I hate to play the "poor helpless female" , but at age 65 that's exactly what I am . I've had my player for 2 /2 weeks, and yesterday I re-charged my battery for the first time. Ever since then, my player cannot be recognized by my computer. I've unstalled and reinstalled all the software twice without any luck. It is recognized by the Device Manager (with the yellow exclamation mark beside it). I even downloaded new firmware, but since my player is not recognized, I can't install that!?My operating system is Windows XP SP2 with WMP 0. I've read where you should go into the registry and re-do part of that, but the thought of doing that scares me to death. I've always been told not to mess with the registry. Is there any other fix I could do? If anyone needs any additional information, I'd be happy to provide it. I need help desparately!? Thanks so much!

This error gave me four days of untold misery before Google landed me on this post. I have no words to thank you. This solution worked like a charm on my pc. Thanks again.

  • Cannot Install this Hardware - The system cannot find the file specified.

I got an 8G ipod touch last week. When I plug it into USB port on my PC, a Found New Hardware Wizard box pops up with "Cannot Install this Hardware", "There was a problem installing this hardware: Apple Mobile Device USB Driver", "An error occurred during the installation of the device", "The system cannot find the file specified.", "Click Finish to close the wizard.". If I go ahead and click finish, the device disappears and a couple of seconds later tries to install again and the box pops up again. However, if I leave the box alone, the ipod does actually appear in itunes and I can sync music to it, so all is not lost Any ideas though how to stop this error box popping up? The USBAAPL.SYS driver exists - I don't know what file it cannot find. Thanks.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
if you have a Leopard OSX DVD you can use it to install the BootCamp 2.0 drivers and later use the BC Update 2.1 for XP to further update the drivers.
If not (still running OSX Tiger) there are two possibilities:
use this direct download link for the latest ATI/AMD Mobility Driver package http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/
or use the ModTool found here http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php in conjunction with the ATI/AMD Desktop Driver package.
You should also consider getting and installing the latest (June 2008) DirectX 9 package from Microsoft.
Hope it helps with your gaming problems.

  • "Found New Hardward Wizard" tells me I Cannot install this hardware

When I plug my ipod in the "Found New Hardward Wizard" appears. It displays:
    cannot install this hardware
    An error occurred
    The data is invalid
After this the ipod does not appear in My Computer, I have looked on Device Manager in Universal Serial Bus Controller but it does not appear there either.
The ipod screen lights up when connected but it will not charge. PLEASE HELP ME.

Try to use different USB ports..
Plug in the USB cable to the port first and then to the iPod adjust if necessary.
Buy or borrow another USB cable.
Try to plug the iPod into another computer
    Get the newer iPods :P

  • New ipod - "cannot install this hardware" and "access is denied"

Over the weekend I got a new iPod Video. Previously I had an iPod Photo. This new one plugged in just fine on my two computers at home but will not install to my work computer.
It will work as I can play and transfer files through iTunes, but everytime I plug it in I get USB errors:
"Windows cannot install this hardware - access is denied"
In the Device Manager it gives me a "Code 28"
Like I said, it does seem to work, I just want to make sure this isn't going to screw anything up when I plug in each day and get these errors.

  • Cannot Install This Hardware (Urgent!!)

I just got an ipod nano as a present today and i went to put music on it and i can't even get it connected to the computer. When i plug the nano in i get the 'found new hardware' wizard. But when it goes to search for the software to install it i get "The Hardware was not isntalled because the wizard cannot find the necessary software"
i've had an ipod mini for a year and a half before this so i thought it might've been the old itunes/ipod software so i uninstalled all of that and reinstalled with the new software. That didn't help and ive tried that several times.
ive also tried using the manual disc thing (pressing the menu and select button then pressing the select and play) and ive tried restarting the nano.
i thought maybe it was the wire that connected it so i went and got the wire from my mini and that won't work either.
help!! im leaving on a trip tomorrow morning and need to get this fixed today

+It recognize it as a digital still camera but when it goes to transfer the drivers it say Cannot Install this Hardware Data error ( cyclic redundancy check). If I go to the device manager it say the drivers for this device are not installed. (code 28) any one have any clue on what to do+
"Cyclic redundancy check" can indicate disk damage on the PC. If the disk damage is in the area of driver files, you can get similar messages from your device manager. Seen this happen once or twice with USB Mass Storage Drivers and iPods here at Discussions (even down to the code 28), although it was pretty rare as causes for iPod errors go.
So, it might be worth running a Chkdsk over your C Drive:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage?
If so, does that get you past the problem with the iPhone?

