Appearance of panels in workspace

It's frustrating me that the panels windows take up so much space on screen.  It's mainly the width of the panel.  I'm constantly having to move the panels over and back in forth in order to see what I'm doing.  Any remedy for this?  Here's what it looks like.... Nearly 1/3 of the workspace is taken up.  Is there any way to make the panel thinner?

OK.  In Preferences > Interface make sure you have Auto show hidden panels checked, and turn off the panels with the Tab key.  They will then fly out when you hover the mouse cursor over the edge of the screen.
I am not familiar with Mac OS, but it is super easy to set up an extended dual screen with Windows 7.  I am sure it will be just as easy for you.  The two screens in my Workspace are a 30 inch Dell Ultrasharp (1920 x 1200) and a 19 inch 4:3 Philips (1280 x 1024).  Having those panels permanently is extremely useful.  I can Ctrl click a work path to load it as a selection.  I can immediately access brush shapes and dynamics.  Alpha channels, colour swatches, adjustment layer and mask properties, and all of it immediately there.    I would hate to have to work any other way now.
BTW  You can save custom keyboard shortcuts with custom Workspaces.  Check out this video for some great info on the subject.

  • Adobe seeking feedback about panels, palettes, workspaces, and other UI elements

    Several folks within Adobe are discussing the user interfaces for our various applications, and we'd like your feedback.
    Do you use After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom? Other Adobe applications?
    If so, please post your comments on this forum thread comparing your experiences with the user interfaces of these applications.
    Regarding the panels, palettes, workspaces, and overall UI paradigms in these applications: What do you like? What do you hate? Do you care that the applications are different in this regard? What differences do you even notice?

    Primarily using AE/PP with often PS as well, some illustrator.
    I don't think the UI itself -- panels palettes workspaces etc -- need much work, they are overall greatly improved in the last 5+ years & for the most part much ahead of competition. More attention should probably be put into other items that need improved, many of which already came up listed here.
    One thing, I wish text brightness was added as customizable as well as the UI slider; I don't like the text brightness on the lower and higher end of the slider, wish I could customize it.
    BUG since as far as I can remember, maybe CS3 or earlier: workspaces need to remember multiple monitor setups!
    The problem is, I snap off my timeline into a separate window, and make it full screen.
    Now, if have an explorer/finder window open on the screen where the project & monitors panels where, everything opens fine & my full, double screen layout opens just as I left it.
    However, if I open the project from the monitor that say, my full screen timeline is in, the project/monitor panels etc come up in that same screen, undernearth the timeline.  So I have to nudge the timeline window down, and double click the primary premiere pro window, and for some reason that maximizes it to the other screen).  Then bring my timeline window back into place.
    For this reason alone I kind of like making a single window layout that's just 2-screens wide (Avid-esk), however, I run different resolutions on the monitor and this really complicates things if I'm trying to use all of my screenspace, when two or more monitors have different heights for resolution.  Also, in this setup, all progress windows appear right in the middle, so it's split between the two monitors.  This could be improved.
    Another request would definitely be to make hotkeys and things like timeline navigation more universal among your apps.  I run Avid+custom setup on my hotkeys in PP--I jump into AE, and every last button is different, and in AE it's not nearly as easily customizable. Same for Encore's, etc.  I'd LOVE for a change in PP's hotkey to reflect how it works in AE, Encore, and even PS in video mode, etc.
    Simarly, as mentioned on this forum, I hate how blending mode changes in PS is arrows keys, on AE is shift + or -, and totally manual (mouse--annoying) in PP.  If there's one thing I wished was improved, it would be to make this particular task universal among Adobe apps.
    I also really miss the hotkey property drop downs from AE when in any other program (c for opacity, a for anchor, etc).  I'd love to see them make it into other apps.
    Try not to hide things in the panel's window, coming from "hamburger menu's", I like that CS5 has kept things well enough organized to not have a bunch of important options there that are easy to miss.
    Speaking of buttons, I think you'd find it rewarding to add 'fit to fill' and other fit clip options into buttons. They are extremely hidden right now, because you only see the options if you set 4 in/out points and don't drag/drop, which most users will never do.  Additionally, "solo" & "mute" buttons for audio tracks, which are right there on the audio mixer, just makes sense, add them.
    Another important one is you need to make everything keyboard mappable.  Like in MC, all buttons and actions need to be mappable--just the drop down menus and the few extras you have listed doesn't cut it.  I agree with others here, the keyboard visual layout would be dandy here.
    Definitely a +1 to improving thumbnail views.  Really quite bad right now.  Need much more customization in sizes thatn just 3 sizes, and a thumbnail + info view (like script view in MC) makes it so you can both see and sort the info, and see the clip at the same time, which is ideal for me.  Be able to customize the thumbnail, maybe a special type of marker that's put in from the preview window?
    Hope this helps.  For the most part the UI's are really great; it's the thing that most other NLE users are complaining about in their software, not Adobe users.  Often in their forums I'll see posts comparing things to PPro's UI and pointing out how much better developed it is & that particular app should do something similar to what Adobe did.  In my experience, anyway

