Yes you can definitely do this. You'll need an app on the iPad that handles PDF viewing and editing. There are many around - two of the best I've seen are GoodReader and PDF Expert.
In iTunes when you iPad is connected to your PC, go to the Apps tab and scroll down and you'll see the File Sharing section. You can drag files to there to share them to your iPad.
You could also look at online file sync services like PDF to ePub Maker if you prefer not to have to connect your iPad to a PC

You connect your device to your comptuer and open iTunes. Once it 'sees' the ipad, you can click on the name of your device and then you should see the tabs. In the Apps tab is your interface to remove apps, also to use the file transfer protocol - if your app supports that - to move files from your computer to your iPad. You can also use this interface to move the app icons from menu page to menu page on your device.
First, to use that apps tab, you'll need an app that'll read PDF files.
The file structure on an iPad is different than that from a computer or Mac. There is no general 'overall' file manager. Every file on your iPad needs to be associated with an app. So to read PDF files, you'll first need to install an app. iBooks will read PDF files. as will ReaddleDocs. I also see goodreader recommended a lot. So just search for PDF reader and find one that looks good to you.
Install the app. After the app is installed, you can go to the apps tab and move files onto your device.

I'm having the same issue. I saved a PDF from an email into iBooks. I'm on apple applying for a job but the only option the upload button has is from the Photos file. How ironic right? Luckily I'm in Logistics and not an IT specialist applying for this job! Lol. Does anyone know the fix?

You will need an app (or apps) on your iPad that is capable of reading the documents, as they will be saved with the app - if you don't have such an app then there is nothing to transfer them to or to read/access them.
One method of transferring them is toconnect your iPad to your computer's iTunes, select it's app tab, and then scroll to the bottom of it - you should the apps That you've got that are capable of file-sharing (if you've got any). Selecting/high-lighting one of them should then allow you to add files to it via the box to the right of it.
An alternative way to get the documents onto your iPad is if the app that you want to transfer them to has a wifi setting, which will then allow you to transfer the documents wirelessly. You can also send the documents to yourself as attachments and then use Mail's 'open in' facility to copy them into your chosen app.

From the names I'd guess they are temporary files. If excel is running, quit and try again. If they still won't move or delete reboot. If they still won't move or delete...kill a chicken at midnight under an oak tree?

My guess is they don't care. Most likely they're illiterate and don't know what a colon is for. They probably think it's a little-used character. Remember: these are the people who don't know the difference between "deprecate" and "depreciate".
I have the same colon problem as you do. But it's not the biggest problem I have encountered in Lion. If it was only that I'd be Mr. Delighted with Lion. There's worse than having a colon - uh - that won't cooperate. A lot worse, in Lion.

hello there thank u so much for ur reply!! ok i uninstalled mackeeper now and the put back option is still in grey im so confused...i tried restarting my computer like u said and put back still in grey??!! the files that are in my trash are everything from Accounts,address book plug-ins,address book,adobe,aim.........then stuff like apple,Audio,....to caches color pickers,colors,com.apple.TCC,to DVD player to facebook,google to ilifemedia browser to itunes to keychains to movie effects,preferences printers to skype...my Native instruments files BUT not all of them my garage band but not all of it...it seriously looks like my whole library is in the trash i tried to put things back where i THINK they belong and it just added the item or folder under where i thought it went and didnt restore functionality to for instance google chrome and all my book marks are there....they seem to be only certain things from my library that would have added some functionality to apps and programmes like my garageband is missing stuff photobooth wont work so on.......kinda looks a bit like this thats only the half of it!! Is FF downloading the file as a .txt file? If so, go to "Folder Options" in the windows control panel. Click on the "File Types" tab. Scroll down until you reach the TXT file extension. Look to see what that extension opens with (lower part of panel). It probably shows notepad. Click on the <Change> button. Scroll down until you find "Microsoft Word." Select it and click the <OK> button. That should show the TXT extension is now associated with Microsoft Word. Click the <Close> button at the bottom of the panel.
If FF is downloading the file as any other type, use the same process as above except look for the corresponding extension instead. If the extension is not listed click on the <New> button and create an association using the extension in the file name and then associate it with MS Word.

One way of saving your sms conversations so that you can then delete them from your iPad would be to back up the contents of your iPad using either iTunes or iCloud. See these articles -

If you want the shuffle to be always visible in Windows (outside of iTunes), you need to Enable disk use.
Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, select the Summary tab. You should see a checkbox that says Enable disk use. Check it and click Apply.
NOTE: If disk use is enabled, you have to Eject the shuffle in iTunes, BEFORE you physically disconnect it. If disk use is NOT enabled, you can disconnect the shuffle at any time, as long as iTunes is not doing something with it at that moment (such as syncing); the shuffle's light will then be blinking (to indicate DO NOT DISCONNECT).
So, unless you want to use the shuffle like a USB flash drive (carry random files on it), you may want to NOT Enable disk use.

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

What "app cleaner software" ? I ask because installing Photoshop over a previous version has never been a problem. Perhaps your difficulty stems from another source, eg. "cleaner software" ?
If you look in your hard drive, at the root level there is a Library. In there is a folder called Application Support, and in that you will find a folder called Adobe. Files from your previous version are there.
However, I urge you to call Adobe support to make sure you are not doing anything that would mess up other Adobe applications.
