Use of Open and close data set in to pick up files from application server

As per my earlier posts i m making a programm which will pick excel sheet from application server and make auto PR by bapi and this all process will be handle by background processing (SM36, SM37). My concer is all proces are working fine but my files are not been picked by application server , when run on my own machine everything is working fine.I never used OPENDATA SET command before , so i have no idea how it will be used , can anyone provide me details with my set of codes where it should be used ....

i have deployed my application on OAS 10g on RHEL 5 ,,now since my application is calling some pro*c programs and then they generate some text based reports on fixed folder named
/treas/temp
now i simply have to open these text based reports on web browser
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('/forms/pcreport/'||v_filename);
but for that i need to create virtual directory name : " /pcreport " without code
kindlly help as its working on my developer suit 10g i created a virtual directory in my application server by making following entry in "orion-web.xml" file

How to delete the record in the file present in the application server?

I have two questions.
i) How can I delete a record based on some condition in the recordx in the file that is present in the application server?
ii) How can I lock the users whiel one user is accessing the file on the application server?

Hi,
If u want a frequent deletion this approach to delete a record from a file will havee unnecesary copy of records from one file to another and deletion of one file and renaming activities.
Instead what u can do is Add and field del_flag to ur record structure.
If u want to delete the record from a file just mark this del_flag as 'X'.
While processing u can have a loop like
loop at it_XXX where del_flag <> 'X'.
endloop.
This will logically delete the record.
When u r to finish the application at that time only perform this copying / deleting / and renaing activity

To generate file at AL11 file directory use File adapter. Proxy is not required for this
Its giving the error as "Unable to create new pooled resource:FTPEx:Login incorrect".
1. Check with the Login credentials for the FTP service.
2. FTP User you use in communication channel must have 777 access to FTP location.

hi if i am using below code with date time stamp the file is downloaded to the application server correctly and each time i execut eht program a difference file is generated as date time stamp differs each time but
whne i remove the date time stamp ie sy-datum and sy-uzeit as we dont need to display the date time stamp with the file each time i execute the program a file is generated but it overwrites the ealier existing file please suggest as each time it shoul generate a new file....

first of all decide you have to overwrite the existing file or you want to create the new, i think the answer is there in your query itself, if you want to create new then concatenate the date and time, else don't do that.
below are the additions we can use while opening the data set.

I have to validate the application server file path on selection screen.
I am using following code :

InfoSpoke fails with message "Could not open file on application server"

BW Experts,
I created an InfoSpoke that is configured to extract to a flat file. The name of the file is specified using a logical filename. During extraction, the infospoke reports the error message "Could not open file on application server" adnd marks the extraction process as red(failed). I have tried to run the InfoSpoke in background mode and in dialog mode and the same error appears. After i run in dialog mode, i checked SU53 for authorization errors and did not find any. I also tried changing the Logical filename setup in transaction FILE to a more "friendly" directory in which i'm sure i have authorizations (e.g. my UNIX home directory) and im still getting errors.
Can you please share your thoughts on this? Any help will greatly appreciated. I also promise to award points.

If i configure the InfoSpoke to download to a file using "File Name" option and also check the "Application server" checkbox, the extract works correctly (extraction to the defualt SAP path and filename=infospoke name). If i configure the InfoSpoke to download to the local workstation, the InfoSpoke also works correctly. It's only when i configure it to download to the application server and use the "Logical filename" option, that i encounter a failed extract.
