Customizing insert bar in dreamweaver 8

I recently started using dreamweaver 8 RELUCTANTLY instead of
homesite 5.5 since it seems to have been abandoned. There are some
great improvements like the properties tab and such. However,
having to edit a .xml file, create your own .js and .html files to
add or move custom items to the insert bar is a major step
backward. In homesite all you have to do is right click on the
insert bar and fill out a form or wizard type app. It used to be so
easy but now it is a major PAIN
Please excuse me for venting but I just hope Adobe
can realize that there are some great features in homesite that
seem to have been completely abandoned in dreamweaver. I know they
are completely different apps with a different history but If they
plan (or seem) to have replaced homesite with dreamweaver's coding
environment, I hope they will take another look back and see what
they are missing. Many of us have been coding cold fusion since
it's creation and really loved cold fusion studio/homesite.
Dreamweaver just doesn't cut the mustard compared to those older
apps. Here's hoping they can continue to enhance dreamweaver in the
future.

That's not something we can tell you how to do step-by-step,
because there
are too many possibilities, and it's not something you can do
with
Dreamweaver alone.
Basically, you build and style the form using Dreamweaver,
and then you use
a script of some kind to send the form. That might be a CGI
script that your
host server provides for free, with instructions (ask your
host), or it
might be one that you choose yourself and install. There are
a number of
types - CGI/Perl, ASP, ColdFusion, PHP, ASP.NET. The one you
choose would
depend upon what the host server supports. You'll need to
contact them and
ask.

Insert Bar

How do I reset my "Insert Bar" within Dreamweaver CS5 so it appears like the top image. The other day I opened Dreamweaver and the Insert Bar was not there. I then went to the "Windows" menu and selected "Insert". The result was that the "Insert" came up with the other floating palettes on the right. I then convert that palette to a bar and got a different looking Insert Bar (bottom image). I have also tried reseting the workspace. How can I get the Insert Bar to appear like image on top.

Add Spry Widgets to Dreamweaver Insert Bar Spry Group

Hi. I'm trying to work out how to add Spry widgets to
Dreamweaver's
Insert bar.
I downloaded Spry for Ajax 1.6 and copied the the contents of
the
SpryTooltip Folder.
I did a search in Adobe Dreamweaver's program folder for
everything Spry.
I pasted SpryTooltip everywhere in Dreamweaver that Spry
references
exist. I even created a .png icon for Spry ToolTip in:
Adobe Dreamweaver CS3\configuration\Objects\Spry
I opened Dreamweaver and there it was in my insert bar! My
icon for Spry
tooltip!
I tried to insert it into a blank age and got the message:
"Trigger
event missing" or something like that.
I'm sure there must be a way to add these new widgets to
Dreamweaver's
insert bar in the Spry group.
Can someone please tell me how to do it. Starting with
SpryTooltip.
and...
I might as well go ahead and ask how to add new Spry Effects
to
Dreamweaver's behavior panel as well. Let's say "Pulsate" for
an example.
PS. I've already asked this at the Spry Forum. No one has
replied yet.

hey,
I am a newbie to Spry too. I asked a similar question in the
Spry Forum.
It seems that you can not get the widgets into the Insert Bar
or on theBehavioral Panel.
To get the widgets to work, you only have the option to link
to them from your spry folder.
Spry is exciting, yet, it is still a new method, so the
WYSIWYG interface thing is still developing. Unfortunaly, if you
want to use Spry, you need to get dirty with the code stufff.
So, I too, use Spry sparingly.....

For Examlpe: The focus be in "INSERT", but it doesn't move to other operations(red color) by keyboard.

Insert Bar Problem

Using DW 8.0.2 on MAC OSX 10.5.4.
Installed "Insert a QuickTime Movie" extension from Adobe
Exchange using Ext. Manager. (extension worked)
Following that my Insert Bar is now labeled 'Common' and has
only the Common tab with only the first 4-5 icons. Same scenario in
the 'menu' configuration. Attempts to customize show only the
common objects available.
Also can no longer insert layer from main menu.
Have reinstalled DW 8 and updated to 8.0.2 with no change.
How can I fix this???

I'm pretty sure this is part of the preferences file. If you
go to your Library->Preferences and search for the .plist file
which has the name Dreamweaver in it you can drag that to the trash
and then restart DW. It will take longer to restart after doing
this because OSX will need to create a new preferences file, but
this should solve problems with the menus.

CS6 update does not show HTML5 option in Insert Bar... still seeing Media from CS5.5... ???

I've updated CS5.5 to CS6 repeatedly, and I've then installed the CS6 update for Dreamweaver... I don't have the HTML5 option in the Insert Bar...

