Yahoo Mail seems to drain my battery

Ok, here's my story. I'm on my second phone. I returned by first after three days because my battery seemed to drain ultra-fast. After 5 hours of standby it was dead. This was with wifi and b-tooth disabled.
The old phone had been set up to download mail from a yahoo mail account.
So I got the new phone. I didn't have time to configure it much, so I didn't set up yahoo mail. I have used it for nearly a week, intensively and the battery never falters. I don't think I've seen it below 1/2 charge.
Then last night I finally got around to firing up yahoo mail and whammo, my battery is draining fast. I'm at 1/4 charge only 7 hours after pulling it off an over-night charge.
An hour ago I shut down my yahoo mail account on the phone and it seems to be fine again.
Anyone else having this experience?
G5 dual 2GigHz - Mac Book Pro Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I agree that this behavior is very strange and I doubt it's a simple issue of accessing the yahoo servers. I should note also, that in both cases I had the email set to only check for mail when I told it to manually. I don't even have push mail enabled.
On the first phone, I had only the edge network available, and wifi and bluetooth shut down. I had a decent edge signal, around 120 kbs.
On the second phone, I'm running a mix of edge and wifi, but bluetooth is still off.
I just find it strange that there is a STARK difference between battery consumption, and the only variable is the yahoo mail account on two different phones. I'm very curious if anyone else is having this issue.
I wonder if there is some other flaw in the yahoo software causing battery drain.
For now I'm just leaving the yahoo account disabled.
I'm using Gmail, with the same settings as yahoo and roughly the same mail traffic, and having no battery issues.

  • Is there a way to disable push mail from Yahoo? It's draining my battery

I'm on the prepaid plan and every 10-15 minutes my iphone turns on with a "The last transaction cost $0.00" message. I don't mind the message (although it is a bit annoying) but my problem is that this turns the LCD on for about 2 minutes at a time.
I charged my battery to 100% last night, haven't used it at all today and after just turning it on a few minutes ago I had the "Your battery life is at 10%" message followed by a 5% remaining message a few minutes later.
I've heard that it's the yahoo push mail service thats causing the phone to give the message (since it connects to the internet). My Yahoo account is my main one and I'd hate to have to login to yahoo's site each time to check it (the email functionality was a big selling point for me with the iphone). ATT/Apple don't seem to want to disable this message/"Feature", so I'm guessing I would need to step in and do something on my end.
Is there any way to disable yahoo mail from "pushing" messages to my phone? I can hit the Check Mail button if I have to.

    Hi Everyone,
To give an update on the situation: I disabled the Yahoo account and it seems to make a VERY NOTICEABLE difference in battery life - prior to this my battery would drain quite rapidly but since disabling it it's only lost about 15-20% over the past 24 hours (and thats with using the video/music/internet functions for about an hour and a half).. Prior to this it would have been close to drained under the same circumstances.
Also, to confirm, the "Your last transaction cost 0.00" messages only appear when accessing the internet manually now. before they appeared every 10-15 minutes with no interaction from myself at all (while it was sitting idle, while watching videos, while charging, while in my pocket, etc..)
I do have it set to only check Manually but Yahoo would seem to check on it's own even though this setting is checked (I'm guessing it has to do with the Push setting). Aside from draining the battery, it was quite annoying having 30 or so "Your transaction cost $0.00" messages to click through whenever I turned on the phone.
I did have the screen set to shut off after 1 min, but the 'your transaction cost..' messages would first wake the iphone up, the screen would stay bright for about 30 seconds, dim for about 30 seconds, then turn on bright again for 1 minute until it shut off. I'm guessing the screen (being on for about 10-15 minutes per hour due to this) and the fact that yahoo accesses the internet on such a frequent basis are what cut the battery life down.
I really wish I could make Yahoo work more like Gmail and have it manually search for new mail

  • My tabs keep spinning, spinning, spinning. It seems to be affecting my Yahoo Mail and then it seems to be closing more unexpectedly. Have their been recent problems? I'm running 3.6.8.

It seems to be a Firefox issue since it doesn't matter what websites spin. I've noticed FaceBook and Yahoo Mail seem to be the consistent spinners. I've checked my internet service and there are no reported problems on that end.

I tired this and it worked!
"What Worked for me was in the address bar type about:config and change the network.http.keep-alive setting to false "

  • My iphone 4 with 5.0 trys continuously to sync with email draining my battery

My Iphone is continuously trying to sync with my mail (exchange) and drains my battery

If deleting and re-adding the account doesn't fix it, talk to your Exchange administrator. They may have something wrong on the server side or with the corporate firewall.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Yahoo mail sent items confusion.

I'm confused with how yahoo mail is working and syncing between webmail/mac mail and ipad mail.
Inbox seems to work and sync fine.
However re sent items yahoo mail seems to have 2 folders - one titled 'sent' which is mac/ipad/webmail appears near the top and another titled 'sent messages' which appears as a folder.
Messages sent from the ipad/mac i think appear in the folder 'sent messages' but from the web in 'sent.
Why can't it just sync/work with one location for all sent items?
Can gmail work with just one sent items folder? if so i may well migrate!

