Generating PDF thumbnails in data manager.

Hello,
I m facing a problem while generating Thumbnails for PDF's. I m working with MDM 5.5 SP04. And for the pdf, ADOBE 8.0 Version.

hi Shreya,
In Data manager:
go to Configuration options ---> Display --> Thumbnails rather than objects in the records pane option
you will have 2 options: yes and No
select YES.
Problem still arrise than:-
Go to record mode
In the Records pane, select the PDF record whose thumbnails you want to generate.then Right-click on one of the records and choose Generate Thumbnail from the context menu, or choose Objects -> Generate Thumbnail from the main menu.
Generating Thumbnails progress dialog will open to indicate the status as it generates the thumbnail for each of the PDFs.

Hi Gaurav,
In order to load PDF files Adobe Acrobat® Standard or Professional Version is required and it needs to be installed on the machine that is loading the PDF and not on the Server machine.
That's why it is giving you error to Install Adobe Acrobat. It is also required to generate Thumbnails.

PDF - Importing through Data Manager -

I am performing following steps. In the data manager, I am trying to import the PDF file. Then link it to the Main Table.
While importing I am using "Link to Orginal File Only"
PDF file is present in the share folder and the path of share folder does not have spaces. I get the following error message
"There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found".
Actually file is available as well as path is correct and also acees to the sahre folder.
I tried same thing through local drive from my desktop. I encounter the same message.
When, I go and see PDFs table in the repository, I can see a record inserted with the correct path. I am not able top open up the PDF using Object --> View PDF.
I am using MDM 7.1 SP 05.
Please share your experience.

Please let me know what version of MDM you are using... Can you give a try by uploading pdf from your local system.. This will make sure that there has nothing to do with the shared drive..

Generating pdf report via concurrent manager and xml publisher

I have report (rdf) which works fine in eBusiness Suite but Id like to create translatable reports with reach layout (comparing with the Report Builder) based on the functionalities of the XML publisher. Ive made all necessary steps (first change the output format for that report in concurrent manager from pdf to xml, submit the report to get xml file, which Ive used in Microsoft Word Template Builder to make layout in rtf file, and create data and template in XML Publisher Administrator in eBusiness Suite).
When Ive submitted that report from concurrent manager, after the concurrent manage finished his job I got the warning message.
Also the output file is not generated and in log file there is a message: One or more post-processing actions failed. Consult the OPP service log for details.
Concurrent manager works fine, but there are problem when concurrent manager send the xml output of the report to XML Publisher which have to create pdf layout based on rtf template.
I think there might be a problem with report complexity, while Ive used layout formatting, api calls to eBusiness Suite, parameters, placeholders, attached library etc.
If it is impossible to get new report based on xml publisher template, what is the purpose of xml publisher if it is so limited, while every eBusiness Suite Report is so complex.
I hope there will be a person on this forum with the same problem, otherwise Ill give up at all from XML Publisher, at least until it come a better version of that tool which it seems to be in early development phase and not ready for the market yet.

All of the complex report logic is handled in your Oracle Report (rdf) file.
If your Oracle report is working OK, then this report should be generating XML.
After running your report, go to the View Requests window. Highlight your request, and click the Diagnostics button. Then click the 'View XML' button. If you see XML data, then you should be OK.
When I faced a similar issue, it was because the '1 step' process didnt work for the particular report I was using. The '1 step' process doesn't work for every report. Which report are you using?
If the report is submitted via a form (not the concurrent manager request form), then you probably need to use 2 steps to produce the desired output.

How to populate Adobe LiveCycle Designer generated PDF Forms with data from Database in Windows app

I have a PDF template designed in Adobe LiveCycle Designer. This template has form fields which needs to be filled with data programmatically. I am using windows application in C#.Net 2005 in which I want to retrieve data from database and merge this data into PDF form in respective fields.
How this can be achieved?
I searched a lot & I found that we can process the XDP file generated from PDF to acheive this. I created the XDP file out of the PDF template created in designer. But I don't know how to merge data from database into that XDP file in respective fields and again convert this XDP file back to PDF programmatically. Can anybody help me ? This is urgent.

