Change multiple Reel names

Is it possible to change multiple reel names at the same time, instead of having to copy/paste each one individually? I'm on FCP 6

I don't remember if this is the same in FCP 6, but it seems like I've been doing this for years -
Select one clip that you want to assign a new reel number to:
and give it a reel number:
then select the rest of your clips by Shift Clicking on each one, or drag across the group. then Control Click in the Reel name column and the name you previously assigned will appear as an option to select.
Select it:
And that reel will be assigned to the other clips that were selected:

  • Change multiple files name at once

    Hi
I would like to know if someone knows how to change multiple files name in mac. I need to name hundreds of files name, and dont want to do it one by one ... Example: Change from: Doc 1, Doc 2, Doc3 ...to: 2010Summer1; 2010Summer2,etc...
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Joao

Make an Automator workflow that changes the name. You would Replace text of "Doc" with "2010Summer". When you open Automator, choose Workflow. Drag in a Get Selected Finder Items and then drag in a Rename Finder Items. Select the "Replace Text" option. Fill in the Details, select the files in the Finder, and then run the workflow.
There are also some third-party file renamers. Check MacUpdate or VersionTracker. I don't know if there are any free ones.

  • Changing the Reel Name after capture

It appears that you can change a clip's assigned Reel Name by editing the clip's Reel attribute in the FCE browser. (If you change the Reel attribute value, you get a warning that it will modify the file on disk.)
Is there any other way (or utility) to view or edit a clip's assigned Reel name other than via the FCE Browser? I have not found any way to do it in QT Player, QT Pro, GetInfo or any other means.

Not that I know of. Maybe CatDV or something like that.

  • Change multiple employees names

    Hello,
We ran into a problem when creating some BPs out of Users, which caused some of the BPs to be created without "First Name" and "Last Name". In the same scenario we have connected all of the BPs to CPs and added them to the organisational tree.
Most of the created employees already started working and opened orders for customers.
We cannot delete and reopen the employee BPs because they are already connected to orders in BUT050, and changes through BOL are not allowed because all of the data is read only.
My question is, is there any way to massively change Employees names or is there any API function that can be used for one by one change?
    Will appreciate any help,
    Thanks.

    Hi Yuri,
You can also use transaction MASS, to do some mass changes in employees.
The business object for that is BUS1006.
    Kind regards,

  • How do i change multiple file names to the same name w/ a number value?

I use Windows machines and Macs at my office.  In Windows I can take a group of files, let's say JPG's of a factory tour, and when I upload them into Windows, I can "select all", right click and chose "rename".  I rename the first file "102511 Widget Tour (1)" and press "enter" Windows automatically renames all the JPG's to "102511 Widget Tour" and progresses the number in the parentheses.  In OS X there is not even a "rename" function when multiple items are selected.  I've looked at using Automater, but it seems that I would have to construction a new action each time.  Any ideas?

If you have Aperture it can do it for you.

I suggest a third part app: Renamer

    Hey man, no problem.
There are several sites you can look at that will give you a good idea on how to use Automator, such as:
    Mac 101: Automator
    Automatedworkflows.com tips and videos
(This is the site where I learned everything really, and this site also provides 3rd party actions that have greately helped me with better workflows)

  • Changing Reel Name

    Hi,
I'm creating a video archive with the footage we've recently acquired, and have a question about changing the reel name in the logging info window. I want to change the reel name to correspond to the new tape label numbers I've created for the archive, but when I try to change the reel name FCP tells me that this will change the timecode info and the file itself. Is it best to not mess with the reel name and instead mark my tape numbers in another field like comments?
    Thanks,
    matt

well originally I hadn't labeled the tapes in FCP while capturing at all because the tapes themselves weren't physically labeled. I decided to go back and label and organize them and now have to go back and update the info in FCP. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't messing with the media at all by changing the reel names.
    Thanks,
    matt

  • EDL Problems with reel name

I just finish a 88 minutes documentary and need the edl of my final movie for the online. It seems I gave too long names to the reels from the begining (Ero Cam1 Tape65). I have more than 100 reels! What should I do? Should I consolidate the project (only the final movie) and then change the reel names nad then export the EDL? The online in next monday and I want to do a test here in my computer before going there.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jorge

I'd change them all manually myself. In the main project. Ensure you got them all. Editing is a time consuming process.
Remember to stick to the 6 character limit. So, for example, the tape you listed can be EC1065. When you change the tape name in FCP, mark the tape with the same name. I typically use paper tape on the spine of the case....EC1 on top and 065 right below it.

  • Using log and transfer,  how do I change the source reel name?

I am importing/transfering native camera footage from folders on a disk that have the same card numbers, FCP is assigning the card number as the source reel.  Is it a problem if there are 2 source reels named the same?  ie card 1?
If so how do I change the name of the reel for  footage already transferred and how do I assign a new reel name before transfer?
    Thanks!