I'm having the same problem, and the only help I ever seem to find suggested anywhere is "make sure its set up as an IMAP account"
BUT it is! Mail automaticly sets all yahoo accounts up as IMAP. So is this just a yahoo problem? Is there anyway to fix this?
For me the bigger issue isnt that I need to be able to check my e-mail through a web browser regulerly, but on my Iphone and Ipad the account, which is through the mail app, also dosnt show sent mail sent through the mac app.
I agree this makes mail on my mac totally usless.

So contact Yahoo and find out what they are doing to resolve the connectivity issues.
None of the users in this forum, nor Apple (who does not read or reply here) can help you.

  • Yahoo mail continues to check mail stuck in loop, drains battery, heats up.

Using Yahoo mail on an iPhone 3GS with iOS4 then upgraded to iOS4.0.1, same issue.
Set Yahoo mail (pop) and it seems to check mail the checking mail spins, then it seems to start looping checking mail, it seems that it finds a different # of message that need to be loaded in. As an example, it will flash just below the message in the inbox:
    Load more messages...:
    39 total, 2 unread
Then checks mail again and flashes the same "Load Messages..." but the # are a bit different 34 total, 4 unread, flashes, then loops again back to the Load more messages... 39 total, 2 unread
Also, when I try and delete messages it will say unable to move message to trash and then the attempted "deleted" messages will pop back into the inbox of all messages.
And also sometimes it will when I try and go into the "all boxes" the message will be there, then disappear and then re appear later, or while I am reading the 1st unread message it will attempt to refresh and all the messages dis appear then quickly re appear. All this crazy mail has happened since the iOS4 & 4.0.1 update. besides being a total drag, the looping is killing the battery and heats up the iPhone in my pocket and when I hold it the unit is hotter on the backside????/

I have had the same problem - especially when out and about with 3G on. Turning the phone off and then on again [press and hold the power button] does work every time but it is a bit of a pain.
The other way is to press and hold the home button which will kill the last app [email] running or the one you are in. I've found that maneuver stops the program from continuing to check for mail and running down the battery. It is less effective at getting mail to connect properly again.
I have not found it necessary to delete and add accounts and so forth.

  • TS3899 How to cancel a sent file that seems too big to be sent - but keeps trying thus draining the battery?

How do I cancel a file that is trying to be sent but seems too big to be sent - it keeps trying to send andconstantly drains the battery.
    Sandy

Try force-closing Mail: double-tap the home button, locate Mail in the list at the bottom, tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap to close it, finish by tapping the home button.  Then go the you email provider's webmail site (such as iCloud.com for @me.com mail), log into your account and delete any emails you find in your Drafts folder.  Then open Mail again and see if it stopped trying to send.

  • I have 2 questions regarding the iphone 5. 1 How do i get my yahoo mail set up. I tried the setting it up as both a yahoo mail and other mail. 2. I seem to have lost my notes on my iphone 5 but I have them on my ipad. How can I use cloud to sync my notes?

I will address your second question.
First, make sure your iPhone and iPad have absolutely identical Apple IDs.  If they do, use that Apple ID in Settings > iCloud on your iPhone to select the "Notes" option.  Lo and behold, all your iCloud notes should appear on your iPhone.

  • Why can I no longer seemingly have the "option" in Yahoo Mail, to "View" attachments, and not just "download" them in my incoming emails?

When I use IE browser to open my YAHOO EMAIL "classic" or "New" account, and I open an "inbox email", I have the option of "viewing" attachments, or "downloading" attachments.
I used to have that "dual" option, seemingly, using Firefox Browser, which I prefer to use.
Now, when I open my "Classic" or "New" Yahoo Email Account/s, with Firefox Browser, I no longer have the option, seemingly, to "VIEW" the attachments, but only the option to "Download" them, which I prefer not to do.
I have tried this using the older version 3.6 and the new version 9 of Firefox with the same results. No "Dual Attachment Viewing/Downloading" option in Yahoo Mail anymore in either the "Classic" or "New" versions of Yahoo Mail.
Can I correct this or change this back to the older "DUAL" OPTION of "Viewing" and/or "Downloading" attachments...or is this just the way the New FireFox Browser works.?
This is only happening to me with YAHOO.COM Email Accounts.

Thank you! I suppected it would be in the settings somewhere. I' ve much to learn...get myself into trouble pushing buttons I don't really understand.

  • When I use Firefox for Yahoo mail the tabs such as sign out, search email, help seem to be disabled. How do I make them work? Works in Internet Explorer

There are a number of tabs at top of my inbox such as sign out, search email, help, etc. They do not work. For example cannot insert a name for search email- will not give me the curser to do this. When I use internet explorer these tabs do work so not a problem with Yahoo mail- must be problem with Firefox. Recently updated Firefox.

SafeBrowser posted Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.
    See --> http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
I disabled the Babylon extension and Yahoo Mail works now.
    Thank you SafeBrowser

  • Why does the e-mail app drain my battery?

I have a itouch 4. i have reset it a few times. i have rebooted it a few times. I have turned off the battery-draining apps. Despite all of this -- the itouch battery drains in minutes when I use e-mail.
    Regards
    David

Well Mail drains your battery if you have 'Push' turned on. Push basically contacts your server in the background to check if you have a new e-mail and so it drains out your battery. You can turn it off and select Fetch manually.
