Blank frame

Hello,
I was tryping to develop program for Smart Camera NI 1774, using a part of program Grab (177x Smart....) and adding after retrieving an image operations like IMAQ Threshold, IMAQ Centroid and adding the Coordinate System to image (see attachment). Program suppose to find dark object on the white screen and give information about actual position.
The problem is that after IMAQ Threshold and so on, indicators Show Image are blank. Sometimes an image appears in one indicator for a fraction of a second and after is still blank. Removing IMAQ Threshold and other helps and the image is normal (but it is not my goal ).
I don`t know what I am doing wrong. I`m pretty sure it is a little thing, obvious for anyone, but I don`t really know what it is.
The FPS indictaor works ok, and the part od Threshold and Centroid works ok (I think because values are changing, but I don`t see anything)
Solved!

Hi,
What are you calling a blank image? Is it a black image? If so, just check your image control is in binary display mode. You will then have red and black images.
I guess this is the problem, but I couldn't open your VI as I'm using LV 2010.
In fact, when you threshold an image, you just have 0 and 1 value pixels, and you cannot see this dynamic with your eyes. That's why binary mapping exist, to have a better dynamic and contrast.
Hope this helps

  • Remove blank frame in swf file?

    Hi. I made a simple swf file in flash lite 1.1 with clock. But when i open it after publishing, it has that ''blank frame'', which is refreshing constantly and flikrers between my image and white background. Does anyone know how to remove it, and/or how to insert my image into the stage without being that blank frame visible? I use macromedia flash 8... In case someone wants to look at it, heres the code i used to create the clock, and my swf:

    Ok, i'll try to explain. When you open Macromedia Flash, it automatically creates white stage/document. But i dont need it, so i import my own image to the stage, then i make that clock and publish swf file. Then when i open swf it blinks between white frame and my image. So im pretty sure this white frame is that white stage, created at the beginning. I just dont know how to get rid of that whit stage before i open my image, or maybe i just import my image in the wrong way, i dont know. And, no, it doesnt affect the clock, its working fine, except that it never shows the right font (if i create clock with lets say Verdana, when i open swf its always Arial). About code, i found tutorial by google, that tutorial gives me that code. I have no idea how its made and whats wrong with it, im just a beginner and trying to learn all that stuff. I attached swf in my first post. Thank You.

  • New issue with blank frame at end of coverted .avi

    Here is the project (scenario details):
    I have 2 .swf files. Both are 30 fps. Call them "chapter1" and "chapter2". Frame count is 3600 and 9600 respectfully. The last frame of "chapter1" contains the same image as the first frame of "chapter2" - basically I'm splitting up an overall animation so I can easier manage two Flash documents versus one large document. I used SoThink SWF Converter to create 2 .avi files. When I place these .avi files back to back on the same timeline in Encore, both .avi files have an extra blank frame at the end. This causes a black frame flicker between the end of "chapter1" and the beginning of "chapter2". Even if I drag the end of the .avi on the timeline to the left (as to trim the video track), I still see a black, empty frame at the end. I don't think the problem is with SoThink because I've even imported these .avi files into Sony Vegas and zoomed in all the way to the end of each video track and the very last frame of both files is as it should be. This leads me to believe the issue is with Encore somewhere. Also, initially the problem in Encore was the audio tracks were extending a few frames beyond the video track thus causing the back to back .avi files to align according to the audio track (which was leaving a few blank frames from the video track). I have included some screen shots of the last 3 frames of "chapter1" and the first frame of "chapter2". Hopefully the images below appear in progression as I attached them. Watch the timeline indicator. One frame before the end of "chapter1" is black. I've run out of troubleshooting ideas. I can't imagine this would have anything to do with the .swf being 30 fps and the Encore timeline being DV NTSC 29.97 fps.

