  • How to convert rows to columns in sql server 2008

    How to convert rows to columns in sql server 2008 using the GROUP BY function? (only one query allowed)

    Lookup the Pivot transformation. From BOL:
    The Pivot transformation makes a normalized data set into a less normalized
    but more compact version by pivoting the input data on a column value. For
    example, a normalized Orders data set that lists customer name, product, and quantity purchased typically has multiple rows for any customer who purchased multiple products, with each row for that customer showing order
    details for a different product. By pivoting the data set on the product column, the Pivot transformation can output a data set with a
    single row per customer. That single row lists all the purchases by the customer, with the product names shown as column names, and the quantity shown as a value in the product column. Because not every customer purchases every product, many columns may contain
    null values.
    When a dataset is pivoted, input columns perform different roles in the pivoting process. A column can participate in the following ways:
    The column is passed through unchanged to the output. Because many input rows
    can result only in one output row, the transformation copies only the first
    input value for the column.
    The column acts as the key or part of the key that identifies a set of
    records.
    The column defines the pivot. The values in this column are associated with
    columns in the pivoted dataset.
    The column contains values that are placed in the columns that the pivot
    creates.

  • How to convert logical standby database to Physical Standby Database

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to convert logical standby database(10.2.0.3) to Physical Standby Database(10.2.0.3)? Is this possible? If so,please give me steps for it.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    RJ.

    I don't believe this to be possible. One of the steps invloved in the creation of a logical standby is the following:
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    This makes the logical standby a different incarnation of the db from the primary.
    A physical standby is a binary copy of a primary db, a logical standby is a completely seperate db that just happens to get sql statements applied to it that are generated from a primary db, but is open read/write.
    One avenue, though would be if you had flashback database enabled and you flashed back all the way to when the db was a physical standby and then rolled forward with the archived redo logs.
    It's somewhat unlikely you are in that situation, but that is a possibility.
    Indeed the 11g snapshot standby does this sort of thing:

    Thanks so much in advance.

    Hi,
    Take a look at the main [ SQL Developer page on OTN|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html]. There is a link you should find useful, it's the Getting Started link under the Migration section. This explains how to download and setup the drivers you need to correct to non-Oracle databases. There are also links to online demonstrations on how to create connections to these databases. See how you go with that material.
    It should help.

  • How to convert CLOB to BLOB with SQL Developer migration wizard?

    Hi,
    According to our requirement, we need to only migrate data from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11. I use the SQL Developer 3.0.04 migration wizard to do it.
    I do migration from SQL Server (database name: SCDS41P2) to Oracle (User name: HCDS41P2).
    My migration steps are as below: (I need to modify the target schema, so I add the steps 2) and step 3) )
    1) Do migration by SQL Developer migration wizard;
    2) Remove the Converted Database Objects node from migration project;
    3) Re-do convert by SQL Developer migration wizard (contains changing the target schema);
    When do step 1), the DBO_SCDS41P2 user is created automatically. CLOBTOBLOB_SQLDEVELOPER procedure is also created in this user.
    I continued to run step 2) and step 3) with online mode. And find the table data which contains BLOB column can be moved into the target table. But from the Logging Page, I can't see the other detailed error info, so that I can't check which tables don't move data successfully.
    Could you please tell me where the detail log file (e.g. contains every table's migration status) is if I use the online mode?
    Additional, If I use offline mode to do step 3), I found the CLOB data can't be converted into BLOB automatically. Because in the load script (that is oracle_ctl.bat), only copy the source data to the CLOB column. After copy, it don't deal with the converting from CLOB to BLOB.
    So could you please tell me how to convert CLOB to BLOB with offline mode?
    Thanks so much.

    Hi,
    For your first question about logging - after the migration there will be an entry in the right hand panel for the migration project. If you open this there are various fields that give information about the status of each part of the migration. Does this give you the information you need ?
    For the second problem about offline moving blob data have a look at the SQL*Developer documentation -
    Oracle® SQL Developer User’s Guide Release 3.0
    in the section -
    2.2.8.1.4 Populating the Destination Database Using the Data Files
    which describes the problem and how to get round it.

  • Moving SCCM 2012 R2 SQL 2014 Database to New Server

    Greetings,
    I have a SCCM 2012 R2 server with SQL 2014 installed which has been upgraded from SQL 2008 R2.  My goal is to separate the SCCM and SQL servers.  I am aware that SCCM only supports SQL 2014 if it has been upgraded on new installs, but after installing
    SQL 2014 on a new server and importing the database I get an error from the Configuration Manager Setup stating that I must upgrade the SQL server before I can modify the SQL Server configuration.
    Does this mean I need to install SQL 2008 or 2012 on the new DB server and from there upgrade to SQL 2014?

    Thank you for your reply.  We have been having several issues with our current server, and have had performance issues with SQL and SCCM installed on the same server mainly during OSD deployments to several machines at the same time.  These servers
    wouldn't necessarily need to be separated since we can allocate more resources, but the overall goal is to move our primary site server to a new server running Server 2012 R2 (current server is 2008 R2).
    I have tried the site recovery option in the installer where you run the SCCM backup and restore maintenance task and I have renamed the new server to the name of the old server.  If I understand correctly, this is the correct method of switching out
    a site server machine?  I experience the same error as my original post when trying this, but I will try the hotfix Torsten provided as this seems to be the issue I'm having.
    Thank you.

