XSQL LookUpTable

I am trying to use an Oracle XSQL query as a lookup table in my XSLT. I have figured out how to do this with Static data but am having slight difficulty using the XSQL.
The easiest solution (I think) would be to return the resultset as a Namespace such as:
<foo:ROWSET xmlns:foo="urn:bar">
</foo:ROWSET>
Instead of just:
<ROWSET>
</ROWSET>
It seems this would better enable me to <match> the nodes.
I can use an alias for the columns but have no idea for the ROWSET and ROW elements.
Any suggestions on this?
If this is not possible then my problem seems to stem from here:
1. I can not match the ROWSET node when trying to execute the lookup.
<!-- H -->
<xsl:template match="//ROWSET">
I originally tried
<!-- H -->
<xsl:template match="$x/ROWSET">
But this threw an error.
Has anyone had any success doing this type of thing?
Below is some sample code that I am using to get this to work. I will then transfer it to my code later.
Thanks in advance.
SAMPLE CODE
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!-- edited with XML Spy v3.0.7 NT (http://www.xmlspy.com) by Kevin R. Gutch (Data Products) -->
<!-- E -->
<xsl:transform xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:s="http://states.data" exclude-result-prefixes="s"
version="1.0">
<xsl:output method="text"/>
<!-- defines a key that represents the lookup table in the style sheet. XSLT keys will create a named index of nodes in the source document which are selected by the match attribute. -->
<xsl:key name="state-lookup" match="ROW" use="EXIST"/>
<!-- -->
<xsl:variable name="states-top" select="$x/ROWSET"/>
<xsl:variable name="x" select="document('http://localhost:2020/xsql/demo/myTests/exists.xsql?test=FL')"/>
<xsl:template match="label">
<xsl:value-of select="name"/>
<xsl:text> of </xsl:text>
<xsl:apply-templates select="$states-top">
<xsl:with-param name="curr-label" select="."/>
</xsl:apply-templates>
</xsl:template>
<!-- H -->
<xsl:template match="//ROWSET">
<xsl:param name="curr-label"/>
<xsl:value-of select="key('state-lookup', $curr-label/address/state)/LAYER"/>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:transform>
null

Just use the document() function:
<xsl:variable name="xsqlData"
select="document('http://yourserver/yourpage.xsql?someparam=somevalue')"/>
Then you can refer to $xsqlData/ROWSET/ROW/...

  • Error while running a sample XSQL from XML bible book from Steve Muench

    I am running the sample XSQL code from Chapter 03, which deals with exporting XML and transform into SQL statements. I'm using JDeveloper and I believe I've setup libraries and HTML root directory etc. I'm getting the following error:

    Can I get some help in fixing this error?

    Hi,
    This is the example I took from Steve Muench's book.
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    <xsl:output method="text"/>

    </xsl:stylesheet>
    As you can see, I do have the version=1.0 attribute. Why is it complaining still?

    I used the PL/SQL web toolkit provided by OAS4.0.8.1. I believe oracle web agent is replaced by this toolkit.

    Hi,
    Glad that somebody else too got this problem. Well, as I had mentioned in my previous posting too, I think there are some procedures in the package, dbms_lob, like the writeappend, createtemporary etc.. which is not found in my dbms_lob.sql file, I am using 8.0.5, but I found these procedures in the 8i, I think it is becos of that.
    By the way if anybody got this solution and got any workaround, please help me too.
    I am still waiting for the solution to that.

  • Unable to use the values returned by a PL/SQL stored procedure in a XSQL page

    Hi,
    I've been messing around with XML and XSQL in particular. I was trying to write a xsql page to display a report with account totals...I have the following .xsql which calls a PL/SQL stored procedure :
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xsql:query connection="pfcdm" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    <xsql:set-session-param name="zasset_total" value="100">
    <xsql:dml connection="pfcdm">
    rraman.sp_vw_id(zasset_total,zinvm_total,zmkt_val);
    </xsql:dml>
    </xsql:set-session-param>
    select 'Asset total is {@zasset_total}' as "ASSET_TOTAL" from dual
    </xsql:query>
    My procedure sp_vw_id returns the values that it should. But, I am not sure how to declare variables within a page, and to output the return values. There is very scanty documentation on the usage of <xsql:dml> or <xsql:ref-cursor-function>.
    Any response would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Raja