    Stan - thanks for the reply...
    I don't recall what was covered when you posted the similar question earlier:
    Not much more than me explaining the flicker between 2 .avi files, and the only response was someone telling me to just have one .swf file. I'm not sure why some people's response is to "just do it a different way" instead of trying to figure out what is causing the issue.
    What does mediainfo or gspot show about the avis?
    I'm not sure which information you need, but I will attach what I was able to get out of the problematic .avi. Let me know if you need different information. This was the first time I used MediaInfo.
    Without knowing what to look for, I did notice a couple of lines that caught my eye. Line 25 mentions 30 fps frame rate (which I imagine is this .avi). Line 26 mentions 25 fps as the original fps (which makes me wonder if SoThink misread the .swf file as 25 fps instead of 30 fps) - not sure if I'm reading this right. Also, lines 45 & 52 mention a 26ms delay in audio (relative to video). Could that be why the audio track in Encore extends a couple of frames beyond the video track? Either way, Vegas is STILL showing the last frame as filled with the image. What does this report tell you? Maybe I should find a different way to export .swf to video. Is there anything else out there I might try (to see if the problem is SoThink)? Just looked at the .avi in PremierePro. The last frame looks fine. SoThink won't let me convert .avi to 29.97 fps.
    Could the fact I have a 30 fps .avi placed into a 29.97 fps project timeline, could this be the issue? I tested another .avi (from a movie), and the last frame appears correctly in Encore. Now this looks as if the issue is back to SoThink's conversion to 30 fps. I really should find a different .swf to video converter and retest. Again, thanks for any help (from anyone) in this and suggesting alternative video converters.
    *added - the .swf files contain tweened and frame by frame animation along with a streamed audio layer, but even when I completely remove the audio layer, the resulting .avi still shows up as a blank frame at the end. I thought at one point the fact I had a streaming layer of audio might have been forcing the frames in Flash to skip around, but this wasn't the case.

  • Why do I often get blank frames while acquiring images using external trigger under Windows 7?

    I'm using Windows 7, the latest LabVIEW and IMAQdx right now. The program was developed based on the example provided by LabVIEW. Everything ran well on Windows XP using internal trigger or external trigger. But when I wanted to run the program on a desktop with Win 7, I just cannot get the images continuously using the external trigger. Although I can get the images, the blank frames showed up very often. When I chose the internal trigger, there was no problem.
    Once I thought there might be something wrong with my program. But I tried the LabVIEW example to select the internal trigger mode and external trigger mode, it had the same problem.
    Is there anyone could give me some suggestions to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Matt,
    The images are either "all blank" or "all good".
    The hardware setup is exactly the same.
    The blank images are not acquired periodically.
    Similar results were also seen when using MAX to control the camera.
    We found a solution to this problem. But we don't know how to explain it. When we were using the 5-Hz external trigger, we thought the video mode would not affect the image acquisition and therefore we left the video mode option as default (15 fps). But when we change the video mode to 7.5 fps or 30 fps, the problem disappeared. So now if we want to get rid of the blank frames while using the external trigger, we just need to choose the video mode other than 15 fps. Interestingly, when we switch back to the XP system, the camera also acquried inconsistent blank frames if we set the video mode at 15 fps.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Transition blank frame issues

    I just (today) upgraded to FCPX. I've been working on a wedding video (my own, to be precise) and I am basically enjoying it (thr program, and the video).
    BUT!
    I have added Several transitions during the movie, but there is one edit that has a Cross Dissolve transition, and I realized, after buring it to a DVD, that there is a single blank frame at the end of the effect (the cursor is sitting on the right edge of the grey box for the effect). I went back and stepped through the transition in question, and it is there. If I delete the transition, I can step through all the frames, and there are no blank frames. So I put in several different kinds of transitions, and they all do it.
    I also noticed when stepping through the effect, that the single frame is actually dark green (it puts a single green dot in the vectorscope).
    Has anyone experienced this, and is there a work  around? I need a transition here, bcause it would be a jarring transition without it (picture empty courtyard hard cut to courtyard with people, from a different angle.

    Have occasionally had a similar problem. Finally found a single "ghost" frame hiding between the two clips I was trying to transition. Difficult to see - you have to zoom way, way in. Don't know where the "ghost" frame came from or how it got there but deleting it solves the problem.

