Help with a database design for community housing project
Talking database design
Hi all, I have been wondering about the design of tables for a big block of residential units. There are 100 + rooms. there are about 25 houses in this complex but the 100 + rooms are all rented out separately.
Its just like a college campus really but its not a college campus , its a little unique.
The rents are applied as a percentage of income, so thats not common, so I included a tblRoomCost where the pre-calculated weekly cost is entered, and its got a date field in there for when the change of rent charged. I probably need to include an income field in tblCustomer, even just as an Admin reference.
So is this looking pretty ok and would there be any point in scrapping the database and using text files ?
So what do you think of these tables please ?
tblCustomer
pkCustomer, fldFirstName, fldLastname
tblRoomAllocation
pkRoomID, fkCustomer
tblRoomCost
pkRoomID, fldDate, fldRoomCost
tblTransactionID
pkTransactionID, fldDate, fldTransactionType, fkCustomer, fldAmount
The naming scheme is one I learned and havn't thought past it though I do get into trouble and your suggestion may prove useful when codeing !
I thought the tblRoomAllocation and tblRoomCost took care of changing. Though I see now that tbleRoomAllocation needs a Date field really. And the tblRoomCost has a fldRoomCost which isnt really that good an implementation as the rooms themselves are priced always accoedijng to the income of a resident and not because of the room. So the real world object is getting fudgy........
It is extremely unlikly that Admin would ever allow two rooms to be rented by an individual.
I will have a look at possibly your suggestion that an Accounts table be used.
Also I thought about having a startDate and EndDate in the tblTransaction to represent the period being paid for. Just seems like a lot of Dates in a transaction table. One to record the transaction, the other two dates to indicate the period that was actually being paid for. ? When perhaps I should work that out in the runtime code.v ? This will be a VB.Net app.
Do you think there is a need for Accounts table if only one room is permitted to be rented , though room changing may be common?
And thx for your input.

Database design for Help Desk application.
Hello does any one know
Database design for Help Desk application.
ERD
Business rules and features
?The best way to approach a database design is to write a
specification for the application. Document what processes the help
desk technicians will do. In the process, identify what pieces of
information they work with. When you have the complete
specification written, you can then begin grouping the pieces of
information they work with together. For example, a ticket may have
a number, status, priority and a person to whom it is assigned. The
person to whom the ticket is assigned will have a name, phone
number, e-mail address and a list of technical skills.
So in this overly-simplified example, we could have a table
that contains ticket information, a table that has information
about technicians and a table of skills. Then ask your self
questions like "Can one ticket be handled by more than one
technician?" "Can one technician handle more than one ticket?" Can
a technician have more than one skill?" In this way, you can begin
seeing the one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many relationships
that exist. -
Database design for share market
Hi One and All,
I have a query regarding, design of New database....
Right now I joined as a Database administrator as a fresher, my superior has given me one assignment i.e. I have to create a sample database on Share market. As per his requirement the tables should be Issuer table, Security table, Broker table, INvestor table, Account table, Order table, Tradeing table. He said that I have to prepare the fiellds for this tables and relation ships and whole database structure.... I can prepare relations ships and database structure but the problem is, I don't know how the stock market is really works. If any body help me in this issue I am very thank full to him.
I need just the table feilds, if I get this rest of job i wil do by studying the subject of share market.
Thank YouHi,
As per Hemant this forum is not appropriate for this question. However you have to analyze the system by meetings with stock broker at stock Exchange or to the client for which you are designing the system. Ask your superior to arrange meeting with client and then ask question to him so that you can made database design for them.

Issue with cisco ONS 15310. Slot with Ethernet ports, designed for bridging.
Hi, guys. I’ve got an issue with cisco ONS 15310 sdh optical network. I’ve got a special slot with Ethernet ports, designed for bridging. Assume, we’ve got to multiplexers, named A and B with ports A0 and B0 respectively. The ios console of these slots says, the configuration is as follows:
no ip address set on these ports
Ports are administratively up
Auto mdix
Bridge groups are the same on these ports.
Dot1q tunnel.
I’m trying to monitor a device with an ip-address connected to port B0. It answers ping if I connect the notebook directly to a device. But if I connect the notebook to port A0 and ping the device pluged in port B0 through the optical network, it doesn’t answer. I tried connections with straight and cross cable.
Guys, who set the network said, it should work as a point to point bridge with no extra configuration. But it doesn’t. I used wireshark sniffer to lookup what’s happening on port A0. All I see is cdp-s from port A0 and self-announcements of the notebook.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.B

