Help with exporting file for print

Hello,
I'm trying to print a banner through Spoonflower (a site that lets you print on fabric). They recommend an RGB, 150dpi file. (max 58" wide x 288" long, 40MB) and accept a wide variety of file types (ai, svg, eps, tif, png, jpeg).
My banner is rather large, at 50" wide x 236" long. The artwork was created in Illustrator, and consists of 2 colors with flat, line illustrations; no gradients, linked files, etc. File is about 1 MB. Because of Illustrator's canvas size limitations (227.5"), I set up my final artwork at half size (25" x 118" @ 300dpi) with the intention of scaling it in Photoshop to full size @ 150dpi.
Unfortunately, when I try to open the AI, EPS or PDF file directly in Photoshop, it compresses the artwork to 22.6" x 106.67" (from 25" x 118" - no idea why) and this throws off the layout of the banner, which is designed to fit a very specific framework. It means my artwork, when at 150dpi, is only 45" wide (I need it to be 50").
Next I tried exporting as a jpeg but keep getting the following error: 'The file could not be written due to error.'
When trying to export to PNG, I get this error: 'Could not complete the operation. The rasterized imag exceeded the maximum bounds for saving to the PNG format'.
I am at a total loss for how to proceed and would be so terribly appreciative if anyone could provide some insight...perhaps how to prevent the files from shrinking when rasterized by PS, how to actually save as a jpeg, png, or just a better way to go about this whole process altogether. What am I missing??
And of course, I needed to send this to the printer today to meet deadline...sigh.

If the site accepts .ai or .eps files why are you trying to move to a raster format at all?

  • Need help with saving file for printer

I am using Acrobat 9. I have a document with four pages. I need to save it in two files-- one file with p. 4 and 1 side by side to print on 11 x 17 paper, and the other file with p. 2 and 3 the same. The person printing does not have Acrobat so the pdf itself has to be formatted this way so they can print it. I can rearrange the pages, delete pages, and so forth, but I cannot get them to display side by side except in a "view" option.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Problems with exporting PDF for Print

    Hi all,
I would appreciate some help with exporting my indesign document (using v9.2, 32x) to PDF for print.
I have a number of images and text objects in the document and all links seem to be in place.
However when I come to export the document to print PDF, the PDF file is corrupted and has a size of 0 bytes. The export worked fine earlier when I did a test, but since I have added a few more images, everytime I go to export it, it will not work!!
I would be grateful for any help with this, it is infuriating when I have deadlines to meet! Many thanks.

I'd try a 'save as idml', reopen, then export.
If no go, rename your images folder (if separate) to break the links to images, and try exporting just the previews (you can't use this output, but it will tell you if there's a bad original image file). If a bad image, open images and re-save.
If still no go, try a full computer shut down and try again...

  • Help with Exporting files in Aperture

Hello looking for your help (first time poster)
My problem is when I export using Aperture the file size almost triples . I Import Nikon RAW file, make my adjustments and export by using export version- TIFF original size 16bit.
The file size in Aperture is 50mb and when I check it in photoshop the file size is 143mb this is killing my hard drive!!
    Cheers Dan.

In either 16bit TIFF or PSD - esp if you have multiple bitmapped layers you are going to end up with big files, that is all there is to it. Are you sure you need PS to do your "tidying up" In most cases the answer is probably not depending on what "tidying up" means.

  • Audition 5.5 - Help with .wav files for phone system - making a hold message PC & Mcc

    Hello everyone,
I am really frustrated trying to create a .wav file for our phone system and I was hoping someone might have some suggestions as I am new to using Adobe Audition. Our phone system will only accept .wav files for our hold messages but the tricky part is that is can only be a maxiimum streaming bit rate of 64 kbps. Everything we've created under 256 kbps becomes in-audible and I'm really not sure what to do as the current messages sound fantastic. Our current hold message is 35 seconds long and we have another one we are about to do which will be 2 minutes long (uuuugh).
    - I've tried first converting the .wav file to an .mp3, lowering the bit rate to 64 kbps, then converting back to .wav but the bit rate goes up to almost 1500 kbps after re-converting.
    - I've tried making the track mono, reducing the sample rate to 22k but the size ends up being somewhere between 512 and 768. If I lower the sample rate much further and convert to 8bit, the audio sounds terrible.
    - I've also tried using Adobe Media Encoder, Audacity, Hand Brake, OS X Automator and a few other programs all with the same results.
    - I've tried re-recording the audio on a handheld .mp3 recorder hoping the initial quality would be less (originally recorded on a PC through Audition with a external mic).
Unfortuantely, the person who used to do these conversions is no longer with the company, never documented the process and all I know is that they used to do this on a Mac. Also, the software that uplaods the files is a Linux based which is out of my area of expertise so I'm not able to tinker with it to make any headway.
** Any sort of suggestion would be greatly aprpeciated as I really don't know much about audio. I've been working on this for 2 weeks now and this is really driving me crazy. **

Eugh! Converting to MP3 is absolutely not the thing to do!