Generating pdf file per data record in XML/BI Publisher using Java ConcPrg

I need to developa Java Conc program which would read a table and for each record in a table generate a separate pdf file(fixed template).This is a java conc prg so I need to use XML/BI Publisher API's to acheive this.
What would be best approach to acheive this, so that I could create a separate pdf file for each data record.Please respond ASAP.

Can I generate PDF thumbnails on server using Acrobat SDK

Hi All,
Are there any licensing limitations or restrictions that prevent me from utilizing Acrobat's COM objects or interfaces to generate thumbnails for PDF documents on the server keeping in mind that I will install full version of Adobe Professional on server?

You should read the product pages for a description of the LiveCycle ES suite. It is not an API interface to Acrobat - it is an entire range of PDF-based server solutions for paperless workflows. Many different products that can be extended directly via Java.

Can you give me an example? I don't know of any products that extend the Acrobat SDK (which is what I assume you meant by Adobe SDK). I know of several the provide extended interfaces to the PDF Library SDK, as well as many 3rd party proprietary solutions (since the PDF standard is an open format, anybody can write their own libraries for it from scratch).

Yes. Call Adobe Sales or Customer Service, and get answers straight from the horses mouth. They're a for-profit company (and quite good at the profit part). Sometimes the decisions they make may not make everybody happy, but it is their right to make those decisions.

Cannot Save generated PDF, and associated data file is in french not english

Hello,
So I have 2 weird issues.
First, after I save my newly created form as a PDF, I send it off to my coworker, they cannot save the document after filling it out, only print. Checking the security settings on the document, everything is allowed except document assembly, changing the document, and creation of template pages, yet they cannot save the filled out form only print. Created in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 with Adobe Reader 9.
When I generated previewed data, the saved data is in french yet all of my settings are English including program, OS, and regional settings are all English US.
Need help asap.

The option I was trying to do is:
User has the Reader (form Reader Enabled using the full version of Acrobat before deployment. See licence restrictions)
user can open form;
fill it in;
print it;
data connections to databases and web services will NOT work;
user can save the form.
The actual answer to the question is this:
Enable Reader users to save form data
Ordinarily, Reader users can’t save filled-in copies of forms that they complete. However, you can extend rights to Reader users so they have the ability to do so. These extended rights also include the ability to add comments, use the Typewriter tool, and digitally sign the PDF.
Open a single PDF, or select one or more PDFs in a PDF Portfolio.
Choose Advanced > Extend Features In Adobe Reader.
The other question regarding the data in french is still unknown why it is doing that.

Link PDF in Data Manager

Do one of you know if it is necessary to installe Adobe Acrobat to be able to link a PDF document to the PDF table in Data Manager?

when you are uploading the file through Data Group you can store that file either using option Link to original file or store in repository. Once you have uploaded all the files in data Group then after that using Import Manager, you can link main table records with the corresponding PDF files using PDF file names.

Can not Upload PDF in MDM data repository

Hi, expert,
when I upload the PDF in MDM data manager, the system error log is :
Unable to open Adobe Acrobat.
See your administrator about installing Adobe Acrobat.
But, when I upload the image, the status is success..
I do not know if it is Adobe Acrobat installing problem or I miss some configuration or it can not upload the PDF into MDM repository..
Your help would be really appreciated.

I have already solved the problem , I have done the following actions:
1. Stop J2EE engine
2. rename folder
 /usr/sap/<SID>/<Instance>/j2ee/os_libs/adssap
 Please rename this adssap folder to adssap.old
3. Start J2EE engine
 During starting J2EE engine, folder adssap will be re-generated.
4. Also make sure XMLform.exe is extracted under
 /usr/sap/<SID>/<Instance>/j2ee/os_libs/adssap/XMLFormService/bin
I restarted the entire instance (ABAP and JAVA) and now all is running fine.

                                   The issues i'm facing are:
When it is reading a row from MS-Excel it is writing to the .pdf file from last cell to first cell.( 2 cell in 1 place, 1 cell in 2 place like if the row has two cells with data as : Name of the Intern: Kesavulu Reddy then it is writing to the .pdf file as Kesavulu Reddy Name of Intern)
and the second issue is:
It is not recognizing the date format..it is recognizing the date in first row only......
Plz Tell me wht is the solution for this...

