[XSQL] shall one implement XSQLPageRequest to handle ORA-01017 ?
Dear Sirs,
I have implemented an XSQLConnectionManager so that users must use their oracle username/password for the connection string. I've got it to work fine in Tomcat4.1.
However, if a customer types a wrong username/password, then the XSQLErrorWriter is activated and it returns an unpleasant error message to the customer.
XSQL-007: Cannot acquire a database connection to process page.
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Intead, I need to return a nice page back to the customer asking to check the username/password combination since those that were provided did not work out.
Res.getString(7) is returned only in the specific case that XSQLPageRequest.setConnectionName("somename") fails.
Does it mean tha tI have to implement my own XSQLPageRequest ?
Hi there,
I have been running onto a problem to get XSQL going on tomcat 4. Unfortunately, I haven't been successful so far.
I saw that you got it working. Can you please post what you in server.xml (for the context) and web.xml .
Did you do anything else other setting the CLASSPATH to what has been suggested.
Things work fine when I try the command line.
I will appreciate your help.
Sincerely
Sadi

I am trying to handle Producer not available situation in which I am using Interceptor IWSDLInterceptor in WLP 10.3.4. I am able to retrieve exception using onWSDLException but from here if I have to forward my pageURL object I need httpservlet request and response. I tried my own filter class to have its own customize request and also tried it out all other Interceptor to see if any one can handle IOException. I did manage to throw my own Customize exception but that also did not work out as Page does not have any backing file or any supportive Controller class.
Does any one implemented solution for httpservlet request/response object in IWSDLInterceptor implemented class? or do we have any specific documentation in regards to this? As I am not able to find much martial on IWSDLInterceptor except Java API from Oracle and article defining Two way SSL handshake Producer.
Any kind of help is appreciated.
Thanks
PTThanks Emmanuel for your response but render behavior is not available for IWSDLRequestContext/IWDSLResponseContext object which IWSDLInterceptor uses for implementation.
Let me put my question in little simpler manner. May be my approach to the problem is not proper.
Problem : Handle Producer Not available (no application exists on server) on consumer side.
So far tried approach : Producer is not running then I am able to handle that TransportException at IInitCookieInterceptor/IHandleEventInterceptor onFault behaviour but in the case of Producer not even exists Consumer try to get WSDL fetch operation and failed with FileNotFoundException.
To handle this exception, I used IWSDLInterceptor which is available under IWSDLInterceptor.OnWSDLException (Oracle Fusion Middleware Java API for Oracle WebLogic Portal)
I am able to catch the exception but problem arise when application needs to forward at specific page/render portlet for this situation. For that it required request/response object but IWSDLInterceptor does not give any kind of instances to redirect request as there is no direct access to HTTPServlet request/response object.
I tried my custom request object to use there. I tried out custom filter object of IWSDLrequestContext. nothing works.
One approach works is to put producer WSDL file at consumer level. But in that, you need to handle different producer files for different environment. Which I don't think its a good approach.
eAny one Let me know if my approach to the problem/scenario is wrong. Or if I am missing out any other supporting interface which also required to handle this scenario. or I am using wrong interface for this scenario.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Trace "Unable to initialize OCI 8 environment handle ORA-01821"?
Hi
When I execute an oci program, I receive the following error:
"Unable to initialize OCI 8 environment handle ORA-01821: date format not recognized"
The program is OneWorld Xe, a black box for my purposes, meaning that I cannot see the source code.
Can I somehow see what is happening with this? I would like to see what date format is entered, etc.
env:
aix 5.2, db 9.2
Thanks in advance
ThomasWithout the source code being available its not possible to say what may be happening. The error has nothing to do with environment handle creation or initialization because environment initialization does not take any date parameter or anything similar. Is there a set up where you were able to run the application successfully and it started failing later on or did it never work for you ?

when I log into either a Unix server or a windows server, I use the same account GILLR, and as such I created an account in the DB as OPS$GILLR and issued the follwing command:
CREATE USER OPS$GILLR IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY DEFAULT
GRANT CREATE SESSION TO "GILLR"
then when I run:
GILLR@csc08> sqlplus /

ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Enter user-name:
Now I followed steps that were provided to me from the ASKTOM site and I even found some solutions to this error, but nothing worked. Does anyone know why I can not use OS_AUTH on any of the servers here?WOW!!!!! Adding in the DOMAIN into the OPS$DOMAIN\USER worked....Thanks for your help. Now I have one other question. You stated "ypur client computer and Oracle server computer should be in the same domain" What is I have users in Domain X and some users in Domain Y. When they hit some website, they have the option to select the Domain and enter their credentials. If the user has the ability to select the domain then does it really matter if the client machine is on the same domain as the DB server. I mean, the user maybe from Domain X but the DB server might be on Domain Z. The client machine and web server might be both Windows server, but when the webb app makes a call to the DB using proxxy connection, the proxxy account will take the user OPS$DOMAIN'X'\USER and make a call to the DB. How can I handle this problem?