You don't get option for HTML5. It is already there as part of HTML. The only thing you need to do is to set the default document type to HTML 5 as shown in this picture:
Once you have got the default document type, all your new pages will be HTML 5 compliant and the HTML codes you use will be HTML5 compliant and your pages will look identical on all HTML5 compliant browsers. All current browsers are HTML5 compliant to some degree. Even IE 10 and 11 is HTML5 compliant

Adding Extension Tab to Insert Bar

Finally, after much trial and error, I' ve created an
extension to insert some code I needed that prompts for input...
Now, however, in following a tutorial I found on dmxzone.com
that shows how to create an .mxi file to package the extension, I'm
encountering some problems.
First, I had tried modifying the insertbar.xml file, which
worked, but not exactly as I wanted it to...and, I needed to
package it to give to someone else, so I undid the modifications to
the insertbar.xml file, but my modifications refuse to go away, and
still appear on the insert bar...How can I get that to go away.
Secondly, I created the .mxi file I needed, but I can't seem
to get it to appear as I want...what I want is to have the tab
labeled "GFSO", because I want to have multiple extensions that
pertain to that organization. Then, I want the tooltip to say
"Insert MP3 Player Code"...
My question, I guess, is...how do I make that happen...??? I
can get either/or to happen, but not both. What in the .mxi file
controls this??? I've searched everywhere, but can't find any
resource that fully addresses this question.
My .mxi file reads:

this say "GFSO"??? I thought that by having the .html and .js code

I haven't the solution for the second problem, but for the
first, maybe it's a multi-user configuration pb.
If you have modified the Program Files/Macromedia/DW/ folder,
there are chances that DW copied the insertbar.xml fil to your
local user folder (Document & Settings/User Name/ ....).
Another thing could be a cache folder DW's using but I can't
remember where it is.

Extending the Insert Bar: where do the labels come from?

Very much a beginner with Extensions; just a simple question about items on the Insert Bar.
When I look at the content of 'insertbar.xml', the entry for 'Heading 1' is this:

So my question is, how does the button on the Insert Bar read 'Heading 1'? That text appears nowhere in the 'insertbar.xml' document, nor is it in 'menus.xml', so it must come from somewhere else.
I haven't found any reference to this in 'Extending Dreamweaver', and a content search of the Configurations folder yields zero as well. Any help is appreciated.

Strings specified using MMString: have been separated out so they can be localized for different languages. They are compiled and stored in: [install-dir]/[lang]/Resources/strings.zbin (where lang is something like "en_US").
If your extension is just for 1 language or is non-localizable text, then change "MMString:label" to "label" and put the text directly in insertbar.xml.
If you want to make your extension for multiple languages, then store the strings in the [install-dir]/[lang]/Configuration/Strings folder and reference them by id. Take a look at the XML files in that fodler as an example.

#1 Have you procured your domain name and web hosting yet? You'll need to do that to publish your pages online.
#2 When you sign-up for web hosting, the company will send you FTP log-in credentials to your site's web server. You will enter this info into your DW Site Definition. Site > New Site > See screenshots below:
Under Servers: Root Directory is whatever your hosting company tells you to use. This varies by web host. Some commonly used ones are public_html, www or htdocs.
After your site definition is set-up, hit the TEST button to confirm it's working. If it's not connecting, go to More Options.
Go to the Files Panel (F8). Use the UP Arrow to PUT files to remote server.
Use the DOWN Arrow to GET files from server to your local site folder.
Post back when you have finished uploading your work to the remote server.

How can I remove google custom search bar from about:newtab page

When I open Firefox or a new tab I have it set to about:newtab which is great and all. Just recently I noticed a Google search bar on the new tab page though, that it immediately sets my cursor to. I prefer typing in the normal address bar at top. If I don't think to take that extra tedious step to click on the address bar before typing it opens to Google Custom Search Engine. Which does not have the images, maps, etc tabs along top. Making a simple task of researching something or other purpose just that much more annoying to do, because I'll have to type into the address bar anyways.
So I was hoping there is a way to remove this annoying Google Custom Search Bar from my about:newtab?
Or at the least make my cursor start in the address bar, not the Google Custom Search Bar.

I suddenly cannot insert attachments to outgoing emails in Windows Live Hotmail. If I click on attachments or any other tool in the insert bar, nothing happens. My wife's hot mail account on the same computer, using the same version of Firefox, works fine; my account works fine when I use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. How can I fix this?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.<br />
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

How to restore Firefox custom search bar

I'm using Firefox 37.0.1 and for some reason my custom search bar is gone. It was there last time I was online and I don't think I did anything to remove it. I used to be able to change the search engine over to Youtube, Wikipedia, Amazon and what have you but now it only searches Google. but it didn't help. Does anyone know how to get it back? I think I need to do something with the about:config page but I don't want to mess with that without asking someone who knows what they're doing first (read: not me XD). I've added a screenshot of what my search bar looks like now.

Try the following and see if it works:
Click on the menu icon (three bars) in the top-right corner, and choose "customize". You should see the search bar somewhere in the window, and can drag it back to next to what is shown in the picture. Custom Scroll Bar

Hi,
I want to implement a custom scroll bar which functions like the one in StartMenu->Programs option. Instead of a vertical scroll bar I want buttons at the top and botton of the frame and on mouse over of it I want to implement the vertical scroll bar functionality. Is there any way to do it in Java. Basically I have a panel where in I have added a JTree component. I want to implement these scroll bars in this panel.

Scroll over highlight function not working on custom nav bar links

Hi - I've created a custom nav bar in iWeb (www.HollywoodRC.com). I have it set up so that the text highlights when scrolled over. This function works in iWeb but does not work on my published site in Safari; however, works in my published site on IE. Any ideas on how to get the scroll over highlight to work on my published safari site? All the links work properly.

No. Things must have changed. I created a hyperlink with a non web safe font, LedgerD, added a drop shadow and published. I also put the same link in a shape. You can see them in this test page: Page-1 . The two items are image files but they do not contain the link text. Very strange. The hyperlink text can't be selected nor dragged to the desktop like other links, like the Click to Play links on the page, however.
However, I don't know how IE will handle it. According to this IE emulator site, http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/, IE can see the drop shadow. But it doesn't tell us how the links will work.
