Charset problems using SQLLDR

Hello!
My task is to import data from a Microsoft Access Database into an Oracle Database. I got a Script which creates Flatfiles and Controlfiles with the data from Access. My problem is the characterset. There are some signs (e.g. the typical german quotationmark at the BOTTOM oder the "longer dash" you get from MS Word by using "blank+dash+blank"), which obviously cannot be convertet. So there are "turn-round questionsmarks". So I tried many different char-sets. I tried different nls_charset settings at oracle side and many charset as the parameter of the control files. But none combination let me get the right result. Does anybody know how I can get rid of this consersation desaster?
Best regards, Sascha Meyer

  • Charsets when using SQLLDR

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to load the data using different character sets.. e.g. Western European and East European etc.,
    Can you tellme if there is any parameter for SQLLDR?
    We are using 8i and soon may migrate to 9i env.
    regards
    Sam

    You can try to do it in some parts, just divide in few parts the .dat you will load or for example:
    Load Data
    infile ‘/u01/oracle/empfix.dat’
    append into table scott.emp1
    WHEN (deptno=’10 ‘) <--------------------------------
    (empno POSITION(01:04) INTEGER EXTERNAL,
    name POSITION(06:15) CHAR,
    job POSITION(17:25) CHAR,
    mgr POSITION(27:30) INTEGER EXTERNAL,
    sal POSITION(32:39) DECIMAL EXTERNAL,
    comm POSITION(41:48) DECIMAL EXTERNAL,
    deptno POSITION(50:51) INTEGER EXTERNAL)

  • Charset problems using java applet.

    Im running a java applet where the text is displayed in a JEditorPane.
    When running the applet locally the charset is all fine, but when i push the applet into a webserver the charset is displayed incorrectly.
    Anyone have any thoughts why this can happen?

    Actually this was caused because I signed the jarfiles running on the server. Why does that happen?

    The proble is that in coventional path the commit is on 64 row but if i want the same records of file isn't possible and in direct path sqlldr disable primary key :(

    Do you need to uncomment one of the header() functions? Make sure
    it is called before any text or whitespace is sent.
    Look at the example in PHP 5 Code to Upload and Retrieve an Image (aka BLOB) with Oracle

  • Problem using namespace of XML docs gerenrated by  XMLForm

    Hi community!
    I am facing a problem using namespace within a XSL stylsheet. Let me describe my problem:
    I am using the SAP XMLFormsBuilder within the SAP EnterprisePortal in order to provide a HTML based form for creating and editing specific XML documents. The data in the generated documents is finally presented as HTML using XSL Transformation.
    In the XMLFormsBuilder you define the Schema of the XML document and the HTML GUI of the form. The Schema document looks like below (extract):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <schema targetNamespace="http://www.xmlspy.com/schemas/orgchart"
            xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
            xmlns:xyz="http://www.xmlspy.com/schemas/orgchart" Version="6.3.0">
      <element name="commodity"
               default=""
               minOccurs="1"
               maxOccurs="1"
               ns="p2p"
               xmlns:p2p="http://www.portal.p2p.com">
        <complexType>
          <sequence>
            <element name="administrative_information"
                     default=""
                     minOccurs="1"
                     maxOccurs="1"
                     ns="p2p">
              <complexType>
                <sequence>
                  <element name="creation_date"
                           default=""
                           minOccurs="1"
                           maxOccurs="1"
                           type="date"
                           ns="p2p"/>
    As far as I understand, each element defined in the Schama belongs to the namespace "p2p" and this is exactly what I want.
    The XML document generated by the form looks like below (extract):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="show_card.xsl"?>
    <commodity xmlns:xf="http://www.sapportals.com/wcm/app/xmlforms"
               xmlns:xsi="http//www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
               xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="/etc/xmlforms/P2PCategoryCard_TEST/P2PCategoryCard_TEST-Schema.xml">
      <administrative_information>
        <creation_date>2005-07-04</creation_date>
    Consequently, the file "show_card.xsl" is the responsible XSLT stylesheet, which looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
                    xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
                    xmlns:p2p="http://www.portal.p2p.com">
      <xsl:output method="html"/>
      <xsl:template match="p2p:commodity">
        <html>
        <body>
          <h2>XSLT Test</h2>
          Creation Date: <xsl:value-of select="p2p:administrative_information/p2p:creation_date"/>
        </body>
        </html>
      </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    The problem in the XSLT stylesheet is, that I want to access the XML document elements using their namespace. And this is exactly what does not work for me. On the other hand, if I remove the reference to the namespace:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
                    xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
                    xmlns:p2p="http://www.portal.p2p.com">
      <xsl:output method="html"/>
      <xsl:template match="commodity">
        <html>
        <body>
          <h2>XSLT Test</h2>
          Creation Date: <xsl:value-of select="administrative_information/creation_date"/>
        </body>
        </html>
      </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    the stylesheet works fine, but for some technical reasons, which I don't want to explain here, I have to use the namespace when accessing the XML document elements.
    For technical reasons, I cannot change the format of the Schema document and also cannot change the format of the generated XML document. The only file I can change and control is the XSLT stylsheet.
    My question is now, in the case described above, if there is any way to use the namespace in the sytlesheet when accessing the XML elements?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Adam Kreuschner

