How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7 Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

After much huffing and puffing, I managed to import the photos, to the Windows computer, but they wound up in a Windows Photo Gallery directory, where I put them into an appropriately named album. Now, how do I get them back to the iPad. (I also learned, I think, that iTunes will have nothing to do with the photos.

For photos taken with the iPhone or saved from emails/websites then on a PC you should be able to use the Windows Camera Wizard or just copy them via Windows Explorer (there is more info on this page).
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPhone, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

I am running 10.6.8 snow leopard on the ibook which has 4Gb of memory.
I tried but it just loaded icons to the 9.6 library.
I am reluctant to go to Yosimite on the ibook and it seems this would not solve it anyway.

You don't import one library to another. Just copy the library from the iBook to the Pictures folder on shout new MacBook Pro. If you have another library already on the MBP rename it so you don't overwrite it with the old library.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library and let iPhoto convert it to the new version.

thank you for replay but i have been spoken to Samsung by phone and they refer to Apple so here I am and when I put usb cable between the mobile phone to my Mac Pro nothing happens can it be that I used to have a HTC mobile phone before? have pictures before by HTC and don´t remember how I did it but I think it came on by itself as you mention but not with samsung so what can I do? I work at a Learning Center that has 12 iPads on the same iTunes and iCloud account. Each classroom uses an iPad assigned to their room to take photos. Each of these photos then shows up in the Photo Stream in all 11 of the other iPads. I have no trouble importing photos that are in the Camera Roll of any individual iPad, but I have not been able to import photos from the Photo Stream if the picture was not taken on the specific iPad I am using. It is not feasible for me to collect all 12 iPads everyday to import everyones photos, so how can I use one "master" iPad that will let me import photos from the Photo Stream since it has all the photos that everyone has taken?

You downloaded an iCloud backup to your PC? I assume you mean you downloaded your photo stream to your PC. What you may not know is that photo stream only keeps your photos for 30 days. After that, they are deleted from photo stream but not from any device that already has them (such as your phone). When you enabled photo stream on your PC you only had access to photos from the last 30 days since the others are no longer there, even though they remain on your phone.
To transfer these to your computer at this point you have two options:
Save them to the camera roll on your phone (by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. (You can only import photos to your computer from the Camera Roll album.) Then import them to your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083; or
Use an app like PhotoSync, which can wirelessly transfer photos from any album between your devices/computers, including the my photo stream album.
In the future, always import your photos from your camera roll to your computer via USB before deleting them. Don't rely on photo stream or your iCloud backup to save your photos.

Ipod Classic 160gb transfer data software? Do Apple provide any facilities to recapture all music etc from an ipod classic and save them back into the itunes library or even better onto a separate pc memory or external drive for backup purposes?

I now have around 3,000 songs on my ipod Classic and still adding. I didn't want to save them in itunes library so I deleted them from there once I had them on the ipod. I have since found out that the ipod music cannot be transferred back to the itunes library nor can I extract them from the ipod directly. Do apple provide such facilities or softwareto do this and, if not, is there any recommended and safe software to perform it? I see from Google that there are plenty of programs available but I want to be sure that what I use is safe, reliable and not breaking any of Apple's terms and conditions. Any advice would be welcome.

I just found this and I'm trying to figure it out so your post is an excellent starting point, thank you! Since you posted this in Feb are there any things you would change or you found out after doing it? And how is everything running?
As a data point, I just added a SSD as the startup drive to an older mac pro (1,1) which is only used for Logic Pro and the speed now is amazing. Now I want to see if I can off-load the same things you have dealt with. Any additional insight will be greatly appreciated and thanks again for taking to time to document it.

How can I import photos from iPhoto '09 to Elements Organizer 10 while keeping the tags attached?

I have spent a ridiculously long time tagging photos in my iPhotos but I would now like to transfer all my photos to Elements Organizer and preserve all the work I had done.
From Adobe's help website (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/elementsorganizer/using/WS73c05ee9864270ea-417df45c129593bfa05 -8000.html) it says I can import the tags along with the photos but does not explain how:
"Elements Organizer 10 supports importing photos, along with their associated captions, tags, and ratings, from iPhoto. You also have the option to import information such as events and albums to maintain the organization of your library"
When I follow the steps outlined on the website my photos are imported but there are no tags attached to them. I am particularly interested in keeping my facial tags but I suppose it would be useful to know how to keep other keyword tags and ratings as well.
There was a previous question put out on the forums similar to this but it was unresolved and the person decided to just leave everything in iPhoto. I really would prefer to transfer all my photos to Elements Organizer. I don't like the way iPhoto organizes photos but I had to deal with it for several years before I bought Elements Photoshop with built-in Organizer.

I would like to take a group of photos from iphoto and import them into a power point(for mac) presentation- the PP for windows allows you to take a large number of pics and make a "photo album presentation" but can figure how to do it in Mac.

I recently went from PC to Mac. I transferred thousands of photos, many of which I had in albums. When I imported them into iPhotos, it didn't seem to preserve my albums, unless I'm not seeing something. Is there a way to do that?

in iPhoto you have a library which can be views as events, photos, places or faces -- events and photos view show all photo in your library and faces and places show only thos that have faces or places assigned
albums are logical entities that are pointers to the photos in the library and are used for organization
folders are logical entities that hold albums or other folders and also are used for organization
The photos (by default and recommended) are copies into th eiPhoto library with is a SQL database. you ony access the photos using the iPhoto program or the media browser which is in the lower left hand corner of each open/attach/upload window
If you drag a folder of photos onto the open iPhoto window it will import them and create an event names the same as the folder if you drag the foldr of photos to the source pane on the left it will import them into an event and create an album
The biggest problem most windows users have is thinking of managing their photo with a database rather than the old way of managing files with a file manager
iPhoto is much more powerful since you can serach the database on any criteria

When I drag the photo from the cd to my events in iPhoto, it says that it is importing, but it never shows up.

You cannot import to previously existing Event. Every import means at least one new Event (tho you can consolidate them after). If these pics are older then they may be sorted somewhere else within the Library.