ORA-01017 encountered while executing shell scripts
Hi,
While executing backup scripts for one of my databases, the script contains a login section which fails as shown below
Script login section:

ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Couple of points to be noted:
1) There are two other databases in the same server and they don't have any issue
2) I am able to login into this database as "/"
3) I am able to connect to the same databases as sysdba from another server
4) The script runs successfully when I modify it as: sqlplus / as sysdba << END > /tmp/$PROGRAM.tmpif you connect sqlplus as
$ sqlplus /You're not identifying that's why you got ORA-01017
instead if you connect as "sqlplus / as sysdba" , check:
sqlplus / as sysdba--how it works

New user created in oracle 11g (release 2) is not connecting (ORA-01017)
Hi All,
Kindly help me out regarding this.
I have created a new user using "ORACLE Enterprise Manager 11g" and used the same credentials in SQL developer for a new connection and it throw "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" message.
Kindly note that have followed the following steps in creating user:
On the Users page, click Create.
In the Name field, enter NICK.
In the Profile list, accept the value DEFAULT.
This setting assigns the default password policy to user Nick.
In the Enter Password and Confirm Password fields, enter a password that is secure.
Create a password that is secure. See Oracle Database Security Guide for more information.
Do not select Expire password now. If the account status is set to expired, then the user or the database administrator must change the password before the user can log in to the database.
(Optional) Next to the Default Tablespace field, click the flashlight icon, select the USERS tablespace, and then click Select.
All schema objects that Nick creates will then be created in the USERS tablespace unless he specifies otherwise. If you leave the Default Tablespace field blank, Nick is assigned the default tablespace for the database, which is USERS in a newly installed database. For more information about the USERS tablespace, see "About Tablespaces".
(Optional) Next to the Temporary Tablespace field, click the flashlight icon, select the TEMP tablespace, and then click Select.
For the Status option, accept the default selection of Unlocked.
You can later lock the user account to prevent users from logging in with it. To temporarily deny access to a user account, locking the user account is preferable to deleting it, because deleting it also deletes all schema objects owned by the user.
Grant roles, system privileges, and object privileges to the user, as described in "Example: Granting Privileges and Roles to a User Account".
Note: Do not click OK in Step 13 of "Example: Granting Privileges and Roles to a User Account". Instead, skip that step and continue with Step 12 in this procedure.
Assign a 10 MB quota on the USERS tablespace, as described in "Example: Assigning a Tablespace Quota to a User Account".
If you did not click OK while assigning the tablespace quota (previous step), click OK now to create the user.Kindly note that I have log in as SYSTEM user and created this new user.
Could any one help me regarding this ?After connecting with sqlplus, as user SYSTEM and when tried the below, I could see that the new user created by me does not exist..
select '--' || username || '--'
from dba_users
order by username;
But when tried with GUI "ORACLE Enterprise Manager 11g" I can very well see the new user created by me..
How is this possible mate??
Is the user not properly created through GUI (than from where it is showing the new user)
Some more information i want to share;
i have used schema "HR"
And have used table space "USERS"
And tep tablespace "TEMP"

Deployment error: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Hi,
I created a new target schema against an existing runtime owner user id and runtime access user id.
But deploying the mapping now gives error as follows:
<<ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied>>
Can you please guide where the problem is?
Thanks & Regards,
LeninHi,
Just to add some more informations about this topic. I created one extra target schema for the same runtime user id/runtime access user. And then tried to deploy the mapping and got the above error. And again, I removed the older target schema by using "OWB Runtime Assistant". And then tried to deploy mapping again and got the same error again.
Can you please help me out in this case?
Thanks & Regards,