  • Cannot Install This Hardware (audigy 2 zs gam

i have a Sony vaio pcv-rx650, xp home sp2, plenty of pci slots, updated chipset(motherboard), updated bios, and every other update i can find find on sony /microsoft support. yet from the first time i tried to install my sound card following the instructions i have Ben getting the same two basic errors.
the instructions say to install the soundcard, turn on computer, cancel "hardware update wizard", insert disc and follow instructions.
. when canceling the update wizard it tries to install the card anyways. not once but three times: Multimedia Audio Controller, IEEE 394 Controller, and PCI Input Device. at the end of which it says "Problem with hardware cannot install". alright no problem I'm not done with the instructions but it didn't say anything about this.
    2. I go through the lengthy driver software install only to receive an error with driver install. it reads"Cannot Install This Hardware. there was a problem installing this hardware: Multimedia Audio Controller. An error occurred during the installation of the device. The Data Is Invalid" this little phrase has become the bane of my existence.
Naturally i seek out alternati'ves. i uninstall every last reference to software i can find. after talking by e-mail with the support people i tried the CTZAPXX.exe method using msconfig during to avoid conflicts....
Now i have tried this method with drivers that shipped with the card i have also tried it with the web update drivers even the new one that just came out that combine the two old ones. i have even tried a whole new card just in case it was broken. i have searched all over sony's web site for anyone else that is having this problem and found no one. i have gone into the bios and disabled the onboard soundcard and all non essential ports. i have even tried toggling every setting that the knowledge base suggested(that i could find). yet everytime its the same. new hardware is detected multimedia, IEEE, PCI input all three. and always the same error exclamations in device manager before i can even begin to install the drivers. when i try to install the card using hardware wizard it recognizes it as a SB Audigy sound card but when the drivers are finished installing the same error comes up "the data is invalid".
why does this keep happening. i have never had this much trouble with any hardware on any computer ever. this is more frustrating than i can express in an e-mail. its been months now. i really want my audigy obviously. but i am at an impasse.

I've the same problem here: "Data Is Invalid"
I've spent -read wasted- an inordinate number of hours troubleshooting this.
So far, installing the Audigy 2 ZS is impossible for me on WinXP Pro SP2.
What have I attempted so far?
    * Clean install of OS w/SP2 with and without soundcard in a PCI slot.
    * Tried all PCI slots.
    * Installed downloadable drivers, in correct order.
    * Installed from CD, "drivers only" AND full install of everything under the ZS category.
    * Tried the PNPREG.EXE -l business... nada.
    * Onboard audio disabled in BIOS.
    * BIOS told that OS was and was NOT PnP.
    * Uninstall/reinstall of drivers in "Normal" Windows and Safe Mode.
    * Device manager driver update with both CD and extracted downloaded drivers.
    * CTZAPXX.exe on both install and uninstall modes.
Every time, the install process chokes when it gets to (WDM) WDMAUD.DRV
Still the Device Manager bang sits there on "Multimedia Audio Controller". Searches on MS Technet with combination of keywords Audigy, driver, error and SP2 yield nothing of use.
I DID find a way to install the card- Only have SPa installed on Windows.
This is unacceptable and it is not justified not having SP2 installed just because of one lousy driver for an audio card.
I believe my only hope of success is to install, again, Windows with SPa only and ensure the card works... then install the SP2 package.
Assistance would be _greatly_ appreciated. All drivers on computer are current and official, and BIOS is current. No overclocking either. I'm not really interested in selling this audio card, but...
    Best regards-

  • Getting started, set up wizard says cannot install this hardware

My old 20gb iPod died after three years today so I went straight out and bought an 80gb clasic. When I got home and connect it the found new hardware wizard states; 'Cannot install this hardware, there was a problem installing this hardware, Apple iPod USB driver, an error occurred during the installation of this device, the system cannot find the file specified, click finish to close the wizard'
    Any ideas people?

Are you using the latest version of iTunes? If you're using 7.3 or earlier, chances are the Classic will not install properly.

    Try this: rename/remove wdf01000.sys from windows\system32\drivers\
Next time you plug your phone, the USB Phone Parent driver will be automatically installed (or upgrade drivers from Device Manager in Control Panel > System > Hardware. If not, try to uninstall all nokia apps (pc suite, etc), rename the file above, then install the nokia apps.

