1st option, but add Firefox to "Exceptions" list. Now scrolling works fine.

  • Scrolling with the mouse wheel does not always work with 4.0? Never a problem with previsous versions.

in firefox 4.0, at times the scrolling wheel will not work. It has never been a problem with previous versions, and always works in internet explorer.

    Hello Henry,
    Thanks for the hint!
My mouse wheel is  working, but not in flash player...strange... It is a Microsoft Comfort  Mouse and I see there is already logged bug about that: https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-5145
Anyway besides this bug, there is an additional issue I think, that the vertical layout does not calculate properly the vertical scroll position, when certain elements are excluded from the layout. I have described this additionally in the Jira.

  • When I want to zoom in or zoom out with the mouse wheel and CONTROL button the letters get larger but remain within the same size paragraph and any pictures remain the same. I want the entire page to zoom.

I want the entire page to zoom in and out when I use CONTROL + mouse wheel. Now the letters get larger but remain in the same size paragraph and also the pictures stay the same.

It is indeed scandalous that Apple sells useless scanned music scores. There is a warning when you chose to download music tabs or notes but it doesn't say that the score lines are very small and cannot be zoomed. I spent $30 on two books but cannot really use them on my MBA as you cannot zoom except for the double click which only works page per page and is only a small improvement.
The only way I can use the score more or less is on my ipad in landscape mode by increasing the font size to the max. The music score then becomes wider and you can read 2-3 lines per page without glasses.
If you could transfer the file to the pdf  "side" of the library in ibooks the zoom would work..
What does work is using the accessibility zoom mode option+command+= to zoom and then option+command+\ to smooth the picture but then your whole display desktop etc. are zoomed in.

PS. My laser mouse is very sensitive on win7 too despite messing with settings, is this the norm of laser mice?

To change systemwide defaults you need to create a file in  /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ , for example 50-input-mouse.conf
    and then put in:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "mouse slowdown"
    MatchIsPointer "on"
    MatchProduct "yourmousename"
    Option "ConstantDeceleration" "0.5"
    Option "AccelerationProfile" "-1"
    EndSection
replace yourmousename with what your mouse is called (or part of the name). You can find it with
    xinput --list
And replace 0.5 and -1 to your liking. In my case I have added a constant little slow down to my mouse, and completely disabled accel.
Optionally to change it only for your current x session:
    find property name :
    xinput --list-props "yourdevicename"
    set the property:
xinput --set-prop "yourdevicename" "Device Accel Profile" "-1"
You need to do this everytime you start x, so put it in some autostart script.