  • Blank Frame After Switching to Java 6

    I've been behind the times for quite a while, and I only just today switched from Java 5 to Java 6 (the latest revision). I have a couple little GUI programs I use occasionally for things. Nothing fancy. They just stick some text fields and buttons on the screen and spit out results into another text field. I haven't had any problems with them in the past.
    Now that I install Java 6, though, when the JFrame pops up, all I see is a big gray area on it. All the components are located directly on the JFrame's content pane, and they're layed out using SpringLayout. I've printed out the some sizes and locations, and they're all what they're supposed to be. The components are indeed visible. The JFrame is the right size (as opposed to a tiny title bar with nothing underneath when you forget to set the layout or something). The content pane's layout is the SpringLayout it's supposed to be. Any ideas on what's causing this or how to fix it?

    Sorry for the double post, but I don't see an edit field up on the first post.
    I should clarify. I actually have a few JPanels on the content pane, and the JPanels do have some components on them. Every single component has a non-zero size and is set to visible. Furthermore, everything is a lightweight component. Does anyone know what issues might be causing this?
    EDIT_:
    I have come up with a sample that reproduces my bug. (Yeesh. That was a pain.)
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class FrameTesting
         public static void main(String[] args)
              JFrame frame = new JFrame("Testing for blank");
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              Container cp = frame.getContentPane();
              JPanel row1 = buildRow(new JLabel("Test Label:"), new JTextField(8), new JButton("Test Button"));
              cp.add(row);
              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible(true);
         private static Spring ZERO = Spring.constant(0);
         private static Spring FIVE = Spring.constant(5);
         private static JPanel buildRow(Component... components)
              JPanel row = new JPanel();
              SpringLayout layout = new SpringLayout();
              row.setLayout(layout);
              SpringLayout.Constraints cons;
              Spring nextX = ZERO;
              Spring east = ZERO; //Initialize so correct if components.length == 0
              Spring rowHeight = ZERO;
              for (Component c: components)
                   row.add(c);
                   cons = layout.getConstraints(c);
                   cons.setX(nextX);
                   cons.setY(ZERO);
                   east = Spring.sum(cons.getX(), cons.getWidth());
                   nextX = Spring.sum(east, FIVE); // The FIVE acts as a spacer.
                   rowHeight = Spring.max(rowHeight, cons.getHeight());
              cons = layout.getConstraints(row);
              cons.setWidth(east); //east is the east of the last Component
              cons.setHeight(rowHeight);
              return row;
    }If you'd like to convince yourself that the components actually have the correct sizes and positions, insert these two methods (and see below them)
         private static void printVisibility(Component c)
              printVisibility(c, "");
         private static void printVisibility(Component c, String indent)
              System.out.println(indent + c.getBounds() + " Visible: " + c.isVisible());
              if (c instanceof Container && ((Container)c).getComponentCount() > 0)
                   String nextIndent = indent + "   ";
                   for (Component c1: ((Container)c).getComponents())
                        printVisibility(c1, nextIndent);
         }...and insert this call at the end_ of the main method (after the pack()).
    printVisibility(cp);Based on what I've been doing trying to track down the bug, it looks like it's in the buildRow(Component...) method. Perhaps something has changed with SpringLayout?

    Fixed a stupid typo in the code, but it didn't fix the problem at hand.
    Edited by: Legend_Keeper on Oct 8, 2008 3:19 AM
    Okay, so now it looks like it might be a problem where the children are off of the JPanel's drawing area (in other words, outside its bounding box) This is the output from printVisibility:
    java.awt.Rectangle[x=0,y=0,width=263,height=26] Visible: true
       java.awt.Rectangle[x=0,y=0,width=263,height=26] Visible: true
          java.awt.Rectangle[x=26,y=26,width=62,height=26] Visible: true
          java.awt.Rectangle[x=67,y=26,width=92,height=26] Visible: true
          java.awt.Rectangle[x=164,y=26,width=99,height=26] Visible: trueAs you can see, the height of the panel (first indentation) is only 26, but for some reason the y positions of its children are 26. This is particularly strange since you can see I explicitly set the y Spring in the Constraints object to be 0. o_O Any help would be appreciated.

