Zebra ZPL code

We use smartform to print label using Zebra printer. Is there a way to get the ZPL code generated by the spool request.
Regards

Hello
For the Zebra printers and Smartforms refer to SAP notes:
750002 - Smart Forms: Support for Zebra label printer (ZPL2)
750772 - Information on the ZPL-II printer driver for SmartForms

• Preview (convert) Zebra ZPL output to image

I am creating a utility that allows our production floor the ability to adjust the printing of labels without getting into the actual code. This is easy enough to do (simply provide a way to adjust input parameters).
What would be really neat is if I could show them exactly what their changes do to the finished label (in real time) without them having to do a sample print. I am basically looking for a way to render the ZPL code into a viewable image so that they see on the screen what will be printed.
Anyone have any experience with this? I suppose I could create a full "compiler" of sorts that takes the ZPL code and converts it into an image (just like the actual printer does), but that seems like a LOT of effort. I'm hoping there's a utility out there that does something like this already.
Thanks!

Labelary offers a RESTful API for generating images/PDFs of ZPL. You'll need to allow for an external network connection, and you're relying on their uptime rather than just your own, but you should be able to add a Web Service to your project that sends off your ZPL and then receives the image. Alternatively, you could embed a browser window to preview the label content.
There are a couple of other possibilities - if you're using a networked Zebra printer you should be able to preview through the web management system. Alternatively, you could try finding a third party piece of software and point it at a temporary file with your label settings.

• Printing ZPL code directly to a printer

In my abap program a have a string that contains ZPL code. I'd like to send that ZPL code directly to the user's local printer. Is there a way to do this in ABAP? I looked at FM PRINT_TEXT but I'm not sure if that is the best way to do it.
If I were to do this outside of SAP. I would call up the windows command prompt and type:
copy C:\Label.txt LPT1
I just don't know how to do this from ABAP.
Thank you,

Hi,
We do not need /E option in smartform since we can make use of program lines and write the code as we write it in se38. here we do not have any elements nor we make use of them as we do it in scripts..we used to make use in scriots since we need to code for a window separtly and call by means of /E but know we need not need it rather create progam lines in window where u want to wite the code and use it . It works similar to the /e...try this.

• Zebra ZPL II Commands e.g. ^PW in SIFbA ?

Hello.
we're using a smartform for label printing on a Zebra GK420T printer.
This works fine.
Now we had created a new SIFbA form with same functionality. But the
output is not satisfying, because the Zebra printer does not use the right
print width. So the output is displaced and shifted.
In the smartform we used ZPL II command '^PW304' to set the right
printwidth.
Is there a way to get this command working also for SIFbA by modifying the
azpl203.XDC File ?
And if so, where to put this command ?
Or are there other hints for designing labels with SIFbA on Zebra printers ?
Thanks.
Sebastian Hockmann

Hi Sebastian,
I'm not sure why you use the script to change to portrait, when I print as landscape to zebra its fine.
Try to do the following:
Increase the page size to something larger than your pagesize, after that map out your layout like in my picture:
This way you will know which part of the form is the area that prints.
The reason I suggest this is that when I was on an older version of ADS (version 8.xxx) The area in which the label started was from 2 inches and downward, like in the previous picture i posted.
The more numbers you have the easier itll be for you to determine which part of the form is printing.
Let me know if this helps

• XML Publisher - Zebra ZPL-based can receive XML output

Recently announced, Zebra offers direct communication capabitilies between ZPL Zebra printer and Oracle XML publisher.
How is this solution different from the Zebra XML enabled printer solution which is already in WMS?

Previously, thermal printers could only communicate directly with Oracle XML Publisher using open source drivers, which led to slower printing and reduced productivity.
...with direct communication capability between Zebra thermal printers and Oracle applications using Oracle XML Publisher, Zebra customers can fully realize the power of Oracle's publishing solution.