    Scroll down in that page and you'll see that the character code 146 -- which would be 92 in hexadecimal -- is in the "unused" area of ISO8859-1. I don't know where you got the idea that it represents some kind of apostrophe-like character but it doesn't.
    Edit: Actually, I do know where you got that idea. You got it from Windows-1252:

  • Using sqlldr to load CLOB data from DB2

    I am stuck trying to resolve this problem. I am migrating data from DB2 to Oracle. I used DB2 export to extract the data specifying lobsinfile clause. This created all the CLOB data in one file. So a typical record has a column with a reference to the CLOB data. "OUTFILE.001.lob.0.2880/". where OUTFILE.001.lob is the name specified in the export command and 0 is the starting position in the file and 2880 is the length of the first CLOB.
    When I try to load this data using sqlldr I'm getting a file not found.
    The control file looks something like this:
    clob_1 FILLER char(100),
    "DETAILS" LOBFILE(clob_1) TERMINATED BY EOF,
    I'm using Oracle 11gR2 and DB2 9.7.5
    Your help is appreciated.

    OK..here are additional details. Some names have changed but the idea is the same. Also the sqlldr is executing in the same directory as the data files and the control file
    Primary data file is VOIPCACHE.dat Secondary datafile (file with lob data) is VOIPCACHE.001.lob
    Control Fileload data

  • Little problem with SQLLDR

    Hi,
    I've got great help here in the past so I thought this would be the right place to try and find the solution to my problem loading data using SQLLDR into an oracle database.
    Basically, upon loading I am using a to_date function. However, the parameters this to_date function must take depends on the data I'm trying to load (there are only two possible date formats I'm trying to load). Is there any way of using two to_date functions inside a conditional statement (if statement etc.).
    Thanks a lot in advance!!
    Dan

    Looking at what you posted, i think you may have some issues with the quoting.
    to_date(:DATE_FIELD,''DD-MM-YYYY'))"
    {code}
    You have a double quote before the DD there.

  • [Gnome - GDM] Locale/Charset Problem

    Hi everybody,
    I´m using Gnome with GDM as Display Manager.
    I got a problem with my keyboard settings, but don´t know why
    The first charset/locale option is set in the /boot/grub/menu.lst
    kernel /vmlinuz26 lang=de locale=de_DE.UTF8 root=/dev.....
    I use a LUKS encrypted /home partition and need a german locale/charset for the passphrase/during bootup.
    The second charset option is in my /etc/rc.conf:
    LOCALE="de_DE.UTF8"
    KEYMAP="de"
    With those settings I got an almost "normal" keyboard behaviour.
    The Umlaut-Character for example arent´t working during bootup or in a tty. In a later started shell inside of Gnome everything works fine.
    The second charset problem is during password input inside GDM. The layout isn´t working right here either.
    I already tried the ./dmrc settings of Language and Keys, but nothing works.
    Anyone got a clue how to fix that?
    Greets
    Flo

    Maybe you can change the subject of this thread, as the issue is not only related to gdm, IMHO.
    I don't get it either. Settings are LOCALE="sv_SE"  and KEYMAP="sv-latin1" in rc.conf and locale -a gives me
    [root@localhost ~]# locale -a
    C
    POSIX
    sv_SE
    sv_SE.iso88591
    swedish
    But something is still wrong, because calling up some manpages gives me
    Cannot open the message catalog "man" for locale "sv_SE"
    (NLSPATH="<none>")
    I ran locale-gen, but I'm pretty lost in this locale business too...