  • How to get the entire database from remote server to my server

    Hi,
    I am running a web application with sample data. Now i need to access the original data through this application. But the original data is located in the other server which is located in Mumbai.
    Now i need the copy of that database to my system(Chennai). with minimum effort.
    It is very urgent...
    Thanks in advance...
    Chaitanya.

    Hi
    Nicolas is right. You can also take advantage of exp/imp utility. That would not only get the entire db in one file but also the size will be a fraction of the entire db size.You can search for DataPump (that uses expdp and impdp) utility to expedite the export/import process.
    For simple exp/imp you can do the following.
    From Remote site(MUMBAI) issue
    ORACLE_HOME\BIN\exp file=c:\fulldbexp09sept05.dmp log=c:\fulldbexp09sept05log.log FULL=Y userid=system/pwd@connectstringOfyourdb
    Get a copy of fulldbexp09sept05.dmp and place it on your local drive in Chennai
    On Local Site (Chennai)
    ORACLE_HOME\BIN\imp file=fulldbexp09sept05.dmp log=fulldbimp09sept05 FULL=Y userid=system/pwd@connectstringOfyourlocaldb
    By this you can take advantage of having a different db name on remote and local sites. This is a fairly easy exercise. You just need to be sure that in your TNSNAMES.ORA you have correctly defined the connectString for your db.
    PS: Create a database on local server with default settings.
    Make use of following to create appropriate tablespaces and users if you desire ie.
    1. On Remote Site open SQLPLUS session and issue this command to find out the tablespaces, datafiles and their sizes
    SQL>SELECT SUBSTR(file_name,1,60) FILE_NAME, tablespace_name, bytes
    FROM dba_data_files
    GROUP BY tablespace_name, file_name;
    Now create the tablespaces on local sites using the result of the above query.
    2. On Remote Site open SQLPLUS session and issue this command to spool user creation script.
    SQL>spool c:\createuserscript.lst
    SQL> SELECT 'CREATE USER ||' IDENTIFIED BY VALUES '||'"'||PASSWORD||'"'||' DEFAULT TABLESPACE '||DEFAULT_TABLESPACE||' TEMPORARY TABLESPACE '||TEMPORARY_TABLESPACE||';'
    FROM dba_users
    WHERE username NOT IN ('SYS','SYSTEM')
    ORDER BY username;
    SQL>spool off
    Now edit this createuserscript using any editor and replace " with '. Copy this file to the local server and run it using @. This will create appropriate users.
    Let me know if you have any problems.
    Regards
    Adnan Mashhadi
    Nicolas I am not sure as how to eliminate the " in my script. Any comment will be appreciated.

  • How Can I Copy an database from one server to another ?

    Hi All,
    I need to copy an existing database from one server to another server. I want to maintain all the settings from the source database.
    I´m not used to Oracle database and i´d be glad for any help.
    How can I do this ? Do I need to backup and restore in the other server ? Do I need to copy files from one server to another ?
    Any help will be really appreciated.
    Carlos.

    I think a simpler approach, other than using RMAN, is to do a database export from the source and then import them into the target database. But you will need to do some ground work on the target, i.e, create database, tablespaces, and schemas (with their name the same as those in the source database.)

  • How to convert Oracle charset database

    I have a Oracle database which set charset "WE8ISO8859P1". how can I convert to "SJIS" charset that dont need create new database

    You can't.
    You can successfully convert an Oracle database's charset without database recreation if and only if 1) the original charset is a strict subset of the final charset (the letters in the set) and 2) the codepoints (the numbers that encode the letters) in the original charset don't change in the final charset and 3) all of the data in the database actually is encoded in the original charset (or at least is correctly encoded in the final charset). This is because this type of conversion is accomplished by simply slapping a new charest lable on the database as a whole; none of the binary values in the data get looked at, much less touched. If you "convert" a database and all three are not true, then some or all of your string data becomes complete and utter garbage.
    For WE8ISO8859P1 to SJIS, both 1) and 2) are false.
    3) becomes an issue because of what Oracle calls an optimization and I call a stupidity; when a database recieves string data from a client that asserts it's using the same charset, nothing checks that the data passed is actually in that charset; thus is it's trivially easy to get 8-bit data in a 7-bit US7ASCII database; it will read and write correctly until the day you try to convert to a superset of US7ASCII, such as UTF8. Then WHAM! Data corruption.
    Oracle customers with support contracts can get a lot of documentation about character set conversions from the Metalink support site. Oracle also strongly recommends that customers file a support request for conversions (although someone who reads all the docs and understands character encoding and the NLS settings can muddle through on their own). Oracle also has lot of free documentation about globalization and character sets on the OTN site, which just requires a registration, but I'm not sure the nitty gritty details are there.
    For non-subset conversions, the way to do it is to export the data, create a new database and import the data. Conversion to the new encoding will occur on import.
    There is a utility, CSSCAN, that can be used to prepare for a conversion. It will scan the database for strings that will have difficulty converting.
    Besides the possible issue of data that is outside of the original charset, it will also check for data that will be truncated on conversion. By default, the size specification of a VARCHAR2 in Oracle is the number of bytes; when a character is converted, it may expand the number of bytes that it requires, for example when switching form a 7 or 8 bit encoding to a 16 bit encoding. If enough characters in a value are expanded, the data exceeds the size of the column and is truncated or dropped (I forget). Recent Oracle versions lets you change from having the DB count size in bytes to counting size in characters; I don't yet know if this plays nice with imports with character set conversion (I'll know in a few months).