  • Can't get Componant to appear in Panel...

    Im trying to make an Image appear as my Panel backround, here is the code for the Panel:
    public class LeftPanelEarth extends JPanel
         public LeftPanelEarth()
             this.add(new MapComponant());
             this.add(new JButton("TestButton"));
         public class MapComponant extends JComponent
         public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
             Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
              /**Image map = null;
              try {
                   map = javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(new java.net.URL(getClass().getResource("calgary_small.gif"), "calgary_small.gif"));}
                   catch (MalformedURLException mue) {       }
                  catch (IOException ioe) {          }
                   if (map != null)
                        g2.drawImage(map,
                                  0,
                                  0,
                                  200,
                                  200,
                                  this);
                   Rectangle box = new Rectangle(5,10,20,30);
                                  g2.draw(box);
    }It will add the Test button, but won't add the componant. I replaced the image with a box to see if that would work and it still wont. Any ideas, or if this is even the way to make a backround image. I looked at the Panel Javadocs and there was no meathod to set a backround. I think that would be useful.

    Assuming that the Image loading code is correct...
    I believe the image loading occurs in a different thread. No, ImageIO.read is synchronous.
    1) Load the image outside of paintComponentYes
    2) Use MediaTracker to wait until the Image loading is finishedNo need to (see first comment)

  • Dreamweaver Workspace problems

    Hi,
    I am missing workspace tools and panels in my DW like they are in the show Learn DW - Worspace Overview (http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs6/workspace-overview/)
    Could you please advise me how to get back to my Dreamweaver panels and Workspace switcher? If I click on "manage workspaces" there are none.
    What I have already tried:
    clearing Dreamweaver preferences (via tutorial Restore preferences -  http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html)
    stopping syncronizing of workspaces with the 2nd computer ( manage sync settings - sync settings all unchecked, conflict resolutions: Ask my preference)
    deactivating & reacivating the Creative Cloud account
    NOT RESOLVED
    System:
    MacBook Air - OS X version 10.8.4.
    Dreamweaver CC - version 13.1, build 6443
    My DW screenshot

    The Workspace Overview video is for Dreamweaver CS6. You're using Dreamweaver CC, which has only two built-in workspaces: Compact and Expanded. However, the principle remains exactly the same. You can rearrange the panels however you like, and then save your own workspace.
    To convert the Insert panel into the Insert bar (as in the Classic workspace), drag the tab of the Insert panel to detach it from the panel group, and move it up towards the top of the screen. When it fades and a blue bar appears at the top of the screen, release the mouse button, and it snaps to the top as the Insert bar.

  • Acrobat workspaces - published folios not viewable

    Hi
    I normally use acrobat workspaces to view the size of DPS articles that i create and publish.
    In the past i have just had to log in to the workspaces paneln and any DPS folios that i have uploaded are viewable in the lefthand panel under the heading Shared Workspaces.
    I logged in today and my most recently published folios are not visable in this panel.
    Is there something that i need to do to get the folios to show up here?  They have always been automatically available to view here without me needing to do anything and i don't think that i did anything differently from my normal DPS publishing procedure.
    Thanks,
    Ben.

    That's correct. DPS servers are now independent of acrobat.com, so the folios and articles no longer appear in acrobat.com workspaces.  Displaying the article size in the Folio Producer is on the roadmap. Until it's implemented, one workaround is to view the size of the .folio file for each article in the temporary folder. (It helps to create a shortcut/alias for the temp folder.)
    On a Mac, it's located in <username> > Library > Preferences > StageManager.#### > Local Store > dmp. (With the newest Mac OS versions, hold down Option and choose Go > Library.)
    On a PC, the temp folder is located in [username] > AppData > Roaming > StageManager.#### > Local Store > dmp.

