Avoiding empty-file creation

Hi,
Is there any way to avoid empty file creation on the receiver side? I am using variable-substituton for file naming.

Once I faced a similar issue, a 0kb file though empty file creation "ignore" option was creating empty files.
Try to avoid empty files creation using
1. Receiver determination where you can check for required field, and generate target only if it appears
1. Message mapping by not generating a target structure
Again, it depends on your requirement on when these empty messages are getting created...
Can you tell us, on what cases is this empty file is getting created?

I am doing a scenario, which creates an empty file(when some mapping condition doesnt satisfy).
I dont want to write this empty file in the target directory.
This can be handled if a file adapter is used, but I am using a SOAP AXIS adapter, so I dont know how to handle this here.
I alaso tried using the StrictXml2PlainBean to avoid the creation, it creates 0 documents and a 0kb empty file.
Can anyone please let me know how this can be solved????
Also if some one has done this empty file handling in J2SE file adapter...can you tell how it was done.

Hi Gabriel,
You can write a simple script to copy a file from source folder to target in case the fiel size is ZERO bytes. The script will not copy the file if the filesize is more than zero bytes, This will be processed normally by PI server. You can call the script from sender communication channel parameter : "RUN OS command before message processing". Could you please specify the Operating System (OS) you are using in your PI server.

Empty file in sender comm channel

i have issue with the empty files coming from the sender which are getting processed and getting saved in given file location.
Now the problem is,these files donot contain data and rather just gets outputted with header and trailer with some dummy data usually spaces,some zeros,-- like this...,this makes the file size of some 444 bytes or 834 bytes but as it is not having any data,we need to goto SXMB_MONI everyday,check for files,if its empty,needs to cancel them manually because it appears in red flag.
To avoid this,i was thinking of setting the empty file option in processing of communication channel to SKIp messages or delete messages.
Am i right in this approach?
From other thread:

Hi,
As per ur req, its nt possible in this way.
The empty file handling means the whole file is empty, the size is 0k.
So in ur req, empty file means Header and Trailer present, but no data Records.
we can achive this in following ways also,
1.write an adapter module, to check if at all there is atleast there is 1 Data record, if not throw exception there itself.
2.In the mapping check if at all there is any Data Record. If no Data Records raise exception and also the Alerts.

Empty file picked although file have lot of data in file adapter SAP PI

Hello All,
We are facing the weired behaviour of SAP PI file adapter channel.
In without mapping Scenario of 7.31
At some time whole file is archived properly in archive folder but in SAP PI log we can see the file size 0 bytes.
And at received side empty file will be sent.
But in actual there is lot of data in the file.
The same file triggered next time then it working fine.archived and sent as it is.
So can anybody help me for this ?what is the issue why sometime file with no data is picked by PI?
If file is pick up by PI before it is written completely by third party then is it possible that archived file will have all data as it although processed empty ?

I know this is common issue of file picking before completing the process of file writting and also i can use Msec to wait before modification check for avoiding this but
my question is how the archived folder have the file with all data that sender is sending.
So is it possible that empty file (before compete writting )is picked up by sap pi and then after completing the picking process it will archive the file that is completely written by third party in source folder.
In other way file picking & File archiving is separate process means file that is picked is not archived but once pi processed the file then it will again check the source folder and archive and delete the same file.

Empty files are getting created at receiver FTP server

Hi Experts,
I have an Idoc to File scenario where I am sending an XML file to receiver FTP server.
Scenario is working fine but sometimes an empty file is getting generated at receiver FTP server.
I have already selected ignore empty file at receiver channel so issue is not within PI system configuration.
When I checked the message log I can see that almost all the files are getting created successfully without any issues, but
for some files/messages I can see that there are below error logs.
"Transmitting the message to endpoint <local> using connection IDoc_AAE_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System failed, due to: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections"
"Exception caught by adapter framework: Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections."
And after there is again success message log in the same message and it creating a file successfully during that time stamp.
but the third party is sometime receiving empty file which I am not able to find in any trace or log (my file name is SD_timestamp.xml).
Can you please let me know what is the solution and what adjustments FTP server need to do in order to resolve this issue.