  • Cannot Install this Hardware - can't find the drivers on the cd

    Hey Guys,
Well, I have this 2GB Nano since March and trying again to install it. Itunes does not recognize the device. I have done the 5 Rs and the press and hold procedure now twice successfully...but the Itunes does not see the nano.
The computer can find the hardware, prompts me to put the cd in, it searches for the driver and then tells me it can't find it.
Any suggestions? I appreciate your help guys! Tom

  • IPod Touch 3, win xp32, "Cannot install this hardware"

I updated my iTunes to the last version today ( 10.3.1.55 ) and noticed there was a new update 4.3.3 (don't remember exactly) for my iPod Touch 3. I synced and was told I needed to authorize my computer. All I changed on my computer was my cpu, same windows, same harddisks and all. Ok, I authorized my computer (now it says 2 out of 5 wich should be 1 out 5..) and finished syncing. Next there was a sound as if I disconnected a device on USB, and then another one telling me I connected a device again. Then my windows tells me that it cannot find drivers for my iPod Touch (recovery), and I need a cd. I tried using the driver in C:\program files\common files\apple\mobile device support\drivers\usbaapl.inf, but iTunes don't recognize it anymore. Also my windows tries to install another driver for the exact same iPod Touch (recovery) as before, failing when I try the same driver or if windows tries finding one for me. iTunes cannot see any device, and I cannot do anything on my iPod anymore. All it shows is a usb and an arrow pointing to iTunes.

    Snip
1: If I reinstall iTunes on this computer, what happens to my notes, contacts and calendar?
A: They should still be on your iPod/computer. To be safe, copy the backup file and store it in a safe place. It is located:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
2: And what about games I have on my iPod like Angry Birds etc., will I have to start all over again?
A: They will be save in the iPod backup file if yo ned to restore from backup.
3: If I install iTunes on another computer, where can I find and restore my backup?
A; See answer to my first question. Yes, if you move/copy the backup file you can restore the iPod on another computer.

  • "cannot install this hardware" usb data cable

Then it continues to say because cannot find the neccessary software for installion.
I have nokia 6230i which i just got back from nokia after they fixed the battery problem and slow menus (i presume they just updated the firmware?)
My cable says ma-8630 on it
it always used to work but now i've reinstalled windows and now when trying to using the newest pc suite it just doesn't want to install the cable
so is it more likely when nokia were fixing my phone they've done something so pc suite won't recognise it?!
i'm pretty stumped after not having any problems before but i just can't seem to get any further than installing the cable
any help would be much appreciated... cheers Nick

YOu say you have reinstalled Windows and you have non-Nokia cable in use and your phone has been just updated. Ups, I woulsay it is pretty tricky to try to remotely figure out what can be the root cause.
What is your Windows version ? Do you get the question in phone screen when you connect to allow data storage and you select "no" ? Please descibe in more detail what happens, then it is easier to suggest ideas for fixing the situation.

  • Ipod:  Cannot Install this hardware

Hi, I've been perusing this website for a period of days and am just know begging for help. I must have some kind of issue with my drivers on my Dell Inspirion and my computer does not recognize my new Ipod Nano 8GB. It has been recognized at both my office and my brother's PC so I know it can't be my Ipod.
I have tried the following to no avail:
    The 5 R's (numerous times)
    Conversation with Apple help-line
1 1/2 hours with Dell that included reconfiguring many things on my PC
and what seems like a million things
I guess my question is - Is there a way to figure out what driver (s) is (are) missing and can I jsut find them and download them. I even reset my drivers to the factory settings from Dell (or repaired them from their website).
Long story short, this is exactly the MP3 player that I wanted but, I'm not going to drop another $1,000 on a PC if I can't make them compatible....I'll just return the Ipod and get another MP3 player.
Any and all advice is requested and appreciated.
    Thanks!

I've had my laptop for a little over a year now and it's had it's fair share of problems, most of which are fixable or there is a workaround.
Earlier today I inserted a disc into the drive and tried opening it up, went into "My Computer" and found the disc drive was not listed.
This has happened once or twice before and a simple restart fixes the problem.
I've restarted twice and this time the problem wasn't fixed, after going into "Device Manager" I found there was a problem with the device and it gave me the following error
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."
As usual 'Check for soulutions' is useless and returned no results.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

This is a little bit strange for me... anyway I will try to help you.
It seems that the registry keys are corrupt and therefore your CD/DVD drive cannot work properly.