  • How to load and save custom workspaces in PE7

    I've written a little utility which allows PE7 users to load and save custom workspaces. It's attached to post #1 of this thread.
    System requirements
    The utility has been tested with Windows XP Pro SP3 only. It might or might not run under Vista. It will only work with PE7 installations where the executable files are in the default places.
    Installation
    When you have downloaded the utility (it's only 199KB) you can run it from any convenient place in your system - it doesn't need to be installed as such.
    Usage
    It's pretty self-explanatory in use but here's the manual!
    Run the downloaded utility "PE7WS.exe".
    A file selection dialog appears. Choose the workspace layout file you wish to use. "LastUsed.layout" is the last used workspace (that's all you will be offered the first time you run the program). If you press Cancel at this point, the program will exit and nothing will happen.
    Once you have selected the workspace, click "Open" and Premiere Elements 7 will run, using the workspace layout you chose.
    After you exit from Premiere Elements 7, a workspace layout file save dialog will appear. If you made changes to the workspace during your Premiere Elements 7 session, you can now give the revised workspace a name and save it.
    Do not save the workspace in a different directory from that which the dialog offers!
    If you have changed an existing custom workspace, and you want to update the version previously stored, just select the name and over-write the saved workspace layout with the new one.
    If you don't want to save the workspace at all, just click "Cancel" - next time you run Premiere Elements, you can choose the "LastUsed.layout" workspace to use that last used unsaved workspace in any event.
    If you use the PE7WS utility to run Premiere Elements 7, and then you use the menu option "Window > Restore Workspace", then exit, you can either cancel the workspace saving stage, (which will mean that "LastUsed.layout" will contain that default workspace), or you could give that default workspace a name like "PE7 Default" so you can start a future Premiere Elements 7 session with the default workspace, even though you last used a custom workspace.
    If you run Premiere Elements 7 in the usual way without using PE7WS.exe, the workspace that appears will be the last used one.
    The usual disclaimer...
    The utility should be entirely safe in use, but I can't accept responsibility for any loss or damage it might cause. However, the only file manipulation is does is to workspace files in the directory that Premiere Elements 7 uses purely for the purpose - the utility doesn't go anywhere near your precious project files.

    I'm finding it very handy on my particular twin 22" monitor setup to sometimes use a one-screen layout and sometimes a two screen layout. I 'discovered' that having the timeline on the second monitor enables me to tweak edits there while having the playback full size after pressing the "full screen" button on the first monitor. Where the timeline would normally be I have the history, mixer, and other windows always open. As the second monitor is also used by another PC (the one I have the net and email etc on) using "Maxivista" monitor sharing software, I revert to single screen layout when doing stuff like exporting to DVD so I can see what is going on with the render while typing stuff like this.
    Selectable workspaces are dead handy!

  • Apprearance takes an age to appear - why?

    For some reason when I open the Appearance Control Panel, nothing much seems to happen until near enough 30 seconds later (yes I timed it!?) - for some reason it seems only to be the Themes tab that causes the delay. All the other tabs open fine but when I click the Themes tab... 30sec later it opens.
    I'm on a 4400 OS9.1 and 64MB ram, 5 GB HD But in general it seems the computer is slowing down, the machine was quite fast when I first did the install, but I have loaded lots of stuff in the meantime and wonder if I have picked up a virus of some sort. I have rebuilt the desktop too.
    Any ideas?

    How much free space do you have on your hard drive? Do you have lots of files/folders on your desktop?