  • How to convert oracle 9i database to mysql using JSP?

    Dear friends,
    I want to convert oracle 9i database to mysql using JSP technology. Does there anyone who have a hint or some web links about this task? I searched the internet and found all of them are not free and no source code. In fact, what I want to do is really simple, I just want to first, reading the oracle database table structure information and then create the exactly same table in mysql, and then copying all the data in oracle database table to mysql table. But I dont know how to retrieve the oracle table structure using JDBC. And also I want to retrieve all the tables in the oracle database, so I can choose from them to convert to mysql. It seems that the structure in oracle usually have the tablespace information, I dont know if I can create database in mysql using this tablespace information. And I dont know where I can find the information about the functions in JDBC? For example, how to retrieve the table structure? Once I retrieve the table structure and create the exactly same table structure in mysql, then I can fetch all the data in oracle table to mysql table.
    Any hint will be great appreciated!
    Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

    Hi, beattris and rtg54,
    thank you very much for your great help!
    beattris, do you know if there is any such kind of tool free? I am a student and don't want to do commercial product, as you see, my work is very simple, in fact, just as you said, the most important of all is how to get the database structure from oracle schema? do you have any idea about this? or do you know any tool that is open source? so I can learn from it.
    rtg54, I just want to convert the database from oracle to mysql, after that, I can use mysql database as storage instead of expensive oracle database. the problem is that I have some data stored in oracle database and the application is built on oracle, after the convertion, I can use mysql to provide data to jsp or servlet application. I will great appreciate if you can contact with mysql about this problem because I don't know how to contact with them.
    thanks again and happy new year!

  • Copying database objects and data from one server database to another server database in AG group

    Hi,
    I am still trying to wrap my head around sql clusters and AGs and I have a project that requires I take a vendor's database and restore it weekly so its available on the production server which is clustered.
    The vendor's database on the cluster is in an AG group and encrypted.
    Right now, I plan to restore the database on a sql staging server and use the SSIS Transfer SQL Server Objects Task to copy the table structure and data from Stage to the Production database of same name and I would first drop the objects in production
    database using the same task.
    I am concerned that this might cause issues with the passive cluster due to "logging" from active to passive. The database is about 260 MBs and I am not sure how many tables.
    Has anyone run into this type of scenario before or have a better solution?
    Thanks
    Sue

    IF I understand anything about clustered sql and logging, the sql server should take the log file and recreate the same scenario on the passive side of the cluster.
    Is that correct?
    Hi Sue,
    Yes, for AlwaysOn Availability Group, the transaction log is basically replayed from the primary to all of the secondary's.
    Besides, from my point of view, as we cannot directly restore a database that is part of an Availability Group, it is a good way using SSIS task to drop and recreate all tables then transfer data from the restored database to the primary replica. Schema changes
    and data changes will also happen on the secondary  replica.

  • How to create a new DataBase using Oracle 10g Express Edition???

    Hello, I am new to Oracle, I am used to Microsoft SQL Server (Enterprise Manager).
    Here in Oracle I do not get how do I create a DataBase, and then create tables on it.
    could anyone please explain to me how to do it?

    A SQL Server database is roughly equivalent to an Oracle schema.
    You should rarely need to create a new database. If you do need to create a database, get a 'for fee' edition of Oracle and use the dbca tool (Database Configuration Assistant) to do that. In fact, you are only allowed to have one XE database on the machine.
    However, you can create as many schemas in an existing Oracle database as you need. (One schema, owned by userid SYS, is roughly equal to your 'master catalog'.)
    You can create other schemas simply by
    1) creating a userid that will own the schema (one designated for maintenance of the schema);
    2) grant that userid appropriate privileges, such as 'CREATE TABLE', 'CREATE VIEW' as shown in the SQL Reference manual under the GRANT section;
    3) provide that userid with a quota in one or more tablespaces (see the CREATE USER command in the SQL Reference manual);
    4) create the objects, such as tabels, views, sequences, stored procs and functions, etc. (as in the SQL Reference manual);
    5) create the users who will access the objects, and grant them the CREATE SESSION capability (as in the SQL Reference manual);
    6) grant access (select, update, execute, etc.) on the schema objects to these users (as in the SQL Reference manual);
    7) if desired, create synonyms on the schema objects so the users do not need to use fully qualified syntax such as "SELECT col FROM schema.table;" (as in the SQL Reference manual).
    In case you are interested in looking at the SQL Reference manual, it can be found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 ;-)