Help with Print Layout Designer
Hi all,
I'm not sure if I should post this here or not, I already posted it in the Business One Forum. Moderator(s) if this is not the proper place please delete it and let me know that it is not the appropriate venue.
I need some help with Print Layout Designer. I am running 2005A SP01, and my customer wants a modification to the Sales Backorder Report. They want to add the column "In Stock" to both the report as displayed on the screen and the printed document. The report rendered to the screen has the In Stock, but it is not checked as visible. I check it and In Stock shows up as designed. The part I am having problems with is the printed document. I opened the PLD from the Backorder Report, and saved it under a different name. I resized some of the columns in the repetitive area (header and data) to make room for the In Stock column. I CAN add the text field Instock as free text and enter "In Stock" as the content. I looked at the "backorder" column in the PLD, and it is a text field with the source System Variable and the variable is 109. I would assume that all I need to do in my added column is to set the source to System Variable and enter the variable number. That is the problem; I can't find the variable number for that column. I looked on the report rendered to the screen with system information on and the variable is "3 #000027825,OnHand". I looked at the Back Order column of the report rendered to the screen and the variable is "3 #000028725,OpenCreQty". I found a spreadsheet that is supposed to contain a list of system variables for 2007A, but the document type for this report is BRDR and that document type does not appear in the list of document types in that spreadsheet. I looked for a similar spreadsheet for 2005A SP01 but didn't find one. I DID find a document "How To Customize Printing Templates with the Print Layout Designer". According to that document, I should be able to get the system variable from the report rendered to the screen with System Information turned on. Can anyone help?
TIA,
SteveI haven't dealt with this before so I can't be certain, but here are my thoughts.
The Backordered Qty is probably a calculated field, so that's why it's a system variable. The In Stock is a defined field, so you probably can use the file and field number, OITM, OnHand. I would look at maybe the stock number or description to see how those are setup on the form instead of the backordered qty field. -
Need help with a activation code for Adobe Acrobat X Standard for my PC, Don't have older Version of Adobe Acrobat 9, 8 or 7.
You don't need to install the older version, you only need the serial number from your original purchase. If you don't have them to hand, did you register? If so, they should be in your Adobe account. If not you really need to contact Adobe, though it isn't clear they will be able to do anything without some proof of purchase etc.

Need help trouble shooting Database Gateway for MS SQL Server setup, getting ORA-28546 error
Dear All,
I am trying to setup Oracle Database Gateway for MS SQL Server(I don't have admin access to the MS SQL Server). When I try to test the dblink connection, I get the following error.
I issued select * from dual@xyz;
ORA-28546: connection initialization failed, probable Net8 admin error

My setup is the following.
1. Oracle 11gR2 running on Oracle Linux 6, the same version gateway is installed on the same server, but different home directory.
2. Oracle DB home directory is /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1, gateway home directory is /u01/gateway.
3. I use the same listener.ora file for both the db and the gateway.

Obviously, I would like to get this setup to work, but I also have couple other questions regarding this setup.
1. When installing the gateway, it asks to run the root.sh script. the root.sh script as for the following.
Enter the full pathname of the local bin directory: [/usr/local/bin]:
The file "dbhome" already exists in /usr/local/bin. Overwrite it? (y/n)
[n]: n
The file "oraenv" already exists in /usr/local/bin. Overwrite it? (y/n)
[n]: n
The file "coraenv" already exists in /usr/local/bin. Overwrite it? (y/n)

is the above answer correct?