variable uname has valid username that is 'scott' and variable upwd as valid password ie 'tiger' both entered by the user.
with the same username and password i am able to connect to the database from the command prompt.
but when i tried using odbc through ASP(javascript) i am getting above error.
and one more thing if i mention username and password directly in UID and PWD it works but when i pass it through variables it wont work.
since variables have username and password it has to take from it directly...........manually i cant give, dynamically it has to take.
plz help me out....how i can pass the parameter to that UID and PWD.
conn.Open = "Driver={Oracle in OraDb10g_home1};DBQ=tcp;UID='uname';PWD='upwd';";
help plz
conn.Open = "Driver={Oracle in OraDb10g_home1};DBQ=tcp;UID='uname';PWD='upwd';"; --- does not work
conn.Open = "Driver={Oracle in OraDb10g_home1};DBQ=tcp;UID=scott;PWD=tiger;"; --- works
but i want the 1st statement to work........since user gives the password and username dynamically.
Thanks

ORA-01017 (invalid username/password) using globally authenticated account
Kris and team,
Having a hard time believing no one else has encountered this already. But searching on 1017 and "globally" and "identified" in the forum yields nothing useful.
New corporate policy has all our DBAs, developers and QA logging into globally authenticated (against OID) accounts. Oracle docs call these accounts "global users". They are able to do so just fine using SQL*Plus, TOAD and PL/SQL Developer. But when we attempt the same in SQL Developer, different rules seem to be applied, and the user is told their username/password is invalid, which is not correct.
We have several hundred developers ready to use their new accounts in SQL Developer, but cannot. Would appreciate quick reply or patch on this.
btw, when I say "global user", I'm referring to accounts that are created in Oracle using the "identified globally as" syntax.
Am I missing something?
Edited by: chromedome on Aug 9, 2010 1:49 PMThank you, this was helpful in that it caused me to try the other connection methods: Basic, TNS (as you mentioned on your blog), LDAP and Advanced, both with regular accounts and with global users, both with thin and thick drivers employed.
In all cases, using a normal Oracle account, I was able to connect.
But using a global user, with the thick/OCI client forced, I get the "Status: Failure -Test failed: oracle.jdbc.driver.T2Connection.t2cCreateState([BI[BI[BI[BI[BISI[S[B[BZ)I" message. And with the thin driver used, I get the "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" message. The possibility I have the password incorrect is non-existent as I'm both typing it in manually, and copying and pasting it, from successful global user connections in PL/SQL Developer and TOAD into SQL Developer.
SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 is not working using InstantClient 11.2 when attempting to login with a global user.
Sue/Kris, due I use "the site formerly known as Metalink" to log a bug, or are you already tackling this internally? We really need this patched soon. -

I have installed Oracle 9i enterprise edition and
also Oracle 9i Data mining (ODM).
I have lot of problems in username/password authentication.
everytime I run the ODM setup, irrespective of the default
name/password
which is ODM/odmpw it says "ORA-01017 invalid username/password: logon"
I was just working on the Oracle 9i DataMining installation and found something really interesting
I was wondering if you can solve this:
1. I created user SCOTT and ODM using SQL Plus queries by logging system/manager.
and when I typed "select username from dba_names" it gave me ODM and SCOTT as
users and hence I was happy.
2. Then I uninstalled DATA MINING suite and reinstall it thinking this time it should
get ODM/odmpw as username and password as and DBA user/password being
system/manager. When uninstalling DATA MINING suite ODM user gets dropped
and when reinstalling ODM suite, it never make ODM user back in Oracle 9i database.
Hence it is not finding ODM user anymore and hence "ORA-01017 invalid username/password: logon"
error occurs.
Now can you tell me what can be done in order to make the ODM recreate when installing
DATA MINING suite.
Please reply me as I am badly stuck.
I at least know why problem is occurring now looking for solution.
Thanks

ORA-01017: invalid username/password; how to find out orapwd files 's pwd
Hi, gurus,
I have this error after I copied primary db orapwd files over to standby instance and tried to log in sys as sysdba :
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Is this means the sys password I provided is not the one generated as per orapwd utility?
however I can log in to sys/password as sysdba if I set the oracle sid environemnt to that db.
Anybody help here?
Thanks.Hello;
In that case you would have to change the SYS password at the Primary ( so you know it ) and then do the copy and rename again.
Don't forget to stop apply on the standby and then shutdown and restart on the new password file. ( or you will have issues )

Double check of my notes
ORA-01017
Change the sys password in the primary database using the alter system command, it updates the password file in the ORACLE_HOME of the primary database, it doesn't update password file in the standby database.
In Oracle 10 you can create a password file. In Oracle 11 you must move a new copy to the standby.