  • Time Reversed Layers Have Blank Frames in CC

    Hey guys.  So in my project file I have a lot of looping footage, which I achieved by using time reversed layers.  I started the project file in a trial version of CS5.5 last week, but upgraded to Creative Cloud yesterday.  Since moving to CC I noticed that all my time reversed layers have missing frames at the beginning of the layer, causing a blinking effect on my footage.  In the final comps those layers will flicker out, showing the images and backgrounds beneath them both within AE and in the final comps when I render them to an .mov.  I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this bug and knows of a way to fix it.  I've nudged my layers around a bit, but regardless of when the layer starts or from which point it begins sampling my footage, the first frame of the time reversed layers are blank.
    Here's some information that might be helpful:
    The compositions are 1280x720, square pixel aspect ratio. Starting timecode of 0:00:00:00 on all comps. The footage type is h.264 with a framerate of 23.976, the same framerate as the comps. My footage interpretation is premultiplied for Alpha, set to use the framerate from file, starting timecode of 0:00:00:00, and with seperate fields off and remove pulldown off.
    The specific version of After Effects CC is 12.0.0.404. My computer information is Mac OSX version 10.8.3. 3.,4 GHz Intel Core i7. 16 GB RAM, 1600 MHz DDR3.
    Thanks in adcvance guys.  I could really use some insight in answering my question.

    Yeah.  We're hoping to move everything to a better video format once we get a better network that can handle that quickly, so for now we're using h.264.  In case you're wondering, the same problem happens with other video formats too.  Creating a new composition and time reversing it gives me the same problem.  Here's a screenshot like you asked for:
    My timeline's zoomed in as far as it goes.  Even though my cursor's at the intersection of the two layers, the time reversed layer, which is a pair of eyes above the mouth, shows up blank and there's no eyes.  Any thoughts?

  • What is the blank  frame with broken  photo mean ?

    After I edited a picture in Photoshop Elements 9 I  then  put it into an e mail attachment. I was then switched to the organizer that had a blank spot with a broken photo . I could not get any explanation. I also was told that i had the wrong format to email. Does this mean I can't email an edited photo ? What does the broken frame mean ?

    Thank you Jim. I do have one more question with regards to your advice:
    I am putting the new firmware on my GH2 today, so I will be able to capture 1080/30p as opposed to only 1080/60i to edit in the 30p timeline. Is there a reason you would prefer 60i over true 30p at the same res? I've had problems with interlacing in the past never quite going away and getting funky when doing slow motion and other effects.

  • Unwanted blank frame

    My code worked the last time I checked it a couple days ago. Then I went to run it again, and all it gave me as a blank gray screen in a window. I'm going to be starting from scratch/commenting out and seeing when it stops working, but if anybody has a better idea, I'd be glad to hear it. It's due tomorrow, darnit.

    Oops. I think I added that when I was looking over the code to print. Turns out the other codes didn't work because I forgot to change the constructor name in a couple of places.
    MANY MANY THANKS!!!!
    I guess I am a little shaky on this GUI stuff where the constructor does not build an object but contributes to the interface....and the instance variables aren't part of the object but things you want to be easily accessed...I think.

  • Blank frame on windows!

    Hi,
    I have a java program creating a very nice jframe, it seems to work perfectly on Linux but when running it on windows sometimes the frame is blank - and then if I try to open one of the menus (on blind - just by clicking on some place) then I start getting the frame bit by bit (when getting the pop-up menu the part of the frame that is behind it is now viewed and then I can move the pop-up menu or some split-bar that is now viewed and get the other parts of the frame!!)
    I hope I managed to describe the case clearly. It would be hard to post the code since its really large... I am just hoping that someone already have faced a similar problem and managed to solve it.
    Thanks
    Eman

    As has been suggested before, if you want help, you need to show code. We don't want to see all of it, but rather you should condense your code into the smallest bit that still compiles, has no extra code that's not relevant to your problem, but still demonstrates your problem, in other words, an SSCCE (Short, Self Contained, Correct (Compilable), Example). For more info on SSCCEs please look here:

    Quick question: are you creating your JFrame in the EDT by calling it like so...
    SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable()
        public void run()
            // .. start your jframe here

  • Iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  When I deleted some, I found that the event still shows up with a blank frame.  Can I move some photos to an external hard drive but leave the pointer in iphoto?

    iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  I would really like to move tsome of the older photos to an external hard drive. (They are backed up in Time Machine, but I like the immediacy of having them available.)  So question 1 -  is it possible to split the iphoto library so that the directory tree points to an external drive in some cases?  And if that doesn't work--I am willing to export and delete some of these photos.  However, an earlier delete left me with events that have a name in the event folder, but no photos.  Question 2 -- How do I properly delete photos so that all references disappear?
    example:

    Warning: Time Machine is not an Archiving application. It keeps rolling back ups. That means if you delete something from the source Mac it will eventually be also deleted from Time Machine. How long that takes depends on the amount of disk space TM has. So, remember, backing up in Time Machine is not the same as Archiving.
    For the blank thumbnails: This can happen if you try delete too many photos at one go. Experienced users suggest you should delete in batches of 100 or so.
    Yes you can split the Library, where some of the Masters are stored locally and some on an external disk, but really, you don't want to do that. iPhoto's file management tools are limited at best, and if the path to the files changes then you could find yourself repairing the links to the files - all of them, one by one.
    Better: Have your entire Library on an External Drive.
    Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    If you want to have a smaller library on your internal disk:
    Here's one way to do what you want:
    Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
    Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
    As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
    You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
    You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • Win 7 Pro updates to Internet Explorer 11 every web page has blank frames and radio buttons. Updates show only IE11.

    This entry frame on your page has radio buttons, giving me some editing functions - Bold, Italic, Underline, Insert unordered List, Insert Ordered List, Insert Hyperlink, Remove Hyperlink, Insert HTML, etc... but
    I cannot see them.  Ever since updating Internet Explorer to ver 11, there is no going back to IE8.  Your Tech forum monitors keep rehashing the same links that do not answer this snafu.  Your Monitors suggest that the web sites are not running
    because they are not compatible with the newer versions of Internet Explorer - well, even Microsoft's websites?  When you create a new web interface, why would your coding team make it incompatible with your own company's sites?
    The Monitors suggest our cards can't handle GPU and we should turn to software rendering.  My card is a GeForce GTX 50 TI and has, according to the manufacturer web site: "Microsoft®  DirectX® 11 Support
    DirectX 11 GPU with  Shader Model 5.0 support designed for ultra high performance in the new API’s  key graphics feature, GPU-accelerated tessellation."
    I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE and Microsoft must realize no customer wants to have the technical side string them along with pointless and futile misdirection to a garble of automatic chat responses that offer incomplete and unrelated fixes
    and then expect to gain points in the voting buttons that "this fixed my problem".
    Microsoft: you are ignoring compatibility problems with your coding and pretending it is arises from hardware incompatibility or user stupidity.  Your code should be running seamlessly, should accommodate existing technologies, and be flexible enough
    to accept limitations of older hardware, older websites, and your monitors should march into Microsoft's development offices and demand answers ---- and fixes.  Has Microsoft gone into hiding when the latest technology show-piece isn't working for the
    rest of the world?  We do not exist in a research bubble.  We are here in the real world, with aging equipment and tight budgets, and we expect better from Microsoft.

    Hi ohernova,
    Sorry for the annoying issue you encountered and our develop team are trying our best to improve the performance of MS products, As I know, IE 11 was published after many technical tests, thus I suspect that it might be an individual case. I used to run
    IE 11 in my win7, and it works perfectly,
    Here’re some test you may take into consideration:
    Make sure that you’ve installed all latest updates.
    Since your Monitors keeps suggesting that the web sites are not running because it’s a compatibility issue, I suggest you add one site to the compatibility view list for a test, (if you can find the settings in Tools>Compatibility view settings)
    Or click Win+F12, launch the F12 developer tool, click the last option, change the user agent string and document string to “10”, check whether the page can revert to normal.
    Regards