I think I need help with driver (software) settings for D110a
I think I need help with driver (software) settings for D110a all-in-one
Product: D110a all-in-one
OS: Windows XP Professional
Error messages: None
Changes before problem appeared: None--new installation
The quality of photo images (mostly JPG files) in printouts is awful even though the files display beautifully on the PC screen. I am using
IrfanView software for displaying/printing. As far as I can tell, IrfanView is not the problem.
When I print the same images on a Deskjet 5150 attached to a different PC also running XP Pro and IrfanView, the quality of the printouts is at
least acceptable, Some would probably say good or very good.
It's dificult to explain in words the problem with the printouts. A picture of really pretty vegetables (squashes, tomatoes, watermelon, etc) comes
out much too red. Moreover, the red, which appears shaded on the screen, seems to be all one shade in the D110a printouts.
Something similar happens to a view of a huge tree in full leaf. On screen, there are subtle variations in the "greenness" of the leaves. In the
printout, all green is the same shade. In the same printout, the trunk of the tree is all a single shade of grey. It isn;t even obvious that the
trunk is a round, solid object.
I liken the effect to audio that disappears entirely when you lower the volume and gets clipped into square waves in even moderately loud passages.
I don't know whether the D110a driver software permits adjusting the parameters that appear to be set incorrectly, and if adjustments are possible,
how I would identify which parameters to adjust, how I would access them, or how I would adjust them. I'm hoping that someone can help. Thanks.
I forgot to mention that I have used the diagnostic application and it tells me that there are no problems.

Hi everyone,
I noticed the following message when network starts on my gateway
Warning: This functionality is deprecated.
Please refer to /etc/rc.conf on how to define a single wired
connection, or use a utility such as netcfg.
Then I realized the way network settings should be written in rc.conf has changed. But I can't figure out how this should be done.
Currently, my set up is the following (old way):
INTERFACES=(eth0 eth1)
eth0="dhcp"
eth1="eth1 192.168.0.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
ROUTES=(!gateway)
eth0 is on DHCP because the IP is dynamically assigned my ISP.
eth1 has a fix IP because it's on the LAN side.
No problem to use DHCP on eth0 with the new settings.
But for eth1, I don't know what I am supposed to write for gateway.
Wiki isn't clear on that one either, and it looks like many articles still refer to the old way.
Any guidance appreciated, thanks.
brazzmonkey,
you can't define 2 interfaces the old way (even though I saw some tricky workaround somewhere in the forums).
Use, f.e., netcfg:
Comment your old lines.
In /etc/rc.conf insert:
NETWORKS=(Eth0-dhcp Eth1-static)
DAEMONS=(..... !network @net-profiles ....)
In /etc/network.d create 2 files:
First one is named Eth0-dhcp.
Contents:
CONNECTION="ethernet"
DESCRIPTION="Whatever text"
INTERFACE=eth0
HOSTNAME="your hostname"
IP="dhcp"
DHCP_TIMEOUT=15
Second one is named Eth1-static.
Contents:
CONNECTION='ethernet'
DESCRIPTION='whatver'
INTERFACE='eth1'
HOSTNAME='hname'
IP='static'
ADDR='192.168.0.10'
GATEWAY='192.168.0.1' # your gateway IP
DNS=('192.168.0.1') # your DNS server
The names Eth0-dhcp and Eth1-static are not magic. They just must be the same in rc.conf and in /etc/network.d.
Hope it helps.

PS: netcfg must be installed.

[solved]Need help with a bash script for MOC conky artwork.
I need some help with a bash script for displaying artwork from MOC.
Music folders have a file called 'front.jpg' in them, so I need to pull the current directory from MOCP and then display the 'front.jpg' file in conky.
mocp -Q %file
gives me the current file playing, but I need the directory (perhaps some way to use only everything after the last '/'?)
A point in the right direction would be appreciated.
thanks, d

You should also quote the variables and output in double quotes to make the code robust, e.g.
filename="$(mocp -Q %file)"
dirname="${filename%/*}"
cp "$dirname"/front.jpg ~/backup/art.jpg
Without the quotes, whitespace will break the code. Even if you don't expect whitespace in any of the paths, it's still good coding practice to include the quotes imo.
thanks for the tip.
here it is, anyhow:
#!/bin/bash
filename=$(mocp -Q %file)
dirname=${filename%/*}
cp ${dirname}/front.jpg ~/backup/art.jpg
then in conky:
$alignr${execi 30 ~/bin/artc}${image ~/backup/art.jpg -s 100x100 -p -3,60}
thanks for the help.