  • Problem using SQL Loader with ODI

    Hi,
    I am having problems using SQL Loader with ODI. I am trying to fill an oracle table with data from a txt file. At first I had used "File to SQL" LKM, but due to the size of the source txt file (700MB), I decided to use "File to Oracle (SQLLDR)" LKM.
    The error that appears in myFile.txt.log is: "SQL*Loader-101: Invalid argument for username/password"
    I think that the problem could be in the definition of the data server (Physical architecutre in topology), because I have left blank Host, user and password.
    Is this the problem? What host and user should I use? With "File to SQL" works fine living this blank, but takes to much time.
    Thanks in advance

    I tried to use your code, but I couldn´t make it work (I don´t know Jython). I think the problem could be with the use of quotes
    Here is what I wrote:
    import os
    retVal = os.system(r'sqlldr control=E:\Public\TXTODI\PROFITA2/Profita2Final.txt.ctl log=E:\Public\TXTODI\PROFITA2/Profita2Final.txt.log userid=MYUSER/myPassword @ mySID')
    if retVal == 1 or retVal > 2:
    raise 'SQLLDR failed. Please check the for details '
    And the error message is:

    I've seen folks work around similar problems by temporarily changing their NLS parameters (warning: you probably don't want to do this on a heavily used or production system). I know you said you changed them, but it might be worth another try.
    On NT save the registry entry for NLS_LANG. I think it is at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->ORACLE->KEY_YOURORACLEHOME
    Make the NLS_LANG registry value AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
    Restart the database.
    Load the data
    Reset the registry entry
    Restart the database.

    how can i do that
    i am not clear about the control file uses and its creation

    1. Your command "sqlldr userid=scott/tiger control=emp.ctl" doeas not include data file name (where is the data for import) because there this file is not specified in .ctl file.
    So define "data" prameter in sqlldr command or add infile <filename> to .ctl as following:

    This .ctl is expecting following data structure:

  • Problem using File sharing  in a small office network

    I have a problem using File sharing on an Imac and Macbook Pro.
    My office has a small network running Windows Small office file server 2003. I have one Windows 2000 PC connected to it and 3 Macs, an 2.4 gHz Intel iMac running Leopard 10.5.6 , a MBP running the same and a Mac Mini running 10.5.
    From the Finder Shared window of the Mac Mini, I can see all the computers on the network. It also used to be the case for the iMac, but the MBP could never see the Windows PC’s, not the server or the Win2000. This wasn’t a big problem as I was communicating between the Macs and using the shared printer on the iMac.
    On Monday Jan 19 the iMac was suddenly unavailable to the other 2 Macs. It was working normally on the Friday. The iMac can access the Mac Mini and copy files to it. The Mac Mini can see the iMac but cannot access it. Even trying to connect as, ends in a failed connection. I have tried rebooting, turning File sharing off and then on again to no avail.
    The iMac now also cannot see the Windows PC’s which it previously could.
    To get files from the MBP for printing, I now copy it to the Mac Mini and acces the folder from the iMac, a very tedious procedure. I don’t know why this happened and am scared that the Mac Mini is going to do the same thing.
    All three computers are also running VMware 2.0 with Windows XP pro, and from VMware the server is visible on all the computers.
    Any help will be much appreciated, I live in a small town in South Africa and the local computer suppliers have no knowledge of the Macs.
    I think that the problem with the iMac may have started after a software upgrade to 10.5.6 but I am not entirely sure.
    Thank you
    ajdk

    Well, you're current method sounds pretty good. But if you want to user a file server, hey go ahead.
    What you want to do when you centralize project files is to keep track of which one is the newest and becareful not to overwrite files with the same name. So you either have to set up individual spaces on the server (separate AFP/FTP folders maybe), or you'll need to run a file checkout service.
    The individual space is cheaper, but it's not much of a difference from backing up to the network drive. Since you have Gigabit connections, you might even opt to save ALL the user files on the server instead of just the project files.
    If you want to run a file checkout service, there's two approaches. You can run a service that can host any kind of file, or you can run a version control system for each kind of application (Photoshop, Word, etc.). Please notice, that as you read further and further along, the methods become more and more expensive and complicated. Once you get to this point, it will be necessary to purchase or build software in addition to the Mac OS X Server package.