• Increase print rate, print speed zebra printer (zpl)

Hello,
first I start with release info:
SAP system N22 (only ABAP system), which calls Adobe Form processing
Windows 2008 SP1
Oracle 11
SAP ECC 6.0
SAPKB70103
SAPKH60403
SAP ADS system AD0 (only Java system):
Windows 2003 SP2
Oracle 10
SAP Netweaver 7.0 Java with Enhancement Package 1
Versioninformation given by report FP_PDF_TEST_00: 802.20090618120017.572641
We use a ordinary Zebra printer with internal print server (ZM400-200E-0100T).
In N22 there is an output device defined with device type "AZPL203 : ZPL203 for pdf documents only".
Printing works but print speed/rate is always lowest (2 Inch/s) and I find no SAP-way changing it. (Why SAP does not give maxmimum speed in zpl?)
Lowest speed in ZPL-code is represented by ^PRA . I find this string:
- in spool files on N22 (example: SPOOL0000014926_00001.zpl)
- in xdc file on AD0: E:\usr\sap\AD0\SYS\global\AdobeDocumentServices\lib\zpl203.xdc, line: "<seq id="startDoc">XA
PRALH0,3
XZ
</seq>"
Changing the string in that file does not work. Creating a complete new output device in N22 with new xdc file zzpl203.xdc does not work too.
Another way of changing print speed is described in the documentation "SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe, customizing Printing Workflows, (SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS13 or higher), Document Version 2.0 - August 2007". In chapter 4.3 "Changing the print speed setting" is described a job profile named ZPLSettings.xml, which should be used. In that file I do not find printRate.
Who can help?
Kind Regards
Walter Habich

Hi Ale,
You dont need a Zebra bar one tool for printing graphics from smartforms. You need to have propers drivers and proper settings in place. Take a look at the OSS notes 750772 - Information on the ZPL-II printer driver for SmartForms
Check the point 5 in the above oss notes:
5) Support of bitmap graphics
Colored bitmap graphics from SmartForms are changed to black and white when you print from the LZPL printer driver. If the picture quality is affected by this conversion, change the graphic to B/W with a graphics program (such as PaintShop Pro), and import it to SmartForms as as a black and white graphic. Monochrome graphics are not converted by the driver. However, all graphics may be justified to adjust the size of the graphic to the printer resolution (203, 300 or 600 dpi).
During the import to SmartForms, you have the option to flag a bitmap as "resident". In this case, the LZPL printer driver saves the graphic in the RAM of the printer when it first occurs (Device "R:" of the zebra printer). At the end of the spool request, the driver deletes the graphic again from the printer's RAM, so that no more memory remains occupied.
Resident graphics during label printing from SmartForms are therefore only faster if more than one label is printed within a spool request, and the resident graphic is repeated on each label.
I hope this info helps.

• Make a label with Zebra's ZPL II language

Post Author: rpt_Maker
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
All our labels are currently printed with Crystal 9.0 labels from our ERP application. All rpts use a SQL stored procedure as the record source, with the report fields on the crystal report just like any other report. They all work fine, though they run a little slow.
Someone told me that using the ZPL II (Zebra Programming Language) makes the labels print faster. She sent me an example rpt but I didn't have time to research it and now that I do have time, I have the report but can't remember who I got it from. I'm having trouble getting started making my own, using her example. (I have her rpt but not the sp.) The output simply prints all the commands as strings.
I have a Zebra TLP 2844-Z and the driver is Printer:
SYTETEST1Zebra TLP2844-Z
Port: USB001
Product: Zebra ZPL-II Driver
Version: 7.0.2
Build Target: Windows 2000, XP
Build Date: 2/9/2006, 1:41 PM
Copyright ©1998-2006 Seagull Scientific, Inc.
Is anyone using Crystal and ZPL II ? I'd like to hear from you.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

I have had a similar issue in that I like my labels to align left and haven't found a good way to do it, except to go in and do each on individually. Anybody any ideas?

• A question on different zebra printer dpi printing - sapscript

Hello,
We have an existing sapsript (with ZPL code) to print label via a zebra printer (300dpi). There is a requirement to print

Hi,
You should generate a new label file and upload it to a new sapscript form as described in note #179534.