  • When exporting a .wmv in After Effects 5 the export adds additional black/Blank frames at the end

    We are experiencing an issue where we or a client provides us with a video that is a .wmv video, exported from After Effects 5 and it adds almost a second of data less video.
    What I mean by data less is the video renders out as WMV, 30FPS, 24 Bitrates (No audio) that is say 7 seconds long within After Effects. The moment it is rendered/exported, it is 8 seconds and shows 8 seconds in any program we import it to. That last second is empty, there is no frames, not even black frames, and when you preview the video in any program, you see the scrub bar, drop about 1 second before the actual end of the timeline.
    I opened the video in Camtasia, and you can clearly see that at the end, it shows in the timeline (Video Editor), however there is no actual video.
    I import the video in my company’s software, and I move the frame scrubber at the end, it says 'Unable to retrieve the requested video frame.'. If we import it to our software, it sees no frames for that second, and automatically loops and adds the first second of the video to the end.
    Typically we only import uncompressed AVIs, but would like to know what this issue is.
    Windows 7 Enterprise
    64bit OS
    After Effects 5

    I 100% agree about not being a fan of .WMV. We only recently added .wmv video support to our own program our clients use for importing videos and graphics. Our customer only used .wmv because it was on our list, and we are running into this issue.
    Two different users (our own Graphic Artist, and our clients Graphic Artist) and we get the same result. We are 100% certain there is no video framerate mismatch in either of the AE files.
    It would be interesting to see if anyone else using AE, if they could make a video few seconds long, export as a WMV and see if another program shows a whole extra second at the end, that has no data.
    Thanks for your responses thus far.

  • How can I get my FRAMESET page, which loads blank frames in Firefox 22.0 but works in IE7, to work in Firefox?

    This is my current page, which works in IE 7:
    < HTML>< HEAD>< TITLE>My Calendar of Events< /TITLE><br>
    < base href="C:\Calendar\2013\"></HEAD ><br>
    < FRAMESET BORDER=5 ROWS="60, *" ><br>
    < FRAME NAME="navigate" SRC="navigate.html" SCROLLING="NO" MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 NORESIZE ><br>
    < FRAME NAME="content" SRC="load.html" SCROLLING="AUTO" MARGINWIDTH=5 MARGINHEIGHT=0>
    < /FRAMESET >< /HTML><br>
    I later added the followinging lines, the 2nd in the <head> section (to no avail):
    < !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd" >
    < meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" >
    The frames seem to load in Firefox 22.0, as I can see the border, but no content is displayed. I CAN get the content to display in Firefox if I open the frames manually, either by typing in the addresses or dropping the pages into a window so it 'must' be the FRAMESET page. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    EDIT:
    I forgot to "break" the html code, so it didn't show in the question. Found the Edit option, repaired questin.

  • Swing blank frame

    This Card method returns the image of a card as an ImageIcon in a JLabel, or just the filename attempted for use of the filename if no image is found. The cards show up great when I launch from the IDE, but when I package it into a JAR file, the filenames point to the right place but nothing shows up in the middle of the JFrame, just a JMenuBar and the frame itself. Have I forgotten to set something visible or am I getting images in a wrong way?
    public JLabel getCardImage(boolean selected, boolean highlighted, int width)
            try
                //BufferedImage im = null;
                URL imURL = null;
                if (!selected && !highlighted)
                    imURL = Card.class.getResource("cards/"+this.fn());
                if (selected)
                    imURL = Card.class.getResource("cards-sel/"+this.fn());
                Icon icon = new ImageIcon(imURL);
                if (width < 71)
                    ((ImageIcon)icon).setImage(((ImageIcon)icon).getImage().getScaledInstance(width, 70, Image.SCALE_SMOOTH));
                return new JLabel(icon);
            catch (Exception e) { return new JLabel(this.fn()); }
        }

    First of all I would suggest instead of eating that exception I would print the stacktrace, since I'm sure you probably getting an exception and you don't know it since you just create a label anyway.
    Second, you should just catch an generic Exception this is not good practice, since you will catch exceptions(NPers) that are really bugs in your applications.