Okay, in reverse order: I know it sounds daft, but actually you want to start with the best recording you can possibly have. You are going to have to reduce its bit rate, but if you reduce a crap signal's bit rate, it inevitably ends up worse than reducing a good signal's one; when you think about that for a moment, it's going to make sense (I hope...).
As for what you need to do - well it's going to have to be a mono file anyway (you haven't got a stereo telephone system), and that will immediately halve the streaming rate, but the other thing you need to bear in mind is that telephones have a limitited bandwidth, and that your sample rate, even at 22k, is going to give you more bandwidth than the system has. If you can reduce it to 8k, it will work fine. This will still give you an upper frequency limit of 4kHz, and that's more than adequate for telephone speech, believe it or not...
The other thing, and this is where I think you may be running into trouble, is that 8 bit streaming is pretty much the norm here. All it does is to increase the noise floor, so that the signal to noise ratio is about 48dB instead of the 96dB it would be with a 16-bit signal. But, to get this to work to your advantage, you have to optimise the audio you are using in the first place. Chances are that you need to compress your recording so that it has a relatively limited dynamic range before reducing it to 8-bit, and then you'll be fine. This is better anyway for telephone systems - there's far less chance of bits of the message being missed because they're too quiet. Also, you don't want massive great peaks in the recording - these just reduce the maximum overall level for the majority of the message sound. So, you need to apply a limiter to get rid of them, leaving the majority of the speech sounding just as good, only louder. All of this you can easily do in Audition - don't need any other software at all.
So, my guess is that the previous maker of your messages knew exactly what he was doing. Yes, he could have documented the basic steps, but he couldn't have been absolutely specific about it because no two recordings are the same. I'll attempt to explain the basic steps in English, but how well you will be able to follow this, I'm not sure...
The basic process I'd go through with the recordings is firstly to normalize them to 0dB, then look at how far down most of the 'green' parts are - this is the bulk of the signal, and where all of the meaning is. Then, you apply a limiter to this so that those green parts don't have peaks sticking out of them. Then, if you need to, normalize again so that the green part moves to the upper part of the waveform space (towards where 0dB is). Then, if you need to, apply compression to the signal so that the level of it sounds about the same all through the message.
Now, when you reduce your signal to mono, 8k, and 8-bit, pretty much everything about the original signal will still be there. That should stream 8-bit words at 8k, making 64k streaming for a single mono channel. This will work fine, but only if you optimise the signal first - otherwise no chance!

  • Help with exporting HD for use in DVDSP.

    Hi Guys,
Very glad I found this forum as I am just out of ideas to get this working. Here is the situation:
I have a project of a wedding in HDV, which contains 3 sequences with the following lengths:
    The Service = 45mins
    Photoshoot = 5mins
    Reception = 80mins
I have decided I would like to have the Service + photoshoot on ONE DVD and the reception on ONE DVD. If possible? If not possible I will have the reception spread over two but i do not see the need.
First of all I have a Powermac dual 1.8 which doesn't have a dual layer dvd burner, so to have a higher quality result and to be able to fit more on I have decided I probably best to get a Dual Layer burner to do this project.
But before I do that, I need to work out what is the best settings for exporting this project out of FCP 5.1 to work on a SD DVD? Do I use compressor? If so which preset or what settings of my own? I have tried various things and I honestly get lost and my project in DVD SP is around 12GB. So i try exporting again with other ways in compressor and then the quality just looks terrible.
The FCP project is all in HDV with apple intermediate codec so I would be exporting from that, but obviously only need the DVD in SD!
If it helps converting the HD project to SD/DV I can do that with the sequence which I did try and then some more export experimenting but it looked really bad.
Please help guys I am desperate and no idea on what to do here.
I really appreciate your time, feel free to ask me anything to help you determine what I should do.
    Thank you so much.

  • Best way to work with .png files for print

My client suppllied 100 color .png files (screen captures), about 1700 pixels wide for his book. I opened one with Photoshop, saved as Tiff, converted to Grayscale, cropped to 300 dpi and placed in InDesign, but the InDesign file size is almost 2mb. Is there a better method?

That’s not what I mean at all…I mean what ever they are, they are. Just place them and be done with it.
There is nothing you can do with them in Photoshop that will make them better.
And you are incorrect…the fact that one page document is 2 megs does not mean the full document will 200. Graphics are linked, not embedded, by default.
    Do not embed them.
I’m going to move this thread to the InDesign forum.

  • Need help with Manifest file for jar

I am creating an executable jar for a document management application. In the manifest file there is a Class-Path setting. I will be running this app in multiple environments and I want this Class-Path setting to read from the machines classpath. How do I do it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Before you Jared your classes, did the classes work?
One possible solution would be to include the classes you're using within the Jar itself. But before you do that, I would re-read the Licence agreement for those classes.