    Here is the example from the Oracle9i (complete rewrite) of the XSQL Chapter in our Oracle documentation.
    Question
    I using <xsql:dml> to call a stored procedure which has one OUT parameter, but I was not able to see any results. The executed code results in the following statement:
    <xsql-status action="xsql:dml" rows="0"/>
    Answer
    You cannot set parameter values by binding them in the position of OUT variables in this release using <xsql:dml>. Only IN parameters are supported for binding. You can create a wrapper procedure that constructs XML elements using the HTP package and then your XSQL page can invoke the wrapper procedure using <xsql:include-owa> instead.
    For an example, suppose you had the following procedure:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE addmult(arg1 NUMBER,
    arg2 NUMBER,
    sumval OUT NUMBER,
    prodval OUT NUMBER) IS
    BEGIN
    sumval := arg1 + arg2;
    prodval := arg1 * arg2;
    END;You could write the following procedure to "wrap" it, taking all of the IN arguments that the procedure above expects, and then "encoding" the OUT values as a little XML datagram that you print to the OWA page buffer:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE addmultwrapper(arg1 NUMBER, arg2 NUMBER) IS
    sumval NUMBER;
    prodval NUMBER;
    xml VARCHAR2(2000);
    BEGIN
    -- Call the procedure with OUT values
    addmult(arg1,arg2,sumval,prodval);
    -- Then produce XML that encodes the OUT values
    xml := '<addmult>'&#0124; &#0124;
    '<sum>'&#0124; &#0124;sumval&#0124; &#0124;'</sum>'&#0124; &#0124;
    '<product>'&#0124; &#0124;prodval&#0124; &#0124;'</product>'&#0124; &#0124;
    '</addmult>';
    -- Print the XML result to the OWA page buffer for return
    HTP.P(xml);
    END;This way, you can build an XSQL page like this that calls the wrapper procedure:
    <page connection="demo" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    <xsql:include-owa bind-params="arg1 arg2">
    BEGIN addmultwrapper(?,?); END;
    </xsql:include-owa>
    </page>This allows a request like:
    http://yourserver.com/addmult.xsql?arg1=30&arg2=45
    to return an XML datagram that reflects the OUT values like this:
    <page> <addmult><sum>75</sum><product>1350</product></addmult>
    </page>

  • XSQL error when trying to insert record

    hi,
    I encounter a problem using INSERT statement in xsql:query action. If I try to use INSERT statement in my xsql page like this:
    <xsql:ze_action bean="TaskentryIn">
    <xsql:query>
    INSERT
    Grundtab( Datum,Startzeit,Endzeit)
    VALUES
    ('{@date}',{'@begin}','{@ende}')
    </xsql:query>
    </xsql:ze_action>
    I always get this xsql-error:
    Statement.executeQuery - No result sets were produced by 'INSERT...'
    So far so good, I think this shouldn't be an error rather a warning.
    But this is not my primary problem.
    Anyway the record is inserted in the DB. But since I call the above <xsql:query>, from within my own action handler, I call a sendRedirect() to my next page after the <xsql:query> tag was processed.
    After sendRedirect(), when I am on my next page, I check the DB for the inserted records, and it shows up that the insert was made two times, so I have two identically records in my DB.
    If I am not sendRedirect() to the next xsql page, then the insert is only made once. So I assume that there is a problem if an xsql-error occurs and afterwards a sendRedirect().
    I am using the same way to make my SELECT statements and I dont have any trouble with them. Only when I use INSERT.
    Any adive or help is appreciated.
    Peter

    <xsql:query> is only for queries.
    Use <xsql:dml> for a DML statement.