  • Tabbed Panel - Multiple w/ Rollovers & Different Looks

    Hi again and Happy Monday!
    So in my quest to bring better functionality and spiffiness to my company's intranet site I have yet again found a new and nerve racking problem.
    Here goes:
    Adding in multiple Spry Tabbed Panels.
    If I make them on a new clean page they show up just fine....until you attempt to add in rollover functionality.
    Example: Panel Alpha and Panel Beta
    Panel Alpha has the rollover script "onmouseover="TabbedPanels1.showPanel(this);" in the tabs so that the user doesn't need to click to make the navigation appear.
    Panel Beta does not
    When you rollover a piece in Panel Alpha the entire content block of Panel Beta disappears and the content in Panel Alpha does not show up.
    Code:

    Okay now that the already made build page or template:
    I already have a template built using the Panel Alpha as the main navigation (with the rollover functionality and it works) and Panel Beta needs to be an optional region in the template as not all pages will display it.
    Wouldn't you know it....Beta Panel doesn't work at all on the exisiting template page(have not made it an optional region just an editable while it's being built). I have instered a clean Tabbed Panel spry with it's own id and different CSS rules. All it does is show all the content in a UL and you can't click on it (which is the default behavior and believe me adding the rollover doesn't work either) to show a selected tag nor change the content. It just won't work.
    Existing template page code:<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">

    var TabbedPanels2 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("Left_Table");
    //-->
    </script><!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    </body>
    </html>
    So basically I need this:
    A template page with 2 Tabbed Panels, each in a different spot with it's own look and both panels must work with the rollover functionality to display content.
    Note: No .js file was hurt or tampered with in the pursuit of making this happen.
    Please note I cannot link to a live page as it's on the intranet servers and cannot be made visible to the outside world.
    I work on CS4 and the company will only allow IE 6 or 8 on the machines and really hope that there is a solution to this...I mean I have a plan B but would really like to use the tabbed panel on the side to get rid of using additional tables on the pages (I'm moving the pages away from tabled design and into tableless CSS)
    Also as a premptive question...will the Tabbed Panels conflict with an accordian spry object (which I'll need to add to make a 3rd level navigation and at some point most likely need multiple accordian objects on a page)?
    Okay guys and gals...have at it!
    Thanks and love.

  • Dynamic add component to panel, it does't work

    I want to add a label in a panel when you click button.
    I used revalidate() and revalidate() method, but it didn't appear in panel.
    HELP ME?? WHAT'S WRONG!
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
    jPanel1.add(new JLabel("Hello"));
    jPanel1.revalidate();
    jPanel1.repaint();
    }

    i add Layout manager to panel. It works. Thanks,
    So tricky things for dynamic adding component:
    1, setup layout manager to container (such as panel),
    2, add component to container
    3, call revalidate() method to relayout these components in container
    You can't miss any one of those.
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
    jPanel1.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
    jPanel1.add(new JButton("Hello"));
    jPanel1.revalidate();
    }

  • Workspace Customization in OPBM Enterprise for WLS

    All,
    Has anyone modified the default workspace layout in OBPM on WLS? We have made a couple of small modifications based on the guide, but when these are deployed to the webroot foder in OBPM-HOME, and the engine re-started, the changes do not appear. Rebuidling the Workspace EAR and deploying it also shows hegative results. Any idea how we can invoke these changes?
    TUA,
    IGS

    Hi, you can modifiy directly the deployment in weblogic. In my case I use to apply my changes in the deployment path, in
    / opt/ webserver/ bea/ user_projects/ domains/ bpm_domain/ Fuego-WebLogic-Deployer/ fuego_webapp_expanded/ 08-workspace-xafdids. ear. Then I update and I activate the changes. It works.

  • Selecting a Meeting Workspace in a Sub Site

    Hi all,
    I have created a bunch of Meeting Workspaces in a subsite of my SharePoint site (i.e., http://domain/team/workspace) and I was wondering how to create an Event in a Calendar located on the root site and select one of the meeting workspaces in the subsite.
    At the moment it seems to only allow existing workspace selection within the scope of the current site. Is what I am asking even possible?
    I understand that it may not be possible out of box, but could be achievable with some customization so I am wondering if anyone knows how or can at least point me in a direction with some ideas of how I can get this to work?
    Thanks in advance!
    Patrick

    Hello Alex Brassington
        I had to convert a bmp to jpg so you could see the Meeting Workspace but whats happening is that in this
    Decision Workspace you click "New Item" and give the meeting a name then under "Attendees" you click the
    Checkbox and you enter the name of the people are to appear at the meeting lastly there are there is the Subject
    and if you have any related documents relating to the meeting.
        The problem is that when you want to schedule a subsequent meeting sometime in the future, the same
    names information appears on the meeting Workspace.  So the question how do you save the old information
    regarding the meeting and clear it so that you can enter the information related to the new meeting and the
    people who are going to be attendees to that meeting?
