Dreamweaver Code Hints Bug?

I'm evaluating CS4 and am noticing some really significant
bugs that are deal breakers and surprising for a product that
should have been QA'd for obvious bugs.
One of the more significant bugs I'm encountering in
Dreamweaver is regarding code-hinting.
When I'm writing code, I often rely on code hints to cut down
on typing and increase my speed significantly, but especially
within stylesheets, the code hint list seems to pop up, then
disappear so fast I don't have any time to choose an option. Often
it happens while I'm scrolling down the list and it's clearly not
operating as intended.
I thought there might be a setting in the preferences that
would adjust this, but it's clearly not a feature. There's no
reason those code hints should disappear WHILE I'm interacting with
the list.
It does seem to fix itself after restarting the app, but
something is definitely off because upon attempting a quit, it
always spits out a bunch of error dialogues and fails to quit
correctly.

The code hints should stay open when you're scrolling up and
down the list of options. For me, I can use the up/down arrows as
well as the scrool bar with the mouse and have no issues. If I hit
the left or right arrows, then the hints disappear. I suppose that
some other non-text keys may also make the hints list disappear. Is
it possible that you're inadvertantly hitting some other keys while
perusing the hints list?

Code Hinting Bug in CS5

For some reason I don't get code hinting when trying to code in a FLA. (Nor in an as file.)
I had seen a few reports of this problem, but folks seemed to resolve them by saving or putting their .as files in the same folder. But I'm not using .as files.
I did experience the problem when I first got CS5. And I saw a little warning in the lower corner of the AS panel that Flash was still building a cache. And when I saved that file I suddenly got hinting.
This time I hadn't saved and thought, "Oh, yeah I need to save." But that didn't work either.
I'm using CS5 on a Mac running 10.6.3. I still do have CS4 installed.

Code hints is unable to build code hints cache
One of the new cool features in Adobe Flash Authoring CS5 is custom code hints introspection. Using this feature some of you might encounter the bug when code hints is unable to build code hints cache. A file cap was put in place to prevent the code hinting mechanism from churning in the background for files saved on the desktop or in the root directory. It will try to parse all surroundings files which could take quite a bit of time and would hold up getting back any code hinting information. Therefore, a default file cap of 800 files was put into place. However, you can change this value by adding a preference key as follows :
This tip is only for advance users who are comfortable changing registry keys.
Windows:
1. Open Regedit and navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Adobe > Flash 11 > Settings
2. Right+click and choose: ‘New… > DWORD Value’
3. Rename the key: Project File Cap
4. Select the key and choose: ‘Modify’
5. Edit the value as either hex or decimal: 1000
6. Click OK and restart Flash
Mac:
1. Open ‘/Users//Library/Preferences/Flash CS5 Preferences’ in Text Edit
2. Under the section add the following: 1000
3. Save the file and restart Flash

Dreamweaver Code Hints on Hover

Hello,
I'm curious if there is a way to make Dreamweaver display code hints for a particular function by hovering the mouse over it (similar to Visual Studio functionality). For example, given this javascript/jquery line:
$(this).attr('selected');
When I hover over "attr" I'd like to see a popup containing the two code hints for this:
attr(attributeName)
attr(attributeName, value)
If anyone knows how to make this possible that'd be great. I don't even nessecarily need it to work the way I've requested, I'd just like some way to see the code hints that doesn't require deleting everything after the period and retyping the code. Thanks in advance.