The error you are getting that says "Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections" has probably nothing to do with the empty files problem.
I second Hareesh Gampa that you first should try "temporary file creation". You might also need to tell the FTP owner that he should only pick up files with that are written completely and that do comply with a negotiated file name schema. The temp file should have another schema of course then. He should not pick up just every file that is written. See here for details

How to avoid output file and error lines when condition does not match

A customer want to send purchase order files to several vendors and each vendor has their own requirement to content and file format. I have prepared scenarios for each vendor and a template is (conditionally) called when CardCode matches. It works fine, - PO file is generated when CardCode matches, but error lines are written to SAP B1 Control Center each time CardCode does not match the one defined in a scenario (100 or more times per day). Problem is that these error lines does not get automatic deleted. Conditional processing are made in this way:

Then no error lines are written to SAP B1 Control Center, but an output file is generated each time (order file when CardCode matches and an empty file when CardCode does not match).
Any suggestions on how to avoid both errors types (error lines in SAP B1 Control Center and empty output files)?
Or - can lines in SAP B1 Control Center be automatic deleted?

Hi Steen,
using <b1im_skip> should be the right approach, if you're working with B1 OUTBOUND.
Following extract form the B1i help describes the usage to skip the outbound processing:
1.1 Skipping Outbound Processing
If you do not want to hand over the message to the receiver system, the scenario step can create a special tag that indicates to generic processing in the integration framework to skip the message processing.
Add the following to the final transformation atom (atom0):

If the integration framework skips the message, it puts the message log information to the Filtered section, if the message log is switched on. The result message contains the Message skipped by vBIU logic information.

Hi Enivaas,
I don't have the seeburger sftp adapter at hand at the moment, but asfar as I remember, this does not specifically have an empty-file handling option like the standard ftp adapter.
So to stop emtyp files from being written, guess would need to handle this at the mapping level. For example, check for target creation criteria in the header node in mapping. If the creation criteria is not met, you can throw an error in mapping.
You may also incorporate this condition in your Receiver determination. In this case, if the condition is not satisfied, no receiver is determined in PI.

XI can not process empty files

Hi All,
We have some problems as SAP is sending empty files.
are there any way to avoid this kind of files?
Actually an error happens when an empty file is sended. Xi is not able to process it and this empty files blocks the correct execution of the following files.

We had an error this morning. This is the log:
2007-04-12 08:00:00 UTC: Error: File 'Diageo_Multisite_col.dat': Archiving to file'/data/backup/20070412-080000-296_Diageo_Multisite_col.dat' on FTP Server after processing failed: FTPEx: Transfer complete.
The file Diageo_Multisite_col.dat is Zero bytes.
It is not important as this file will be overwrited tomorrow and the interface will be executed.
But in other interfaces that take a lot of files, if one is empty XI does not process any of them and does not provide any log. Until Zero bytes files will be deleted XI will not process files.

Thunderbird sending pdf attachment problem – 'empty file' from mac to mac & PC

OSX 10.9.5 with TB 31.6
This problem has just started happening when sending PDFs to clients at different location who are using a mixture of email systems on Mac and PCs (different PDFs over the last week to differetent people but not everyone). The file arrives but it says 'empty file'. I have tried sending the same PDF though gmail and that arrives with no problem.
I can see this is a reoccuring problem with older TB releases but there doesn't seem to be a solution.
Can anyone help?

Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.

How to avoid partial files via FTP from XI to an external server?

Hi all,
I'm working in an interface where XI sends a big file (greater than 1MB) via FTP to the client. The client needs an empty file to be created once the file has been fully sent from XI, with format .ok, so that their server can trigger their interface to process the file.
They want this procedure to ensure no partial files are processed.
Could someone please help me out on how to do this in XI.

Use this parameter to define a length of time (default value: 0) for the file/FTP adapter to wait after the file has been read to see if the file length changes. If this is the case, the system repeats the read procedure. This is useful if the files to be imported by the adapter are generated dynamically without being locked on the operating system level (for example, files received from FTP servers). Without this workaround, the file/FTP adapter cannot recognize whether the generation of the file is complete in such applications with operating system functions.

Hi,
Sorry, my mistake, I did not pay attention to the cloning part.
For this error, looks like the database was not cleanly shutdown before copying the files or that preclone was not run successfully. You will have to run preclone again, and shutdown the database normally, then copy the file again.

I've a problem when trying to upload any file to KM Repository (Content Administrator-KM Content-Root-documents). It shows the following error: File does not exist, or file is empty; you cannot upload empty files.
I have applied SAP note 898637 but is still not working. We're using SAP EP 7.0 SP11.
Please, what could be the problem?

We've put the Java paremeters in Configtool.bat :
-Djava.io.tmpdir=c:/EP_TEMP
-Dcm.tmpdir=c:/EP_TEMP
In Server/Instance. Folders: Message Server&BootStrap and in Servers General and in Instances/Server.