• SmartForms w/ Printronix SL4M RFID printer in Zebra emulation mode

Trying to get a basic Smartform to print using a new printer. It is a Printronix SL4M RFID printer that emulates several printer modes, including Zebra.
The printer was changed to Zebra mode, device type in SAP is LZEB2. Configuration printout on the printer shows it in Zebra mode and using a 203 dpi printer head. Configuration is all defaults (command prefix, label prefix, etc).
Output generates in SAP. Spool is ok. Print preview is ok. Completes with no errors in SAP. Physical printer is giving intermittent results. Usually, no output at all. One time, we got half a label that actually contained valid data. Sometimes we get "invalid data" messages on the printer. Last test spit out two blank labels.
Unfortunately the printer is in Germany and I am in the US. Going to try to change the printer to "ZGL QUIET". This is supposed to print out the ZPL code as text. Want to see if any control characters are getting changed. Also checking settings that are code page/language specific.
Looking for any suggestions. Thanks.
Norm

Gave up with SmartForms using the Zebra device type LZEB2. It was going to a Printronix printer that emulates a Zebra. Was not sure if it would work and had to move on. Will go back later and attempt.
Also, Printronix provides SAP device types for use through SmartForms. Others have used successfully. We had problems installing at our current release level.
Switched to SAPscript. Had issues with ZPL control characters being substituted in the default European configuration on the physical printer. Made changes and had some success.
Using one of the international character sets seems to be working.
European character set #300 - Latin 2 8859-2.
It does not replace the Zebra control characters for caret and tilda.
It also does not seem to replace the Printronix control characters caret, left and right curly brackets.
Added commands to the SAPscript layout set. Still need to perform some additional testing, but last tests were successful.
ZPL II command
^CI300
Printronix PGL command
^i300^-

• SAPScript print on Zebra 2746

We need to print to an old Zebra 2746 using ZPL code inside a SAPScript.
Unfortunately we can't find a way to do it (and we can't find a a driver specific for such printer).
Does anyone use Zebra 2746? If yes, what kind of driver are you using?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Simone Zaffalon

Hello,
See SAP note 750002 and 750002.
You can try device type SAPWIN also.

• Interactive Forms - Print orientation - ZPL

Hi,
i am going to create my first label on a zebra printer with adobe forms (LiveCycle-Designer 8.2). When i print the label with a portrait-format everything is fine.
In a special case the height of the label is about 2cm and the width is 10cm. So the masterpage automatically turns to landscape-format. The preview is ok but when i print on the zebra the label is rotated with 90 degrees.
I think the landscape-format changes the ZPL-code.
Has anybody experiences with this penomenon?
best regards
Frank Thomas

Hello Markus,
ok, thanks a lot. I got it and it works fine for me :-)
Maybe, you know how to adjust paper width on a zebra printer ?
We did use ZPL command ^PW in smartforms.
But i don't know how to use this in AdobeForms ?
When using DeviceType AZPL203 (zpl203.xdc) the output
is shifted to the left.

• Zebra printing in Java

I need to design class wich print labels using Zebra printer.
I tried to send ZPL code to printer .It does not work.
Does anyone have idea how to send ZPL code to printer?

I was able to send the codes using the Java Comm API, but I am still having problems with this. Did you come up with any other solution to your problem I would be greatly in your debt if you could help me with this. Thanks

• Zebra label printing with Smartforms

Hi
I am currently using smartforms to print to Zebra printers. the fields are printing on Portrait format, i am not able to get them to print Landscape. I used the documented Command Node in Smartforms -
Attribute Name: S_LZPL_SETUP
Attribute Value: '^FWR'
this is still not working for me...am i doing something wrong in this Command line?
Documentation says i can only use Portrait in smartforms because Zebras doesn't understand Landscape...documentation offers the above workaround, but it doesnt seem to work for me...has it work for any of you?

Hello again,
currently i have some smartforms printing to zebra printers, and i did it, using BARONE for ZPL generation.
it's exactly the same thing, you create a main window, and in the text editor toy click "TxtEditor" just above the "Check" buttonm and you pass to the sapscript tradicional editor. In there copy adn paste the ZPL code.
Define the parameters in the "Form interface" and i'ts done.
this way you will be able to resolve your problem, it's up to you to use (or not) the barone for Smartforms.
Regards,