I have done more experimentation and this is what I have found:
I am using a MacBook Pro with two external monitors - one via the mini display port, ther other a USB Display Link adapter.
I prefer to have the MPB built-in display set as my 'primary' display so that drives and any usb thumb drives appear on this display. Since OSX 10.9 displays a menu bar and dock on all monitors, this works nicely.
When, in the display control panel, the MPB display is aligned with the top of the other two larger displays, Dreamweaver's code hints display correctly in the DW's application frame, regardless of what display it is showing on. However, if the MBP display is arranged so its bottom is well below the bottom of the other two displays (to reflect the actual physical placement of the displays on my desk) code hints display on the MBP display. An interesting issue I noticed while experimenting is when I change the MPB display alignment so its bottom is below the others, the DW application frame will shift downwards on whatever display it is showing on (indicating some sort of tie between DW and the primary display).
Regardless of the arrangment of the dsiplays and their alignments with each other, if DW is on a secondary display, any dialog and information windows (such as those generated when uploading files to a server) will appear on the MBP display (or whatever display is set as primary).
That is even more of a problem than the code hints. Code hints can be ignored, while the dialog and alert windows often need a response, meaning constant head turning and a cursor trip across display real estate.

DreamWeaver CS4 CSS code hints not working

Please help.
DreamWeaver has stopped showing code hints for CSS selector values. When I start typing "… div {border: …" DreamWeaver used to show the possible value for this selector (i.e. 1px solid #ccc). Now all that pops up is this "… 'border-width' 'border-style' 'color' …"
How can I get DreamWeaver to show the possible values for CSS? I'm running DreamWeaver CS4 on a Mac book pro with Snow Leopard. DreamWeaver was set up using the default settings, and there are no extensions enabled.

How do I disable InContext Editing code hints in Dreamweaver CS6?

The service was discontinued in 2011, why does the latest version of Dreamweaver not make it easy to disable these code hints? There are no options to disable them, and I've gone so far as to comment out every individual line of the ICE.vtm file yet still these code hints insist on popping up. What's the point of having a customizable IDE if I'm forced to have code hints I couldn't use if I wanted to. Can we get a patch giving us an option to disable these?

In Context Editing, is still available via 'Business Catalyst'. That is why it is still available.
As far as code hints are concerned, you have to edit the code hints xml file also.

Dreamweaver CS3 Code Hints

Has anyone experienced problems with DW CS3's code hints for
ColdFusion? I've installed the CF8 extensions, but the code hints
don't work properly in Windows XP (My Mac version works fine).
Basically, the "hints" for tags work, but only to an extent.
For example, I've found the code hints for CFWINDOW do not provide
the color picker for bgcolor in the style attribute. Funny quirks
such as that.

are you implying that the newer versions of IIS might be more up to date than the cs3 dreamweaver and that is where my problems will arise?
I am not implying anything. I am simply wondering if the IIS is configured properly. Have you tried creating a basic static page and load it in your browser to see if it loads OK?

I've been using Dreamweaver to create php based websites with the popular Zend Framework 1. I'm now trying to integrate Dreamweaver with ZF2 and the Dreamweaver is giving me errors for lies such as:
$loader = new Zend\Loader\StandardAutoloader(array('autoregister_zf' => true));
and
use Zend\Session\Container;
even though the lines are correct. Do I have to do anything special in Dreamweaver so that it recognizes these statements as not being errors?

Dreamweaver CS6 Site setup and Site specific Code hints

I have just started using Dreamweaver CS6 and when I navigate to the server page in the site setup only the intro text is shown.... clicking my mouse around the window reveals the server table and buttons and I can proceed to set up a server.
I have several sites in there now but when I try to set up site specific code hints it shows and error saying that I need to add at least one site before I can continue.
Help

Easiest way to solve this is to have you post a screenshot of your site definition where you define the testing/remote server. Please be sure to blur or remove any sensitive information from your screenshot before posting (ie: username, password, etc). We will assume you are able to connect to the remote and/or testing server. If not you should talk with your host about the remote server or you would need to post more information about your testing environment.

Close Tags and other code hints not working after installing Dreamweaver 2014

I'm working on a windows machine. All the code hinting features where working on previous installations, but they're not on 2014. I'm not sure if it's a bug or something was changed and I have to turn the features on somewhere other than the Code Hints settings?