  • How to export files for book's

whats the best way to export files for a book? lets say I want to make an apple book using aperture with 60 pics in it from my son's recent black belt test. do I simply send the 60 best pics to apple in raw/master format and let them figure it out? or do I try to do image editing myself and send them jpegs? if I send them jpegs how do I strip out the Adobe rgb that my Nikon d70 seems to embed so the lab can do the color balancing?
thanks for any help. great camera. great software. total amateur dad photographer and I really want to get these particular pics right!

To get the pictures in the Aperture-produced book really looking good, you should plan on printing a test book. Then based on the test book you can adjust your images to add saturation or contrast or whatever you need to get them looking right. Remember, any book you order online is printed by a CMYK printer, which has a specific and kind of limited color space. It's hard to predict what changes will happen in the conversion to CMYK, so the best thing is use the first book printing as a test, not as something you expect to look really great.

  • Exporting images for print labs - colorsync question

    Hi All,
This is more a generic question - not pertaining to Aperture specifically, but photo workflow in general.
When exporting pictures to print at a lab (like Costco, Ritz, Smugmug, etc), what Colorsync profile should be set in the Export Version options? sRGB is the profile Smugmug recommends, but I also have the choice of their specific ICC profiles.
Also, how does Aperture run on the 20" iMac? I've really never gotten into printing pictures, but now I have two clients that will pay me for taking pictures! They're giving me enough money to purchase my own copy of Aperture, along with an iMac. Not enough for a dual-G5 with monitor, but if it makes a big difference, I'll throw in the extra money myself.
    Thanks,
    Robert

IF you have the specific output profile for the device, use that. You’ll have control over the rendering intent (well if you do the conversions in Photoshop, in Aperture, you’re “stuck” with Relative Colorimetric which usually works fine). You can control Black Point Compensation (keep it on) and at least in Adobe products, use the ACE CMM which has proven over the years to be stable and bug free.
The only output device that can produce sRGB is a CRT display in a specific condition. The output devices above do not produce sRGB but instead assume/expect sRGB so a conversion can take place upon output. That can work but you have no idea of how the image will appear (soft proof), and you have no control over the conversions or post conversion editing. Assuming you have a good output profile for the device, convert using it, then send to the lab. But BE SURE they are ICC aware and are not expecting sRGB. There are some output profiles for such devices floating around the web, but you don’t know that the lab is expecting the file that way. If however, they do provide you an output profile for their device, you can be pretty sure they will know what to do with the files for output to their device.

  • Auto preparing file for printing Feature (extension)

do you know extension or plug-in for auto preparing a file for print?
I have a bunch of calling cards, flyers, brochures and etc.,
and I manually setting it up for print over and over again, sometimes I forgot 1 or 2 steps of doing that like missing cutting guides.
now I'm looking for that feature or similar, I know this is not impossible.
    I have a idea but I don't know codes.

    Hello IanHP8500,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're having an issue getting your Officejet 8500 scanning on Windows 8.1. I will do my best to help you with this issue.
Did you upgrade to 8.1 from an older version of Windows?
If so, with it not scanning correctly. You can try just removing the HP Solution Center from programs and features.
Go to the bottom left corner of your screen right click on the Windows icon> go to Control Panel> Go to Programs> uninstall Solution Center if it's listed.
Next, instead of using the printer install wizard. Download the software from this link: HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver. Let it run through, it should prompt to " add more software". This should allow you to reinstall Solution Center.
If you run into issues, there is something you may have to do. If you get a file missing error here, or the install hangs check your computer for the following.
McAfee Live Safe - Disable the "Realtime Scanning".
Check for and remove HPOINS*.dat or HPWINS*.dat. Here is a link to a post by JonW on how to do this: Re: installer setup hangs under Windows 8.1.
Try all of this, and let me know how you make out. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
I worked on behalf of HP.

can some help with CR2 files ,I can`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge when I open Adobe Photoshop cs5- help- about plugins- no camera raw plugins. When i go Edit- preference and click on camera raw  shows message that Adobe camera raw plugin cannot be found

That's strage. Seems that the Camera Raw.8bi file has been moved to different location or has gone corrupt. By any chance did you try to move the camera raw plugin to a custom location?
Go To "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats" and look for Camera Raw.8bi file.
If you have that file there, try to download the updated camera raw plugin from the below location.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5371&fileID=5001
In case  you ae not able to locate the Camera Raw.8bi file on the above location, then i think you need to re-install PS CS5.

  • Want to create an oval vignette in photoshop elements 10 with transparent background for printing w

I am fairly new to PSE and I want to create an oval vignette in Photoshop Elements 10 with transparent background for printing on white paper using MS Publisher. Using the white background on inverse selection makes a slight line impression and either it should have a defined "frame" or nothing.
    Appreciate any guidance.

Try with the Elliptical marquee tool:
On the tool's option bar set feather 25-40 px (experiment)
Drag out the Ellipse to embrace the object
Go to Layer>new>layer via copy, or CTRL+J
Your selection should fade out as a vignette and be surrounded by transparency
Save this layer via File>save for web, select PNG-24, and tick "Transparency"