  • Can not make XSQL servlet running under Jrun 3.1! need help

    Hi,
    I tried to run Oracle XSQL servlet under JRun 3.1,I did servlet mapping, such as
    <servlet-name>oracle-xsql-servlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>oracle.xml.xsql.XSQLServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>oracle-xsql-servlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>*.xsql</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    I set classpath for XSQL related library such as oraclexsql.jar, xmlparserv2.jar,etc, I believe everything is setup correctly, however when I invoke .xsql page, I did not get data instead of getting sql text!, here is my xsql file content:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!-- reports.xsql: List of reports by user id -->
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="Filter.xsl"?>
    <page connection="reports_8i" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
         <dataform target="reportFilter.jsp" submit="Go">
    <xsql:set-session-param name="userid" value="{@userid}" ignore-empty-value="no"/>
         <xsql:include-param name="userid"/>
         <xsql:set-session-param name="bu_id" value="{@bu_id}" ignore-empty-value="no"/>
         <xsql:include-param name="bu_id"/>
         <xsql:set-session-param name="client_id" value="{@client_id}" ignore-empty-value="no"/>
         <xsql:include-param name="client_id"/>
         <item type="list" name="targetPage" label="Available Reports">
         <xsql:ref-cursor-function bind-params="userid">

              </xsql:ref-cursor-function>
              </item>
         </dataform>
    </page>
    What I got when I invoked this page is reports_generation.getReportList(?)!!
    It seems that JRun 3.1 did not understand xsql syntax, it means it can not find XSQL servlet related libraries, come on, I did set classpath.
    Does anyone has this experience to help me out? Highly appreicate you in advance.
    Thanks.

    i think i solved this problem by specifying the full path to javac...
    what must i do to avoid this?

  • XSQL Servlet Version 1.0.0.0 with ServletExec 3.0 on Windows2000 IIS 5

    I am attempting to establish an XML connection to Oracle 8i in a Windows2000 IIS 5 environment. The .xsql/index.htm loads perfectly, but when i try to run helloworld, I recieve the following error.

I am trying to connect to to an external Oracle 8i database, and have adjusted the parameters in the XSQLConfig.xml accordingly.

    The helloworld example doesn't work in XSQL 102. Tested using xsql command with http url. See below. If I put xsql: in front of connection in helloworld.xsql, the error moves from column 13 to 36, so now the trouble lies with xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql". What has changed? How do we solve this?

  • XSQL Servlet and Dynamic SQL

    Does the XSQL servlet support dynamic SQL? Take a stock screening page as an example. In this example you want to dynamically build the where clause based on user input. Thus if a Minimum PE Ratio of 3 was entered, the where clause of "where PE_Ratio >= 3" would be appended to the query. In this case there may be up to 20 different parameters or more to be mapped dynamically, so it wouldn't be feasible to nest all of the different combinations.

    XSQL Supports lexical substitution parameters
    so any and every part of any query can be parameterized.
    The extreme case is:
    <query> {@sql} </query>
    where the entire query is passed in
    in a parameter (named "sql").
    But any combination of parameters
    and substitutions is legal and can
    be used to do what you want.
    Since the variables are not BIND
    variabled, but instead lexical
    substitution variables, you can
    do things like:
    <query>
    select {@collist}
    from {@table}
    where {@where}
    order by {@orderby}
    </query>
    You can provide default parameter values
    using XML attributes on the <query>
    element which then can be overridden
    if a value is passed in in the request...
    <query collist="ename, sal"
    orderby="sal desc"
    where="1=1"
    from="dept">
    select {@collist}
    from {@table}
    where {@where}
    order by {@orderby}
    </query>
    And then a request to the page
    can pass in a orderby=decode(comm,null,1,0)
    or something to override the defaults.

  • Order of parameters to xsql:insert-request

    I am trying to create a general purpose xsl style sheet to generate a data input form using data from the COLS table. I can generate the form but the order of the parameters returned by the form does not match the column order of the table which xsql:insert-request seems to require. Is there any way of ordering the parameter values to match the column order of the table?
    Also, xsql:insert-request inserted records with null values without returning an error message when the column values were not in the correct order.
    Thanks,
    Kumar

    Can't you use the XSL Transformation that's being used by the xsql:insert-request tag to order the columns correctly?
    The order of the parameters coming in is dependent on the browser and on the servlet. It is likely the same order that they appear in your HTML form, but I don't believe there's a guarantee on the order.
    The next release of the XML SQL Utility (which does the SQL-to-XML and XML-Insert work under the covers for the XSQL Servlet) supports order-insensitive inserting.