Generate PDF using Managed Bean with custom HTTP headers

Generate a report in various formats (e.g., PDF, delimited, Excel, HTML, etc.) using JDeveloper 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.3.0) upon clicking an af:commandButton. See also the StackOverflow version of this question:

HTTP headers are being sent twice: once by the framework and once by a bean.

The Managed Bean is fairly complex. The code to `responseComplete` is getting called, however it does not seem to be called sufficiently early to prevent the application framework from writing the HTTP headers.

The `<fixed-outcome>success</fixed-outcome>` strikes me as incorrect -- I don't want the method call to return to another task.
Restrictions
The report server receives requests from the web server exclusively. The report server URL cannot be used by browsers to download directly, for security reasons.
Error Messages
The error message that is generated:
Duplicate headers received from server
Error 349 (net::ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_CONTENT_DISPOSITION): Multiple distinct Content-Disposition headers received. This is disallowed to protect against HTTP response splitting attacks.Nevertheless, the report is being generated. Preventing the framework from writing the HTTP headers would resolve this issue.
Question
How can you set the HTTP headers in ADF while using a Task Flow to generate a PDF by calling a managed bean?

The problem was that the HTTP headers were in fact being written twice:
1. The report server was returning HTTP response headers.
2. The bean was including its own HTTP response headers (as shown in the question).
3. The bean was copying the entire contents of the report server response, including the headers, into the output stream.
Firefox ignored the duplicate header errors, but Google Chrome did not.

Forms Service generated pdf null data

I'm using the Visual Studio project from the livecycle blog (http://blogs.adobe.com/livecycle/2008/01/invoke_livecycle_with_visual_b.html) to merge the sample purchase order (PO.pdf) with xml data.
lcFormsResult.outputContent.remoteURL comes back with a valid url, which I can open in IE to view the pdf. However, I would like to get the binary data and display that instead, but lcFormsResult.outputContent.binaryData is coming back as Nothing, likewise with blobRenderPDFForm.binaryData. Any idea why this might be or how I can get the binary data?

The BLOB type is used to represent the com.adobe.idp.Document object in WSDL. The BLOB type is used to send/return the data to/from the LiveCycle server via the following ways: (1) Base64-encoded string passed in the BLOB.BinaryData field. (2) MIME or DIME attachment with the attachment id passed in the BLOB.AttachmentID field. (3) Web hosted resource addressed with HTTP URL passed in the BLOB.RemoteURL field. Sometime back, the default way for result BLOBs has changed from (1) to (3). The reason is that the SOAP Reply message is much smaller this way, as it doesn't include the actual Document content. If you still want to get the data as base64 encoded string in BLOB.BinaryData field, then you will have to update your code to enforce the base64-encoded way. To achieve it, the service SOAP URL must be appended with a special "?blob=base64" postfix. XML Publisher generates PDF but concurrent program still completes in error

Hello,
I have a concurent program that is used everyday. It generates PDF output with an average of 500 pages. It completes normal majority of the times, but completes in error sporadicallly. Interestingly, when it completes in error, it still generates the PDF output successfully.
Question is why does it complete in error when all is good?
Please note that we just went live on R12 from 11i beginning of this year. This issue never occurred in 11i. Please advise what can be done to fix this issue.

Hi,
Since you said the behavior is sporadic and also the program was running good in 11i instance, I think its a problem with the data [or select query in the concurrent program] .
Ideal scenario:
1. Upon the concurrent program completing in error the pdf should not be generated in first place, since it misguides the obtained report. [Concurrent Program should be modified accordingly, before calling the pdf generation logic you need to check the status of the concurrent program].
2. It is not likely that the pdf generation should error out upon concurrent program's error, since the concurrent program could have a soft closure of its schema definition [inspite of an uncaught/unhandled exception]
eg:
<schema def>
<Xml element 1> </Xml element 1>
<Xml element 2> </Xml element 2>
<Xml element 3> </Xml element 3>
*_ <while generating elements 4, 5 and so on concurrent program could have errored out, but still the schema definition is valid so the pdf is generated>_*

Solution:
Next time when you get the same behaviour, try running the concurrent program and handle the exception for that scenario, this should resolve your issue.