(.asc) Code Hinting in Flash Professional CS5.5 || Flash Builder 4.5

Problem: I would like to enable code hinting and highlighting in either Flash Professional or Flash Builder when developing an Actionscript Communications File (.asc).
Steps Taken:
Searched Google with limited success, most signs all pointed to FMSGuru.com where one may obtain an Eclipse Plugin, but:
It was created in 2007 (likely out dated)
It has known bugs that haven't been addressed
Searched this forum / adobe's web site to find a solution, to no avail.
Posted this, now, in an attempt to put this to rest
Request: If anyone knows how I can enable FP or FB to give code hints / syntax highlighting, I would really apprecaite some direction. If not, I appreciate the fact you even read this.

To note, Dreamweaver has the ability to provide code hinting if I remember correctly but I'm perpetually disappointed in the FMS team for not providing even ONE item that helps in the development of server side coding for FMS. They have never provided anything and it's been up to the good will of developers for the platform to put together tools. As it is now, you'll probably never see anything better as most people (that I know of) have moved away from FMS, partially for this reason despite multiple requests that Adobe do something. Not to insult the FMS team, as they do what they have to do to pull in the paycheck, and the bean counters provide that and seem to be making most of the decisions.

HTML5 code hinting not working inside Javascript Function on DW CS6

Hi,
I am working on Dreamweaver CS6 and code hinting isnt working as expected when writing Javascript code.
The minute I insert a function the code hinting doesnt display HTML5 items anymore.
Should I remove the function then the HTML5 hinting reappears.
How do I get the code hinting to work when I add in the function?

Unwanted source code appears in browser but not in Dreamweaver Code Window

I am using templates and css, and Dreamweaver to build a new website of about 20 pages. With the first several pages, everything was working well. Then as I continued to add pages, I started to notice some code appearing at the bottom of web pages (under the footer), and then, a page duplicating the footer, and then, the drop-down function on the index page not working (pulls down and pops right back up) while headers on other pages work fine. I viewed the source code in the browsers (IE and Firefox) and I see the extra code at the bottom. However, this code doesn't show up in Dreamweaver, or, when I open the files in Notepad.
Following is an example of the different bottom-most lines of code in the Firefox browser compared to what I see in Dreamweaver or Notepad (note the highlighted line that is not showing up in Notepad or Dreamweaver).

this answer is a bit late, but i think i have figured this problem out and it is probably still bugging someone out there.
i was having the same issues through many dreamweaver upgrades and kept running into the same problem (only on my Mac though - PC never gave me trouble). anyway, my hard drive recently died and i had a brand new one installed and then i installed a fresh version of CS5. started building a page and ran into the same problem. now that this is happening on a new drive with a fresh OS and reinstalled software, i needed to look elsewhere.
the problem is so simple you will more than likely cry at the amount of time you have wasted on it. more than likely if this is happening to you, you are working off of a network drive or a server. all my files are stored on a server locally, so when i make a change it is saving to the server. either a bad or slow connection to the server and/or a server going bad will cause this issue.
take the same file that you are having problems with and save down to your desktop - then preview in a browser. so the solution is to build the entire site on your local drive and then FTP up to the live site when complete.

Code hints don't work - include files using a variable

In Dreamweaver CS 5.5 code hints didn't work properly.
DW would not look at my code and find the include files and look at the functions inside them when using a variable to make an absolute path, which is the best way to include files in PHP (its faster and more reliable on your web server)
Here is an example:

I made a full SQL Developer installation with Java included, so I suppose that the included version is used.
After a problem with the German Version I tried to switch to English Version by using the hint:

I changed the content of sqldeveloper.conf and now again the code templates (strg-shift-t) don't work!!!
(I already rebooted and set the accelerators to default, but it didn't help now.)

Code Coloring and Code Hints

I no longer have code coloring or code hints working on
Dreamweaver. I checked the preferences and everything is still set
the same but whenever I open an existing document it will not give
me the code coloring or code hints. I still get it when I open a
new doc but nothing else. Any ideas on how to fix this?

It sounds like DW does not recognize the file type of your
page. What is
the file extension?