In the FCP Browser, switch to list view, then scroll the browser to see the Reel Column. You can enter the reel number there by clicking where the reel number would be and entering it. After you have done one, copy that reel text, and then  select multiple clips and paste the reel number into them simultaneously.

when editing info, how do i select multiple items to edit a group? For example, changing the artist name on multiple tracks at once?

Same way you select multipl items anywhere else.
Hold ctrl and click the items you want.
If they are in consecutive order, click the 1st then Shift click the last.

  • Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click

Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click and hold shift key and be able to get to it. Anyone figured this out?

The "legacy" metadata editors, for which there was a "back door" in iTunes 12.0, have gone from 12.1.  However, the revised editors in 12.1 provide access to (almost) all the metadata elements that were available in iTunes 11, albeit in a different layout and with some additional constraints based on media kind.  Some users have / will have an issue with the statement that "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item" since that removes some metadata elements that people may have been using in creative ways.  iTunes 12.1 basically gives you access to the fields that Apple think are necessary ... .  Some of the things that have been excluded by this rule:
track and disc number fields for video media kinds
show and episode fields for music
description tab for audiobooks made up of more than one file
Obviously the first two examples can be regarded as "overloading" the metadata elements - i.e., using them in ways that the designers didn't intend - but given that some users do find valid cases for this it's a shame that they've been deprecated in the new UI.  There are couple of workarounds:
in songs view (or any of the other columnar views), you can still select any fields to display, independent of media kind, and these can be edited (though only one at a time) by double-clicking in the relevant "cell"
you can (temporarily) change the media kind of an item (or group of items) to get access to metadata elements that would otherwise be inaccessible.
It may be worth submitting an issue via https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html - I can't see it as a huge development task to have a user preference to switch between "show all fields" and "filter fields based on media kind".
One other oddity/irritation is that some of the tabs don't, by default, show all the available fields - you need to scroll up/down to access them or to expand the window by dragging on one of its corners.  Fortunately, the latter seems to be persistent - once you've done this to make all the fields visible the editor will open at the same (larger) size when opened again.

  • WIll Changing Reel Names Be a problem in recapture

I am the second editor on the project I am editing. The director and the first editor imported all the tapes with wrong reel name (basically there are 100 tapes and they numbered the first 24 1-24, then the second 24 1-24 again). I want to go through all the clips I need and re-name the reel numbers so when I re-capture in high resolution the computer will know which tapes to ask for. My only question is, when I try to rename the reel, I get a message saying that "changing the timecode data will modify the file on disk"- is this going to be a problem?
    Thanks.

That won't be. That is what you want to happen. You want to modify the reel name and you want all of your data to reflect that change. Since the QT captures contain that data, you want it to change. So if you imported that clip into another FCP system...just the clip itself...it contains the timecode and the reel number.

  • Reel name increments   Help!

I am using fcp 5.14. I am capturing betacam sp from a sony deck. When I do a capture now and play the tape, when I am done FCP puts a differnt letter at the end of the tape name. This makes it impossible to batch re-capture a tape. What is wrong? I have it set to start a new clip on a timecode break and each new clip has a differnt taoe name when done.
    thanks for any help
    kevin

FCP is doing this because you are using it to capture over sections of the tape that have timecode breaks. When FCP creates new clips on timecode breaks, it automatcally increments the reel names, in case the timecode starts over.
IF (an important if) if the timecode on the tape is ascending, even if not continuous, meaning that at no point it starts over at zero, such that there are not multiple regions on one tape that could have the same timecode, you can modify the reel names/numbers of the clips in the browser. This does make a permanent change to the QT metadata on any clips that have been captured, but it's a pretty safe change. Once you have done this you'll see only one reel for that tape in the batch capture list. Just make sure you have enough space around the TC breaks to allow for pre-roll and any handles you are adding at capture...

  • I have a problem with mail autofilling info email addresses. Emails sent to me the from looks like this: Holiday in the United States email address . I have no idea what this Holiday in the United States is...How can I fix/change to my name?

I have an irritating problem with mail autofilling info in email addresses. Emails sent to me the from looks like this: Holiday in the United States <my email address>. I have no idea what this Holiday in the United States is or how it got to be there...How can I fix/change to my name?
I fixed the To: autofilling incorrectly by deleting my email address from the Previous Recipients List, but is there a way to stop that from coming up on emails that I receive?

Have you checked your Mac address book? If your email is saved somewhere in your address book with the name "Holidays in the United States" it might be adding the name automatically in Mac Mail.
    Alternatively, try this:
Delete an Email Address from Auto-Complete in Mac OS X Mail
To remove an email address from the auto-complete list in Mac OS X Mail:
Start typing the recipient's address or name in a new message.
Select the desired address from the auto-complete list as if you'd compose an email to them.
Click the small down arrow in the recipient.
Select Remove from Previous Recipients List from the menu.
You can also search for the unwanted address directly in the previous recipients list:
Select Window | Previous Recipients from the menu in Mac OS X Mail.
Highlight the address you want to remove. You can highlight multiple addresses by holding down the Command key.
    Click Remove from List.