  • How to track the URL that comes from a referred page using XSQL Custom Handler

    Hi,
    I have a cold fusion page(say cf.cfm) that sent a request to xsql page(say test.xsql) and then xsql page displays results. I want to capure the URL of cf.cfm page and then after checking its host name and path name for correctness then want to display the test.xsql results.
    Please let me know how can I capture URL of the refered page(cf.cfm) in the Custom Handler and then I want to extract host-name and path-name out of that url and on the basis of their values I want to display the result of XSQL page(test.xsql).

  • How to retrieve the outer parameter of a stored procedure in XSQL page

    I have to call a stored procedure in the xsql page that returns a resultset (ie. oracle table/record type) through an outer paramter. Is there any built-in xsql action tag available to get the parameter and present
    it in xml on the page? please help, thanks.

    You cant get two resultsets out of SP like this. The workaround is to merge and bring the resultsets.
    For this number of columns as well as corresponding datatypes have to be compatible. Also you will need one additional column which indicates resultset value. Then use this as filter to get your desired resultset out
    create procedure GetData as
    begin
    select 'resultset1' as Cat,*,.. N columns from Emp
    union all
    select 'resultset2' as Cat,*,.. N columns from Dept
    end
    create table #tmp1 (Ddeptid int, deptname varchar(500),Location varchar(100))
    Insert into #tmp1 (Ddeptid , deptname ,Location )
    Select column1,column2,column3
    from OPENROWSET('SQLOLEDB','Data Source=Server_name;Trusted_Connection=yes;
    Integrated Security=SSPI','Execute yourdb..GetData')
    WHERE Cat = 'resultset1'
    create table #tmp (empid int , ename varchar(500),DeptId int , salary int)
    Insert into #tmp (empId,ename,deptId,salary)
    Select column1,column2,column3, column4
    from OPENROWSET('SQLOLEDB','Data Source=Server_name;Trusted_Connection=yes;
    Integrated Security=SSPI','Execute yourdb..GetData')
    WHERE Cat = 'resultset2'
    also see

    Another method is to populate table with relevant resultset within procedure itself and then select from the table directly outside.

    <xsql-error action="xsql:include-owa" />
    </test>
    My .xsql file is:
    <test connection="system" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    <xsql:include-owa>
    scott.get_date;
    </xsql:include-owa>
    </test>
    Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

    I tried this way:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <datapage connection="system" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    <xsql:dml>
    begin
    get_rec;
    end;
    </xsql:dml>
    </datapage>
    Here it doesn't give any error, Why is it that it works here but not with <xsql:include-owa>, ofcourse I need to get a proper output from the procedure yet. Looks like the procedure doesn't support "out" variable, should I specifically use a function ?
    Anyhelp will be appreciated.

  • Error while running xsql-wtg.bat

    Hi,
    I have installed xsql servlet on NT 4.0 service pack 5 and also I have oracle 8.1.6. When I am running xsql-wtg.bat I am getting the following error messages:
    WTG-10109: Web-to-go could not locate requested URL
    Web-to-go could not locate requested URL /xsql/index.html
    Please contact the application vendor
    Please let me know what mistake I am doing.

    Check the:
    ./xsql/wtg/lib/webtogo.ora
    file, and make sure the setting for:
    ROOT_DIR=C:\
    reflects the drive location where you
    installed XSQL. For example , if you installed XSQL in E:\xsql, then you'll
    want to set ROOT_DIR=E:\
    so that the virtual path /xsql/index.html
    maps to the physical file E:\xsql\index.html
    The release notes for the 1.0.0.0 release
    mention this parameter that was inadvertently
    left out of the 0.9.9.1 instructions.

    Hi,
    the connection is correct as ,if i remove the xsl am getting the valid xml output.It is something to do with href="OracleCatalog.xsl", i think it is not able to find it.If i gave the entire path like href="c:\.............\OracleCatalog.xsl" then it is giving blank page.what may be the reason.
